BACKGROUND: Consumption of whole grains is associated with a reduction in chronic diseases and offers benefits for cardiovascular health and metabolic regulation. The relationship between whole-grain corn and corn bran with the gut microbiota (GM) remains an area of growing interest, particularly regarding their influence on cardiometabolic health. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of different corn flours on cardiometabolic outcomes and GM changes in adults with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) concentrations. METHODS: In this crossover study, 36 adults with LDL cholesterol above 110 mg/dL consumed 48 g/d of 3 corn flour types for 4 wk: whole-grain corn meal, refined corn meal (RCM), and a blend of RCM and corn bran (RCM + B). We assessed the impact on cardiometabolic markers [LDL cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL cholesterol), total cholesterol, and triglycerides)] and GM composition and estimated function. Statistical analyses included mixed-effects modeling and responder (>5% decrease in LDL cholesterol) analysis to evaluate changes in GM related to lipid profile improvements. RESULTS: Of the 3 corn flour types, only RCM + B significantly decreased LDL cholesterol over time (-10.4 ± 3.6 mg/dL, P = 0.005) and marginally decreased total cholesterol (-9.2 ± 3.9 mg/dL, P = 0.072) over time. There were no significant effects on HDL cholesterol or triglyceride concentrations. No significant changes were observed in GM alpha diversity, whereas beta diversity metrics indicated individual variability. Two genera, unclassified Lachnospiraceae and Agathobaculum (Padj ≤ 0.096), differed significantly by treatment, but only Agathobaculum remained significantly elevated in the whole-grain corn meal, compared to RCM and RCM + B, after adjustment for multiple comparisons. CONCLUSIONS: The type of corn flour, particularly RCM + B, notably influenced LDL cholesterol concentrations in adults with elevated LDL cholesterol. This study suggests that incorporating milled fractions (e.g., bran) of whole-grain corn with refined corn flour may be a viable alternative to supplementing manufactured grain products with isolated or synthetic fibers for improved metabolic health. This study explores the impact of plasma treatment on Lavandin Grosso flowers and its influence on the extraction of essential oils (EOs) via hydrodistillation. Short plasma treatment times enhance the yield of EO extraction from 3.19% in untreated samples to 3.44%, corresponding to 1 min of plasma treatment, while longer treatment times (10 min) show diminishing returns to 3.07% of yield extraction. Chemical characterization (GC/MS and ATR-FTIR) indicates that plasma treatments do not significantly alter the chemical composition of the extracted EOs, preserving their aromatic qualities. Investigations into plasma-surface interactions reveal changes at the nanometer level, with XPS confirming alterations in the surface chemistry of Lavandin Grosso flowers by reducing surface carbon and increasing oxygen content, ultimately resulting in an increased presence of hydrophilic groups. The presence of hydrophilic groups enhances the interaction between the surface membrane of the glandular trichomes on Lavandin Grosso flowers and water vapor, consequently increasing the extraction of EOs. Furthermore, microscopic SEM examinations demonstrate that plasma treatments do not affect the morphology of glandular trichomes, emphasizing that surface modifications primarily occur at the nanoscale. This study underscores the potential of plasma technology as a tool to enhance EO yields from botanical sources while maintaining their chemical integrity.

Powdery mildew on Lathyrus sativus (grass pea) is commonly caused by Erysiphe pisi, the causal agent of pea powdery mildew. E. trifolii could also pose an additional threat to grass pea, as it does to pea (Pisum sativum). In order to understand the potential threat and the availability of resistance sources, the response to both pathogens was analyzed on a worldwide germplasm collection of 189 grass pea accessions. Infection type and disease severity (DS) of grass pea accessions, independently inoculated with E. pisi and E. trifolii, were evaluated under controlled conditions. A wide range of responses were detected, with the previously uncharacterized partial resistance to E. trifolii in grass pea detected less frequently and uncorrelated with partial resistance against E. pisi. To test for the lack of correlation at the genetic level, an exploratory association mapping study was undertaken by statistically combining grass pea collection DS scores against both pathogens, with 5,651 previously screened genotype-by-sequencing-based single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). Mostly different genetic regions in grass pea were identified as being associated with the response to E. trifolii and E. pisi, anticipating an independent genetic basis that requires further validation in larger germplasm collections, with higher SNP densities. This study proposes common and unique partial resistance components against two different powdery mildews, implying the need for complementary approaches to introduce resistance to both pathogens into new grass pea varieties. The identified sources of resistance and predicted genomic targets will assist in breeding for resistance to multiple powdery mildews.

