RESUMO

Magnetic proximity-induced magnetism in paramagnetic LaNiO3 (LNO) has spurred intensive investigations in the past decade. However, no consensus has been reached so far regarding the magnetic order in LNO layers in relevant heterostructures. This paper reports a layered ferromagnetic structure for the (111)-oriented LNO/LaMnO3 (LMO) superlattices. It is found that each period of the superlattice consisted of an insulating LNO-interfacial phase (five unit cells in thickness, ∼1.1 nm), a metallic LNO-inner phase, a poorly conductive LMO-interfacial phase (three unit cells in thickness, ∼0.7 nm), and an insulating LMO-inner phase. All four of these phases are ferromagnetic, showing different magnetizations. The Mn-to-Ni interlayer charge transfer is responsible for the emergence of a layered magnetic structure, which may cause magnetic interaction across the LNO/LMO interface and double exchange within the LMO-interfacial layer. This work indicates that the proximity effect is an effective means of manipulating the magnetic state and associated properties of complex oxides.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged capillary refill time (CRT) is an indicator of poor peripheral perfusion. The aim of the systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the association of prolonged CRT and mortality of critically ill patients. METHODS: To achieve the objective of this meta-analysis, we conducted a thorough search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science to identify relevant observational studies with longitudinal follow-up. The Cochrane Q test was utilized to assess between-study heterogeneity, and the I2 statistic was calculated to estimate the degree of heterogeneity. We employed random-effects models to combine the outcomes, considering the potential influence of heterogeneity. RESULTS: Eleven studies, encompassing 11,659 critically ill patients were included. During follow-up durations within hospitalization to 3 months, 1247 (10.7%) patients died. The pooled results indicated that a prolonged CRT at early phase of admission was significantly associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (risk ratio [RR]: 1.73, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.39 to 2.16, p < 0.001; I2 = 60%). Subgroup analyses showed that the association was not significantly modified by study design (prospective or retrospective), etiology of diseases (infection, non-infection, or mixed), or cutoff of CRT (>3 s, 3.5 s, or 4 s). The association between CRT and mortality was weaker in studies with multivariate analysis (RR: 1.43, 95% CI: 1.27 to 1.60, p < 0.001; I2 = 0%) as compared to that derived from studies of univariate analysis (RR: 6.27, 95% CI: 3.29 to 11.97, p < 0.001; I2 = 0%). CONCLUSIONS: Prolonged CRT at admission may be a predictor of increased short-term mortality of critically ill patients.

Magnetic skyrmions are scarcely investigated for single-crystal quality films, for which skyrmions may have a remarkable performance. Even in the limited studies in this aspect, the skyrmions are usually probed by the topological Hall effect, missing important information on dynamic properties. Here, we present a comprehensive investigation on the generation/manipulation of magnetic skyrmions in La0.67Ba0.33MnO3 single-crystal films. Using the technique of magnetic force microscopy, the current-driven skyrmion dynamics are directly observed. Unlike isolated skyrmions produced by magnetic field alone, closely packed skyrmions can be generated by electric pulses in a magnetic background, with a high density (∼60/µm2) and a small size (dozens of nanometers). The threshold current moving skyrmions is ∼2.3 × 104 A/cm2, 2-3 orders of magnitude lower than that required by metallic multilayers or van der Waals ferromagnetic heterostructures. Our work demonstrates the great potential of single-crystal oxide films in developing skyrmion-based devices.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics and genetic variants in three children with late-onset Multiple acyl-Coenzyme A dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD type Ⅲ). METHODS: Clinical data of three children diagnosed with late-onset MADD at the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University between March 2020 and March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All children were subjected to whole exome sequencing (WES), and candidate variants were verified by Sanger sequencing. All children had received improved metabolic therapy and followed up for 1 ~ 3 years. RESULTS: The children had included 2 males and 1 female, and aged from 2 months to 11 years and 7 months. Child 1 had intermittent vomiting, child 2 had weakness in lower limbs, while child 3 had no symptom except abnormal neonatal screening. Tandem mass spectrometry of the three children showed elevation of multiple acylcarnitines with short, medium and long chains. Children 1 and 2 showed increased glutaric acid and multiple dicarboxylic acids by urine Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. All children were found to harbor compound heterozygous variants of the ETFDH gene, including a paternal c.1211T>C (p.M404T) and a maternal c.488-22T>G variant in child 1, a paternal c.1717C>T (p.Q573X) and a maternal c.250G>A (p.A84T) variant in child 2, and a paternal c.1285+1G>A and maternal c.629A>G (p.S210N) variant in child 3. As for the treatment, high-dose vitamin B2, levocarnitine and coenzyme Q10 were given to improve the metabolism, in addition with a low fat, hypoproteinic and high carbohydrate diet. All children showed a stable condition with normal growth and development during the follow-up. CONCLUSION: The compound heterozygous variants of the ETFDH gene probably underlay the muscle weakness, remittent vomiting, elevated short, medium, and long chain acylcarnitine, as well as elevated glutaric acid and various dicarboxylic acids in the three children with type Ⅲ MADD.

