Forest species are characterized by their wealth of essential oils (EOs), which play key requested for alternative control methods against weeds, fungi and pests. This study reports the chemical composition and highlight the antioxidant, antifungal and phytotoxic properties of the EOs obtained from Eucalyptus populifolia Desf, Eucalyptus woollsiana and Eucalyptus exserta. The EOs were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Their antioxidant, antifungal and phytotoxic properties were investigated. All EOs displayed a specific richness in eucalyptol (75.94-7.01%), camphene (6.97-0.4%) globulol (5.20-5.83%) and α-pinene (0.71-12.82 %). EOs isolated from E. populifolia exhibited significant antioxidant activity. Furthermore, all investigated EOs displayed significant antifungal properties against four phytopathogenic fungi belonging to Fusarium genus. The phytotoxic activity against five weeds showed varying effectiveness on seed germination and seedling growth, which exhibited greater effectiveness compared to glyphosate. Eucalyptus EOs have the potential to be used in the formulation of biopesticides.

BACKGROUND: Zinc supplementation has been considered a potential therapy for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We aimed to examine zinc efficacy in adult patients with COVID-19 infection. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter trial. Patients who were tested positive for COVID-19 without end-organ failure were randomized to oral zinc (n = 231) or matching placebo (n = 239) for 15 days. The primary combined outcome was death due to COVID-19 or intensive care unit (ICU) admission ≤30 days after randomization. Secondary outcomes included length of hospital stay for inpatients and duration of COVID-19 symptoms with COVID-19-related hospitalization for outpatients. RESULTS: 190 patients (40.4%) were ambulatory and 280 patients (59.6%) were hospitalized. Mortality at 30 days was 6.5% in the zinc group and 9.2% in the placebo group (OR: .68; 95% CI .34-1.35); ICU admission rates were, respectively, 5.2% and 11.3% (OR: .43; 95% CI .21-.87). Combined outcome was lower in the zinc group versus the placebo group (OR: .58; 95% CI .33-.99). Consistent results were observed in prespecified subgroups of patients aged <65 years, those with comorbidity, and those who needed oxygen therapy at baseline. Length of hospital stay was shorter in the zinc group versus the placebo group (difference: 3.5 days; 95% CI 2.76-4.23) in the inpatient group; duration of COVID-19 symptoms decreased with zinc treatment versus placebo in outpatients (difference: 1.9 days; 95% CI .62-2.6). No severe adverse events were observed during the study. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that, in COVID-19 patients, oral zinc can decrease 30-day death, ICU admission rate and can shorten symptom duration. Clinical Trials Registration. OBJECTIVE: The study compared the efficacy and tolerability of piroxicam gel and a new topical combination of medicinal plant products (Soulagel®; Belpharma Tunisia) to treat pain caused by soft tissue injuries. METHODS: Patients (n = 1,525) were assigned to receive piroxicam gel or Soulagel. Efficacy assessments included a change of at least 50% in the pain-on-movement visual numeric scale rating from emergency department discharge (baseline) to day 7 final assessment, as well as the time required to reach pain resolution criteria, the need for rescue analgesia, patients' satisfaction, and the rate of adverse effects. RESULTS: At day 7, 1,216 patients (79.7%) achieved at least 50% reduction in visual numeric scale rating from baseline: 623 patients (82.4%) in the Soulagel group vs 593 patients (77.1%) in the piroxicam group (P = 0.01). Time to decrease pain on movement by 50% was significantly higher with piroxicam gel than with Soulagel (34 ± 1 vs 33 ± 1 days, respectively; P = 0.54). At day 7, 96.4% of patients in the Soulagel group declared being "very satisfied" to "satisfied," vs 68% in the piroxicam group (P < 0.001). There were no major adverse events in either group. CONCLUSIONS: Soulagel is not inferior to piroxicam gel for managing pain related to a soft tissue injuries. Further studies will help ascertain whether this new gel offers an alternative treatment option for this common emergency department condition.

