RESUMO

Tachykinin receptor 3 (TACR3) is a member of the tachykinin receptor family and falls within the rhodopsin subfamily. As a G protein-coupled receptor, it responds to neurokinin B (NKB), its high-affinity ligand. Dysfunctional TACR3 has been associated with pubertal failure and anxiety, yet the mechanisms underlying this remain unclear. Hence, we have investigated the relationship between TACR3 expression, anxiety, sex hormones, and synaptic plasticity in a rat model, which indicated that severe anxiety is linked to dampened TACR3 expression in the ventral hippocampus. TACR3 expression in female rats fluctuates during the estrous cycle, reflecting sensitivity to sex hormones. Indeed, in males, sexual development is associated with a substantial increase in hippocampal TACR3 expression, coinciding with elevated serum testosterone and a significant reduction in anxiety. TACR3 is predominantly expressed in the cell membrane, including the presynaptic compartment, and its modulation significantly influences synaptic activity. Inhibition of TACR3 activity provokes hyperactivation of CaMKII and enhanced AMPA receptor phosphorylation, associated with an increase in spine density. Using a multielectrode array, stronger cross-correlation of firing was evident among neurons following TACR3 inhibition, indicating enhanced connectivity. Deficient TACR3 activity in rats led to lower serum testosterone levels, as well as increased spine density and impaired long-term potentiation (LTP) in the dentate gyrus. Remarkably, aberrant expression of functional TACR3 in spines results in spine shrinkage and pruning, while expression of defective TACR3 increases spine density, size, and the magnitude of cross-correlation. The firing pattern in response to LTP induction was inadequate in neurons expressing defective TACR3, which could be rectified by treatment with testosterone. In conclusion, our study provides valuable insights into the intricate interplay between TACR3, sex hormones, anxiety, and synaptic plasticity. These findings highlight potential targets for therapeutic interventions to alleviate anxiety in individuals with TACR3 dysfunction and the implications of TACR3 in anxiety-related neural changes provide an avenue for future research in the field.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negative bacterium that is considered to be a major causal organism of nosocomial infection. This study brought data-specific evidence to reveal the efficacy of secretory Immunoglobulin A (IgA) measurement in diagnosing pulmonary P. aeruginosa infection and claims its validation as a diagnostic marker. This study has included controls and patients of Pseudomonas and grouped them into four, namely, controls, chronic cases, intermittent cases, and negative group. The last group, that is, the "Negative" group, is the ones who had a history of infection but currently showed negative blood culture. The level of sIgA was quantified in all the patients and the controls and then their status of pulmonary infection was determined by their blood culture. ANOVA and Pearson Chi-Square were employed for showing the association between sIgA and pulmonary infection. The mean value of salivary sIgA has been found the highest in chronic cases followed by Intermittent cases and Negative Infections. The boxplot diagram showed several parameters of sIgA quantification in each group and control. ANOVA and Pearson Chi-square (P<0.005) tests showed a significant association between sIgA level in saliva and pulmonary infection of P. aeruginosa. The ROC curve was plotted to determine the cut-off value of sIgA (sIgA≧13.09 U/ml) for efficient clinical diagnosis of pulmonary P. aeruginosa infection. The study has validated statistically that quantification of salivary sIgA can be used in clinical practice for early diagnosis of pulmonary infection of P. aeruginosa.

This study aims to determine the serum expression level of miRNA-122 and its significance in the different stages of Hepatitis B virus infection. The study subjects were recruited and grouped for Hepatitis B associated with Chronic Hepatitis B infection, hepatic sclerosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and healthy controls were also considered. Venous blood was collected from the participants including the controls and routine blood tests and quantification of miRNA-122 were done and analyzed in each case of hepatitis B infection and compared with that of healthy controls. The miRNA-122 was determined, which came to be highest in patients with Chronic Hepatitis B while patients with hepatic sclerosis and patients with hepatocellular carcinoma showed a subsequent number of copies. The number of copies of miRNA-122 in the CHB, hepatic sclerosis, and HCC group was significantly higher than in the healthy control. The quantification of miRNA-122 and subsequently plotting the ROC curve has shown that miRNA-122 can be considered as a biomarker of hepatitis B for screening and diagnosis purposes.

