RESUMO

Hygienic evaluation covered work conditions on 4 gold mines including 3 ones for gold and arsenic and one "arsenic-free". The mines demonstrated similar occupational factors, but differed in arsenic content of the ore extracted and therefore in arsenic concentrations in air of the workplaces. Miners engaged into extraction of the arsenic-containing ore, especially those exposed to vibration and arsenic concentrations over the MAC, manifest extensive arsenic accumulation in the hair and excretion with the urine, higher morbidity with transitory disablement, more prevalent vibration disease and mortality with malignancies. Vibration disease in those subject has more severe course, serious vegetative and sensory polyneuropathy, that is believed to result from co-action of vibration and arsenic.

RESUMO

Hygienic evaluation of work conditions and clinical examination of workers in fluoride mines proved vibration disease to be the prevalent occupational entity in those employees. Caused by joint effects of vibration and fluor, the clinical signs in this context demonstrate short development, occupational disablement and possible connection with fluorosis. Joint effects of vibration and calcium fluoride vs. influence of the isolated hazards show more compromised functions and changes of fluor kinetics in the body.

RESUMO

Up-to-date crystalline silicon production is characterized by such leading occupational hazards as higher level of dust with complicated chemical composition, aerosols that vary with technology and derive from disintegration of silica, crystalline silicon or condensation of silica. Experiments comparing prevalence of diseases caused by silica and crystalline silicon dusts in acute and chronic intratracheal administration and inhalation identified crystalline silicon as moderately fibrogenic and specified its MAC at 4 mg/m3 in the air of workplace.
