RESUMO

Flexible three-dimensional interconnected carbon nanotubes on the carbon cloth (3D-CNTs/CC) were obtained through simple magnesium reduction reactions. According to the Nernst equation, the cell voltage based on these pure carbon electrodes without any additives could reach 1.5 V due to the higher di-hydrogen evolution over potential in neutral 3.5 M LiCl electrolytes. In order to improve the electrochemical performance of the electrodes, 3D-CNTs/CC electrodes covered with polyaniline barrier layer (3D-PANI/CNTs/CC) were prepared byin situelectropolymerization using interfacial engineering method. The assembled symmetric supercapacitors display a broadened voltage of 1.8 V, high areal capacitance of 380 mF cm-2, outstanding areal energy density of 85.5µWh cm-2and 84% of its initial capacitance after 20 000 charge-discharge cycles. This work demonstrated that the interface engineering strategy provides a promising way to improve the energy density of carbon-based aqueous supercapacitors by widening the voltage and boosting the capacitance simultaneously.

BACKGROUND: Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) is one of the most severe cancers in the world, and its early detection is crucial for saving patients. There is an inevitable necessity to develop the automatic noninvasive OSCC diagnosis approach to identify the malignant tissues on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images. METHODS: This study presents a novel Multi-Level Deep Residual Learning (MDRL) network to identify malignant and benign(normal) tissues from OCT images and trains the network in 460 OCT images captured from 37 patients. The diagnostic performances are compared with different methods in the image-level and the resected patch-level. RESULTS: The MDRL system achieves the excellent diagnostic performance, with 91.2% sensitivity, 83.6% specificity, 87.5% accuracy, 85.3% PPV, and 90.2% NPV in image-level, with 0.92 AUC value. Besides, it also implements 100% sensitivity, 86.7% specificity, 93.1% accuracy, 87.5% PPV, and 100% NPV in the resected patch-level. CONCLUSION: The developed deep learning system expresses superior performance in noninvasive oral squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis, compared with traditional CNNs and a specialist.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress plays a key role in the progression of GC. Rapid proliferation of tumor cells interferes with ER homeostasis, leading to ER stress and triggering unfolded protein response. Therefore, it is very necessary to investigate abnormally expressed ER resident proteins (ERp) in cancer cells. This study aimed to investigate the possible roles of ERp44. The mRNA and protein expression of genes were detected using qRT-PCR and western blot. Cell apoptosis was calculated using flow cytometry. Cell proliferation was determined using CCK-8 and colony formation assay. Cell migration was detected by wound healing, and cell invasion was measured by transwell assay. We found that ERp44 was obviously decreased in GC tissues. Furthermore, ERp44 overexpression distinctly suppressed the proliferation, migration, and invasion of MGC-803 and KATO III cells. In contrast, apoptosis was promoted by ERp44 overexpression. Furthermore, mechanistic studies revealed that overexpression of ERp44 inhibited malignant biological processes by regulating the eIF-2α/CHOP signaling pathway. Taken together, our data demonstrated that ERp44 regulated the proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis via ERp44/eIF-2α/CHOP axis in GC. Targeting the ERp44and ER stress may be a promising strategy for GC.

A derivatization method combined with high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD) was used to evaluate the dissipation, residue distribution and risk assessment of emamectin benzoate in whole longan and pulp. The average recoveries were 82-111% with relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 11%. The limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.001 mg/kg in longan and pulp. The half-lives were 3.3-4.2 days. The terminal residues in whole longan were <0.001-0.025 mg/kg applied two and three times at two levels of dosage with PHIs of 10, 14, and 21 days. The residues in whole longan had a higher quantity than those in the pulp, and the terminal residues of pulp were all lower than LOQ (0.001 mg/kg). The chronic risk of emamectin benzoate was not negligible to humans depending on ADI% value, which was higher than 1; and the acute risk was acceptable to the consumer. This study could provide guidance for the safe use of emamectin benzoate in longan and serve as a reference for the establishment of maximum residue limits (MRLs) in China.