BACKGROUND: Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) can easily be obtained from a mini-lipoaspirate procedure of fat tissue and platelet rich plasma (PRP) can be obtained from peripheral blood. We evaluated the safety and preliminary efficacy of administering SVF and PRP intra-articularly into patients with osteoarthritis grade 1 and 2. METHODS: A total of ten patients underwent a local tumescent liposuction procedure to remove approximately 100 ml of fat tissue from the abdomen. SVF was isolated using an enzyme digestion and resuspended in PRP for intra-articular injection in the knee. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score and six-minute walk distance (6MWD) were used to evaluate clinical effects and included measure of patient's subjective assessment of pain, joint mobility, and physical disability. WOMAC score, 6MWD and laboratory tests were repeated at 3 and 6 months and 1, 1.5 and 2 years. XRAY and MRI were completed at 1 year. RESULTS: The average total WOMAC score was 64 at baseline and significantly reduced to 52 at 3 months, 46 at 6 months, 42 at 1 year, 38 at 1.5 years, and 41 at 2 years. Patients walked an average of 1310 feet at baseline and demonstrated a statistically significant improvement at 3 and 6 months and 1, 1.5, and 2 years post treatment. Cartilage thickness as determined by MRI improved by at least 0.2 mm in six patients, was unchanged in two patients and decreased by at least 0.2 mm in two patients. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, all of the patients were pleased with the treatment results. They reported a reduction in pain levels, especially after 3 months. More importantly, the procedure demonstrated a strong safety profile with no severe adverse events or complications reported. Photoinduced electron transfer (ET) reaction between an anionic acceptor, coumarin-343 (C343), and a neutral donor, N,N-dimethylaniline (DMAN), has been investigated in composite supramolecular assemblies (mixed micelles) comprised of a pluronic copolymer (P123: EO20-PO70-EO20 or F88: EO103-PO39-EO103 where EO: ethylene oxide and PO: propylene oxide) and a cationic surfactant (CTAC: cetyltrimethylammonium chloride), following fluorescence quenching studies. Systematic increase in the quenching rates for the studied donor-acceptor system with the increasing CTAC to pluronic molar ratio in the mixed micelles demonstrates a large modulation in the ET rates. The mixed micellar systems in the present cases are formed through the incorporation of the hydrocarbon chains of CTAC into the poly-PO core of the pluronic micelles whereby the cationic head groups of CTAC are placed at the periphery of the micellar core, protruded into the hydrated poly-EO corona region, leading to the formation of a positively charged layer deep inside these mixed micelles. Thus, the anionic C343 dye, initially dissolved at the micelle-water interface, experiences a gradually increasing electrostatic attraction and is therefore systematically dragged deeper inside the micellar corona, as the CTAC composition is increased in the mixed micellar systems. Consequently, the ET rate of the C343-DMAN pair undergoes a large enhancement in the studied mixed micellar systems with the increasing CTAC to pluronic molar ratio. The present strategy of modulating ET reactions using such composite supramolecular assemblies can find applications in areas where bimolecular ET is an integral reaction step.

Photoinduced electron transfer (PET) and charge transfer (CT) interactions of trivalent lanthanide ions (Ln(3+)) with a fluorogenic diphenylamine (DPA) donor in aqueous solution have been investigated. Present donor-acceptor systems have a relevance to the leaching out and mitigation of lanthanide ions in the geoenvironment where DPA finds its presence as industrial and agricultural waste. The formation of weak ground state CT complexes in the present systems is confirmed from ground state absorption studies. There is no emissive exciplex formation as evidenced from steady-state (SS) fluorescence measurements. SS fluorescence quenching results, however, indicate substantial static quenching, attributed to ground state complex formation. Time-resolved (TR) fluorescence quenching results show a quite efficient dynamic quenching process. It is established that the TR fluorescence quenching of DPA by lanthanide ions is not due to energy transfer but due to PET from excited DPA to Ln(3+). Direct evidence for the PET mechanism is obtained from laser flash photolysis measurements where a transient absorption band at around 670 nm for the DPA cation is clearly evident. The time constant for DPA cation growth confirms that PET occurs from the excited S1 state of DPA to lanthanide ions. No correlation is, however, observed for the estimated quenching constants with the free energy changes of the PET reactions, due to the participation of multiple PET channels involving vacant electronic states of lanthanide ions. As realized, lanthanide ions are complex electron acceptors in the PET reactions and many extensive follow up studies are expected to understand the details of the multichannel PET in these geologically important redox systems.

