RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Whether gastric hyperchlorhydria and Helicobacter pylori infection contribute to aspirin-induced gastroduodenal injury still lacks evidence. Because serum pepsinogens (PGs) and gastrin-17 (G17) can reflect gastric acid secretion, this study intended to elucidate whether serum PGs, serum G17, and H. pylori infection are associated with aspirin-induced gastrointestinal injury. SUMMARY: A total of 60 patients taking low-dose aspirin for more than 1 month were enrolled in this study. Serum PG I, PG II, and G17 were determined using ELISA. A 14C-urea breath test was used for the detection of an H. pylori infection. The modified Lanza score was used to evaluate the degree of gastroduodenal injury under endoscopy. The median serum PG I level was significantly higher in the intensive gastroduodenal injury (IGI) group compared to that in the mild gastroduodenal injury group (155.0 vs. 116.6 ng/mL, p = 0.006). The H. pylori infection rate was significantly higher in the IGI group (73 vs. 40%, p = 0.037). Receiver operator characteristic curves analysis revealed that the cutoff value of PG I was 123 ng/mL, with 80% sensitivity and 61.4% specificity. H. pylori infection combined with PG I at >123 ng/mL had an OR (95% CI) of 15.8 (2.4 ± 104.5) for the prediction of aspirin-induced gastroduodenal injury. Key Messages: Serum PG I and H. pylori infection could be used to identify potential high-risk aspirin-induced gastroduodenal injury patients.

RESUMO

Addressing the inefficiency of current therapeutic approaches for hepatocellular carcinoma is an urgent and pressing challenge. PANoptosis, a form of inflammatory programmed cell death, presents a dependable strategy for combating cancer by engaging multiple cell death pathways (apoptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis). In this study, an ultrasmall Bi2Sn2O7 nanozyme with ultrasound-magnified multienzyme-mimicking properties is designed and engineered as a PANoptosis inducer through destroying the mitochondrial function of tumor cells and enhancing the intracellular accumulation of toxic reactive oxygen species, finally triggering the activation of PANoptosis process. The role of PANoptosis inducer has been verified by the expression of related proteins, including cleaved Caspase 3, NLRP3, N-GSDMD, cleaved Caspase 1, p-MLKL, and RIPK3. The inclusion of external ultrasonic irradiation significantly augments the enzyodynamic therapeutic efficiency. In vitro and in vivo antineoplastic efficacy, along with inhibition of lung metastasis, validate the benefits of the Bi2Sn2O7-mediated PANoptosis pathway. This study not only elucidates the intricate mechanisms underlying Bi2Sn2O7 as a PANoptosis inducer, but also offers a novel perspective for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMO

CuCo2O4 decoration carbon nanofibers (CNFs) as an enzyme-free glucose sensor were fabricated via electrospinning technology and carbonization treatment. The CNFs with advantages of abundant nitrogen amounts, porosity, large surface area, and superior electrical conductivity were used as an ideal matrix for CuCo2O4 decoration. The resultant CuCo2O4-CNF hybrids possessed favorable properties of unique three-dimensional architecture and good crystallinity, accompanied by the CuCo2O4 nanoparticles uniformly growing on the CNF skeleton. To further enhance the selective molecular recognition capacity of the developed sensor, a conductive film was synthesized through the electropolymerization of thiophene and thiophene-3-boronic acid (TBA). Based on the synergistic effects of the performances of CNFs, CuCo2O4 nanoparticles, and boronic acid-decorated polythiophene layer, the obtained poly(thiophene-3-boronic acid) (PTBA)/CuCo2O4-CNF-modified electrodes (PTBA/CuCo2O4-CNFs/glassy carbon electrode (GCE)) displayed prominent electrocatalytic activity toward electro-oxidation of glucose. The fabricated sensor presented an outstanding performance in the two linear ranges of 0.01-0.5 mM and 0.5-1.5 mM, with high selectivity of 2932 and 708 µA·mM-1·cm-2, respectively. The composite nanofibers also possessed good stability, repeatability, and excellent anti-interference selectivity toward the common interferences. All these results demonstrate that the proposed composite nanofibers hold great potential in the application of constructing an enzyme-free glucose sensing platform.

RESUMO

The Three Gorges Reservoir Region (TGRR) is one of the most sensitive areas of ecological environment in China. As vital backwater areas, the secondary anabranches of the TGRR were prone to eutrophication in Spring which would affect the distribution and transfer of organotins (OTs) among aquatic media. This study quantified the concentrations of butyltins (BTs) and phenyltins (PhTs) in water columns and aquatic media of two anabranches of the TGRR, the Daning River (DR) and the Xiaojiang River (XR) during the state of eutrophication. Our results showed that the average concentrations of BTs and PhTs in surface water are 43.91, 81.25 ng Sn L-1 in the DR, and 63.49, 69.21 ng Sn L-1 in the XR, respectively, and there were no obvious differences in the concentrations of BTs and PhTs across the water columns in the DR and XR. PhTs, especially monophenyltin (MPhT), are predominated in the dissolved phase, whereas BTs, especially dibutyltin (DBT), are predominated in both suspended particulate matter (SPM) and the sediment. Shipping and agricultural activity were likely the sources of OTs in both the DR and XR. High concentrations of tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPhT) are still present in the aquatic media of the TGRR, and pose a significant risk to aquatic organisms due to the potential for bioaccumulation. Therefore, it is necessary to further monitor and assess OTs especially PhTs in surface water, and to continue to restrict the use of OTs to protect the aquatic environment of the TGRR.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Recognition of flat and small neoplastic lesions by colonoscopy is still challenging. High-definition (HD) i-Scan colonoscopy is a promising technique to maximize the sensitivity of colonoscopy; however, whether i-Scan can increase the detection rate of polyps is still unclear. The aim of this study was to prospectively compare HD i-Scan colonoscopy with HD colonoscopy for the detection rate of polyps in routine practice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 449 patients who underwent total colonoscopy for the first time were randomized in a 1 : 1 ratio to undergo HD+i-Scan colonoscopy or HD colonoscopy. Detected colorectal polyps were judged according to type, location, and size. The primary endpoint was the detection rate and the total number of polyps. RESULTS: The number of polyps identified in the HD+i-Scan group was significantly higher than that in the HD group (P=0.041), and this difference was more obvious for diminutive polyps (P=0.035). The number of patients with at least one polyp was not significantly different between the two groups irrespective of the size or the location. Overall, 268 polyps were removed, 130 in the HD+i-Scan group and 138 in the HD group. Among these, three high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia were found in diminutive polyps. CONCLUSION: HD+i-Scan colonoscopy is superior to HD colonoscopy in detecting diminutive polyps on the basis of this prospective randomized-controlled trial.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression of c-myb in reflux esophagitis, Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. METHODS: The expression levels of c-myb in the esophageal mucosa tissue of patients with reflux esophagitis, Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma were detected by real-time fluorescent quantitative RT-PCR. RESULTS: The expression levels of c-myb mRNA in Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in normal and reflux esophagitis esophageal tissue (P<0.05 or 0.01), and increased progressively with the development of reflux esophagitis into Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: The expression level of c-myb mRNA is closely related with the development of Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma, and may be used as a valuable index for monitoring the early onset and intervention of Barrett esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma.
