RESUMO

The germylone dimNHCGe (5, dimNHC=diimino N-heterocyclic carbene) undergoes a [2+2] cycloaddition with isocyanates RNCO (R=4-tolyl or 3,5-xylyl) to furnish novel alkyl carboxamido germylenes 7 (R=4-tolyl) and 8 (R=3,5-xylyl), featuring a C-C bond between the former carbene carbon and the isocyanate moiety. Heating a mixture of 8 with 4-tolyl isocyanate to 100 °C results in isocyanate metathesis, demonstrating reversible C-C bond formation on the reduced germanium compound. DFT calculations suggest that this process occurs via the reductive dissociation of isocyanate from 8 that regenerates the parent Ge(0) compound 5.

RESUMO

The germylone dimNHCGe (dimNHC=diimino N-heterocyclic carbene) reacts with azides N3 R (R=SiMe3 or p-tolyl) to furnish the first examples of germanium π-complexes, i. e. guanidine-ligated compounds (dimNHI-SiMe3 )Ge (NHI=N-heterocyclic imine, R=SiMe3 ) and (dimNHI-Tol)Ge (R=p-tolyl). DFT calculations suggest that these species are formed by a Staudinger type replacement of dinitrogen in the azide by a nucleophilic germylone, leading to a transient carbene adduct of iminogermylidene. Heating a solution of compound (dimNHI-SiMe3 )Ge to 70 °C results in extrusion of the iminogermylidene that further aggregates to produce the known [Me3 SiNGe]4 tetramer, whereas the imidazolylidene fragment transforms into an unusual heptatriene species that can be considered as a product of carbene insertion into the C-C bond of a pendant Ar substituent at the imidazolylidene nitrogen of the dimNHC. Reaction of (dimNHI-SiMe3 )Ge with tetrachloro-o-benzoquinone results in the net transfer of a germanium atom and formation of the free diimino-guanidine ligand. This ligand also forms when (dimNHI-SiMe3 )Ge is treated with azide N3 (p-Tol), with the germanium product being [(p-Tol)NGe]n.

RESUMO

In light field compression, graph-based coding is powerful to exploit signal redundancy along irregular shapes and obtains good energy compaction. However, apart from high time complexity to process high dimensional graphs, their graph construction method is highly sensitive to the accuracy of disparity information between viewpoints. In real-world light field or synthetic light field generated by computer software, the use of disparity information for super-rays projection might suffer from inaccuracy due to vignetting effect and large disparity between views in the two types of light fields, respectively. This paper introduces two novel projection schemes resulting in less error in disparity information, in which one projection scheme can also significantly reduce computation time for both encoder and decoder. Experimental results show projection quality of super-pixels across views can be considerably enhanced using the proposals, along with rate-distortion performance when compared against original projection scheme and HEVC-based or JPEG Pleno-based coding approaches.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Fractal dimension (D) characterises the size distribution of low attenuation clusters on CT and assesses the spatial heterogeneity of emphysema that per cent low attenuation volume (%LAV) cannot detect. This study tested the hypothesis that %LAV and D have different roles in predicting decline in FEV1, exacerbation and mortality in patients with COPD. METHODS: Chest inspiratory CT scans in the baseline and longitudinal follow-up records for FEV1, exacerbation and mortality prospectively collected over 10 years in the Hokkaido COPD Cohort Study were examined (n=96). The associations between CT measures and long-term outcomes were replicated in the Kyoto University cohort (n=130). RESULTS: In the Hokkaido COPD cohort, higher %LAV, but not D, was associated with a greater decline in FEV1 and 10-year mortality, whereas lower D, but not %LAV, was associated with shorter time to first exacerbation. Multivariable analysis for the Kyoto University cohort confirmed that lower D at baseline was independently associated with shorter time to first exacerbation and that higher LAV% was independently associated with increased mortality after adjusting for age, height, weight, FEV1 and smoking status. CONCLUSION: These well-established cohorts clarify the different prognostic roles of %LAV and D, whereby lower D is associated with a higher risk of exacerbation and higher %LAV is associated with a rapid decline in lung function and long-term mortality. Combination of %LAV and fractal D may identify COPD subgroups at high risk of a poor clinical outcome more sensitively.

