KEY MESSAGE: The rust resistance genes Lr53 and Yr35 were introgressed into bread wheat from Aegilops longissima or Aegilops sharonensis or their S-genome containing species and mapped to the telomeric region of chromosome arm 6BS. Wheat leaf and stripe rusts are damaging fungal diseases of wheat worldwide. Breeding for resistance is a sustainable approach to control these two foliar diseases. In this study, we used SNP analysis, sequence comparisons, and cytogenetic assays to determine that the chromosomal segment carrying Lr53 and Yr35 was originated from Ae.longissima or Ae. sharonensis or their derived species. In seedling tests, Lr53 conferred strong resistance against all five Chinese Pt races tested, and Yr35 showed effectiveness against Pst race CYR34 but susceptibility to race CYR32. Using a large population (3892 recombinant gametes) derived from plants homozygous for the ph1b mutation obtained from the cross 98M71 × CSph1b, both Lr53 and Yr35 were successfully mapped to a 6.03-Mb telomeric region of chromosome arm 6BS in the Chinese Spring reference genome v1.1. Co-segregation between Lr53 and Yr35 was observed within this large mapping population. Within the candidate region, several nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat genes and protein kinases were identified as candidate genes. Marker pku6B3127 was completely linked to both genes and accurately predicted the absence or presence of alien segment harboring Lr53 and Yr35 in 87 tetraploid and 149 hexaploid wheat genotypes tested. We developed a line with a smaller alien segment (< 6.03 Mb) to reduce any potential linkage drag and demonstrated that it conferred resistance levels similar to those of the original donor parent 98M71. The newly developed introgression line and closely linked PCR markers will accelerate the deployment of Lr53 and Yr35 in wheat breeding programs.

Advanced Organic Chemical Materials Co-constructed Mechanically bonded amphiphiles (MBAs), also known as mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs), have emerged as an important kind of functional building block for the construction of artificial molecular machines and soft materials. Herein, a novel MBA, i. e., bistable [2]rotaxane H2 was designed and synthesized. In the solution state, H2 demonstrated pH and metal ion-responsive emissions due to the presence of a distance-dependent photoinduced electron transfer (PET) process and the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) process, respectively. Importantly, the amphiphilic feature of H2 has endowed it with unique self-assembly capability, and nanospheres were obtained in a mixed H2 O/CH3 CN solvent. Moreover, the morphology of H2 aggregates can be tuned from nanospheres to vesicles due to the pH-controlled shuttling motion-induced alternation of H2 amphiphilicity. Interestingly, larger spheres with novel pearl-chain-like structures from H2 were observed after adding stoichiometric Zn2+ . In particular, H2 shows pH-responsive emissions in its aggregation state, allowing the visualization of the shuttling movement by just naked eyes. It is assumed that the well-designed [2]rotaxane, and particularly the proposed concept of MBA shown here, will further enrich the families of MIMs, offering prospects for synthesizing more MIMs with novel assembly capabilities and bottom-up building dynamic smart materials with unprecedented functions.

KEY MESSAGE: The diploid wheat recessive stem rust resistance gene SrTm4 was fine-mapped to a 754-kb region on chromosome arm 2AmL and potential candidate genes were identified. Race Ug99 of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt), the causal agent of wheat stem (or black) rust is one of the most serious threats to global wheat production. The identification, mapping, and deployment of effective stem rust resistance (Sr) genes are critical to reduce this threat. In this study, we generated SrTm4 monogenic lines and found that this gene confers resistance to North American and Chinese Pgt races. Using a large mapping population (9522 gametes), we mapped SrTm4 within a 0.06 cM interval flanked by marker loci CS4211 and 130K1519, which corresponds to a 1.0-Mb region in the Chinese Spring reference genome v2.1. A physical map of the SrTm4 region was constructed with 11 overlapping BACs from the resistant Triticum monococcum PI 306540. Comparison of the 754-kb physical map with the genomic sequence of Chinese Spring and a discontinuous BAC sequence of DV92 revealed a 593-kb chromosomal inversion in PI 306540. Within the candidate region, we identified an L-type lectin-domain containing receptor kinase (LLK1), which was disrupted by the proximal inversion breakpoint, as a potential candidate gene. Two diagnostic dominant markers were developed to detect the inversion breakpoints. In a survey of T. monococcum accessions, we identified 10 domesticated T. monococcum subsp. monococcum genotypes, mainly from the Balkans, carrying the inversion and showing similar mesothetic resistant infection types against Pgt races. The high-density map and tightly linked molecular markers developed in this study are useful tools to accelerate the deployment of SrTm4-mediated resistance in wheat breeding programs.