Artificial oxide heterostructures have provided promising platforms for the exploration of emergent quantum phases with extraordinary properties. One of the most interesting phenomena is the interfacial magnetism formed between two non-magnetic compounds. Here, a robust ferromagnetic phase emerged at the (111)-oriented heterointerface between paramagnetic CaRuO3 and diamagnetic SrTiO3 is reported. The Curie temperature is as high as ≈155 K and the saturation magnetization is as large as ≈1.3 µB per formula unit for the (111)-CaRuO3 /SrTiO3 superlattices, which are obviously superior to those of the (001)-oriented counterparts and are comparable to the typical itinerant ferromagnet SrRuO3 . A strong in-plane magnetic anisotropy with six-fold symmetry is further revealed by the anisotropic magnetoresistance measurements, presenting a large in-plane anisotropic field of 3.0-3.6 T. More importantly, the magnetic easy axis of the (111)-oriented superlattices can be effectively tuned from 〈 11 2 ¯ $11\overline{2}$ 1〉 to 〈 1 1 ¯ 0 $1 \bar{1}0$ 〉 directions by increasing the layer thickness of SrTiO3 . The findings demonstrate a feasible approach to enhance the interface coupling effect by varying the stacking orientation of oxide heterostructures. The tunable magnetic anisotropy also shows potential applications in low-power-consumption or exchange spring devices.

OBJECTIVES: Both linezolid and vancomycin are approved by USFDA and IDSA guidelines for the management of nosocomial pneumonia due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in clinical practice. Baseline creatinine clearance is the criterion for prescribing vancomycin or linezolid for hospital-acquired pneumonia in our institution. However, patients with renal function impairment are far more difficult to manage in intensive care. Thus, the objectives of the study were to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of 600 mg of fixed-dose linezolid with intermittent dose-optimised vancomycin in hospital-acquired pneumonia due to MRSA and to evaluate parameters of clinical cure. METHODS: Analysis of a review of patients' charts. Patients with creatinine clearance <80 ml/min received 600 mg linezolid/12 h (n = 139, LN cohort), and patients with creatinine clearance ≥80 ml/min received intravenous 15 mg/kg vancomycin/12 h for 1-2 weeks consecutively or 3 weeks in case of bacteremia (n = 152, VC cohort) for management of hospital-acquired pneumonia due to MRSA. RESULTS: A 59% of patients from the LN cohort and 47% of patients from the VC cohort were clinically cured. Administration of systemic steroids (p = 0.0412) and ≥ 80 ml/min creatinine clearance (p = 0.0498) were the independent parameters for the clinical cure of patients. Nephrotoxicity was higher among patients of the VC cohort than the LN cohort (p = 0.0464). Treatment failed in 41% of patients from the LN cohort and in 53% of patients from the VC cohort (p = 0.0200). CONCLUSIONS: A 600 mg of fixed-dose linezolid is an ideal alternative to intermittent dose-optimised vancomycin for better clinical outcomes for patients with hospital-acquired pneumonia due to MRSA, especially for patients with renal impairment.