RESUMO

Synthesis of reduced graphene oxide/TiO2 nanotubes (rGO/TNTs) composite is being attended. However, the synthesis of rGO/TNTs composite directly from graphite oxide with a greener approach is still challenging. In this study, we directly synthesized rGO/TNTs composite by a simple method from graphite oxide and titanium dioxide nanotube (TNTs) powder without involving any assistant agents. The formation of the graphene oxide (GO) was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, transmission electron microscope (TEM) image, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Besides, photoluminescence analysis (PL) was conducted to determine the defects of materials. The methylene blue (MB) photodegradation efficiency under visible light of rGO/TNTs composite achieved 80% after 180 min. In addition, the key of the photocatalytic mechanism of rGO/TNTs under visible light was systematically investigated via trapping experiments.

RESUMO

Mutation and reassortment of highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N1) viruses at the animal-human interface remain a major concern for emergence of viruses with pandemic potential. To understand the relationship of H5N1 viruses circulating in poultry and those isolated from humans, comprehensive phylogenetic and molecular analyses of viruses collected from both hosts in Vietnam between 2003 and 2010 were performed. We examined the temporal and spatial distribution of human cases relative to H5N1 poultry outbreaks and characterized the genetic lineages and amino acid substitutions in each gene segment identified in humans relative to closely related viruses from avian hosts. Six hemagglutinin clades and 8 genotypes were identified in humans, all of which were initially identified in poultry. Several amino acid mutations throughout the genomes of viruses isolated from humans were identified, indicating the potential for poultry viruses infecting humans to rapidly acquire molecular markers associated with mammalian adaptation and antiviral resistance.

RESUMO

Rural farming communities in northern Vietnam do not routinely practice vaccination for influenza A viruses (IAV) for either humans or poultry, which enables us to study transmission intensity via seroepidemiology. Using samples from a longitudinal cohort of farming households, we determined the number of symptomatic and asymptomatic human infections for seasonal IAV and avian A/H9 over 2 years. As expected, we detected virologically confirmed acute cases of seasonal IAV in humans, as well as large numbers of subclinical seroconversions to A/H1pdm [55/265 (21 %)], A/H3 [95/265 (36 %)] and A/H9 [24/265 (9 %)]. Five of the A/H9 human seroconverters likely represented true infections rather than heterosubtypic immunity, because the individuals seroconverted solely to A/H9. Among co-located poultry, we found significantly higher seroprevalance for A/H5 compared to A/H9 in both chickens and ducks [for northern study sites overall, 337/1105 (30.5 %) seropositive for A/H5 and 123/1105 (11.1 %) seropositive for A/H9].

RESUMO

Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is endemic in Vietnam, a country that plays an important role in livestock trade within Southeast Asia. The large populations of FMDV-susceptible species in Vietnam are important components of food production and of the national livelihood. In this study, we investigated the phylogeny of FMDV O/PanAsia in Vietnam, reconstructing the virus' ancestral host species (pig, cattle or buffalo), clinical stage (subclinical carrier or clinically affected) and geographical location. Phylogenetic divergence time estimation and character state reconstruction analyses suggest that movement of viruses between species differ. While inferred transmissions from cattle to buffalo and pigs and from pigs to cattle are well supported, transmission from buffalo to other species, and from pigs to buffalo may be less frequent. Geographical movements of FMDV O/PanAsia virus appears to occur in all directions within the country, with the South Central Coast and the Northeast regions playing a more important role in FMDV O/PanAsia spread. Genetic selection of variants with changes at specific sites within FMDV VP1 coding region was different depending on host groups analyzed. The overall ratio of non-synonymous to synonymous nucleotide changes was greater in pigs compared to cattle and buffalo, whereas a higher number of individual amino acid sites under positive selection were detected in persistently infected, subclinical animals compared to viruses collected from clinically diseased animals. These results provide novel insights to understand FMDV evolution and its association with viral spread within endemic countries. These findings may support animal health organizations in their endeavor to design animal disease control strategies in response to outbreaks.