Germanium oxide (GeO2) is a high theoretical capacity electrode material due to its alloying and conversion reaction. However, the actual cycling capacity is rather poor on account of suffering low electron/ion conductivity, enormous volume change and agglomeration in the repeated lithiation/delithiation process, which renders quite a low reversible electrochemical lithium storage reaction. In this work, highly amorphous GeO2 particles are uniformly distributed in the carbon nanofiber framework, and the amorphous carbon nanofiber not only improves the conduction and buffers the volume changes but also prevents active material agglomeration. As a result, the present GeO2 and carbon composite electrode exhibits highly reversible alloying and conversion processes during the whole cycling process. The two reversible electrochemical reactions are verified by differential capacity curves and cyclic voltammetry measurements during the whole cycling process. The corresponding reversible capacity is 747 mAh g-1 after 300 cycles at a current density of 0.3 A g-1. The related reversible capacities are 933, 672, 487 and 302 mAh g-1 at current densities of 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.6 A g-1, respectively. The simple strategy for the design of amorphous GeO2/carbon composites enables potential application for high-performance LIBs.

BACKGROUND: Mango anthracnose is among the most severe diseases impacting mango yields and quality. While this disease can be effectively controlled through chemical means, it is vital that appropriate field efficacy and fate determination studies be conducted when applying pesticides to crops in order to appropriately gauge the ecological and health risks associated with the use of these agents. RESULTS: GAP field trials were conducted to explore the efficacy, dissipation, and terminal residues associated with the application of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin to mango crops in six locations throughout China. These analyses revealed that three applications of mefentrifluconazole [160 mg active ingredient (a.i.) kg-1 ] in combination with pyraclostrobin mixture achieved satisfactory disease control efficacy. To simultaneously detect mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residues on mangoes, a 'quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe' (QuEChERS) high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS)-based approach was established. The initial mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin concentrations ranged from 0.18 to 0.34 mg kg-1 , and these two compounds exhibited respective half-lives of 5.6 to 10.8 days and 5.5 to 9.0 days. At 21 days following foliage application, the terminal mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin residue concentrations were 0.02-0.04 and 0.01-0.04 mg kg-1 , with these concentrations being below the maximum residue limit (MRL) established for pyraclostrobin. Both short-term [acute reference dose percent (ARfD%) 0.78-2.36% and 2.0-6.08%] and chronic [acceptable daily intake percent (ADI%) 0.08-0.47% and 0.09-0.55%] dietary intake risk assessments for mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin indicated that these terminal residue concentrations are acceptable for the general population. CONCLUSION: Mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin in mango was rapidly degraded following first-order kinetics models. The dietary risk of mefentrifluconazole and pyraclostrobin through mango was negligible to consumers. The application of a 400 g L-1 mefentrifluconazole-pyraclostrobin suspension concentrate mixture represents a highly efficacious fungicidal approach to controlling mango anthracnose that exhibits significant potential for development as it is easily degraded and associated with low residual concentrations after application. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

Hyperdoped silicon (hSi) fabricated via femtosecond laser irradiation has emerged as a promising photoelectric material with strong broadband infrared (IR) absorption. In this work, we measured the optical absorptance of the hSi in the wavelength of 0.3-16.7 µm. Unlike the near to mid wavelength IR absorption, the mid-long wavelength IR (M-LWIR) absorption is heavily dependent on the surface morphology and the dopants. Furthermore, calculations based on coherent potential approximation (CPA) reveal the origin of free carrier absorption, which plays an important role in the M-LWIR absorption. As a result, a more comprehensive picture of the IR absorption mechanism is drawn for the optoelectronic applications of the hSi.

The grain boundary is an intrinsic defect within mono- and multi-layer polygonal graphene islands during the chemical vapor deposition growth process. It greatly influences their mechanical and electronic properties. However, the precise characterization and formation mechanism of grain boundaries still remain unclear. In this work, H2 etching experiments show that a polygonal etched hole originates from the natural location of a grain boundary beyond the nucleation site in polygonal monolayer graphene. Furthermore, colorful Raman mapping provides a visualized method to explore the distribution of grain boundaries in polygonal bilayer graphene. Therefore, a deep understanding of the growth kinetics of mono- and bi-layer polygonal graphene was obtained through etching engineering combined with Raman spectroscopy.