Photophysical studies have been carried out to explore the aggregation behavior of coumarin-153 (C153) dye in polar organic solvents of both aprotic and protic nature, namely acetonitrile (ACN) and ethanol (EtOH). No unusual behavior is observed in aprotic ACN solvent, suggesting only the monomers of the dye as the single emitting species in the solution. In protic EtOH solvent, however, the dye shows the presence of multiple emitting species in the solution. The concentration-, temperature- and wavelength-dependent changes in the fluorescence decays, and the time-resolved emission spectra (TRES) and area-normalized emission spectra (TRANES) suggest the coexistence of dye aggregates along with the dye monomers in the EtOH solution. Observed results indicate that the emission spectra of the aggregates are substantially blue-shifted compared to the spectra of the monomers, suggesting the H-aggregation of the dye in the present cases. Time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy, ultrafast fluorescence up-conversion measurements and scanning electron microscopy studies support the aggregation of the dye in EtOH solution. Strong dipole-dipole interaction is supposedly responsible for the aggregation of C153 dye (dipole moment ∼6.4 D) and the polar protic solvent EtOH apparently stabilizes the aggregates through solute-solvent hydrogen bonding interaction, which is not possible in aprotic ACN solvent. This is further supported by the time-resolved fluorescence results in a strongly hydrogen bond donating solvent, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol. Aggregation of C153 dye observed in the present study in polar protic organic solvent is an intriguing finding, as the dye is widely used as a fluorescent probe for various photochemical studies, where overlooking such aggregation will definitely mislead the observed results.

BACKGROUND: Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective, and easily available treatment modality, its role in cherry hemangioma is still unexplored. OBJECTIVE: This study aims at establishing the role and efficacy of sclerotherapy in treating cherry angiomas and its dermatological complications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study included 20 patients with 100 lesions of cherry hemangiomas of size >0.2 mm. Intralesional injection of 0.1 mL of 3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate was used. Scarring, if any, was evaluated using "The Stony Brook Scar Evaluation Scale." Patients were called for weekly sessions for a maximum of 4 weeks. RESULTS: Of 100 lesions treated, 42 lesions responded with a single dose of sclerosant, 44 lesions required a second setting. Remaining lesions were injected for 3 weeks, of which 14 lesions did not remit completely and required a fourth sitting. Depending on response to sclerotherapy, patients were divided into 2 groups (Group A and Group B). On comparing these groups, no statistically significant (χ test) difference in the rate of healing was observed. CONCLUSION: Sclerotherapy with sodium tetradecyl sulfate 3% is effective in the treatment of cherry hemangiomas. It offers an economical alternative to other available conventional methods.

The association between serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) and highly sensitive C - reactive protein (hsCRP) as predictors of the risk factors for Myocardial Infarction. The study included a total of 50 patients with Myocardial Infarction, aged between 25 to 74 years. The levels of hsCRP were measured using the immunoturbidimetry method, while Interleukin 6 was estimated using the sandwich ELISA method. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 21.0, with p values calculated using Quartile ratio, ANOVA unpaired t-test, and Kaplan-Meier Curve Method. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. All participants underwent a questionnaire, physical examination, medical history assessment, and laboratory tests. The results of the study showed that there was a significant correlation between IL-6 and hsCRP levels in the Quartile groups, as well as with lipid profiles. The Kaplan-Meier method also demonstrated a significant association between IL-6 and hsCRP levels in participants. The comparison of biomarkers further supported these findings. Thus, data shows that elevated levels of hsCRP and IL-6 could serve as valuable diagnostic markers for predicting Acute Myocardial Infarction. Our study strongly suggests that IL-6 could be a powerful marker in evaluating the Myocardial Infarction.

