[Glomus tumor in the quadriceps ligament: a case report]. / Tumeur glomique du tendon quadricipital: à propos d'un cas.

We report a very rare localization of glomus tumor: the quadriceps ligament. The clinical diagnosis in this 19-year-old male patient was difficult. The final diagnosis was established at pathology examination of the surgical resection specimen. Resection provided cure. A review of the literature confirms that the quadriceps is a very rare localization of glomus tumor, no other cases have been reported previously.

[Transverse and T fractures with fracture of the posterior wall of the acetabulum. Results of orthopedic and surgical treatment. Fifty two cases of transverse and T fractures associated with a posterior wall fracture of the acetabulum were followed after conservative and surgical treatment. The mean follow-up was 3.5 years. There was marked displacement in 71% of cases, and a transverse fracture of the acetabular roof in 48% of case. There was no joint congruence in 50% of cases. The conservative and surgical results are the same without anatomical reduction, but the functional result seems better after surgical treatment with perfect reduction. However conservative management is necessary when anatomical reduction is impossible.

[Pathological fracture of the femur in a patient with a venous malformation]. / Fracture pathologique du fémur sur malformation veineuse. A propos d'un cas.

We observed a pathological fracture of the femur in a 21-year-old woman with a venous malformation. Physical examination and plain x-rays disclosed a pathological bone. Biopsy revealed the venous malformation. The extent of the lesion that involved the entire quadriceps muscle was detailed with duplex-Doppler, computed tomography and arteriography. The patient was treated with an intramedullary nail. Intra-operative bleeding necessitated transfusion (packed cells and frozen plasma). Outcome was favorable. Bone healing was achieved at seven months.

[Echinococcosis of the pelvic bone: four cases]. / Echinococcose osseuse du bassin: a propos de 4 cas.

We report four cases of echinococcosis of the pelvic bone in 3 women and a man aged 30 to 55 years. Disease spread was wide, involving the entire hemipelvis in one case and the sacrum in another making surgical excision difficult. In two cases, computed tomography was highly contributive to diagnosis and assessment of local extension. We used surgical excision and hydrogen peroxide sterilization for the first two case. For the two last cases, we used albendazole in four 4-week cures at a 2-week interval before and after surgery. The clinical course was favorable to these two cases at 3 and 4 years. The albendazole-surgery combination appears to be the best therapeutic option.

[Divergent dislocation of the elbow in an adolescent. A case report]. / Luxation divergente du coude chez l'adolescent. A propos d'un cas.

A case of simultaneous proximal radio ulnar joint divergent dislocation combined with a bone avulsion of the coronoid apophysis of the same elbow in a 16 years-old girl is presented. After a closed reduction and two weeks of plaster immobilization, normal function of the elbow was recovered within three months. There are only ten cases reported of such a divergent elbow dislocation in modern literature.

[Not Available]. / Aspect Epidemiologique des Sequelles de Brulures a Marrakech, Maroc, a Travers Deux Observations.

La brûlure est un accident qui reste toujours très fréquent au Maroc, ce qui fait d'elle un problème de la santé publique. Les brûlures, quand elles sont graves ou profondes, entraînent de façon quasi inéluctable des séquelles fonctionnelles et esthétiques. A travers deux observations de deux enfants présentant des séquelles de brûlures graves, ayant retenti péjorativement sur leurs scolarités, on a essayé de mettre en évidence quelques facteurs incriminés dans cette tragédie (feu, petites bouteilles de gaz et le manque d'infrastructure, du personnel médical et paramédical, du matériel ainsi que de la prévention) comme étant une grande cause dans la survenue de ces séquelles. Le but de notre travail est d'énumérer ces différents facteurs intriqués, ainsi que de proposer quelques solutions, tout en insistant sur la prévention.

L-serine dehydratase and L-serine-pyruvate aminotransferase activities in different animal species.

1. A rough inverse correlation between liver serine dehydratase activity and species body size was observed with mammals. This was not found for glutamate, malate or lactate dehydrogenase, fumarase or aspartate-2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase. Serine dehydratase (and certain liver aminotransferases showing a similar species-size dependence) may have a role in the stimulation of heat production. 2. Cold-exposed rats showed a 3-4 fold increase in serine dehydratase activity. 3. No liver serine dehydratase was measurable in amphibia. 4. In mammals high liver serine-pyruvate aminotransferase is associated with a flesh-eating dietary habit. High activity was found in amphibia and goldfish. A gluconeogenic role is suggested.