Defect engineering have profound influence on the energy storage properties of electrode hybrids by adjusting their intrinsic electronic characteristics. For iron carbide based materials, however, the effect of defect (especially cation vacancies) toward their electrochemical performance are still unclear. Herein, the feasible and scalable synthesis of FexC@NC with 3D honeycomb-like carbon architecture and abundant Fe vacancies via template etching is reported. Such structure enable outstanding lithium-ion storage properties owing to hierarchical pores, improved intrinsic electrochemical activity, as well as the introduction of more active sites. As a result, the FexC@NC-2 presents a high reversible specific capacity of 1079 mAh g-1after 1000 cycles. Moreover, an excellent cycling stability can be achieved via maintaining a high-capacity retention (689 mAh g-1, 98.4%) over 1000 cycles at 5 A g-1. This study provides a feasible strategy for developing high-performance hybrids with hierarchical pore and rich defects structures.

Nanoimprint technology has the advantages of low cost, high precision, high fidelity and high yield. The metal nanoparticle fluid is non-Newtonian fluid, which is used as the imprint transfer medium to realize high fidelity of pattern because of its shear thinning effect. In order to functionalize the metal nanoparticles microstructure, the subsequent sintering step is required to form a metal interconnect wire. Metal interconnect wire with fewer grain boundaries and fewer holes have excellent mechanical and electronic properties. In this paper, the pseudoplastic metal nanoparticle fluid was formed by Ag nanoparticle and precursor solution, and then the thermal diffusion process was completed by microwave sintering after interconnects were embossed. The influence of microwave and thermal atmosphere on the microstructure and performance of Ag Interconnect wires was analyzed and discussed, and the Ag Interconnect wires performance was determined under the influence of time and temperature parameters. In our experiments, the interconnects after microwave sintering can achieve 39% of the conductivity of bulk silver. The microwave sintering module might be integrated as the heat treatment module of the metal micro/nano pattern directly imprint lithography.

PURPOSE: Partial superficial parotid (PSP) resection is the mainstay of treatment for benign parotid tumor. Unfortunately, the post-surgical formation of sialocele or salivary fistula is a well-recognized complication of parotid surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the predictors of sialocele or salivary fistula after PSP resection for parotid benign tumor. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study includes patients who underwent PSP resection for benign parotid tumors from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019. The predictor variables were demographic data, systemic disease, smoking history, tumor size and type, surgical approach, and area. The outcome variables were the occurrence of sialocele or salivary fistula after PSP resection. Each possible risk factor was then examined using univariate analysis. Variables associated with sialocele or salivary fistula in the univariate analysis were then included in a multiple logistic regression model, and analyzed for possible factors related to the occurrence of sialocele or salivary fistula after partial superficial parotid resection. RESULTS: The sample was composed of 872 subjects with a mean age of 51.0 ± 8.3, and 59.5% were male. The frequency of sialocele or salivary fistula after partial superficial parotid resection was 10.4% (n = 92). Based on the multiple logistic regression model, hypertension and location of the lesion were associated with sialocoele formation. Hypertension was associated with a decreased risk for the formation of sialocele or salivary fistula (ORs = 0.6, 95% CI = [0.4,1.003], P = .051). When compared the superior lesions, anterior lesions were associated with a decreased risk for the formation of sialocele or salivary fistula (ORs = 0.32, 95% CI = [0.111,0.92], P = .034) and lesions in the middle were associated with an increased risk for sialocele or salivary fistula development (ORs = 2.315,95% CI = [1.199,4.469], P = .012). CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of sialocele or salivary fistula development was 10.4% in patients undergoing partial superficial parotidectomy in this study. Moreover, middle and anterior tumor location was shown to increase sialocele or salivary fistula risk.

