RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: In order to explore Coffea canephora green seeds as natural extract for application in the functional-food industry, we focused this study to the evaluation of the antioxidant and the antiadhesion effect of C. canephora green seeds extracts. METHODS: The analysis of C. canephora green seeds extracts was carried out by RP-HPLC-PDA. These extracts were screened for antioxidant activities by ABTS and phenanthroline assays. The antibacterial activity was determined by microdilution method against three reference bacteria. The inhibition of bacterial adhesion at 1/8 MIC was carried out against three reference bacteria. RESULTS: The RP-HPLC-PDA revealed the presence of gallic acid, vanillin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid, and P-coumaric acid. The n-buatnol extract have the highest activity ABTS assays (3.96 ± 0.08 µg/mL). For this extract, the A0.5 was 1.90 ± 0.05 µg/mL for phenanthroline assay. The n-butanol extract and the methanolic extract have the higher antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 (40 µg/mL).At MIC/8, the extracts of C. canephora showed 70% higher antidhesive activity against S. aureus ATCC 25923. CONCLUSIONS: Our finding provides an effective and specific new approach to the search of antioxidant and antiadhesive compounds for different uses.

RESUMO

In Algeria, diabetes mellitus is a public health problem and it is strongly associated with lower levels of physical activity, increasing obesity rates, an ageing population, unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits. In this study, we performed a transversal investigation on 100 patients with diabetes type 2 and 10 controls with no clinical history of diabetes. A questionnaire was developed with the anthropometric data and biochemical following values: fasting blood glucose (GLU), total cholesterol (TCHOL), triglycerides (TRG), high-density lipoproteins (HDL-C) and glycosylated hemoglobin (GHbA1c) and calculated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C). We describe further the characteristics of lipid parameters in the study population. To this end, we analyzed the data using descriptive statistics by mean and standard deviation. According to our results, a female predominance was recorded in our population with a high breakdown for the age group between 51 and 71 years. The average blood glucose was 206 mg/dl, and the average glycated hemoglobin was 8.2%. The majority of diabetic patients had a lipid profile considered normal. 60% of the patients had cholesterol values less than 200 mg/dl; 57.7% had TG values less than 150 mg/dl; 54% had HDL-C values more than 40 mg/dl and 87.5% had LDL-C values less than 160 mg/dl. Our study shows that the lipid profile of a diabetic population of the Tlemcen region is normal and has no lipid abnormality. It is different from that in the West, where the lipid profile is lower but at inferior proportions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Detection of thyroglobulin in serum is of major clinical importance. The current assay techniques do not have all the qualifications which make the results of thyroglobulin difficult to interpret. The major problem is the autoantibody thyroglobulin (TgAb) interference. They induce an underestimation of thyroglobulin concentrations in the immunometric methods. We report in this study the clinical and biological parameters of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies of patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 246 patients with thyroid carcinomas were delicately selected from 2005 to 2012 in the nuclear medicine service of Tlemcen University hospital. Plasma thyroid stimulating hormone, thyroglobulin and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies were measured on Elecsys with the standardised Immunoradiometric assay. RESULTS: We noticed that there is a rapid increase in the annual number of cases of thyroid carcinoma detected since 2007 with a much higher incidence in women. The rate of anti-thyroglobulin antibody interference reached 20.40%. The distribution of positive anti-thyroglobulin antibodies is not related to age or sex. CONCLUSION: It is recommended to systematically measure anti-thyroglobulin antibodies, in parallel with the determination of thyroglobulin, using a sensitive method.