In plants, the mechanism for ecological sympatric speciation (SS) is little known. Here, after ruling out the possibility of secondary contact, we show that wild emmer wheat, at the microclimatically divergent microsite of "Evolution Canyon" (EC), Mt. Carmel, Israel, underwent triple SS. Initially, it split following a bottleneck of an ancestral population, and further diversified to three isolated populations driven by disruptive ecological selection. Remarkably, two postzygotically isolated populations (SFS1 and SFS2) sympatrically branched within an area less than 30 m at the tropical hot and dry savannoid south-facing slope (SFS). A series of homozygous chromosomal rearrangements in the SFS1 population caused hybrid sterility with the SFS2 population. We demonstrate that these two populations developed divergent adaptive mechanisms against severe abiotic stresses on the tropical SFS. The SFS2 population evolved very early flowering, while the SFS1 population alternatively evolved a direct tolerance to irradiance by improved ROS scavenging activity that potentially accounts for its evolutionary fate with unstable chromosome status. Moreover, a third prezygotically isolated sympatric population adapted on the abutting temperate, humid, cool, and forested north-facing slope (NFS), separated by 250 m from the SFS wild emmer wheat populations. The NFS population evolved multiple resistant loci to fungal diseases, including powdery mildew and stripe rust. Our study illustrates how plants sympatrically adapt and speciate under disruptive ecological selection of abiotic and biotic stresses.

OBJECTIVES: To examine whether sex-specific associations between baseline PA level and follow up cognitive performance in Chinese subjects exist from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal study (CHARLS). METHOD: A total of 3395 adults aged 45 or old from the CHARLS were used for analysis. The combined scores of measurements of mental status and verbal episodic memory were utilized for assessing cognitive function at baseline in 2011 and the follow-up survey in 2015. Baseline PA level was quantified as the total PA score. Multiple linear regression and logistic regression models were used to examine the association between baseline PA status and global cognitive function and cognitive domains. RESULTS: In the female subjects (n = 1748), compared with individuals of PA level in the lower tertile, those grouped into the upper tertile had the lowest risk of global cognitive decline [odds ratio (OR) =0.273, 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.077-0.960; p = 0.043] and verbal episodic memory decline [OR)=0.257, 95% CI =0.066-1.003; p = 0.051] from 2011 to 2015. However, no significant associations were observed in the male subjects (n = 1647). CONCLUSION: In the female subjects, higher PA level was associated with reduced risk of cognitive decline within 4 years, this might be associated with reduced decline of verbal episodic memory. Our findings confirmed that female sex would positively affect the association between PA levels and cognitive decline.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) play an important role in tumor immune escape. Recent studies have shown that MDSCs contribute to tumor progression under psychological stress, but the underlying mechanism of MDSCs mobilization and recruitment remains largely unknown. In the present study, a chronic restraint stress paradigm was applied to the H22 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) bearing mice to mimic the psychological stress. We observed that chronic restraint stress significantly promoted HCC growth, as well as the mobilization of MDSCs to spleen and tumor sites from bone marrow. Meanwhile, chronic restraint stress enhanced the expression of C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2) and pErk1/2 in bone marrow MDSCs, together with elevated chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 5 (CXCL5) expression in tumor tissues. In vitro, the treatments of MDSCs with epinephrine (EPI) and norepinephrine (NE) but not corticosterone (CORT)-treated H22 conditioned medium obviously inhibited T-cell proliferation, as well as enhanced CXCR2 expression and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) phosphorylation. In vivo, ß-adrenergic blockade with propranolol almost completely reversed the accelerated tumor growth induced by chronic restraint stress and inactivated CXCL5-CXCR2-Erk signaling pathway. Our findings support the crucial role of ß-adrenergic signaling cascade in the mobilization and recruitment of MDSCs under chronic restraint stress.