OBJECTIVES: The proportion of older people with dementia in China is gradually increasing with the increase in the aging population over recent years. Hypertension and diabetes are common non-communicable diseases among rural populations in China. However, it remains unclear whether these conditions affect the occurrence and development of cognitive impairment as there is limited research on cognitive status and its risk factors among residents of rural areas. METHODS: A multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 5400 participants from rural permanent residents. A self-designed structured questionnaire was used to investigate demographic data of the participants. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Function Assessment Scale (MoCA). The results were analyzed using chi-square test, ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis. RESULTS: A total of 5028 participants returned the survey, giving a response rate of 93.1%. Higher education (odds ratio (OR) = 3.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.87-3.54, p < 0.001), higher income (OR = 1.61, 95% CI 1.16-2.07, p < 0.001), and dietary control (OR = 0.66, 95%CI 0.34-0.98, p < 0.001) were protective factors. A visual representation of the relationship between annual income and MoCA score showed an inverted U-curve, the group with an annual income of 6000-7999 RMB had a maximum OR of 1.93 (95%CI 0.12-2.74, p < 0.001). While difficulty in maintaining sleep were risk factors for cognitive impairment (OR = -2.28, 95% CI-4.18-0.39, p = 0.018). CONCLUSIONS: Participants with middle incomes had better cognitive status than those with the highest incomes. Higher education, proper diet control and good sleep are beneficial to the cognitive status of residents in rural areas.

Disrupted redox homeostasis contributes to renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury. Abundant natural products can activate nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), thereby providing therapeutic benefits. Methyl eugenol (ME), an analog of the phenolic compound eugenol, has the ability to induce Nrf2 activity. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of ME against renal oxidative damage in vivo and in vitro. An IR-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) model was established in mice. ME (20 mg·kg-1·d-1, i.p.) was administered to mice on 5 consecutive days before IR surgery. We showed that ME administration significantly attenuated renal destruction, improved the survival rate, reduced excessive oxidative stress and inhibited mitochondrial lesions in AKI mice. We further demonstrated that ME administration significantly enhanced Nrf2 activity and increased the expression of downstream antioxidative molecules. Similar results were observed in vitro in hypoxia/reoxygenation (HR)-exposed proximal tubule epithelial cells following pretreatment with ME (40 µmol·L-1). In both renal oxidative damage models, ME induced Nrf2 nuclear retention in tubular cells. Using specific inhibitors (CC and DIF-3) and molecular docking, we demonstrated that ME bound to the binding pocket of AMPK with high affinity and activated the AMPK/GSK3ß axis, which in turn blocked the Nrf2 nuclear export signal. In addition, ME alleviated the development of renal fibrosis induced by nonfatal IR, which is frequently encountered in the clinic. In conclusion, we demonstrate that ME modulates the AMPK/GSK3ß axis to regulate the cytoplasmic-nuclear translocation of Nrf2, resulting in Nrf2 nuclear retention and thereby enhancing antioxidant target gene transcription that protects the kidney from oxidative damage.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of distal tibial fractures is a challenge due to their specific anatomical location. However, there is no appropriate mouse model to simulate a clinical distal tibial fracture for basic research. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the feasibility of simulating a clinical fracture of the distal tibia of mice and to investigate the effect of ovariectomy (OVX)-induced osteoporosis on fracture healing in this model. METHODS: Sixty female 8-week-old C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into two groups, either sham or OVX. A semi-fixation distal tibia fracture was established in the right tibia after 8 weeks of OVX. The right tibias were collected at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post fracture. RESULTS: In the semi-fixation distal tibia fracture model, the posterior callus in the sham group showed excessive bone resorption and lower bone mass phenotype compared with the anterior site; a similar trend was not found in the OVX group. At 28 days post fracture, the posterior callus was more mineralized than the anterior callus in the OVX group. Although the fracture healing of the sham group showed a special phenotype in this mode, the progress and quality of fracture healing were still better than those of the OVX group. CONCLUSION: A semi-fixed distal tibial closed fracture mouse model was successfully established. In this model, excess bone resorption of the posterior callus impaired normal fracture healing, but not in OVX-induced osteoporotic bone. Although the stress shielding effect was not observed in the OVX group, impaired bone healing caused by OVX was still present. Our results suggest that this fracture model may have potential for studies on distal tibial fractures and stress shielding.

