RESUMO

Most of the previous publications investigating the clinical features of ischemic cerebrovascular diseases stated headache as a main symptom. According to our experiences however headache seemed to be a rare symptom accompanying ischemic attacks. The clinical history of 204 cerebrovascular patients treated at the Department of Neurology of Semmelweis Medical University was analysed prospectively and retrospectively with special regard to the frequency of headache appearing as a clinical symptom. Our investigations did not prove causal relationship between ischemic disease and headache.

RESUMO

The authors describe the cases of two mechanically ventilated septic patients, in whom developed during their illness with the signs of severe tetraparesis critical illness neuropathy. In both cases the first sign of the neuropathy was the respirator dependency despite the improving neurological status. The severe general condition of the patients and the administered sedatives obscured the neurological signs for a long time, and only the development of a severe tetraparesis raised the suspicion of the critical illness neuropathy. In the first case the diagnosis was made by exclusion, but in the second case it was proved with the help of EMG and the histological examination of the m. biceps brachii. The authors discuss the clinical relevance, neurological and electrophysiological signs and the problems of the differential diagnosis of this disease, which is quite common among the critically ill, septic patients.

RESUMO

Insulin imprinting of Tetrahymena pyriformis in different growth phases had been investigated. Cells formed in the early logarithmic phase (18-hour culture) showed enhanced hormone binding at the second encounter with the hormone proving that imprinting had developed. This phenomenon was not observed in cells formed in the late logarithmic phase (42-hour culture) or in the stationary phase (66-hour culture). Lipid transformation processes, alteration of the guanyl cyclase activity and enhanced cell division may be responsible for this effect. Cell-growth phase G1 was especially favourable for development of imprinting.