Plant epidermis serves important functions in shoot growth, plant defense and lipid metabolism, though mechanisms of related transcriptional regulation are largely unknown. Here, we identified cis-elements specific to shoot epidermis expression by dissecting the promoter of Triticum aestivum lipid transfer protein 1 (TaLTP1). A preliminary promoter deletion analysis revealed that a truncated fragment within 400 bp upstream from the translation start site was sufficient to confer conserved epidermis-specific expression in transgenic Brachypodium distachyon and Arabidopsis thaliana. Further, deletion or mutation of a GC(N4)GGCC motif at position -380 bp caused a loss of expression in pavement cells. With an electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and transgenic reporter assay, we found that a light-responsive CcATC motif at position -268 bp was also involved in regulating pavement cell-specific expression that is evolutionary conserved. Moreover, expression specific to leaf trichome cells was found to be independently regulated by a CCaacAt motif at position -303 bp.

BACKGROUND: Since early 2015, mule duck and Cherry Valley duck flocks have been suffering from short beak and dwarfism syndrome. This widely spreading infectious disease is characterized by growth retardation, smaller beak and tarsus with high morbidity and low mortality rate. For better understanding, we identified and characterized virus isolates named AH and GD from diseased Cherry Valley duck and mule duck flocks and investigated the damage caused by novel parvovirus-related virus (NGPV) to tissues and organs, including kidney, brain, pancreas, liver, spleen, bursa of fabricius and myocardial tissues. RESULTS: AH and GD isolates shared high nucleotide identity with goose parvovirus (GPV). Alignment studies of AH and GD isolates showed 94.5-99.2% identity with novel parvovirus-related virus (NGPV), 98.7-91.5% identity with GPV and 79.9-83.7% with muscovy duck parvovirus (MDPV). Compared with other NGPV, classical GPV and MDPV sequences, a four 14-nucleotide-pair insertion in GD isolate was found in left open reading frame (ORF) (87-100 nt and 350-363 nt) and in right ORF (4847-4861 nt and 5122-5135 nt). However, in AH isolate, a five 14-nucleotide-pair deletions similar to other NGPV were found. The complete genome sequence comparison of eleven NGPV isolates from mule ducks and cherry valley ducks revealed no remarkable difference between them. Notably, the myocardium and bursa of fabricius of both disease and healthy animals are perfectly normal while other tissues have inflammatory cells exudation. CONCLUSIONS: The AH and GD strains are novel parvovirus-related virus that isolates from mule ducks or cherry valley ducks which DNA sequence has no remarkable difference. The histopathology of tissues and organs such as kidney, brain etc. revealed non-significant changes in experimental and control animals. Overall, this study has contributed better understanding of molecular biology of NGPV strains and will help to develop the candidate strain for vaccine preparation to get better protection against these viral infections.

Image-based approaches to single-cell transcriptomics, in which RNA species are identified and counted in situ via imaging, have emerged as a powerful complement to single-cell methods based on RNA sequencing of dissociated cells. These image-based approaches naturally preserve the native spatial context of RNAs within a cell and the organization of cells within tissue, which are important for addressing many biological questions. However, the throughput of these image-based approaches is relatively low. Here we report advances that lead to a drastic increase in the measurement throughput of multiplexed error-robust fluorescence in situ hybridization (MERFISH), an image-based approach to single-cell transcriptomics. In MERFISH, RNAs are identified via a combinatorial labeling approach that encodes RNA species with error-robust barcodes followed by sequential rounds of single-molecule fluorescence in situ hybridization (smFISH) to read out these barcodes. Here we increase the throughput of MERFISH by two orders of magnitude through a combination of improvements, including using chemical cleavage instead of photobleaching to remove fluorescent signals between consecutive rounds of smFISH imaging, increasing the imaging field of view, and using multicolor imaging. With these improvements, we performed RNA profiling in more than 100,000 human cells, with as many as 40,000 cells measured in a single 18-h measurement. This throughput should substantially extend the range of biological questions that can be addressed by MERFISH.