Seagrass meadows, through their large capacity to sequester and store organic carbon in their sediments, contribute to mitigate climatic change. However, these ecosystems have experienced large losses and degradation worldwide due to anthropogenic and natural impacts and they are among the most threatened ecosystems on Earth. When a meadow is impacted, the vegetation is partial- or completely lost, and the sediment is exposed to the atmosphere or water column, resulting in the erosion and remineralisation of the carbon stored. This paper addresses the effects of the construction of coastal infrastructures on sediment properties, organic carbon, and total nitrogen stocks of intertidal seagrass meadows, as well as the size of such stocks in relation to meadow establishing time (recently and old established meadows). Three intertidal seagrass meadows impacted by coastal constructions (with 0% seagrass cover at present) and three adjacent non-impacted old-established meadows (with 100% seagrass cover at present) were studied along with an area of bare sediment and two recent-established seagrass meadows. We observed that the non-impacted areas presented 3-fold higher percentage of mud and 1.5 times higher sedimentary organic carbon stock than impacted areas. Although the impacted area was relatively small (0.05-0.07 ha), coastal infrastructures caused a significant reduction of the sedimentary carbon stock, between 1.1 and 2.2 Mg OC, and a total loss of the carbon sequestration capacity of the impacted meadow. We also found that the organic carbon stock and total nitrogen stock of the recent-established meadow were 30% lower than those of the old-established ones, indicating that OC and TN accumulation within the meadows is a continuous process, which has important consequences for conservation and restoration actions. These results contribute to understanding the spatial variability of blue carbon and nitrogen stocks in coastal systems highly impacted by urban development.

A 5-day heat acclimation program improves heat stress indicators while maintaining exercise capacity. J Strength Cond Res 35(5): 1279-1286, 2021-This study aimed to evaluate whether a daily 60 minutes isothermic biking protocol during a 5-day period could improve physiological heat acclimation and exercise performance capacity in partially acclimated subjects. A quasi-experimental study consisted of an intervention (INT, n = 7) and control (CON, n = 7) group completing 2 12 minutes Cooper tests (pre-CT on day 1 and post-CT on day 7) and a heat stress test (HST, on day 9). INT performed additional intensive exercise 1 hour per day on days 1-5, whereas CON did not. During CTs and HST, core temperature (Tc, telemetric capsule), skin temperature (Tsk, sensors at neck, right shoulder, left hand, and right shin), and heart rate (HR, chest strap) were continuously monitored and baseline, average, peak, and increment were calculated. During the HST, the INT group showed a smaller baseline-peak Tc increment (INT 0.88 ± 0.27 vs. CON 1.64 ± 0.90° C, p = 0.02), a lower HR peak (150.2 ± 12.6 vs. 173.0 ± 16.8 b·min-1, p = 0.02), and lower Tsk peak (36.47 ± 0.62 vs. 36.54 ± 0.46° C, p = 0.04). There was a nonsignificant, but practical difference based on a moderate effect size for change in pre-CT to post-CT performance of nearly +2.7 ± 12.3% in INT and -3.0 ± 8.5% in CON (p = 0.32 and d = 0.51), and HST distance covered resulting in a nonsignificant difference of 464 ± 849 m between INT and CON (p = 0.38 and d = 0.44). In conclusion a short-term 5-day heat acclimation program including 300 minutes of extra exercise resulted in positive physiological adaptions to heat stress, as indicated by lower core temperature and HR in comparison with a control group.

