A review of the genus Pulcheria Alphéraky, 1887 with description of a new species from southeastern Kazakhstan (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).

A small Central Asian genus Pulcheria Alphéraky, 1887 is revised. One new species, P. kasymkhani Volynkin & Matov, sp. n. is described from southeastern Kazakhstan (Almaty region). The lectotype for P. catomelas Alphéraky, 1887 and the neotype for P. cinescens Draudt, 1938 are designated. The adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated.

A new species of Anarta Ochsenheimer, 1816 from Mongolian and Russian Altai (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).

Anarta Ochsenheimer, 1816 is a hadenine genus restricted to Palaearctic and Nearctic Regions. The genus includes about 80 described species and subdivided into seven subgenera (Hacker 1998; Fibiger et al. 2011): Trichoclea Grote, 1883 (= Hadula Staudinger, 1889), Cardiestra Boursin, 1963, Ptochicestra Hacker, 1998, Aglossestra Hampson, 1905, Calocestra Beck, 1991, Pulchrohadula Hacker, 1998 and Anarta Ochsenheimer, 1816 (= Discestra Hampson, 1905). The group has been revised by Hacker (1998). Anarta, Trichoclea, Hadula and Discestra were been synonymized by Fibiger & Hacker (2005).

A new species of Orthosia Ochsenheimer, 1816 from North-East Kazakhstan (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).

Orthosia Ochsenheimer, 1816 is a Holarctic-Oriental noctuid genus comprising more than 60 described species, with most distributed in the eastern and southeastern Palaearctic and Oriental regions. Many species have recently been described from Asia (Hreblay 1991, 1993, 1994; Yoshimoto 1993; Hreblay & Plante 1994; Hreblay & Ronkay 1998, 1999; Ronkay et al. 2010, Saldaitis et al. 2011, etc.). The O. incerta species-group includes 10 described species (see Ronkay et al. 2001), and during the course of faunistic studies on the Noctuidae of North-East Kazakhstan, a new member of this species-group was found; it is described herein as new. 

A new species of Euchalcia Hübner, [1821] from Kazakhstan (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae).

The Holarctic genus Euchalcia Hübner, [1821] belongs to the tribe Plusiini of the subfamily Plusiinae. The genus is one of the largest in the Plusiinae, comprising about 54 described species. The systematics of Eurasian and North African members of the genus was recently revised (Ronkay et al. 2008). In June 2013, in the course of faunistic studies on Noctuidae of the Tarbagatai Mts. (East Kazakhstan), a long series of an undescribed species of the genus was collected. Two additional specimens from the Dzhungarsky Alatau Mts. (South-East Kazakhstan) were found in the collection of the Siberian Zoological Museum (Novosibirsk). The species is described herein as new. It belongs to the E. inconspicua group within the E. inconspicua species-complex (Ronkay et al. 2008). The E. inconspicua group comprises two described species only: E. inconspicua (Graeser, 1892) and E. anthea L. Ronkay, G. Ronkay & Behounek, 2008. A revision of the genus Protarchanara Beck, 1999 with description of a new genus and three new species (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Xyleninae).

The genus Protarchanara Beck, 1999 is revised. The new genus Hydredes gen. n. (type species Hydredes yakobsoni sp. n.) is described. Three new species, Hydredes yakobsoni sp. n., H. shchetkini sp. n. and Protarchanara mythimnoida sp. n. are described from Central Asia. Two species, Arenostola delattini Wiltshire, 1953 and Hydraecia praecipua Hacker & Nekrasov, 2001 are transferred to the genus Hydredes gen. n. Protarchanara brevilinea impudica (Staudinger, 1892) stat. n. is upgraded to subspecific level. Lectotypes for Namangana contumax Püngeler, 1902, Sidemia (Luperina) johni Püngeler, 1914 and Nonagria impudica Staudinger, 1892 are designated. The adults and male and female genitalia are illustrated.