This study established a QuEChERS high-performance liquid chromatography/tandem triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry method for determining azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, picoxystrobin, difenoconazole, chlorantraniliprole, imidacloprid, and cyantraniliprole and its metabolite (IN-J9Z38) in litchi and longan, and applied this method to the real samples. The residues in samples were extracted with acetonitrile and purified with nano-ZrO2, C18, and PSA. The samples were then detected with multireactive ion monitoring and electrospray ionization in the positive ion mode and quantified using the external matrix-matched standard method. The results showed good linearities for the eight analytes in the range of 1−100 µg/L, with correlation coefficients (r2) of >0.99. The limit of quantification was 1−10 µg/kg, and the limit of detection was 0.3−3 µg/kg. Average recovery from litchi and longan was 81−99%, with the relative standard deviation of 3.5−8.4% at fortified concentrations of 1, 10, and 100 µg/kg. The developed method is simple, rapid, efficient, and sensitive. It allowed the rapid screening, monitoring, and confirming of the aforementioned seven pesticides and a metabolite in litchi and longan.

To meet the requirements of theranostics with diagnosis and treatment, photodynamic-based therapy is simultaneously enabled with the incorporation of methylene blue (MB) as imaging agent and photosensitizer in core-shell structured drug vehicles. Citrate-modified hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders are first grafted with ß-cyclodextrin (CD), then combined with MB molecules through electrostatic interactions, and finally encapsulated with carbon shells through hydro-thermal carbonization of glucose to prepare HAp-CD-MB@C powders. Processing parameters of carbonization temperature, glucose addition, reaction time and CD addition are varied to prepare drug carriers with modulated crystallite degrees and photo-physical properties. Increased crystallite sizes of HAp are accompanied with the formation of C=O, C=C and C-OH groups in carbon shell, endowing sustainable release behaviors of MB through carbonous structures. High photoluminescence intensities are fairly related with red-shifted vibration peaks of groups in tightly combined MB molecules through hydrogen bonds. This hydrogen bonding effect is significantly increased for HAp-CD-MB@C140 with the splitting of CH3-involved vibration peaks in infrared spectra, which causes increase in photoluminescence intensity and four-fold increase in generation ratio of singlet oxygen. The present studies shed light on preparation of core-shell structured drug carriers, modulation of aggregate states of MB molecules, enhancement of photo-physical properties and improvement of generation ratio of singlet oxygen during photodynamic-based therapy.

We successfully designed and prepared hierarchical Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays on three-dimensional Ni foam via facile hydrothermal sulfuration. We conducted a series of time- and temperature-dependent experiments to determine the Ostwald ripening process of hierarchical Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. The rationally hierarchical architecture creates an excellent supercapacitor electrode for Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. The areal capacitance of this array reaches 5.5 F cm-2at 2 mA cm-2, which is much higher than that of Ni3S2nanosheet arrays (1.5 F cm-2). The corresponding asymmetric supercapacitor exhibits a wide potential window of 1.6 V and energy density up to 1.0 Wh cm-2when the proposed array is utilized as the positive electrode with activated carbon as the negative electrode. This electrochemical performance enhancement is attributable to the hierarchical structure and synergistic cooperation of macroporous Ni foam and well-aligned Ni3S2nanorod@nanosheet arrays. Our results represent a promising approach to the preparation of hierarchical nanorod@nanosheet arrays as high-performing electrochemical capacitors.