RESUMO

A doping of small boron clusters with silicon atoms leads to the formation of stable boron nanoribbon structures. We present an analysis on the geometric and electronic structure, using MOs and electron localization function (ELF) maps, of boron ribbons represented by the dianions B10Si22- and B12Si22-. The effect of Si dopants and the origin of the underlying electron count [π2(n+1)σ2n] are analyzed. Interaction between both systems of delocalized π and σ electrons creating alternant B-B bonds along the perimeter of a ribbon induces its high thermodynamic stability. The enhanced stability is related to the self-locked phenomenon.

RESUMO

Asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) overlap syndrome (ACOS) is characterized by persistent airflow limitation with several features usually associated with asthma and several features usually associated with COPD. ACOS may be a special phenotype of a spectrum of chronic obstructive airway diseases, in which asthma and COPD are at the two opposite ends. The prevalence of ACOS varies considerably due to differing criteria being applied for diagnosis. Patients with ACOS utilize a large proportion of medical resources. They are associated with more frequent adverse outcomes than those with asthma or COPD alone. ACOS is currently a diagnostic challenge for physicians because there are no specific biomarkers to differentiate ACOS from asthma or COPD. The approach to diagnosing ACOS depends on the population from which the patient originated. The management of ACOS should be individualized to ensure the most effective treatment with minimal side effects. In this paper, we review the diagnostic criteria of ACOS used in previous studies, propose practical approaches to diagnosing and managing ACOS and raise some research questions related to ACOS.

RESUMO

In this study, the performance of poly(layered double hydroxides) [poly(LDHs)] beads as an adsorbent for arsenate removal from aqueous solution was investigated. The poly(LDHs) beads were prepared by immobilizing LDHs into spherical alginate/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-glutaraldehyde beads (spherical polymer beads). Batch adsorption studies were conducted to assess the effect of contact time, solution pH, initial arsenate concentrations and co-existing anions on arsenate removal performance. The potential reuse of these poly(LDHs) beads was also investigated. Approximately 79.1 to 91.2% of arsenic was removed from an arsenate solution (50 mg As L(-1)) by poly(LDHs). The adsorption data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm model, and the adsorption capacities of these poly(LDHs) beads at pH 8 were from 1.64 to 1.73 mg As g(-1), as calculated from the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The adsorption ability of the poly(LDHs) beads decreased by approximately 5-6% after 5 adsorption-desorption cycles. Phosphates markedly decreased arsenate removal. The effect of co-existing anions on the adsorption capacity declined in the following order: HPO4 (2-) >> HCO3 (-) > SO4 (2-) > Cl(-). A fixed-bed column study was conducted with real-life arsenic-containing water. The breakthrough time was found to be from 7 to 10 h. Under optimized conditions, the poly(LDHs) removed more than 82% of total arsenic. The results obtained in this study will be useful for further extending the adsorbents to the field scale or for designing pilot plants in future studies. From the viewpoint of environmental friendliness, the poly(LDHs) beads are a potential cost-effective adsorbent for arsenate removal in water treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The relative contributions of emphysema and airway remodelling to airflow limitation remain unclear in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We aimed to evaluate the relative contributions of emphysema and airway wall thickness measured by quantitative computed tomography (CT) to the prediction of airflow limitation in two separate COPD cohorts. METHODS: Pulmonary function tests and whole-lung CT were performed in 250 male smokers with COPD, including 167 from University Medical Center at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and 83 from Shiga University of Medical Science Hospital, Japan. The same CT analysis software was used to measure the percentage of low attenuation volume (%LAV) at the threshold of -950 Hounsfield units and the square root of wall area of a hypothetical airway with an internal perimeter of 10 mm (Pi10). The standardized coefficients in multiple linear regressions were used to evaluate the relative contributions of %LAV and Pi10 to predictions of FEV1 /FVC and FEV1 % predicted. RESULTS: Both %LAV and Pi10 independently predicted either forced expiratory volume in 1 s/forced vital capacity (FEV1 /FVC) or FEV1 % predicted (P ≤ 0.001 for all standardized coefficients). However, the absolute values of the standardized coefficients were 2-3 times higher for %LAV than for Pi10 in all prediction models. The results were consistent in the two COPD cohorts. CONCLUSIONS: %LAV predicts both FEV1 /FVC and FEV1 better than Pi10 in patients with COPD. Thus, emphysema may make a greater contribution to airflow limitation than airway remodelling in COPD.

