The article considers "the effect of healthy worker" as a source of systematic errors that makes epidemiological studies in occupational medicine less reliable and this is a significant problem. It is very important to analyze the professions and work conditions under which the phenomenon of self-selection and artificial «health improvement¼ of working population is to be expected. The scientific publications from open databases and other sources, discussing effect of self-selection under various work conditions and in various professions were analyzed. The data related to effect of healthy worker during labor activity in conditions of contact with industrial dust, allergens, radiation, physical load is discussed. In development of self-selection, psycho-emotional intense work is of greatest importance. In many specialties, this effect plays an essential role in the formation of rate of arterial hypertension. The substantial staff turnover and self-selection are associated with shift and night work, disorders of sleep-wake rhythm in various specialties. The underestimation of the effect of healthy worker may result in underestimation of the degree of harmfulness of work. On the contrary, its analysis will permit to obtain more accurate data on the impact of occupational work conditions on human organism and to develop methods of professional selection and recommendations on diseases prevention.

The study covers results of thorough clinical and functional examination of workers engaged into contemporary chemical production. The authors studied effects caused in immunity parameters, respiratory organs and skin by sensitizing and irritating chemicals. Findings are that the most significant changes in external respiration parameters and high predisposition to respiratory diseases are associated with specific sensitizing to industrial allergen and with higher IgE levels.

The state of peripheral and central hemodynamics was examined in 603 workers engaged into shifted duty expeditions in West Siberia, considering the length of service in the shifted duty cycle. The examination revealed high occurrence of cardiovascular diseases with prevalent hypertension. Rheographic findings proved that in 5 years of the shifted duty work high blood pressure develops with increased peripheral vascular tone (especially in brain) and enhanced contractility of left ventricle. Important role in the high blood pressure formation is played by changes of hemodynamics in first days after the duty shift.

The article presents data on influence of percutaneous laser irradiation of blood on central and peripheral hemodynamics in 24 riveters facing vibration disease. Clinical improvement was seen in all the examinees. Rheography showed high efficiency of the method in the patients with initially increased vascular tone in hands (angiospastic syndrome), possible correction of disordered cerebral circulation.