BACKGROUND: The recombinant protein diannexin can inhibit platelet-mediated events, which contribute to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Here, we investigated the effect of diannexin and its effect on heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in ARDS. METHODS: A total of 32 rats were randomized into sham, ARDS, diannexin (D), and diannexin+HO-1 inhibitor (DH) groups. Alveolar-capillary permeability was evaluated by testing the partial pressure of oxygen to fraction of inspired oxygen (PaO2/FiO2) ratio, lung wet/dry weight ratio, and protein levels in the lung. Inflammation was assessed by measuring cytokine levels in the bronchial alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and serum and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) in the lung tissue. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and myeloperoxidase (MPO) were measured to evaluate the oxidative stress response. Lung tissue pathology and apoptosis were also evaluated. We measured HO-1 expression in the lung tissue to investigate the effect of diannexin on HO-1 in ARDS. RESULTS: Compared with the ARDS group, diannexin improved PaO2/FiO2, lung wet/dry weight ratio, and protein levels in the BALF and decreased levels of cytokines and NF-κB in the lung and serum. Diannexin inhibited the oxidative stress response and significantly ameliorated pathological lung injury and apoptosis. The partial reversal of diannexin effects by a HO-1 inhibitor suggests that diannexin may promote HO-1 expression to ameliorate ARDS. CONCLUSIONS: We showed that diannexin can improve alveolar-capillary permeability, inhibit the oxidative stress response and inflammation, and protect against ARDS-induced lung injury and apoptosis.

BACKGROUND: Splenectomy performed with a curved incision results in severe postoperative pain. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of transversus abdominis plane block and rectus sheath block on postoperative pain relief and recovery. METHODS: A total of 150 patients were randomized into the control (C), levobupivacaine (L) and levobupivacaine/morphine (LM) groups. The patients in the C group received only patient-controlled analgesia. The patients in the L and LM groups received transversus abdominis plane block and rectus sheath block with levobupivacaine or levobupivacaine plus morphine. The intraoperative opioid consumption; postoperative pain score; time to first analgesic use; postoperative recovery data, including the times of first exhaust, defecation, oral intake and off-bed activity; the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting and antiemetics use; and the satisfaction score were recorded. RESULTS: Transversus abdominis plane block and rectus sheath block reduced intraoperative opioid consumption. The patients in the LM group showed lower postoperative pain scores, opioid consumption, postoperative nausea and vomiting incidence and antiemetic use and presented shorter recovery times and higher satisfaction scores. CONCLUSIONS: The combination of transversus abdominis plane block and rectus sheath block with levobupivacaine and morphine can improve postoperative pain relief, reduce the consumption of analgesics, and partly accelerate postoperative recovery. BACKGROUND: Brain injury is the leading cause of death following cardiac arrest (CA) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Ac2-26 and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) have been shown to reduce neuroinflammation. This study is aimed at determining the mechanism by which Ac2-26 protects against inflammation during brain injury following CA and CPR. METHODS: Sixty-four rats were randomized into sham, saline, Ac2-26, and Ac2-26+L-NIO (endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) inhibitor) groups. Rats received Ac2-26, Ac2-26+L-NIO, or saline after CPR. Neurologic function was assessed at baseline, 24, and 72 hours after CPR. At 72 hours after resuscitation, serum and brain tissues were collected. RESULTS: Blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability increased, and the number of surviving neurons and neurological function decreased in the saline group compared to the sham group. Anti-inflammatory and proinflammatory factors, neuron-specific enolase (NSE) levels, and the expression of eNOS, phosphorylated (p)-eNOS, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and oxidative stress-related factors in the three CA groups significantly increased (P < 0.05). BBB permeability decreased, and the number of surviving neurons and neurological function increased in the Ac2-26 group compared to the saline group (P < 0.05). Ac2-26 increased anti-inflammatory and reduced proinflammatory markers, raised NSE levels, increased the expression of eNOS and p-eNOS, and reduced the expression of iNOS and oxidative stress-related factors compared to the saline group (P < 0.05). The effect of Ac2-26 on brain injury was reversed by L-NIO (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Ac2-26 reduced brain injury after CPR by inhibiting oxidative stress and neuroinflammation and protecting the BBB. The therapeutic effect of Ac2-26 on brain injury was largely dependent on the eNOS pathway.