RESUMO

The application of first-order derivative and wavelet transforms to UV spectra and ratio spectra was proposed for the simultaneous determination of ibuprofen and paracetamol in their combined tablets. A new hybrid approach on the combined use of first-order derivative and wavelet transforms to spectra was also discussed. In this application, DWT (sym6 and haar), CWT (mexh), and FWT were optimized to give the highest spectral recoveries. Calibration graphs in the linear concentration ranges of ibuprofen (12-32 mg/L) and paracetamol (20-40 mg/L) were obtained by measuring the amplitudes of the transformed signals. Our proposed spectrophotometric methods were statistically compared to HPLC in terms of precision and accuracy.

RESUMO

Residual feed intake (RFI) is the difference between the actual and expected feed intake of an animal based on its body weight and growth rate over a specific period. The objective of this study was to determine the RFI of buffalo calves using residuals from appropriate linear regression models involving dry matter intake (DMI), average daily gain (ADG) and mid-test metabolic body weight. Eighteen male Murrah buffalo calves of 5-7 months were selected and fed individually. A feeding trial using ad libitum feeding of total mixed ration (TMR, concentrate/roughage = 40:60) was conducted for 52 days in which the daily DMI, weekly body weight (BW) and growth rate of the calves were monitored. RFI of calves ranged from -0.20 to +0.23 kg/day. Mean DMI (in grams per kilogram of BW(0.75)) during the feeding trial period was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in low RFI group (79.66 g/kg BW(0.75)) compared to high RFI (87.74 g/kg BW(0.75)). Average initial BW, final BW and mid-test BW(0.75) did not differ (P > 0.05) between low and high RFI groups. Over the course of a trial period, low RFI group animals consumed 10% less feed compared to high RFI group of animals, yet performed in a comparable manner in terms of growth rate. Metabolizable energy for maintenance (MEm) was found to be significantly (P < 0.05) lower in low RFI group (13.54 MJ/100 kg BW) as compared to that of high RFI group (15.56 MJ/100 kg BW). The present study indicates that RFI is a promising selection tool for the selection of buffaloes for increased feed efficiency.

RESUMO

This work successfully synthesized the Cnts/calcined Zn-Co-LDHs (xCnts@ZnC) hybrid material using the Zn-Co-LDHs precursor. Using the co-precipitation method, we synthesized Zn-Co-LDHs onto Cnts ranging in mass from 0 to 80 mg. These were subsequently calcined at 550 °C to yield xCnts@ZnC (x = 2, 4, 6, 8). Based on the results, ZnC is found on the surface of Cnts in two phases: ZnO and ZnCo2O4. The photocatalytic activity of xCnts@ZnC is demonstrated by its capacity to degrade ofloxacin antibiotics (OFL) in the visible region; 6Cnts@ZnC (85.8%; k = 0.0099 min-1), shows the best decomposition rate constant, increasing by three times when compared to ZnC (53.3%; k = 0.0048 min-1). The h+, O2˙-, radicals are the main factors that determine of the decomposition process in the identified OFL decomposition mechanism of 6Cnts@ZnC, in which Cnts have the role of transporting and collecting electrons, minimizing the recombination between photogenerated electrons and holes. The OFL degradation pathways of 6Cnts@ZnC were also investigated and identified by the HPLC-MS spectrum and suggested the new degradation mechanism to small molecules that have nontoxic of small molecules to environment site by ADMET model. The OFL degradation obtained 96.44% and set equivalent of degradation after completing 300 min.