A review of the Palaearctic Mniotype adusta (Esper, 1790) species-group with description of a new species and six new subspecies (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

Eighteen Palaearctic taxa of the Mniotype adusta species-group are reviewed. One new species (M. kobyakovi Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, sp. n.) and six new subspecies (M. lama kortka Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, ssp. n., M. lama etugen Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, ssp. n., M. lama ayubaevorum Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, ssp. n., M. adusta poltavskyi Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, ssp. n., M. adjuncta cineritia Volynkin, Matov & Behounek, ssp. n. and M. dubiosa amitayus Volynkin & Han, ssp. n.) are described. Two taxa, previously regarded as subspecies are restored to specific status: M. adjuncta (Moore, 1881) stat. n. and M. dubiosa (A. Bang-Haas, 1912) stat. n. A taxon previously regarded as a junior synonym is restored to specific status: M. juldussica (Draudt, 1934) stat. n. A new synonymy is introduced: M. bathensis (Lutzau, 1900) = Hadena adusta var. moesta Staudinger, 1897 syn. n. The synonymy of M. bathensis and Crino adusta subsp. urupino Bryk, 1942 syn. rev. is revised. The lectotypes for Hadena? lama Staudinger, 1900, Mamestra vicina Alphéraky, 1882, Hadena adusta var. moesta Staudinger, 1897 and Hadena lama var. dubiosa A. Bang-Haas, 1912 are designated. The neotype for Crino adusta juldussica Draudt, 1934 is designated. The adults, male and female genitalia of all reviewed species and subspecies are illustrated.

Review of the bicolora Fang and binghami Hampson species-groups of the genus Ovipennis Hampson with descriptions of five new species from Southwestern China and Indochina (Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Arctiinae, Lithosiini).

The Ovipennis bicolora Fang, 1986 and Ovipennis binghami Hampson, 1903 species-groups are reviewed. The identities of the records of O.binghami reported outside of its type locality are clarified. Ovipennis bicolora is rediscovered with the male and female genitalia illustrated for the first time. The male and female genitalia of O.thomasi ern, 2009 are illustrated for the first time and its specific status is confirmed. Five new species are described: O.hanae S.-Y. Huang, Volynkin & ern, sp. n. (Southwestern China), O.regina Volynkin, ern, S.-Y. Huang & Saldaitis, sp. n. (Northern Thailand and Southwestern China), O.takia Volynkin, S.-Y. Huang & ern, sp. n. (Western and Central Thailand), O.kitchingi Volynkin, S.-Y. Huang & ern, sp. n. (Northern Thailand), and O.sapa Volynkin, S.-Y. Huang, ern & Saldaitis, sp. n. (Northern Vietnam). Adults and genitalia of the new species are illustrated and compared with its congeners.

On the taxonomy of the genus Teulisna Walker from India with a description of a new species (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini).

The taxonomy of two Indian species of the genus Teulisna Walker, 1862, T. basigera (Walker, [1865]) and T. inducta (Walker, [1865]), is revised. One species is reinstated from the synonymy with T. basigera: Teulisna ruma (Swinhoe, [1890] 1889), stat. rev. A new species, Teulisna munnara sp. n. is described from the state of Kerala (South India). Lectotypes are designated for Cossa basigera Walker, [1865] 1864, Lithosia inducta Walker, [1865] 1864, and Cossa ruma Swinhoe, [1890] 1889. Adults as well as male and female genitalia of all the species considered are illustrated.

On the taxonomy of Tigrioides leucanioides (Walker) with descriptions of two new genera and ten new species from the Oriental realm (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini).

The generic placement and the taxonomic structure of the complex traditionally identified in the collections as Tigrioides leucanioides (Walker, 1862) are revised. Two new genera and ten new species are described: Leucanithosia gen. n., Leucanithosia diehli sp. n. (Indonesia: northern Sumatra Island), Leucanithosia paraliaka sp. n. (Indonesia: northern Sumatra Island), Leucanithosia nansabon sp. n. (northern Myanmar), Leucanithosia witti sp. n. (Thailand, Laos, Southwest China (Yunnan) and Northeast India), Leucanithosia leptivalva sp. n. (the Philippines: Palawan Island), Leucanithosia inusitata sp. n. (Indonesia: northern Sumatra Island), Leucanithosia lampunga sp. n. (Indonesia: southern Sumatra Island), Philippinithosia gen. n., Philippinithosia lourensi sp. n. (the Philippines: Luzon, Negros and Mindoro Islands), Philippinithosia settelei sp. n. (the Philippines: Mindanao Island), and Philippinithosia reducta sp. n. (the Philippines: Mindanao, Leyte and Samar Islands). A new combination is established: Leucanithosia leucanioides (Walker, 1862), comb. n. The lectotype is designated for Lithosia leucanioides Walker, 1862. Adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated.

A new species of Karschiola Gaede from Mozambique and Zimbabwe (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae) with updated information on the distribution of the genus.