BACKGROUND: Ole e 7 is a nonspecific lipid transfer protein (nsLTP) from olive pollen, one of the main allergenic pollens worldwide. This allergenic nsLTP is responsible for severe symptoms in regions with high olive pollen exposure, where many Ole e 7-sensitized patients exhibit a co-sensitization to the peach nsLTP, Pru p 3. However, there is no evidence of cross-reactivity, which explains this observed co-sensitization. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between Ole e 7 and Pru p 3. METHODS: A total of 48 patients sensitized to Ole e 7 and/or Pru p 3 were included in the study. Specific IgE serum levels were measured by ImmunoCAP 250 and ELISA. Inhibition assays were performed to determine the existence of cross-reactivity between both nsLTPs. Allergic response was analyzed ex vivo (basophil activation test) and in vitro (RBL-2H3 mast cell model). RESULTS: Common IgG and IgE epitopes were identified between both allergens. IgE-binding inhibition was detected in Ole e 7-monosensitized patients using rPru p 3 as inhibitor, reaching inhibition values of 25 and 100%. Ex vivo and in vitro assays revealed a response against rPru p 3 in four (31%) Ole e 7-monosensitized patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that Ole e 7 could play a new role as primary sensitizer in regions with high olive pollen exposure, leading to the peach nsLTP sensitization. This co-sensitization process would occur because of the cross-reactivity between Ole e 7 and Pru p 3 observed in some allergic patients.

Powdery mildew infections are among the most severe foliar biotrophic fungal diseases in grain legumes. Several accessions of Lathyrus cicera (chickling pea) show levels of partial resistance to Erysiphe pisi, the causal agent of pea powdery mildew, and to E. trifolii, a powdery mildew pathogen recently confirmed to infect pea and Lathyrus spp. Nevertheless, the underlying L. cicera resistance mechanisms against powdery mildews are poorly understood. To unveil the genetic control of resistance against powdery mildews in L. cicera, a recombinant inbred line population segregating for response to both species was used in resistance linkage analysis. An improved L. cicera genetic linkage map was used in this analysis. The new higher-density linkage map contains 1,468 polymorphic loci mapped on seven major and two minor linkage groups, covering a total of 712.4 cM. The percentage of the leaf area affected by either E. pisi or E. trifolii was recorded in independent screenings of the recombinant inbred line population, identifying a continuous range of resistance-susceptibility responses. Distinct quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for partial resistance against each pathogen were identified, suggesting different genetic bases are involved in the response to E. pisi and E. trifolii in L. cicera. Moreover, through comparative mapping of L. cicera QTL regions with the pea reference genome, candidate genes and pathways involved in resistance against powdery mildews were identified. This study extended the previously available genetic and genomic tools in Lathyrus species, providing clues about diverse powdery mildew resistance mechanisms useful for future resistance breeding of L. cicera and related species.

Olive pollen is a major allergenic source worldwide due to its extensive cultivation. We have combined available genomics data with a comprehensive proteomics approach to get the annotated olive tree (Olea europaea L.) pollen proteome and define its complex allergenome. A total of 1907 proteins were identified by LC-MS/MS using predicted protein sequences from its genome. Most proteins (60%) were predicted to possess catalytic activity and be involved in metabolic processes. In total, 203 proteins belonging to 47 allergen families were found in olive pollen. A peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase, cyclophilin, produced in Escherichia coli, was found as a new olive pollen allergen (Ole e 15). Most Ole e 15-sensitized patients were children (63%) and showed strong IgE recognition to the allergen. Ole e 15 shared high sequence identity with other plant, animal, and fungal cyclophilins and presented high IgE cross-reactivity with pollen, plant food, and animal extracts.

Until recently, superhydrophobicity was considered as a hint to predict surface icephobicity, an association of concepts that is by no means universal and that has been proven to depend on different experimental factors and material properties, including the actual morphology and chemical state of surfaces. This work presents a systematic study of the wetting and freezing properties of aluminum Al6061, a common material widely used in aviation, after being subjected to nanosecond pulsed IR laser treatments to modify its surface roughness and morphology. All treated samples, independent of their surface finishing state, presented initially an unstable hydrophilic wetting behavior that naturally evolved with time to reach hydrophobicity or even superhydrophobicity. To stabilize the surface state and to bestow the samples with a permanent and stable hydrophobic character, laser-treated surfaces were covered with a thin layer of CF x prepared by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. A systematic comparison between freezing delay (FD) and wetting properties of water droplets onto these plasma-/polymer-modified laser-treated surfaces that, under conditions where a heterogeneous nucleation mechanism prevails, surface morphology rather than the actual value of the surface roughness parameter the key feature for long FD times. In particular, it is found that surface morphologies rendering a Cassie-Baxter wetting regime longer FDs than those characterized by a Wenzel-like wetting state. It is that laser treatment, with or without additional coverage with thin CF x coatings, affects wetting and ice formation behaviors and might be an efficient procedure to mitigate icing problems on metal surfaces.