RESUMO

This study effectively fabricated photocatalytic membranes (∼5 cm diameter) assembled by γ-AlOOH-PVA (BOP) decorated heterostructural ZIF-67/AgCl/Ag composites by combing seeded secondary growth and photoreduction methods. First, the ZIF-67-seeded BOP membrane was shaped in a petri dish, followed by submerging in a 2-methylimidazole ligand for secondary growth to obtain the BOP/ZIF-67 membrane. Next, AgCl/Ag was formulated on the membrane by dipping it in an AgNO3 solution, followed by a photoreduction under visible LED light, resulting in a BOP/ZIF/AgCl/Ag membrane. The characterization showed that the membrane contained heterostructures of ZIF-67/AgCl/Ag anchored onto the BOP membrane. The BOP/ZIF/AgCl/Ag composite membranes exhibited enhanced light absorption and appeared the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Ag0, giving it a bandgap energy of ∼2.10 eV. Photodegradation under visible LED light irradiation showed that the BOP/ZIF/AgCl/Ag membrane efficiently removed tetracycline (TC) and Rhodamine B dye (RhB) with corresponding degradation efficiency of ∼99% (90 min) and ∼95% (140 min), giving reaction rates of ∼0.046 min-1 and 0.019 min-1, respectively. The photocatalytic mechanism and photodegradation pathways analyses provided insights into the degradations of organic pollutants. Significantly, the designed BOP/ZIF/AgCl/Ag membrane quickly recovered from the solution and was of good durability. The study provided an effective strategy for constructing heterostructural ZIF-67/AgCl/Ag composite membranes, which are efficient and eco-friendly photocatalyst materials.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Asthma management is strongly dependent on physician and patient beliefs and perceptions about the disease and its long-term treatment. The APPaRENT 3 study was conducted to explore factors influencing treatment choice and to understand patients' and physicians' attitudes and perspectives on the use of controller inhalers in regular versus flexible dosing for asthma management. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey of patients with asthma and treating physicians was conducted in seven countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam (patient survey only), Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Assessment was carried out through an online/face-to-face questionnaire, where patients' viewpoints were focused on their attitudes and beliefs about asthma and treatment adherence, whereas physicians' viewpoints were gathered on their attitudes and beliefs about asthma management, knowledge of and adherence to asthma treatment guidelines, and asthma treatment regimens. RESULTS: Overall, 1400 patients (mean age, 34 years) and 599 physicians (mean age, 43 years) were included in the survey. Physicians similarly prioritised symptom control (39%) and exacerbation reduction (40%) in moderate asthma, whereas patients prioritised symptom control (41%) over exacerbation reduction (22%). Although both groups (physicians, 86%; patients, 84%) perceived asthma as well-controlled, poor management was evident based on Asthma Control Test (ACT) scores (mean, 15.7; standard deviation, 4.14; 82% had an ACT score < 20) and high symptom burden (39% reported nighttime awakenings or early mornings ≥ 2 nights/week). Most patients (76%) with moderate asthma were prescribed regular dosing, with the most common treatment being inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)/long-acting ß2-agonist (LABA) with as-needed inhaled short-acting ß2-agonist (SABA; 20%). Among patients on maintenance and reliever therapy, 93% of patients received a separate inhaled reliever. CONCLUSIONS: Despite high symptom burden, patients overestimated their level of asthma control. Physicians prioritised controlling symptoms and reducing exacerbations as treatment goals for moderate asthma, often prescribing regular dosing with ICS/LABA with as-needed inhaled SABA.

Managing asthma depends a lot on what doctors and patients think about the illness and its long-term treatment. This study looked into what influences treatment decisions and what patients and doctors think about using inhalers regularly or on an as-needed basis to manage asthma across seven countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam [patient survey only], Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates). In this study, patients with asthma and doctors managing asthma completed an online/face-to-face questionnaire. The study aimed to understand what patients think about asthma and their treatment plan. Meanwhile, the doctors were asked what they think about managing asthma and how much they apply clinical guidelines for treating patients with asthma. Doctors believed it is equally important to control symptoms and prevent worsening of symptoms in patients with moderate asthma, while patients cared more about controlling symptoms than preventing worsening of symptoms. While doctors and patients both regarded asthma as well-controlled, many patients had low Asthma Control Test scores and experienced a lot of symptoms, suggesting that they are poor perceivers of asthma control. Most patients with moderate asthma were given regular treatment, usually with inhaled corticosteroid combined with long-acting ß2-agonist along with as-needed short-acting ß2-agonist as a reliever. Most patients who were prescribed the same inhaler for regular use and as a reliever also had a separate inhaler for quick relief of symptoms. This study shows the need for patients and doctors to have better conversations about asthma, its treatments, and what to expect from them.

