RESUMO

The Illness Management and Recovery program (IMR) is developed to support people with severe mental illnesses in their recovery-process. The theory behind the program highlight the importance of helping people develop tailored illness management skills which will help achieve personal and clinical recovery. However, little is known about participants' experience with IMR in relation to their recoveryprocess. The aim of the present study is to describe the participants' lived experience with IMR, explore whether they experienced changes, and examine how these changes related to their recovery during or after their participation in IMR. A Qualitative study. The participants' experience with the IMR program in relation to their recovery unveiled three main themes; "Social connection with other IMR-group members', 'In IMR, we talked about our everyday lives with mental illness' and 'In IMR we learned about recovery as a personal experience'.

RESUMO

Services have improved due to public involvement in the planning, development, and implementation of health services. A wide range of public involvement methods, based on highly diversified methodological approaches and conceptualisations, have been developed. However, the extensive growth of new and different involvement methods lacks consistency and promotes uncertainty about which methods to apply when, how, and why. Aiming to identify, chart and summarise public involvement methods in the planning, development and implementation of community health services, we conducted a systematic search in April 2021. Seven databases were searched: CINAHL, Cochrane, Embase, PsycINFO, PubMed, ProQuest and Scopus. The systematic facet search corresponded with the PCC framework: Patient (P), Concept (C) and Context (C). A descriptive synthesis and a thematic analysis of included studies were conducted. Thirty-nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Two main categories of public involvement methods were identified: multiple methods approaches and single method approaches involving a variety of involvement activities. The characteristics of the two categories of methods were coded in accordance with methodological approach, activity and facilitation technique. The majority of the studies` methodological approach was either participatory or community-based. A variety of techniques to facilitate group discussions, sharing of ideas, and group processes were used. The results provide an overview of the characteristics of different public involvement methods, which may inform agencies and practitioners in choosing appropriate methods to qualify the public involvement in planning, developing, and implementing community health services. Further research is needed on how to manage public involvement in the implementation of community health services. In addition, rigorous evaluation studies of the impact of public involvement methods are needed.

RESUMO

Senior centre staff members seemingly have an important organisational and administrative role, as well as engage in outreach activities, referral and follow-up in relation to health issues among senior centre users. However, their role in health promotion and illness prevention is easily overlooked and under researched. This study aimed to explore municipal senior centre staffs' awareness of and response to signs of deteriorating health or well-being among users. A multisite ethnographic field study was conducted at seven municipal senior centres in Denmark from November 2019 to February 2020. Data were obtained from participant observation and semi-structured individual interviews with 16 staff members. A thematic analysis strategy helped identify themes of importance. Senior centre staff followed a process of three steps when remaining aware of and responding to signs of deteriorating health and well-being among users: detecting, tracing and reacting. Three themes with corresponding subthemes were identified: Establishing close and trusting relationships, facilitating a community feeling and utilising joint collaboration. Each subtheme was linked to some or all of the three steps in the process. The municipal senior centre staff had a strong and explicit focus on detecting, tracing and reacting to signs of deteriorating health and well-being among senior centre users. This makes the senior centres a promising arena for illness prevention and health promotion.

RESUMO

It is recognized that mental health literacy is vital in both the prevention of mental health problems and in mental health promotion and empowerment of adolescents. In spite of this, only a limited number of tools assessing mental health literacy among adolescents have been developed and most of these have not been adequately tested. In this study, a questionnaire assessing mental health literacy was developed and tested using a three-step approach: 1) item generation in which the principles of public patient involvement were essential, 2) item testing and 3) exploration of psychometric properties. Internal consistency of the questionnaire was determined through Cronbach's alpha and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted in order to determine the construct validity of the questionnaire. The results demonstrated partly skewed data, good internal consistency, good Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin and acceptable results in the goodness of fit index. The initial results suggest that the questionnaire developed and validated in this study is valuable in assessing mental health literacy and could provide useful, essential information on the topic. It thus appears to be a promising tool in the promotion and improvement of mental health and early intervention of mental health problems among adolescents.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this scoping review was to map intervention studies of rehabilitation for people living with dementia regarding processes and outcomes, with a particular focus on whether the intervention is person-centred, home-based, or organised adopting a multidisciplinary approach and measures outcomes relating to everyday functioning and well-being. METHODS: A systematic search of electronic databases was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Embase, and Cochrane. Studies from 2005 to November 2018 were collected and screened for relevance and quality. Randomised control trials and prospective cohort trials reporting a statistically significant effect on one or more outcome measures were included. Included studies were mapped according to selected processes and outcome measures. RESULTS: Twenty-six intervention studies were included and mapped. Nineteen of the interventions were person-centred, nine were home-based, and 14 reported a multidisciplinary approach. Twelve of the interventions had activities of daily living as an outcome measure, and 14 had quality of life as an outcome measure. CONCLUSION: Person-centredness appears in most rehabilitation interventions for people living with dementia. Other processes and outcomes are heterogeneously described in the research literature. Rehabilitation programmes can be home-based or take place at a centre. Although not exclusive, the organisation of rehabilitation can be multidisciplinary. Fewer than half of the intervention studies measure the impact on activities of daily living and quality of life. Future guidelines must take into account the weak evidence regarding these aspects.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The individual placement and support (IPS) intervention supports persons with severe mental illness in achieving competitive employment. Although the IPS intervention is labelled a recovery-oriented intervention, little is known about how participants experience IPS to influence recovery. The aim was to investigate how IPS and employment influence recovery in persons with severe mental illness. MATERIAL: A qualitative phenomenological hermeneutic study of experiences of 12 participants in IPS. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: IPS and competitive work have an impact on personal recovery, may influence work functioning and decrease depressive symptoms, but do not seem to have an impact on psychotic symptoms.

RESUMO

We present a systematic review on International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) used in the Nordic countries from 2001 through 2013, describing and quantifying the development in utilization of ICF, and describe the extent to which the different components of the ICF have been used. A search was conducted in EMBASE, MEDLINE and PsycInfo. Papers from Nordic countries were included if ICF was mentioned in title or abstract. Papers were assigned to one of eight categories covering the wide rehabilitation area; furthermore, area of focus was assigned. Use of ICF components and intervention were coded in papers categorized as "clinical and/or rehabilitation contexts" or "non-clinical contexts". One hundred seventy papers were included, of these 99 papers were from the categories "clinical and/or rehabilitation contexts" or "non-clinical contexts". Forty-two percent of the 170 included papers were published in the period 2011 - 2013. There was an increase in ICF-relevant papers from 2001 to 2013, especially in the categories "clinical and/or rehabilitation contexts" and "non-clinical contexts". The most represented focus areas were neurology, musculoskeletal, and work-related areas. All five or at least four ICF components were mentioned in the results or discussions in most papers, and activity was most frequently mentioned.