Herein, we present the development of supported organic nanofabrics formed by a conformal polymer-like interconnection of small-molecule organic nanowires and nanotrees. These organic nanostructures are fabricated by a combination of vacuum and plasma-assisted deposition techniques to generate step by step, single-crystalline organic nanowires forming one-dimensional building blocks, organic nanotrees applied as three-dimensional templates, and the polymer-like shell that produces the final fabric. The complete procedure is carried out at low temperatures and is compatible with an ample variety of substrates (polymers, metal, ceramics; either planar or in the form of meshes) yielding flexible and low solid-fraction three-dimensional nanostructures. The systematic investigation of this progressively complex organic nanomaterial delivers key clues relating their wetting, nonwetting, and anti-icing properties with their specific morphology and outer surface composition. Water contact angles higher than 150° are attainable as a function of the nanofabric shell thickness with outstanding freezing-delay times (FDT) longer than 2 h at -5 °C. The role of the extremely low roughness of the shell surface is settled as a critical feature for such an achievement. In addition, the characteristic interconnected microstructure of the nanofabrics is demonstrated as ideal for the fabrication of slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS). We present the straightforward deposition of the nanofabric on laser patterns and the knowledge of how this approach provides SLIPS with FDTs longer than 5 h at -5 °C and 1 h at -15 °C.

BACKGROUND: Cross-reactivity reactions between allergenic polygalacturonases (PGs) from different biological sources, especially foods and pollens from the Oleaceae family, have been described using Salsola kali PG (Sal k 6). No PG from olive pollen has been characterized to date, hampering further knowledge about cross-reactions through PGs. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this work was to determine the potential allergenicity of the PG from olive pollen and clarify its role in cross-reactivity. METHODS: A cDNA-encoding olive pollen PG sequence was subcloned into the pET41b vector and used to transform BL21(DE3) Escherichia coli cells to produce a His-tag fusion recombinant protein. The allergenic properties of olive pollen PG were determined by immunoblotting and ELISA in comparison to Sal k 6. The cross-reactivity potential of the protein with other pollen sources was analyzed by inhibition immunoassays. RESULTS: The existence of other isoforms of Ole e 14 with different allergenicity was confirmed by proteomics and a meta-analysis of the recently reported olive genome. Sal k 6 showed a higher IgE recognition than Ole e 14 regardless of patient sensitization, suggesting the existence of more allergenic Ole e 14 isoforms in olive pollen. IgG and IgE inhibition assays supported the existence of cross-reactions between them and with other PGs from Oleaceae and Poaceae plant families. CONCLUSIONS: A new allergen from olive pollen, Ole e 14, has been identified, produced as a recombinant isoform, and structurally and immunologically characterized. Its role in cross-reactivity has been confirmed and, due to its smaller IgE binding capacity, it could have an important role for therapeutic purposes.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize a single referral center experience with thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)-staining adenomas. METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted on histopathologic-proven TSH-staining adenomas resected between 2000-2015 at a single center. Tumors were classified as functional (hormonally active) or silent (hormonally inactive). Categorical variables were summarized using counts (n) and percentages; continuous variables were summarized using medians and ranges. RESULTS: From the 1,065 pituitary adenomas operated, 32 (3.0%) showed diffuse staining for TSH. Median (range) age of patients was 49 years (20 to 77 years), and 21 (66%) were male. Tumor diameter was 20 mm (2 to 37 mm), with 7 (22%) microadenomas and 25 (78%) macroadenomas. Functional tumors (n = 5, 16%) had median diameter of 10 mm (5 to 21 mm) (2 microadenomas). At diagnosis, median (range) TSH was 4.3 µU/mL (1.2 to 6.9 µU/mL), and free thyroxine (FT4) was 2.4 ng/dL (2.1 to 3.4 ng/dL). Three tumors stained for TSH alone, and 2 tumors costained with growth hormone (GH). No cavernous sinus invasion was seen, and 3 (60%) were considered cured after surgery. Silent tumors (n = 27, 84%) had median diameter of 20 mm (2 to 37 mm), with 5 (19%) microadenomas and 22 (81%) macroadenomas. Median (range) TSH was 1.2 µU/mL (0.48 to 4.6 µU/mL), and FT4 was 1.2 ng/dL (0.6 to 1.6). Only 2 (7.4%) tumors stained for TSH alone; the rest were plurihormonal, with GH being the most common. Cavernous sinus invasion was seen in 7 (27%) of the tumors, and 17 (63%) were considered surgically cured. CONCLUSION: In our series, 22% of TSH-staining adenomas were microadenomas, and 84% were silent. Most TSH-staining adenomas were plurihormonal, particularly costaining with GH. In 2017, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) developed a competency model for individuals who work in public health emergency preparedness (PHEP) in European Union (EU) countries. The model serves as the basis for developing competency-based training programmes to support professionals in PHEP efforts at the country level. The competency model describes the knowledge and skills professionals need when working in national-level PHEP, such as preparedness committee members or their equivalents. In order to develop the model, existing competency statements were reviewed, as well as case studies and reports. Fifty-three professionals from the EU and other countries provided feedback to the model by participating in a three-stage consultation process. The model includes 102 competency, 100 knowledge and 158 skill statements. In addition to specifying the appropriate content for training programmes, the proposed common competency model can help to standardise terminology and approaches to PHEP training.