The present paper provides the description of a new species of the genus Karschiola Gaede, 1926 from central Mozambique and Zimbabwe: K. ndzou sp. n. The pairwise genetic distance between the two Karschiola species is calculated and a neighbour-joining tree based on DNA barcodes of two K. holoclera and five K. ndzou sp. n. specimens is provided. The paper is illustrated with eight colour photos of adults and 18 genitalia images, a distribution map and two habitat photos.

Taxonomic review of the genus Tarika Moore with descriptions of six new species from Nepal, China and Indochina (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae).

The Asiatic footman moth genus Tarika Moore, 1878, which used to be considered as monotypic is reviewed. Six new species are described: T. annapurna sp. n. (Сentral Nepal), T. erlanga sp. n. (China: Sichuan), T. reducta sp. n. (North Thailand), T. danieli sp. n. (China: Yunnan, Sichuan, Fujian, Shandong), T. kinha sp. n. (North Vietnam and China: Yunnan), and T. biserratula sp. n. (China: Hunan). Lectotypes are designated for Lithosia varana Moore, 1865 and Tarika nivea Moore, 1878. Adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated.

Taxonomic review of the Cyana adelina (Staudinger) species-group (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae) with descriptions of three new species and one new subspecies from Laos, Thailand and China.

The Cyana adelina (Staudinger, 1887) species-group is established and reviewed. Three new species and one new subspecies are described: Cyana yunnanensis regia ssp. n. (Northern Thailand and northern Laos), Cyana dubernardi sp. n. (China: Yunnan), Cyana khami sp. n. (central Laos), and Cyana karsticola sp. n. (northern Laos). Two new synonyms are established: Cyana yunnanensis yunnanensis (Hampson, 1903) (Chionaema) = Chionaema hoenei Daniel, 1952, syn. n., and Cyana griseilinea de Joannis, 1930 = Cyana succincta ern, 2016, syn. n. Lectotypes are designated for Bizone adelina Staudinger, 1887 and Bizone pratti Elwes, 1890. Adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated.

Integrative taxonomic revision of the Metarctia Walker, 1855 subgenus HebenaWalker, 1856, with descriptions of six new species and one new subspecies(Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Syntomini).

A revision of the subgenus Hebena Walker, 1856 of the syntomine genus Metarctia Walker, 1855 is given based on integrative taxonomic analyses. Six new species (Metarctia (Hebena) manfredi sp. n., M. (H.) elleni sp. n., M. (H.) brigitta sp. n., M. (H). lukaszi sp. n., M. (H.) smithi sp. n., and M. (H.) haraldsulaki sp.n.) and one new subspecies (M. (H.) smithi transvallesiana ssp. n.) are described. Metarctia (H.) kelleni (Snellen, 1886) stat. rev. is reinstated from synonymy with M. (H.) rubra (Walker, 1856) and Metarctia (H.) subincarnata Kiriakoff, 1954 syn. n. is synonymised with M. (H.) henrardi Kiriakoff, 1953 and Metarctia cinnamomea (Wallengren, 1860) syn. n. with M. (H.) rubra (Walker, 1856). DNA barcodes were obtained for 116 specimens representing 7 taxa, and genetic analyses were performed using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference approaches; a DNA barcode tree resulting from the latter is illustrated. Pairwise distances of barcodes between taxa are provided where available. The adults and genitalia of all taxa, their habitats and distribution are illustrated in 19 colour plates and 5 distribution maps.

Taxonomic review of the Oriental genus Gandhara Moore with descriptions of four new species (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini).

The genus Gandhara Moore, 1878 is reviewed. Four new species are described: Gandhara typica Volynkin & ern, sp. n. (Nepal, northeast India, northern Myanmar and northern Thailand), Gandhara clava Volynkin & ern, sp. n. (Laos and northern Thailand), Gandhara emgai Volynkin & ern, sp. n. (northern Vietnam), and Gandhara interrogativa Volynkin, ern, S.-Y. Huang & H.-L. Hu, sp. n. (northern Vietnam and southern China). Gandhara typica sp. n. is fixed as the type species of the genus Gandhara whereas Lithosia serva Walker, 1854 considered by authors as the type species of Gandhara by misidentification is transferred to the genus Collita Moore, 1878. Two new combinations are introduced: Gandhara conica (Fang, 2000), comb. n. and Collita serva (Walker, 1854), comb. n. A lectotype is designated for Lithosia serva Walker, 1854 in order to stabilise the nomenclature. Adults as well as male and female genitalia are illustrated.