Coumarin-481 (C481) dye shows intriguing time-resolved (TR) fluorescence behavior in polar organic solvents of both protic and aprotic nature, namely, ethanol (EtOH) and acetonitrile (ACN), demonstrating the presence of multiple emitting species in the solution. Following concentration-dependent and wavelength-dependent TR fluorescence measurements and the time-resolved emission spectra (TRES) and time-resolved area-normalized emission spectra (TRANES) subsequently constructed using wavelength dependent decay parameters, we convincingly conclude that in the studied solvents a part of the dissolved dye undergoes H-type of aggregation, even at a very low dye concentration. This is quite an unusual finding because the dye C481 apparently shows reasonably good solubility in these organic solvents. As the TR measurements indicate, major contribution in the fluorescence decays is due to monomeric dye, having reasonably short lifetime (∼0.64-0.68 ns), which is in accordance with the conversion of fluorescent intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state to nonfluorescent twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state suggested for the dye in high polarity solvents, causing an efficient nonradiative deexcitation. The minor contributions arising from the aggregated dyes show its clear presence in the decays at the blue edge of the emission spectra and have relatively longer lifetimes (∼1.2-5.2 ns) because the steric hindrance caused by the stacked dyes resists the ICT to TICT conversion. Aggregation of C481 dye as observed in the present study in polar organic solvents is an intriguing finding, as the dye is a widely used fluorescent probe for various photochemical studies, where overlooking such aggregation can mislead the observed results.

Herein is reported a novel as well as simple, sensitive, and cost-effective method for determination of boron by time-resolved fluorescence spectrometry in uranium-based nuclear fuels. Boron is complexed with fluorescent ligand chromotropic acid, and the complex formed is a measure of boron. Since the steady-state fluorescence spectra of excess ligand and complex are overlapping, the developed method emphasizes the power of time resolution. The signatory fluorescence decay times of ligand and complex are employed to derive their decay-associated spectra (DAS) and, thereby, spectroscopically eliminate the high background of ligand fluorescence. The calibration plot has a wide linear dynamic range of 5-100 ppb with r2 better than 0.998. Precision is better than 5% at the 10 ppb level and 4% at the 50 ppb level (n = 9). The detection limit is 1.5 ppb, and recovery of spiked boron (25 ppb) from the uranium samples was better than 94%. The developed method was validated by analyzing U3O8-based ILCE Standards and applied to enriched uranium fuel samples. The main advantage of the developed method is a reduction in sample size requirement due to better sensitivity and selectivity. This in turn reduces the load of uranium recovery from analytical waste, especially in the case of enriched uranium samples. Additionally, it eliminates the need of organic solvents/medium.

OBJECTIVES: Long-term care of children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) has psycho-social implications for parents. Experts recommend a customized educational program for parents to facilitate their psychological adaptation and improve disease management. Such educational programs often provided by nurse counsellors are well evaluated in developed countries. There is a dearth of data on nurse-led counselling in the context of less developed countries. We aimed to evaluate the effect of a nurse-led counselling intervention on various psycho-social outcomes among parents of children with CAH. METHODS: Fifty consecutive parents of children with CAH attending an outpatient clinic at a tertiary-care teaching hospital were enrolled. Parents' stress level, stigma, knowledge, practices, and treatment adherence were assessed by using Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), DSD Stigma scale, and HILL-Bon Medication Adherence Scale (HB-MAS). Three educational counselling sessions were conducted within a month's gap, using PowerPoint presentations and a booklet. Assessment of outcomes was done at baseline and at the end of the third session. RESULTS: At baseline, the majority (90%) of the parents had moderate stress. Half of the parents had mild and the rest had moderate stigma. After the intervention, the majority (94%) of parents had shifted to mild levels of stress and stigma. At baseline, 86% of the parents had poor knowledge about the disease whereas post-intervention, 80% were having good knowledge. Disease management practices and treatment adherence also improved after the intervention. CONCLUSIONS: Nurse-led counselling was effective in reducing psycho-social problems, increasing knowledge, as well as improving practices and treatment adherence.