Aluminum (Al) is a common neurotoxic element that can exacerbate intracellular ß-amyloid (Aß) deposition. Reelin is a highly conserved extracellular glycoprotein that is involved in intracellular Aß deposition. However, the action of Reelin on aluminum-induced Aß deposition is not fully understood. Here, we investigated the effects of the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway on Aß deposition in aluminum maltol (Al(mal)3) exposure in rat pheochromocytoma-derived cells (PC12). Our results showed that Al(mal)3 exposure decreased activity of PC12, increased expression of Aß42, and decreased expression of Aß40. Moreover, Al(mal)3 exposure in PC12 induced Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway-associated proteins changed, decreased expression of Reelin and Dab1, and increased expression of pdab1. Moreover, the expression of Reelin, Dab1, and Aß40 was found to be elevated in PC12 exposed to Al(mal)3 and corticosterone compared to those exposed to Al(mal)3. Also, the expression of Reelin, Dab1, and Aß40 was found to be depressed in PC12 exposed to Al(mal)3 and streptozotocin compared with cells exposed to Al(mal)3 alone. These results suggested that Al(mal)3 inhibits the expression of the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway, promoting Aß deposition. Thus, our findings provided important evidence to better understand how the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway may be a potential mechanism of Aß deposition induced by aluminum.

BACKGROUND: Radiotherapy has been widely used to treat various cancers, but its efficacy depends on the individual involved. Traditional gene-based machine-learning models have been widely used to predict radiosensitivity. However, there is still a lack of emerging powerful models, artificial neural networks (ANN), in the practice of gene-based radiosensitivity prediction. In addition, ANN may overfit and learn biologically irrelevant features. METHODS: We developed a novel ANN with Selective Connection based on Gene Patterns (namely ANN-SCGP) to predict radiosensitivity and radiocurability. We creatively used gene patterns (gene similarity or gene interaction information) to control the "on-off" of the first layer of weights, enabling the low-dimensional features to learn the gene pattern information. ANN-SCGP was trained and tested in 82 cell lines and 1,101 patients from the 11 pan-cancer cohorts. RESULTS: For survival fraction at 2 Gy, the root mean squared errors (RMSE) of prediction in ANN-SCGP was the smallest among all algorithms (mean RMSE: 0.1587-0.1654). For radiocurability, ANN-SCGP achieved the first and second largest C-index in the 12/20 and 4/20 tests, respectively. The low dimensional output of ANN-SCGP reproduced the patterns of gene similarity. Moreover, the pan-cancer analysis indicated that immune signals and DNA damage responses were associated with radiocurability. CONCLUSIONS: As a model including gene pattern information, ANN-SCGP had superior prediction abilities than traditional models. Our work provided novel insights into radiosensitivity and radiocurability.