The objective of this work is the study of the antifungal and antibacterial activity of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum S61 strains, isolated from traditional fermenting green olives against Rhodotorula glutinis UMP 22 and Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19117, and its application in meat as bio-preservative agent. The cell-free supernatant (CFS) of Lpb. plantarum S61 shows high inhibition zones, which are 22.45 ± 0.49 and 17.75 ± 0.35 mm, against Rhodotorula glutinis and Listeria monocytogenes. The minimum fungicidal and bactericidal concentrations of the CFS obtained are 8% (v/v) and 10% (v/v), respectively. The competition assay, realized in liquid medium by co-culture of Lpb. plantarum S61 with Rho Rhodotorula glutinis and L. monocytogenes, led to inhibition percentages of 77.72% and 89.52%, respectively. However, the antimicrobial activity of Lpb. plantarum S61 was revealed a proteinaceous nature. Lpb. plantarum S61 strain allowed the reduction of L. monocytogenes in minced poultry meat during 7 days of storage at 4 °C. In addition, Lpb. plantarum S61 improved the physicochemical and color parameters of poultry minced meat. Lpb. plantarum S61 and/or its antimicrobial compounds can be applied as bio-preservative agent in meat product and food industry.

Antimicrobial and probiotic properties were sought in Tunisian raw camel milk. One hundred and forty strains were isolated for this purpose. Initially, a screening based on growth kinetics under gastrointestinal tract (GIT) conditions allowed us to select only one strain that showed good resistance to pH 3 and 5% bovine bile. This isolate named LC38 was assayed for its autoaggregation capacity, surface hydrophobicity, antibiotic sensitivity, haemolytic and antimicrobial activities. The findings revealed strain LC38 sensitivity to several antibiotics, no haemolytic activity and antimicrobial activities against six pathogenic bacteria with an inhibition diameter that varies between 28 and 43 mm. Furthermore, this study revealed that this strain had good autoaggregation characteristics after 18 h of incubation and a high surface hydrophobicity that enhanced its adhesion ability to epithelial cells and for biofilm formation. Strain LC38 was submitted to classical identification with API50CH and to 16S rRNA gene sequencing, which revealed that the strain could be allocated to Lactiplantibacillus plantarum. Analysis of the structural composition of strain LC38 by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis showed that probiotic suspension contains organic acids (lactic acid, succinic acid and citric acids). The application of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LC38 on wound site in a diabetic rat model enhanced significantly wound healing activity and accelerated the wound closure after 14 days of wound induction. Altogether, these results demonstrated that LC38 isolate from camel milk has a number of promising properties that make it a prominent candidate with strong wound healing potential presumably achieved through its antimicrobial activities.

AIM OF STUDY: Cardiac output (CO) responses to acute changes in body position and Valsalva maneuver (VM) were proposed to assess cardiac contractile reserve. We investigated the value of sitting position (SP), leg raising (LR), and VM for identifying heart failure (HF) in patients with undifferentiated dyspnea. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It is a prospective study including patients over 18 years old admitted to the emergency department (ED) for dyspnea. Bioimpedance CO was measured at baseline, under SP, LR, and VM. HF diagnosis was based on clinical assessment, serum levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and echocardiography findings. Study population was divided into patients with heart failure (HF group) and patients without HF (HF- group). Diagnostic performance of CO change under the three maneuvers was calculated by sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratio and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: 290 patients were enrolled in the study. The final diagnosis was dyspnea due to congestive heart failure in 147 patients (50.7%). CO change with VM was the most accurate exam in identifying congestive heart failure as the cause of dyspnea with a sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios of 79%, 60%, 1.97, and 0.36 respectively. Area under ROC curve was 0.62(95% CI, 0.55-0.69), 0.63(95% CI, 0.56-0.69), and 0.70(95% CI, 0.64-0.76) respectively for SP, LR, and VM. In a multivariate analysis, CO change with VM, but not with SP or LR, carried independent diagnostic value (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: the diagnosis of HF can be aided with use of analyzing the effect of VM on non-invasively measured CO among patients admitted to the ED with undifferentiated dyspnea. Diagnostic yield of SP and LR was poor.