On the identity of Conisania leuconephra Draudt, 1950 with a description of a new species from Xizang, China (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Noctuinae).

The identity of Conisania leuconephra (Draudt, 1950) from Yunnan (China) is revised. A new species Conisania sejilaensis sp. nov. is described from Xizang (China). The adults as well as the male and the female genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated.

Contribution to the knowledge of the genus Nephelomilta Hampson, 1900(Lepidoptera, Erebidae, Arctiinae) from China with descriptions of two new species.

New information on the genus Nephelomilta Hampson, 1900 from China is reported. Two new species are described from southwestern China: N. medogensis Huang, Volynkin & Saldaitis, sp. n. from Motuo County, Xizang Autonomous Region and N. nu Huang, Volynkin & Saldaitis, sp. n. from Nujiang Valley, Yunnan Province. The female of N. yasunorikishidai Huang & Wang, 2019 is discovered and illustrated for the first time, and the species is erected into a separate species-group. Adults and genitalia of the aforementioned taxa and related ones as well are illustrated.

Letrasilta, a new genus for the Striatella cernyi Volynkin species-group with description of a new species from Xizang, China, and a replacement name for the genus group name Striatella Volynkin & S.-Y. Huang, 2019 (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini).

The name Striatochrista nom. n. is introduced as replacement for Striatella Volynkin & S.-Y. Huang, 2019. A new genus, Letrasilta S.-Y. Huang & Volynkin gen. n. is erected to include the Striatella cernyi species-group with the new species, L. ratnasambhava S.-Y. Huang, Volynkin & Yin sp. n. from Xizang, southwestern China designated as the type species. Based on the molecular phylogenetic analysis, the new genus is found to be sister to the clade (Aberrasine + ((Indiania + Idopterum) + Striatochrista nom. n.)) but is distinguished from all the relevant genera by the unique genitalia features. Letrasilta cernyi (Volynkin, 2018) comb. n. is also reported from India for the first time. Adults and genitalia of the aforementioned taxa are illustrated. A checklist of the genus Striatochrista is also provided.

On the taxonomy of the genus Isochlora Staudinger with descriptions of two new species from Mongolia and Qinghai, China (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Noctuinae).

Two new species of the genus Isochlora Staudinger, 1882 are described: I. hreblayi Volynkin, Tth, Titov & Saldaitis, sp. n. (western Mongolia) and I. kozlovi Volynkin, Titov, Matov & Saldaitis, sp. n. (Qinghai Province, China). The type species of the genus-group names Chamyla Staudinger, 1900 and Grumia Alphraky, 1892 (I. arctomys Alphraky, 1897 and I. flora (Alphraky, 1892), respectively) are examined, and their synonymy with Isochlora is revised. The synonymy of Chamyla idia Staudinger, 1900 with Isochlora arctomys Alphraky, 1897 is revised as junior synonymies. Lectotypes are designated for Isochlora arctomys Alphraky, 1897, Chamyla idia Staudinger, 1900 and Grumia flora Alphraky, 1892. Isochlora intricans (Alphraky, 1882) is reported from Kazakhstan for the first time. Adults as well as male and female genitalia are illustrated.

Taxonomic review of the Afrotropical genus Birketsmithiola Krüger with descriptions of five new species (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae).

The footman moth genus Birketsmithiola Krüger, 2015 is reviewed and five new species are described: B. kruegeri sp. n. (eastern D.R. Congo), B. kingstoni sp. n. (Malawi), B. smithi sp. n. (Zambia and Malawi), B. nakuru sp. n. (Kenya), and B. bvumba sp. n. (Zimbabwe). Eilema sanguicosta var. nyassana Strand, 1912 previously considered as an unavailable name is restored and upgraded to species level: B. nyassana (Strand, 1912), stat. rev. Lectotypes for Ilema sanguicosta Hampson, 1901 and Eilema sanguicosta var. nyassana Strand, 1912 are designated. Adults together with male and female genitalia of all Birketsmithiola species are illustrated.

Taxonomic review of the Afrotropical genus Gracililema Krger with descriptions of three new species (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini).

The footman moth genus Gracililema Krger, 2015 is reviewed and three new species are described: Gracililema bettoni sp. n. (Kenya and Ethiopia), G. lydiae sp. n. (northern Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia) and G. smithi sp. n. (southern Mozambique and eastern South Africa). Adults, except the unknown male of G. proleucodes (Kiriakoff, 1958), together with male and female genitalia of all Gracililema species are illustrated.