Aluminum (Al), a neurotoxic element, can induce Alzheimer's disease-like (AD-like) changes by triggering neuronal death. Iron homeostasis disturbance has also been implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD), and excess iron exacerbates oxidative damage and cognitive defects. Ferroptosis is a nonapoptotic form of cell death dependent upon intracellular iron. However, the involvement of neuronal death induced by aluminum maltolate (Al(mal)3) in the pathogenesis of AD remains elusive. In this study, the results of three different behavioral experiments suggested that the learning and memory ability deteriorated and autonomous activity declined of these rats that exposed Al(mal)3 were alleviated by deferoxamine (DFO). Transmission electron microscope observations showed that the membrane was ruptured, and the membrane density increased and ridge disappearance (the most prominent characteristic of ferroptosis) in the perinuclear and cytoplasmic compartments of the hippocampal neurons were perceived in the exposure group, while the DFO group and 18 µM/kg Al(mal)3+DFO group were alleviated compared with 18 µM/kg Al(mal)3. In addition, DFO prevented oxidative stress, such as increased glutathione (GSH) and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), while the latter two indexes had the same changing tendency as the total iron of brain tissue. These data indicated that Al(mal)3 could cause ferroptosis in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat neurons, which was inhibited by DFO via reducing the content of iron and increasing the ability of cells to resist oxidative damage.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of methyl eugenol(ME) on hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R)-induced injury of human renal tubular epithelial HK-2 cells and its mechanism. The viability of HK-2 cells cultured with different concentrations of ME and exposed to H/R was detected by cell counting kit-8(CCK-8) assay. The effect of ME on the morphology of HK-2 cells was observed under an inverted microscope. The content of intracellular reactive oxygen species in different groups was detected after 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate(DCFH-DA) fluorescence staining. Cell apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry. Changes in mitochondrial membrane potential were monitored by JC-1 dye. The concentrations of nuclear factor erythroid 2 related factor 2(Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1(HO-1), and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphatase oxidase 4(Nox4) were measured by Western blot, followed by the assay of Nrf2 concentration changes in cytoplasm and nucleus by confocal fluorescence staining. The results showed that when the concentration of ME was 0-40 µmol·L~(-1), the activity of HK-2 cells was not affected. Compared with the model group, ME enhanced the activity of HK-2 cells and the cell morphology was normal. As revealed by further experiments, ME inhibited the release of reactive oxygen species and the decline in mitochondrial membrane potential of HK-2 cells after H/R injury, promoted Nrf2/HO-1 expression and Nrf2 translocation to the nucleus, and down-regulated the expression of Nox4, thereby significantly reducing apoptosis. This protective effect of ME could be reversed by the specific Nrf2 inhibitor ML385. These findings have preliminarily proved that ME effectively protected HK-2 cells against H/R injury, which might be related to its promotion of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and inhibition of Nox4. Such exploration on the possible mechanism of ME in the treatment of renal ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI) and protection of organ function from the perspective of antioxidant stress has provided reference for related research on the treatment of acute kidney injury with traditional Chinese medicine.

Early loss of grafted islets is the main obstacle to achieve favorable outcomes of islet transplantation. Mesenchymal stem cells are known to have a protective effect; however, its mechanism remains unclear. We hypothesized that bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) can protect grafted islets against endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-induced apoptosis. In syngeneic streptozocin-induced diabetic BALB/c mice, islet grafts decreased blood glucose levels; however, the effect was not fully functional from the immediate post-transplant phase. ß-Cell apoptosis was proven on days 1 and 3 after transplantation. Ultra-structural evidence of ERS was observed along with increased expressions of marker protein BIP and apoptosis-related protein CHOP. In contrast, BMSC co-transplantation maintained glucose hemostasis, inhibited apoptosis and alleviated ERS. In ex vivo culture, BMSCs improved viability of islets and decreased apoptosis. Increased ERS were observed in cultured islets exposed to hypoxia, but not in the islets cocultured with BMSCs. Furthermore, cocultured BMSCs protected islets against ERS-induced apoptosis as well as improved their insulin secretion, and BMSCs alleviated ERS by improving Myc expression through both stromal cell-derived factor 1 signal and contact effect. In conclusion, BMSCs protected the grafted islets against ERS-induced apoptosis during the early stage after transplantation. This study opens a new arena for ERS-targeted therapy to improve outcomes of islet transplantation. Stem Cells 2018;36:1045-1061.