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exhibit frequent acute exacerbations (AE). The objectives of this study were first to evaluate the prevalence of pathogens associated to these episodes by combining conventional bacteriology and multiplex viral and bacterial PCR assays in sputum specimens, and second to determine whether C-reactive protein (CRP) value and clinical outcome could be influenced by the type of microbial agent(s) recovered from these samples. A cohort of 84 Tunisian patients hospitalized at the emergency room for AECOPD was investigated prospectively for the semi-quantitative detection of bacteria by conventional culture (the threshold of positivity was of 107 CFU/ml) and for the detection of viral genome and DNA of atypical bacteria by quantitative PCR using two commercial multiplex respiratory kits (Seegene and Fast-track). The two kits exhibited very similar performances although the Seegene assay was a bit more sensitive. A large number and variety of pathogens were recovered from the sputum samples of these 84 patients, including 15 conventional bacteria, one Chlamydia pneumoniae and 63 respiratory viruses, the most prevalent being rhinoviruses (n = 33) and influenza viruses (n = 13). From complete results available for 74 patients, the presence of bacteria was significantly associated with risk of recurrence at 6 and 12 months post-infection. The combination of these different markers appears useful for delineating correctly the antimicrobial treatment and for initiating a long-term surveillance in those patients with high risk of recurrent exacerbation episodes. A prospective study is required for confirming the benefits of this strategy aimed at improving the stewardship of antibiotics.

The present study was undertaken to investigate the expression, purification and biological activities of a novel Triticum durum Annexin 12 protein (TdAnn12). The findings indicated that the molecular weight of the purified TdAnn12 was estimated to 35 kDa. The purified TdAnn12 protein was modulated by, Methyl-jasmonate, and ethephon treatments. The purified TdAnn12 protein displayed good antimicrobial activities against 9 tested pathogenic bacteria. The antioxidant activities showed that TdAnn12 displayed an excellent DPPH scavenging ability with an IC50 of 8.33 µg/ml and a strong Beta-carotene bleaching inhibition after 120 min of incubation with an IC50 of 2 µg/ml the cytotoxic effects of the TdAnn 12 showed that HepG2 and MCF-7 were examined by MTT assay. The IC50 values were 250.35 and 400.25 µg/ml for HepG2 and MCF-7 cells, respectively. The inhibitory effects of this TdAnn12 was assessed in vivo against Listeria monocytogenes, inoculated in minced beef meat at 6.105 CFU/g amended with different concentrations of the purified TdAnn12 and stored at 4 °C for 21 days. Results showed an excellent inhibitory effect of TdAnn12 of this pathogenic bacterium at 4 °C. Overall, the TdAnn12 have potential application as active ingredients in food and pharmaceutical industry.

AIM OF THE STUDY: The diagnosis of heart failure in the emergency department (ED) is challenging. The aim of this study was to evaluate systolic time intervals (STIs) using phonoelectrocardiography for the diagnosis of heart failure (HF) in ED patients with undifferentiated dyspnea. METHODS: A total of 855 patients with dyspnea and suspected HF were prospectively enrolled. They underwent echocardiographic measurements of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) testing and computerised phonoelectrocardiography to assess STIs including electromechanical activation time (EMAT), left ventricular ejection time (LVET) and EMAT/LVET ratio. Diagnosis accuracy of STIs was calculated including sensitivity, specificity, likelihood ratio and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: Patients with HF (n = 530) had significantly higher EMAT and lower LVET compared with non-HF patients. ROC curve c-statistic was 0.74, 0.72 and 0.78 for EMAT, LVET and EMAT/LVET respectively. Sensitivity and specificity of EMAT/LVET at a cut-off = 40% were 72% and 88% respectively. EMAT/LVET had the highest correlation with LVEF (r = 0.48). In patients with intermediate BNP (n = 107), positive likelihood ratio increased from 1.8 with BNP alone to 3.6 with BNP combined to EMAT/LVET. Patients without HF had STIs values not significantly different from those with preserved LVEF (≥45%). CONCLUSIONS: Given their immediate availability, phonoelectrocardiography STIs' parameters and particularly EMAT/LVET ratio could have an important role in the diagnosis approach of HF in patients with undifferentiated dyspnea in the ED.