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer (GC) has high incidence and mortality worldwide. However, the underlying mechanisms that regulate gastric carcinogenesis are largely undefined. 4.1B is an adaptor protein found at the interface of membrane and the cytoskeleton. Previous studies demonstrated that 4.1B serves as tumor suppressor. RESULTS: We showed that 4.1B expression was decreased or lost in most GC patients. The expression pattern of it was tightly correlated with tumor size, TNM stage and overall survival (OS). We further showed that 4.1B inhibited the proliferation of two GC cell lines, MGC-803 and MKN-45, by impeding the EGFR/MAPK/ERK1/2 and PI3K/AKT pathways. A similar phenotype was also observed in immortalized mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEF) derived from wild type (WT) and 4.1B knock-out (BKO) mice. Additionally, immunofluorescence (IF) staining and Co-IP showed that protein 4.1B bound to EGFR. Furthermore, the FERM domain of 4.1B interacted with EGFR through the initial 13 amino acids (P13) of the intracellular juxtamembrane (JM) segment of EGFR. The binding of 4.1B to EGFR inhibited dimerization and autophosphorylation of EGFR. CONCLUSION: Our present work revealed that 4.1B plays important regulatory roles in the proliferation of GC cells by binding to EGFR and inhibiting EGFR function through an EGFR/MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway. Our results provide novel insight into the mechanism of the development and progression of GC.

A new strategy has been innovatively proposed for wrapping the Ni-incorporated and N-doped carbon nanotube arrays (Ni-NCNTs) on porous Si with robust Ni-Si interfacial bonding to form the core-shell-structured NCNTs-Ni2Si@Si. The hierarchical porous silicon core was first fabricated via a novel self-templating synthesis route based on two crucial strategies: in situ thermal evaporation of crystal water from the perlite for producing porous SiO2 and subsequent magnesiothermic reduction of porous SiO2 into porous Si. Ni-NCNTs were subsequently constructed based on the Ni-catalyzed tip-growth mechanism and were further engineered to fully wrap the porous Si microparticles by forming the Ni2Si alloy at the heterojunction interface. When the prepared NCNTs-Ni2Si@Si was evaluated as the anode material for Li-ion batteries, the hierarchical porous system in the Si core and the rich void spaces in carbon nanotube arrays contributed to the remarkable accommodation of volume expansion of Si as well as the significant increase of Li+ diffusion and Si utilization. Moreover, the Ni2Si alloy, which chemically linked the Ni-NCNTs and porous Si, not only provided good electronic contact between the Si core and carbon shell but also effectively prevented the CNTs' detachment from the Si core during cycling. The multifunctional structural design rendered the whole electrode highly stable and active in Li storage, and the electrochemically active NCNTs-Ni2Si@Si electrode delivered a high reversible capacity of 1547 mAh g-1 and excellent cycling stability (85% capacity retention after 600 discharge-charge cycles) at a current density of 358 mA g-1 (0.1 C) as well as good rate performance (778 mAh g-1 at 2 C), showing great potential as an efficient and stable anode for high energy density Li-ion batteries.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common type of malignant cancer affecting the oral cavity. Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) play a vital role in the initiation, progression and metastasis of OSCC. In this study, we investigated the correlation between macrophages and several clinical and pathological indicators, and we also explored how transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) effect on VEGF expression in TAMs. Seventy-two paraffin-embedded OSCC samples were collected. Association between macrophages density, micro vascular density (MVD) and clinical-pathological feature were explored by immunohistochemical staining. Western blot, ELISA and qRT-PCR were conducted to assess the VEGF expression in TAMs treated with or without neutralizing TGF-ß1, TßRII and smad3 antibodies. Results showed that CD68+ macrophages were absent in normal tissues. Macrophages density was directly correlated to low pathological differentiation, late clinical staging and poor survival rate. MVD showed positive correlation with clinical staging and macrophages density. Furthermore, OSCC-associated macrophages expressed more VEGF than macrophages in healthy lymph nodes. However, when TGF-ß1 or TßRII were neutralized or the Smad3 was inhibited, VEGF expression was down regulated as well. It is concluded that TGF-ß1 could promote OSCC-associated macrophages to secrete more VEGF via TßRII/Smad3 signaling pathway. This result might explain the correlation between macrophages density and worse clinical-pathological condition.
