RESUMO

The paper describes a case of primary extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the cerebral hemispheres, which was regarded as an inflammatory disease of the brain during life and diagnosed only posthumously in the microscopically examination of the autopsy material by immunohistochemical studies.

RESUMO

MATERIAL AND METHODS: The authors investigated three mature ovarian dermoid cysts that were found to contain atypically developed teeth (one tooth in one cyst; 2 teeth in another cyst, and a set of 8 teeth with jawbone fragments in the third one). Their structure was examined using the epoxy resin plastination technique to obtain plastinated sections. RESULTS: Some of these teratomous teeth have obvious signs of alteration in both dentin and enamel, which may be referred to as fluorosis or macular enamel hypoplasia in one case whereas other sections indicate a caries lesion. CONCLUSION: These facts are contradictory to the concept of the exogenous nature of dental caries, which is accepted in dentistry.

RESUMO

Using light and scanning electron microscopy thin epoxide processed sections of 12 impacted third molars, one molar developed in odontogenic follicular cyst and one tooth-like teratoma were studied. It was established that the 4 impacted teeth and the tooth developed in odontogenic follicular cyst had obvious signs of enamel damage in the form of erosion in the crown fissures. The features of enamel alteration make it possible to interpret the changes as carious process which apparently has endogenous origin. Tooth-like teratoma extracted from ovarian dermoid cyst looked like canine and incisor "hybrid" coronal portion of which is covered with thin enamel layer, marked by obvious signs of multiple erosive lesions of endogenous nature. But unlike alterations in impacted teeth it resembles either fluorosis or enamel hypoplasia.

RESUMO

Multiple primary malignant tumors are characterized by independent occurrence and development of two or more malignant neoplasms in the same patient. We present an extremely rare case of synchronous double primary malignancies, hairy cell leukemia and hepatocellular carcinoma with lethal outcome. Diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma was difficult due to the presence of lymphoproliferative disease, which complicated the visualization of the process using ultrasonography. Carcinomatous emboli of hepatocellular carcinoma in small pulmonary arteries without the formation of metastatic foci have led to clinical manifestations typical of pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension and severe respiratory failure. In lymphoproliferative diseases it is necessary to take into account the possibility of the development of another malignant neoplasm, which can be "buried" by tumor infiltration.

RESUMO

The clinical case of refractory hepatoblastoma with lethal outcome followed by pathomorphological verification has been analyzed. The true causes of hepatoblastoma development remain unknown. The prognostic factors of the disease require detailed study in complex investigations that would include histological, clinical, laboratory, and immunohistochemical characteristics. However, comparing clinical and histopathological parameters with CD10 expression could have a diagnostic role and may be useful in understanding tumorigenesis and prognostic analysis of a given tumor.

RESUMO

The article represents current literature data on epidemiological, clinical-morphological features and diagnostic criteria of neuroblastoma. The case of large congenital neuroblastoma with multiple metastases in the newborn child is presented. The histological picture and immunohistochemical profile of the tumor allowed us to consider this type of neuroblastoma as the least differentiated variant (subtype, "neuroblastoma rich in Schwann stroma"), with rapid progression and metastasizing started before the birth of the child.

RESUMO

Effective methods for making semithin sections of large surface area are not currently available. An alternative solution to this problem, without actual histological section preparation, is proposed. This is a modification of a combination of methods for fixing tissues and embedding them in epoxide resin using known technical methods. This method for making preparations for microscopic examination of biological objects with large surface areas has additional valuable potential, as it allows investigations of a variety of complexes of soft and hard (cartilaginous and bony) tissues without prior decalcination.

RESUMO

The effective methods for producing large-area semithin sections are presently still unavailable. The method is suggested to alternatively solve this problem without the very procedure of histological sectioning. It includes a modified combination of the methods of tissue fixation and embedding in epoxy resin with the known technique of preparing the ground sections. This method of slide preparation for the microscopical study of large area biological objects gives an additional valuable opportunity, since it allows to study heterogeneous complexes consisting of soft and hard (cartilaginous and bone) tissues without their prior decalcination.