In the era of the diseasomes and interactome networks, linking genetics with phenotypic traits in Turner syndrome should be studied thoroughly. As a part of this stratagem, mosaicism of both X and Y chromosome which is a common finding in TS and an evaluation of congenital heart diseases in the different situations of mosaic TS types, can be helpful in the identification of disturbed sex chromosomes, genes and signaling pathway actors. Here we report the case of a mosaic TS associated to four left-sided CHD, including BAV, COA, aortic aneurysms and dissections at an early age. The mosaicism included two cell lines, well-defined at the cytogenetic and molecular levels: a cell line which is monosomic for Xp and Xq genes (45,X) and another which is trisomic for pseudoautosomal genes that are present on the X and Y chromosomes and escape X inactivation: 45,X[8]/46,X,idic(Y)(pter→q11.2::q11.2→pter)[42]. This case generates two hypotheses about the contribution of genes linked to the sex chromosomes and the signaling pathways involving these genes, in left-sided heart diseases. The first hypothesis suggests the interaction between X chromosome and autosomal genes or loci of aortic development, possibly dose-dependent, and which could be in the framework of TGF-ß-SMAD signaling pathways. The second implies that left-sided congenital heart lesions involve sex chromosomes loci. The reduced dosage of X chromosome gene(s), escaping X inactivation during development, contributes to this type of CHD. Regarding our case, these X chromosome genes may have homologues at the Y chromosome, but the process of inactivation of the centromeres of the isodicentric Y spreads to the concerned Y chromosome genes. Therefore, this case emerges as an invitation to consider the mosaics of Turner syndrome and to study their phenotypes in correlation with their genotypes to discover the underlying developmental and genetic mechanisms, especially the ones related to sex chromosomes.

BACKGROUND: Digoxin is a substrate of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and organic anion transporting polypeptide transporters that are encoded by ABCB1 and SLCO1B3 genes. Genetic polymorphisms in both genes may explain inter-individual variability of serum digoxin concentration (SDC). This study evaluates the possible effect of the most common ABCB1 and SLCO1B3 polymorphisms on SDC after a single oral dose of digoxin in Tunisian atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. METHODS: ABCB1 and SLCO1B3 genotypes were analyzed in 102 patients with AF who received digoxin (0.5 mg) without (group I, n = 58) or with the co-administration of P-gp inhibitors (group II, n = 44). SDCs were determined at 6 h following the oral dose. RESULTS: SDCs levels were significantly higher in patients who were co-administered P-gp inhibitors. No influence was noted in ABCB1 and SLCO1B3 polymorphisms on SDC in group I patients. However, SDCs values were significantly different among ABCB1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) genotypes of 2677G>T/A (TT, GG>GT, p < 0.05) and 3435C>T (TT, CC>CT, p < 0.05) only in group II with no effect of 1236C>T and SLCO1B3 SNPs. CONCLUSION: Results suggest that P-gp inhibitors and ABCB1 gene polymorphisms may affect digoxin pharmacokinetics.

BACKGROUND: Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) is a metabolic factor that increases plasma triglyceride levels by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase (LPL). The objective of this study was to investigate the association of ANGPTL4 variants (E40K and T266M) with triglyceride levels and with cardiovascular risk factors, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS) and obesity in type 2 diabetic Tunisian population. METHODS: We investigated the effect of the tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs1044250 (T266M) and rs116843064 (E40K) with triglyceride (TG) levels and CAD risk factors in a cohort of 220 patients undergoing coronary angiography for the evaluation of stable CAD, all of whom had (type 2 diabetes) T2D and were at least overweight. Multivariate logistic regressions were performed on association studies. RESULTS: TT genotype of rs1044250 (T266M variant) showed a protective effect on CVD risk in CAD group patients (OR 1.92, 95% CI 0.601.42, p =0.05) compared with control Group patients (OR 1.17, 95% CI 0.70-1.66, p = 0.72). Likewise, GA genotype of rs116843064 (E40K variant): (OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.54-1.65, p =0.01) for the CAD group compared with control Group patients (OR 1.12, 95% CI 0.68-1.74, p = 0.074). CONCLUSIONS: ANGPTL4 variants are associated with, not only lower fasting triglyceride levels, but also a decreased cardiovascular risk in T2D Tunisian patients. So, T266M and E40K polymorphism predicts cardiovascular disease risk in Type 2 diabetic Tunisian population.