OBJECTIVES: Many thyroid disorders in children demand long-term therapy. The parent's understanding of the child's condition is of utmost importance for adherence to treatment. The study objective was to assess the knowledge, medication adherence, reasons for non-adherence, and their relationship with various clinical parameters. METHODS: An exploratory, cross-sectional study with a total enumeration sampling technique was conducted between July 2022 and September 2022. Children and young adults aged ≤18 years who were diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and taking medications for at least 3 months were included. Data were collected by interviewing parents using the Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS) and structured knowledge questionnaire. RESULTS: Parents of 102 children were interviewed. The mean age of the children was 9.2 ± 0.4 years; 58 (57 %) were girls. The mean duration of treatment was 5.5 ± 0.3 years. Many (66 %) informants were mothers. Three-fourths (75.5 %) of parents were educated up to senior secondary and above. Most (91.2 %) of parents had poor knowledge about the disease and its management. Poor disease knowledge was significantly linked to lower education (p<0.001). Nonetheless, strong adherence (>80 %) was noted on the ARMS scale. No significant correlation was found between physical growth, thyroid function, and adherence/knowledge (p-values 0.20-0.71). CONCLUSIONS: The caregivers' knowledge of thyroid disorders was poor and related to their educational level. There is a need to use clear language and ensure that parents have an adequate understanding of their child's condition. Healthcare professionals should assess and address gaps in parental knowledge and adherence.

BACKGROUND: MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate the function of mRNA post-transcriptionally in a tissue-specific manner. miRNA expressions are heavily dysregulated in human cancer cells through various mechanisms, including epigenetic changes, karyotype abnormalities, and miRNA biogenesis defects. miRNAs may act as either oncogenes or tumor suppressors under different conditions. Epicatechin is a natural compound found in green tea which possesses antioxidant and antitumor properties. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of epicatechin treatment on the expression level of several oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs in breast and colorectal cancer cell lines (MCF7 and HT-29) and identify its mechanism of action. METHODS: The MCF-7 and HT29 cells were treated with epicatechin for 24 hours and untreated cells were considered control cultures. miRNA was isolated and qRT-PCR was used to measure the expression profile changes of different oncogenic and tumor suppressor miRNAs. Furthermore, the mRNA expression profile was also screened at different concentrations of epicatechin. RESULTS: Our results showed several-fold changes in miRNAs expression level, which is cell line specific. Also, epicatechin at different concentrations induces biphasic changes in mRNA expression levels in both cell lines. CONCLUSION: Our findings first time demonstrated that epicatechin can reverse the expression of these miRNAs and may trigger the cytostatic effect at a lower concentration.

Photophysical properties of coumarin-481 (C481) dye in aqueous solution show intriguing presence of multiple emitting species. Concentration and wavelength dependent fluorescence decays and time-resolved emission spectra and area-normalized emission spectra suggest the coexistence of dye monomers, dimers, and higher aggregates (mostly trimers) in the solution. Because of the efficient intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) state to twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state conversion, the dye monomers show very short fluorescence lifetime of ~0.2 ns. Fluorescence lifetimes of dimers (~4.1 ns) and higher aggregates (~1.4 ns) are relatively longer due to steric constrain toward ICT to TICT conversion. Observed results indicate that the emission spectra of the aggregates are substantially blue-shifted compared to monomers, suggesting H-aggregation of the dye in the solution. Temperature-dependent fluorescence decays in water and time-resolved fluorescence results in water-acetonitrile solvent mixtures are also in support of the dye aggregation in the solution. Though dynamic light scattering studies could not recognize the dye aggregates in the solution due to their small size and low concentration, fluorescence up-conversion measurements show a relatively higher decay tail in water than in water-acetonitrile solvent mixture, in agreement with higher dye aggregation in aqueous solution. Time-resolved fluorescence results with structurally related non-TICT dyes, especially those of coumarin-153 dye, are also in accordance with the aggregation behavior of these dyes in aqueous solution. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the aggregation of coumarin dyes in aqueous solution. Present results are important because coumarin dyes are widely used as fluorescent probes in various microheterogeneous systems where water is always a solvent component, and the dye aggregation in these systems, if overlooked, can easily lead to a misinterpretation of the observed results.