Actin, spectrin, and associated molecules form a periodic, submembrane cytoskeleton in the axons of neurons. For a better understanding of this membrane-associated periodic skeleton (MPS), it is important to address how prevalent this structure is in different neuronal types, different subcellular compartments, and across different animal species. Here, we investigated the organization of spectrin in a variety of neuronal- and glial-cell types. We observed the presence of MPS in all of the tested neuronal types cultured from mouse central and peripheral nervous systems, including excitatory and inhibitory neurons from several brain regions, as well as sensory and motor neurons. Quantitative analyses show that MPS is preferentially formed in axons in all neuronal types tested here: Spectrin shows a long-range, periodic distribution throughout all axons but appears periodic only in a small fraction of dendrites, typically in the form of isolated patches in subregions of these dendrites. As in dendrites, we also observed patches of periodic spectrin structures in a small fraction of glial-cell processes in four types of glial cells cultured from rodent tissues. Interestingly, despite its strong presence in the axonal shaft, MPS is disrupted in most presynaptic boutons but is present in an appreciable fraction of dendritic spine necks, including some projecting from dendrites where such a periodic structure is not observed in the shaft. Finally, we found that spectrin is capable of adopting a similar periodic organization in neurons of a variety of animal species, including Caenorhabditis elegans, Drosophila, Gallus gallus, Mus musculus, and Homo sapiens.

The Hippo signaling pathway is an evolutionarily conserved regulator that plays important roles in organ size control, homeostasis, and tumorigenesis. As the key effector of the Hippo pathway, Yorkie (Yki) binds to transcription factor Scalloped (Sd) and promotes the expression of target genes, leading to cell proliferation and inhibition of apoptosis. Thus, it is of great significance to understand the regulatory mechanism for Yki protein turnover. Here, we provide evidence that the deubiquitinating enzyme ubiquitin-specific protease 10 (Usp10) binds Yki to counteract Yki ubiquitination and stabilize Yki protein in Drosophila S2 cells. The results in Drosophila wing discs indicate that silence of Usp10 decreases the transcription of target genes of the Hippo pathway by reducing Yki protein. In vivo functional analysis ulteriorly showed that Usp10 upregulates the Yki activity in Drosophila eyes. These findings uncover Usp10 as a novel Hippo pathway modulator and provide a new insight into the regulation of Yki protein stability and activity.

The C2H2 type zinc-finger transcription factor Nerfin-1 expresses dominantly in Drosophila nervous system and plays an important role in early axon guidance decisions and preventing neurons dedifferentiation. Recently, increasing reports indicated that INSM1 (homologue to nerfin-1 in mammals) is a useful marker for prognosis of neuroendocrine tumors. The dynamic expression of Nerfin-1 is regulated post-transcriptionally by multiple microRNAs; however, its post-translational regulation is still unclear. Here we showed that the protein turnover of Nerfin-1 is regulated by Slimb, the substrate adaptor of SCFSlimb ubiquitin ligase complex. Mechanistically, Slimb associates with Nerfin-1 and promotes it ubiquitination and degradation in Drosophila S2R+ cells. Furthermore, we determined that the C-terminal half of Nerfin-1 (Nerfin-1CT) is required for its binding to Slimb. Genetic epistasis assays showed that Slimb misexpression antagonizes, while knock-down enhances the activity of Nerfin-1CT in Drosophila eyes. Our data revealed a new link to understand the underlying mechanism for Nerfin-1 turnover in post-translational level, and provided useful insights in animal development and disease treatment by manipulating the activity of Slimb and Nerfin-1.

Niemann-Pick type C disease (NPC) is a rare human disease, with limited effective treatment options. Most cases of NPC disease are associated with inactivating mutations of the NPC1 gene. However, cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for the NPC1 pathogenesis remain poorly defined. This is partly due to the lack of a suitable animal model to monitor the disease progression. In this study, we used CRISPR to construct an NPC1-/- zebrafish model, which faithfully reproduced the cardinal pathological features of this disease. In contrast to the wild type (WT), the deletion of NPC1 alone caused significant hepatosplenomegaly, ataxia, Purkinje cell death, increased lipid storage, infertility and reduced body length and life span. Most of the NPC1-/- zebrafish died within the first month post fertilization, while the remaining specimens developed slower than the WT and died before reaching 8 months of age. Filipin-stained hepatocytes of the NPC1-/- zebrafish were clear, indicating abnormal accumulation of unesterified cholesterol. Lipid profiling showed a significant difference between NPC1-/- and WT zebrafish. An obvious accumulation of seven sphingolipids was detected in livers of NPC1-/- zebrafish. In summary, our results provide a valuable model system that could identify promising therapeutic targets and treatments for the NPC disease.