BACKGROUND: Ischemic stroke (IS) usually initiates inflammation and oxidative stress leading to neuronal death. Diabetes and impaired fasting glucose are associated with incidence of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular diseases. METHODS: In the present study, we assessed the relationship of fasting glucose with antioxidative parameters (erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase [GPx] and superoxide dismutase [SOD] activities) and inflammatory markers (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein [hs-CRP] and fibrinogen) in IS patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In addition, we determined factors associated with the risk of IS among these patients. Antioxidative, inflammatory, and lipid parameters were measured in 196 patients with IS (117diabetics and 79 nondiabetics). RESULTS: After adjustment of covariates, multiple logistic regression analysis showed that SOD and GPx significantly decreased the risk of IS among patients with and without T2DM. However, hs-CRP increased the risk of IS. For the diabetic patients, fasting glucose was positively correlated with hs-CRP and fibrinogen and was negatively correlated with GPx and SOD levels. In addition, fasting glucose and hemoglobin A1c or glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) have been shown to increase the risk of IS in diabetic patients. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that the antioxidant activity of plasma may be an important factor that provides protection from IS. hs-CRP concentrations can be used as a clinical screening tool to identify individuals with higher risk of IS. Finally, fasting glucose and HbA1c may also be useful indicators for cerebrovascular risk in diabetic patients that may be mediated by low levels of antioxidative defense markers and high inflammation status.

BACKGROUND: Melatonin, zinc, and multivitamins are among most recommended supplements in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We aimed to examine the efficacy and safety of this association in the treatment of COVID-19 and COVID-like illnesses. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter prospective, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial. Patients with no medical history consulting the emergency department for covid and covid-like illness and who were not hospitalized were included. Patients were assigned in a 1:1 ratio to the treatment or the placebo group. The primary outcome was studying the effectiveness of zinc multivitamin supplement and melatonin in the treatment of COVID and -like illnesses symptoms' according to the time from randomization to clinical improvement. The pre-specified secondary outcomes were date of disappearance of symptoms present on admission, appearance of an adverse effect due to the administration of the treatment, number of patients developing complications, requiring hospitalization, requiring respiratory support. RESULTS: One hundred sixty four patients were eligible for the study and were randomized to either the treatment group or the placebo group. Overall, 128 of the 164 patients had a PCR for SARS-CoV-2, yielding a positive PCR result in 49.1% of them. Regarding the disappearance of all initial presenting symptoms: on the 5th day of the follow-up, there was a significant difference between the two groups with a p value 0.04;On the 10th day, there was a significant difference too with p value of 0.038. There were no significant differences between the two groups in recovery during the 15th day of follow-up p>0.5. Finally, 100% of patients fully recovered in the treatment group vs 98.8% in the placebo group. No severe adverse events were reported throughout the trial. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that daily doses of Melatonin, zinc and vitamins did significantly reduce the duration of symptoms accelerating its disappearance among patients consulting with COVID-19 or COVID-19 like illness.