This project aimed at developing nanovesicles of econazole nitrate (EN) and formulating them as a suitable dermatological gel for improved therapeutic efficacy, better dispersity, and good storage stability. Ethosomes were prepared by cold method and evaluated for the mean diameter, surface charge, and entrapment efficiency. Optimized ethosomes with vesicle size and entrapment efficiency of 202.85 ± 5.10 nm and 81.05 ± 0.13%, respectively, were formulated as Carbopol 934 NF gels with varied permeation enhancers (G1-G7), and compared with liposomal and hydroethanolic gels. The pharmacotechnical evaluation of gels demonstrated G6 with a flux rate of 0.46 ± 0.22 µg/cm(2) hr(1/2) as the best formulation that was able to exhibit controlled release of EN for 12 hours across rat skin, and percent drug diffused from ethosomes was nearly twofold higher than liposomal and hydroethanolic gels. Confocal laser scanning microscopy demonstrated drug permeation as far as the last layer of epidermis (stratum basale). Stability profile of the prepared system assessed for 180 days revealed very low aggregation and insignificant growth in vesicular size. The results collectively suggest that because of the controlled drug release, better antifungal activity, and good storage stability, EN ethosomal gel has tremendous potential to serve as a topical delivery system. BACKGROUND: The fetus grows in a sterile womb environment. After birth, the newborn immune system has two immediate hurdles to clear. First immediate suppression of the womb compatible immune system and turn on the immune system of the newborn that can counter the antigenic world. The underlying mechanism of immune fluctuation by milk microRNAs (miRNAs) can be crucial for the treatment of critical or premature newborn. METHODS: We collected fourteen samples of each colostrum and mature milk from lactating mothers, four samples of each were used for microarray analysis, and the other ten were used for miRNA expression profiling by real-time PCR. RESULTS: From the microarray, 154 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified, whereas 49 miRNAs were revealed as immune-related miRNAs based on a literature study. Among the 49 miRNAs, 33 were already shown as strongly validated immune-related miRNAs (validated by qPCR, Western Blot, and Luciferase assay) and were considered for further analysis. Twenty-two miRNA expressions were analysed by real-time PCR as their Ct values were within considerable limits. Twelve numbers of miRNAs were significantly downregulated in mature milk compared to colostrum, which were again subjected to bioinformatics analysis to predict the biological mechanisms behind the differentially expressed miRNAs. CONCLUSION: This study shed light on the human milk exosome miRNA expression dynamics during lactation and their possible role in the gradual skewing of the newborns' immune system. The information is crucial for the development and onset of sepsis in premature newborns in the NICU.

RESUMO

COVID-19 is the present-day pandemic around the globe. WHO has estimated that approx 15% of the world's population may have been infected with coronavirus with a large number of population on the verge of being infected. It is quite difficult to break the virus chain since asymptomatic patients can result in the spreading of the infection apart from the seriously infected patients. COVID-19 has many similar symptoms to SARS-D however, the symptoms can worsen depending on the immunity power of the patients. It is necessary to be able to find the infected patients even with no symptoms to be able to break the spread of the chain. In this paper, the comparison table describes the accuracy of deep learning architectures by the implementation of different optimizers with different learning rates. In order to remove the overfitting issue, different learning rate has been experimented. Further in this paper, we have proposed the classification of the COVID-19 images using the ensemble of 2 layered Convolutional Neural Network with the Transfer learning method which consumed lesser time for classification and attained an accuracy of nearly 90.45%.

Since December 2019, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been a global health concern. The transmission method is human-to-human. Since this second wave of SARS-CoV-2 is more aggressive than the first wave, rapid testing is warranted to use practical diagnostics to break the transfer chain. Currently, various techniques are used to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infection, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. A full review of online databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Google Scholar was analyzed to identify relevant articles focusing on SARS-CoV-2 and diagnosis and therapeutics. The most recent article search was on May 10, 2021. We summarize promising methods for detecting the novel Coronavirus using sensor-based diagnostic technologies that are sensitive, cost-effective, and simple to use at the point of care. This includes loop-mediated isothermal amplification and several laboratory protocols for confirming suspected 2019-nCoV cases, as well as studies with non-commercial laboratory protocols based on real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and a field-effect transistor-based bio-sensing device. We discuss a potential discovery that could lead to the mass and targeted SARS-CoV-2 detection needed to manage the COVID-19 pandemic through infection succession and timely therapy.