BACKGROUND: Microvascular changes play a decisive role in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and occur early in the course of the disease. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) represents one of the main clinical expressions of the vascular changes in SSc, and the abnormal changes, especially capillary density and capillary width, are detectable at nailfold videocapillaroscopy (NVC). AIMS: To investigate the differences in capillary nailfold changes in SSc patients with and without PAH and to estimate the early diagnostic value of NVC in SSc secondary PAH (SSc-PAH). METHODS: A comprehensive literature search of MEDLINE and PUBMED was performed to identify published studies without language restrictions. The methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated. The pooled specificity, sensitivity, positive likelihood rate, negative likelihood rate, diagnostic odds ratio, area under the curve and Q value were found using Meta-Disc version 1.4 software packages. Finally, seven studies were included in this meta-analysis. RESULTS: The meta-analysis demonstrated that the diagnostic odds ratio, area under the curve and Q value were 5.84 (95% confidence interval: 1.95-17.54), 0.79 and 0.72 respectively. It indicated that the microvascular changes detected at NVC were significant in SSc-PAH and especially showed significantly lower capillary density and higher capillary width. CONCLUSION: The NVC may be a valuable tool for the early diagnosis of SSc-PAH. It can detect the early microvascular changes associated with the risk of PAH and has a significant role in the early prediction of SSc-PAH.

BACKGROUND: The preharvest application of Ca-containing foliar fertilizers can reduce the incidence of bitter pit (BP) in apples and improve fruit quality by increasing the Ca content and decreasing both the N content and the N/Ca ratio in fruits. In this study, we aimed to investigate the control efficacy of Ca-containing fertilizers on the incidence of BP and their effects on the Ca and N contents in bagged 'Fuji' apples by spraying foliar fertilizer containing calcium chloride (CaCl2 ), calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3 )2 ] or calcium formate [Ca(HCOO)2 ] at an early stage, five days after full bloom (DAFB) and 40 DAFB, and at a late stage, 80 DAFB and 125 DAFB. RESULTS: The incidences of BP were reduced significantly by 43.2-73.0%, and the efficacy of spraying at an early stage was significantly higher than that of spraying at a late stage. The Ca content of bagged apple fruits increased whereas the N content and N/Ca ratio decreased after spraying Ca-containing foliar fertilizers; however, the Ca content, N content and N/Ca ratio of apple leaves were differentially influenced. CONCLUSION: Foliar fertilizer containing CaCl2, Ca(NO3 )2 or Ca(HCOO)2 can be used at an early stage to control BP in apple and improve the quality of bagged apple fruits. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

The cassava root meal (CRM) has been utilized as a cheap energy alternative to replace maize in poultry diets. Recently, the CRM in turn has an increasing demand for starch extraction industry, which renders large amounts of residues. This study evaluated the nutrient composition, amino acid profile, and feeding value of cassava starch extraction residue meal (CReM) for growing ducks. A total of 960, 11-day-old, ducklings were housed in 24 floor pens and allocated randomly into four dietary treatments: (i) 0CReM (control), (ii) 50 g CReM/kg, (iii) 100 g CReM/kg, and (iv) 150 g CReM/kg. The analyses (/kg) of CReM showed high gross energy (3306.88 kcal), ME (2109.54 kcal), and starch (514.0 g), with poor crude protein (20.9 g) and moderate crude fiber (140.0 g) and ash (60.0 g) contents. The total amino acid (AA) content amounted to 19.9 g/kg of CReM DM, in which the methionine, lysine, cystine, and isoleucine were present in low levels. The dietary inclusion of CReM up to 150 g/kg, between 11 and 42 days of age, had no significant effects (P > 0.05) on duck growth parameters, mortality, dressed weight, internal organs, or abdominal fat. Besides, the tested CReM levels did not show any significant effect on the blood proteins or liver enzymes. The results, therefore, revealed that the CReM contains a considerable amount of energy and could be incorporated successfully up to 150 g/kg in the diets of growing ducks.