INTRODUCTION: The assessment of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath or sweat represents a potential non-invasive and rapid diagnostic tool for respiratory diseases. OBJECTIVE: To determine if trained dogs can reliably identify the odour associated with COVID19. METHODS: This is a monocentric prospective study carried out in the Emergency Department (ED) of a university hospital fromJulyto November 2021.Axillary sweat samples from all patients were collected bytwo trained health care professionals. The samples were collected in the form of sterile gauze swabs placed under the armpits for at least 4 h for each patient.Then, Tubes wereshiftedto the double-blind dog training centre for VOC detection by two individuals. RESULTS: Dogs were tested using a total of 129 axillary sweat samples; 69 of the 107 patients who tested positive for COVID-19 based on their odours had a positive PCR/Antigen test and 19 of the 22 patients who were tested negative for COVID-19 by the dogs had a negative PCR test. The sniffer dog infection detection method had a sensitivity of 95.83% and a specificity of 33.33%. The PPV was 64.49% and the NPVwas 86.36%. The measurement of the intensity of the connection between the two variables (disease/sign) was very strong (Q = 0.84). This link is statistically significant (X2 = 19.13) with a probability p ≤ 0.001. CONCLUSION: Overall, the use of trained detection dogs as a screening method for SARS-CoV-2 is an interesting avenue of research that warrants further exploration and validation.

This study aimed to first investigate the immuno-modulatory effects of six newly isolated lactic acid bacteria (LAB) on the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of Wistar rats. Except for Lactobacillus plantarum TN8, all the other strains were noted to induce high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-12 and low levels of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. The strains also generated low ratios of IL-10/IL-12 cytokine. Strain TN8 was, on the other hand, noted to induce an increase in anti-inflammatory IL-10 cytokine secretion rates and a decrease in pro-inflammatory IL-12, IFN-γ and TNF-α cytokine production. The oral administration of TN8 improved the hepatic and urinary functions of obese rats by inducing decreases (P < 0.05) in alanine amino transferase (ALAT), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), plasmatic triglycerides, total cholesterol concentrations, creatinine, urea, and body weight when compared to the control group of animals that underwent an increase in aspartate amino transferase (ASAT) and high density lipoprotein (HDL). Overall, the findings indicate that strain TN8 exhibited a number of attractive properties that might open new promising opportunities for the improvement of various parameters related to animal health performance and the avoidance of antibiotics and drugs as promoting factors.

Functional ingredients are substances that offer health benefits beyond their nutritional value. A novel heteropolysaccharide, named Linum water soluble polysaccharide (LWSP) was purified from Linum usitatissimum L. seeds powder and identified, via TLC and NMR, as a polymer composite of α1-2-L-arabinose, ß1-2-D-xylose, ß1-2-D-mannose and α1-2-D-glucose. The effect of incorporating LWSP on the quality of beef sausages, stuffed into collagen casings after 15 days of storage at 4 °C, was evaluated for texture profile analysis, color, sensory analysis and oxidation attributes. The new sausages formulated with LWSP recorded good textural attributes via reduction of cohesiveness, hardness and chewiness and improved the sensory features, especially texture, color and general acceptability. In addition, substituting ascorbic acid, a synthetic antioxidant, via the biological ingredient LWSP, retarded lipid oxidation and improved the oxymyoglobin rate until 15 days of storage. LWSP was proved to be a good natural substituent to synthetic antioxidants that definitely improves the oxidation stability and quality of sausages.

This study aimed to determine the probiotic potential of 100 strains of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) isolated from different intestinal segments of indigenous poultry in Tunisia. The strains were submitted to a battery of standard tests and criteria commonly used for determining their probiotic properties and attributes. The findings revealed that 19 of the isolates exhibited antimicrobial activity against 4 pathogenic bacteria, and that 4 (TN1, TN8, TN7, and TN13) showed good resistance to pH 3 and 5% bovine bile. Three isolates, namely TN1, TN8, and TN13, showed sensitivity to several antibiotics and were, therefore, selected for further enzymatic activity assays. Two isolates, namely TN1 and TN8, showed high efficacy of adhesion to chicken enterocytes. The cytokines released after stimulation by the two isolates showed high anti-inflammatory profiles, with an increased rate of Interleukin-10 (IL-10) production for the TN8 strain. Showing the highest performance, TN8 was submitted to 16S rRNA gene sequencing, which revealed that the strain was of the species Lactobacillus plantarum. Overall, the findings indicate that the Lactobacilli from poultry intestine has a number of promising properties that make it candidate for application as a probiotic additive in poultry industry.