OBJECTIVES: Pediatric cancer survivors are a steadily growing population; however, chronic anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity (AIC) is a serious long-term complication leading to considerable morbidity. We aimed to identify new genes and low-frequency variants influencing the susceptibility to AIC for pediatric cancer patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We studied the association of variants on the Illumina HumanExome BeadChip array in 83 anthracycline-treated pediatric cancer patients. In addition to single-variant association tests, we carried out a gene-based analysis to investigate the combined effects of common and low-frequency variants to chronic AIC. RESULTS: Although no single-variant showed an association with chronic AIC that was statistically significant after correction for multiple testing, we identified a novel significant association for G protein-coupled receptor 35 (GPR35) by gene-based testing, a gene with potential roles in cardiac physiology and pathology (P=7.0×10), which remained statistically significant after correction for multiple testing (PFDR=0.03). The greatest contribution to this observed association was made by rs12468485, a missense variant (p.Thr253Met, c.758C>T, minor allele frequency=0.04), with the T allele associated with an increased risk of chronic AIC and more severe symptomatic cardiac manifestations at low anthracycline doses. CONCLUSION: Using exome array data, we identified GPR35 as a novel susceptibility gene associated with chronic AIC in pediatric cancer patients.

A highly prevalent IgE-binding protein band of 28kDa is observed when Salsola kali pollen extract is incubated with individual sera from Amaranthaceae pollen sensitized patients. By an immunoproteomic analysis of S. kali pollen extract, we identified this protein band as an allergenic polygalacturonase enzyme. The allergen, named Sal k 6, exhibits a pI of 7.14 and a molecular mass of 39,554.2Da. It presents similarities to Platanaceae, Poaceae, and Cupressaceae allergenic polygalacturonases. cDNA-encoding sequence was subcloned into the pET41b vector and produced in bacteria as a His-tag fusion recombinant protein. The far-UV CD spectrum determined that rSal k 6 was folded. Immunostaining of the S. kali pollen protein extract with a rSal k 6-specific pAb and LC-MS/MS proteomic analyses confirmed the co-existence of the 28kDa band together with an allergenic band of about 47kDa in the pollen extract. Therefore, the 28kDa was assigned as a natural degradation product of the 47kDa integral polygalacturonase. The IgE-binding inhibition to S. kali pollen extract using rSal k 6 as inhibitor showed that signals directed to both protein bands of 28 and 47kDa were completely abrogated. The average prevalence of rSal k 6 among the three populations analyzed was 30%, with values correlating well with the levels of grains/m3 of Amaranthaceae pollen. Sal k 6 shares IgE epitopes with Oleaceae members (Fraxinus excelsior, Olea europaea and Syringa vulgaris), with IgE-inhibition values ranging from 20% to 60%, respectively. No IgE-inhibition was observed with plant-derived food extracts.