The bacterium Haemophilus parasuis is the specific pathogenic cause of Glässer's disease in swine. Fifteen serotypes of H. parasuis have been reported. A method to serotype H. parasuis isolates accurately would help to prevent and control Glässer's disease outbreaks through appropriate vaccination and to understand the epidemiology in specific geographic areas. However, according to traditional serotyping, the rate of nontypeable (NT) strains is 10 to 40%, which gives low accuracy. In the present study, we developed a set of PCR assays that are able to identify all the currently known H. parasuis serotypes, with a detection limit of 5 CFU. This PCR method is particularly useful to distinguish serotype 5 from serotype 12. We then surveyed the serotype prevalence of H. parasuis isolates from southern China using both the traditional indirect hemagglutination (IHA) and current PCR methods. Of the 298 isolates tested, 228 (76.51%) and 281 (94.30%) were serotyped by the IHA and PCR tests, respectively, with a concordance rate of 80.87% (241/298). The most prevalent serotypes obtained by PCR were 4, 5, 12, 13, NT, and 2, and the most prevalent obtained by IHA were NT, 5, 4, 12, 13, and 2. In conclusion, the PCR assays developed in this study provide a rapid and specific method for the molecular serotyping of H. parasuis.

Herein, we report the self-assembly of a mono terpyridine-based building block modified with long alkyl chains, which gives rise to vesicular aggregates in aqueous media. The vesicles are responsive to transition metal ions, and form different kinds of aggregates after metal-ligand coordination. In particular, Ni(ii) shows a unique influence on morphological transitions, whereby vesicles aggregate and fuse upon the addition of Ni(ii) ions. Spectroscopic and morphological studies are highlighted in this work. Furthermore, the formed vesicles could behave as a matrix for encapsulating fluorescent dyes with similar molecular structure via co-assembly, enabling more accurate observation of vesicle aggregation via confocal laser scanning techniques.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the causes and strategy of difficult intraarterial mechanical thrombectomy (≥3 times) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS: The clinical data of 8 cases of AIS with thrombectomy ≥3 times admitted in Department of Neurology, the 306(th) Hospital of People's Liberation Army from June to October in 2015 was analyzed retrospectively. There were 7 male and 1 female patients, aged from 38 to 86 years with an average age of (70±15) years, in which 5 cases were cardiogenic cerebral embolism and 3 cases were large artery atherosclerotic infarction. The National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score (M (QR)) was 16 (12) before procedure and modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (mTICI)score were 0 in all the patients. Solitaire AB was used in thrombectomy in the occlusion of the arteries. RESULTS: The causes of difficult intraarterial thrombectomy included multiple thrombus, tortuosity in vascular paths, guiding catheter being placed below the internal carotid artery siphon leading to weak strength of suction and support of stent, embolus dropping in the thrombectomy and inadequate anesthesia. After successful thrombectomy 3 cases had mTICI score of 2a, 4 cases of 2b, 1 case of 3. The NIHSS score was 5 (24) at 7(th) day after treatment. At the 90-day follow-up 5 patients had good prognosis (modified Rankin score 0 to 2) and 3 had disability (modified Rankin score 3 to 4). CONCLUSION: Cases of AIS with difficult intraarterial thrombectomy can be treated by improving thrombectomy materials and technique, reasonable anesthesia and perioperative medication in decision-making strategy.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the correlation between Torque teno sus virus 1b (TTSuV1b) infection and other viral infections or vaccine immunization in conventional pigs. METHODS: With overexpressed and purified viral protein TTSuV1b as antigen, an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method for detecting TTSuV1b antibody was established, which demonstrated great specificity and reproducibility. Porcine serum samples (n = 212) were tested using ELISA. Meanwhile, the antibodies against Classical Swine Fever Virus (CSFV), Pseudorabies Virus (PRV), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV), and Porcine Circovirus 2 (PCV2) were also examined using the commercial kits. RESULTS: Statistical analysis indicated that the level of anti-TTSuV1b antibody was positively correlated with the level of anti-PCV2 antibody in a lesser extent; the level of antibodies against TTSuV1b or PCV2 were significantly lower in porcine serum with low level of TTSuV1b virus, implicating the potential consistency and synchronization in the mechanism of TTSuV1b and PCV2 infection. Whereas, antibodies against PRRSV or CSFV showed no statistical significance on comparison with anti-TTSuV1b antibody, implicating that in conventional pigs, the antibody level for PRRSV and CSFV were not significantly influenced by TTSuV1b infection. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, examination of anti-TTSuV1b antibody in porcine serum with the presently established ELISA method would serve as a supplementary approach for etiological investigation, and the combined statistical analysis of the antibodies against four other viruses might help to further understand the TTSuV1b infection as well as its pathogenicity.