RESUMO

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using a Nelumbo nucifera dry seed extract, which is a simple, non-toxic, eco-friendly "green material". The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by the color changes and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy. The AgNPs were stable at room temperature for 2 months. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed the formation of well-dispersed and spherical shapes. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of the synthesized AgNPs showed the formation of spherical nanoparticles, 5.03-16.62 nm in size. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated the involvement of amine, aromatic and alkynes groups in the synthetic process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the crystalline nature of AgNPs. These AgNPs were highly toxic to found to Gram negative bacteria.

RESUMO

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may result in a severe acute respiratory syndrome that leads to a worldwide pandemic. Despite the increasing understanding of COVID-19 disease, the mortality rate of hospitalized COVID-19 patients remains high. Objective: To investigate the risk factors related to the mortality of admitted COVID-19 patients during the peak of the epidemic from August 2021 to October 2021 in Vietnam. Methods: This is a prospective cohort study performed at the Hospital for Rehabilitation-Professional diseases. The baseline and demographic data, medical history, clinical examination, the laboratory results were recorded for patients admitted to the hospital with confirmed COVID-19. A radiologist and a pulmonologist will read the chest radiographs on admission and calculate the Brixia scores to classify the severity of lung abnormalities. Patients were followed up until beingrecovered or their death. Comparison of clinical and subclinical characteristics between recovery and death groups to find out risk factors related to the death of COVID-19 patients. Results: Among 104 admitted COVID-19 patients, men accounted for 42.3%, average age of 61.7 ± 13.7. The most common symptoms were fever 76.9%, breathlessness 74%, and fatigue 53.8%. The majority (84.6%) of the study population had at least one co-morbidity, including hypertension (53.8%), diabetes (25.9%), gastritis (19.2%), ischemic heart disease (15.4) %), stroke (9.6%) and osteoarthritis (9.6%). The rate of mild and moderate COVID-19 is 13.4%, severe 32.7%, and critical 40.4%. There are 88 inpatients (84.6%) who needed respiratory support. The median hospital stay was 13 days (IQR 10-17.75 days). The rate of intubated patients with mechanical ventilation was 31.7%. The overall mortality rate was 29.8%. Risk factors related to death included Brixia scores > 9, Urea > 7 mmol/L, Ferrtin > 578 ng/ml, Failure to get vaccinated, Age > 60 years, and Low Oxygen SpO2 < 87% (BUFFALO). Conclusion: The main result of the study is the independent risk factors related to the death of admitted COVID-19 patients including Brixia scores > 9, Urea > 7 mmol/L, Ferrtin > 578 ng/ml, Failure to get vaccinated, Age > 60 years, and Low Oxygen SpO2 < 87% ((BUFFALO) which suggests that these COVID-19 patients should be closely followed up.

RESUMO

This study was conducted to evaluate extraction yield, antioxidant content, antioxidant capacity and antibacterial activity of extracts obtained from submerged mycelium (ME) and fruiting body (FBE) of Phellinus robiniae NTH-PR1. The results showed that yields of ME and FBE reached 14.84 ± 0.63 and 18.89 ± 0.86%, respectively. TPSC, TPC, and TFC were present in both mycelium and fruiting body, and the more contents of them were found in fruiting body. The concentrations of TPSC, TPC and TFC in ME and FBE were 17.61 ± 0.67 and 21.56 ± 0.89 mg GE g-1, 9.31 ± 0.45 and 12.14 ± 0.56 mg QAE g-1, and 8.91 ± 0.53 and 9.04 ± 0.74 mg QE g-1, respectively. EC50 values for DPPH radical scavenging revealed FBE (260.62 ± 3.33 µg mL-1) was more effective than ME (298.21 ± 3.61 µg mL-1). EC50 values for ferrous ion chelating in ME and FBE were 411.87 ± 7.27 and 432.39 ± 2.23 µg mL-1, respectively. Thus, both extracts were able to inhibit Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogenic bacterial strains, at concentrations ranging in 25-100 mg mL-1 of ME and 18.75-75 mg mL-1 of FBE for Gram-positive bacteria; ranging in 75-100 mg mL-1 of ME and 50-75 of FBE for Gram-negative bacteria. Overall submerged mycelial biomass and fruiting bodies of Ph. robiniae NTH-PR1 can be considered as useful natural sources for development of functional food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetic products or cosmeceuticals.
