RESUMO

Thirty-five cases of primary reticulum-cell sarcoma seen during 28 years are presented. These tumours occurred five times more frequently in males than in females, and were seen most commonly in adults. The femur was the commonest location. None of the tumours was located in the small bones of the hand, foot or skull bones (excluding maxilla).Radiation therapy has been the treatment of choice. Though the initial response was good, local recurrence and metastasis to regional nodes and generalised dissemination was not uncommon. Radiation therapy to regional nodes and concomitant chemotherapy are suggested to prevent metastasis in regional nodes and generalised dissemination. These tumours were found to have a spectrum of activity varying from a rapid fatal outcome within a few months to survival for many years.

RESUMO

Two cases of biopsy-proven mycosis fungoides are described. Case 1 appears to be the first reported instance of mycosis fungoides in the maxillary sinus. Case 2 involves persistently recurring lesions within the oral cavity, which appear to have been placed in a long-term remission by a full course of cobalt irradiation therapy to the entire oral cavity.

RESUMO

In the rural areas of developing countries, modern medical facilities are well below optimum levels and death registration is not mandatory. In India, as a result of such a situation, very few studies have been undertaken on the incidence of cancer in the rural population, though 80% of the people live in villages. The paper presents cancer incidence rates observed in a rural area of India by means of a method involving the use of paramedical personnel for initial screening, to minimize the cost. A statistical evaluation of the results shows that the method can be used for registering common sites of cancer in an area where conventional cancer registration methods are not applicable.