One-dimensional (1D) nanostructured surfaces based on high-density arrays of nanowires and nanotubes of photoactive titanium dioxide (TiO2) present a tunable wetting behavior from superhydrophobic to superhydrophilic states. These situations are depicted in a reversible way by simply irradiating with ultraviolet light (superhydrophobic to superhydrophilic) and storage in dark. In this article, we combine in situ environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) and near ambient pressure photoemission analysis (NAPP) to understand this transition. These experiments reveal complementary information at microscopic and atomic level reflecting the surface wettability and chemical state modifications experienced by these 1D surfaces upon irradiation. We pay special attention to the role of the water condensation mechanisms and try to elucidate the relationship between apparent water contact angles of sessile drops under ambient conditions at the macroscale with the formation of droplets by water condensation at low temperature and increasing humidity on the nanotubes' surfaces. Thus, for the as-grown nanotubes, we reveal a metastable and superhydrophobic Cassie state for sessile drops that tunes toward water dropwise condensation at the microscale compatible with a partial hydrophobic Wenzel state. For the UV-irradiated surfaces, a filmwise wetting behavior is observed for both condensed water and sessile droplets. NAPP analyses show a hydroxyl accumulation on the as-grown nanotubes surfaces during the exposure to water condensation conditions, whereas the water filmwise condensation on a previously hydroxyl enriched surface is proved for the superhydrophilic counterpart.

BACKGROUND: Chronic venous insufficiency, in its final stage can cause venous ulcers. Venous ulcers have a prevalence of 0.5 % to 0.8 % in the general population, and increases starting at 60 years of age. This condition often causes increased dependency in affected individuals, as well as a perceived reduced quality of life and family overload. Local Treating chronic venous ulcers has 2 components: topically healing the ulcer and controlling the venous insufficiency. There is evidence that compressive therapy favours the healing process of venous ulcers. The studies we have found suggest that the use of multilayer bandage systems is more effective than the use of bandages with a single component, these are mostly using in Spain. Multilayer compression bandages with 2 layers are equally effective in the healing process of chronic venous ulcers as 4-layer bandages and are better tolerated and preferenced by patients. More studies are needed to specifically compare the 2-layer bandages systems in the settings where these patients are usually treated. METHOD/DESIGN: Randomised, controlled, parallel, multicentre clinical trial, with 12 weeks of follow-up and blind evaluation of the response variable. The objective is to assess the efficacy of multilayer compression bandages (2 layers) compared with crepe bandages, based on the incidence of healed venous ulcers in individuals treated in primary care nursing consultations, at 12 weeks of follow-up. The study will include 216 individuals (108 per branch) with venous ulcers treated in primary care nursing consultations. The primary endpoint is complete healing at 12 weeks of follow-up. The secondary endpoints are the degree of healing (Resvech.2), quality of life (CCVUQ-e), adverse reactions related to the healing process. Prognosis and demographic variables are also recorder. Effectiveness analysis using Kaplan-Meier curves, a log-rank test and a Cox regression analysis. The analysis was performed by intention to treat. DISCUSSION: The study results can contribute to improving the care and quality of life of patients with venous ulcers, decreasing healing times and healthcare expenditure and contributing to the consistent treatment of these lesions. Despite increasing awareness of large-scale climate-driven distribution shifts in the marine environment, no study has linked rapid ocean warming to a shift in distribution and consequent hybridization of a marine fish species. This study describes rapid warming (0.8 °C per decade) in the coastal waters of the Angola-Benguela Frontal Zone over the last three decades and a concomitant shift by a temperature sensitive coastal fish species (Argyrosomus coronus) southward from Angola into Namibia. In this context, rapid shifts in distribution across Economic Exclusive Zones will complicate the management of fishes, particularly when there is a lack of congruence in the fisheries policy between nations. Evidence for recent hybridization between A. coronus and a congener, A. inodorus, indicate that the rapid shift in distribution of A. coronus has placed adults of the two species in contact during their spawning events. Ocean warming may therefore revert established species isolation mechanisms and alter the evolutionary history of fishes. While the consequences of the hybridization on the production of the resource remain unclear, this will most likely introduce additional layers of complexity to their management.
