RESUMO

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are emerging as a promising alternative to conventional lithium-ion technology, due to the abundance of sodium resources. Still, major drawbacks for the commercial application of SIBs lie in the slow kinetic processes and poor cycling performance of the devices. In this work, a hybrid nanocomposite of Sb2O3 nanoparticles anchored on N-doped graphene nanoribbons (GNR) is implemented as anode material in SIBs. The obtained Sb2O3/N-GNR anode delivers a reversible specific capacity of 642 mA h g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g-1 and exhibits a good rate capability. Even after 500 cycles at 5 A g-1, the specific capacity is maintained at about 405 mA h g-1. Such good Na storage performance is mainly ascribed to the beneficial effect of N doping for charge transfer and to the improved microstructure that facilitates the Na+ diffusion through the overall electrode.

RESUMO

WI-38 human diploid fibroblasts underwent accelerated telomere shortening (490 bp/stress) and growth arrest after exposure to four subcytotoxic 100 microM tert-butylhydroperoxide (t-BHP) stresses, with a stress at every two population doublings (PD). After subcytotoxic 160 microM H2O2 stress or five repeated 30 microM t-BHP stresses along the same PD, respectively a 322 +/- 55 and 380 +/- 129 bp telomere shortening was observed only during the first PD after stress. The percentage of cells resuming proliferation after stress suggests this telomere shortening is due to the number of cell divisions accomplished to reach confluence during the first PD after stress.

RESUMO

The true atherosclerotic aneurysm of the axillary artery is a rare condition. It either presents as a pulsatile axillary mass or arterial emboli in the hand and fingers. We report the case of a 70-year-old man with a 5 cm aneurysm of the axillary artery presenting with embolic disease to the hand. Angiography is helpful and provides valuable preoperative anatomic details. Surgery remains the treatment of choice but endovascular treatment can also be considered.

RESUMO

In this paper we describe a novel family of miniature inverted-repeat transposable elements (MITEs), named DEC, isolated from the genome of the beetle Tenebrio molitor. These elements are highly reiterated and their number is estimated to be around 3500 per haploid genome. Two of them have been isolated and the two sequences are 84% identical. Like other MITEs, they are characterized by their small size, their A + T richness, the presence of terminal inverted repeats and the absence of open reading frames. These data suggest that MITEs are probably widely distributed in arthropods.