Introduction: Cyberbullying is a commonly-seen and hotly-debated social topic around the globe. This negative behavior is the source of many disastrous events, and so leading government bodies, organizations, schools and social communities attach great importance to addressing this topic. However, there is still much work to do in order to be clear about the causes of cyberbullying. Methods: The previous research cases were mostly viewed from the victims' perspectives; however, there is no comprehensive understanding of the perpetrators' viewpoints. Therefore, based on Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) and analysis of discussion in the literature, the following six variables were chosen as the focus of this study: overconfidence, excessive moral sense, cyberbullying, perceived value, happiness, and continued cyberbullying intention. This study established a research model of continued cyberbullying intention, which was verified by Structural Equation Modeling. In order to achieve the aims of the study, Chinese university students with an average age of 20.29 (SD = 1.43) were recruited as participants, from whom 1,048 valid questionnaires were collected. Results: The research results are as follows: 1. Overconfidence and excessive moral sense positively predicted cyberbullying behaviors; 2. Overconfidence positively predicted excessive moral sense; 3. Cyberbullying positively predicted perceived value and sense of happiness; and 4. Perceived value and sense of happiness positively predicted continued cyberbullying intentions. Conclusion: Students' biased self-perception significantly predicts their cyberbullying behaviors and continued cyberbullying intention. What is more, it is interesting to learn that perpetrators will continue to exhibit cyberbullying behaviors when they believe that what they do (cyberbullying) is valuable or allows them to experience positive feelings; this requires our attention.

Hepatic ischemia reperfusion (I/R) injury is a common clinical complication. X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1), as a critical regulator of the endoplasmic reticulum stress, has been implicated in a variety of diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects and the underlying mechanism of XBP1 in the progression of hepatic I/R injury. Hepatocyte-specific XBP1 knockout mice, multiple viral delivery systems and specific pharmacological inhibitors were applied in vivo in a partial hepatic I/R injury mouse model and in vitro in a cell model of hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R) injury. Mitophagy and autophagic flux were evaluated and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) as well as immunoprecipitation were performed. The results demonstrated that reperfusion for 6 h represented a critical timepoint in hepatic I/R injury and resulted in significant intracellular mitochondrial dysfunction; led to the breakdown of hepatocytes accompanied by the highest expression levels of XBP1. Hepatocyte-specific XBP1 knockout alleviated hepatic I/R injury via enhanced mitophagy, as demonstrated by the reduction in hepatocellular damage/necrosis and increased expression of mitophagy markers. Mechanistically, XBP1 interacted with FoxO1 directly and catalyzed the ubiquitination of FoxO1 for proteasomal degradation. Targeting XBP1 by genetic or pharmacological techniques potentiated the protein levels of FoxO1, further promoting the activity of the PINK1/Parkin signaling pathway, thus augmenting mitophagy and exerting hepatoprotective effects upon I/R injury. In conclusion, the inhibition of XBP1 potentiated FoxO1-mediated mitophagy in hepatic I/R injury. Specific genetic and pharmacological treatment targeting XBP1 in the perioperative 6 h prior to reperfusion exerted beneficial effects, thus providing a novel therapeutic approach.

Our purpose was to develop and evaluate the clinical outcomes of a nursing plan as a rooming-in practice for enhanced recovery of women with preeclampsia following a cesarean section. The authors developed a postoperative enhanced recovery nursing plan as a rooming-in practice for women with preeclampsia based on summarizing evidence-based best practices. The authors used convenience sampling to select women with preeclampsia after a cesarean section from the obstetrics department of a Class A tertiary hospital in Nanjing, China, as the participants in our study. There were 30 women in the experimental group. The postoperative enhanced recovery nursing care plan was formulated for five postoperative time points and incorporated management of blood pressure, temperature, and fluids, as well as monitoring of complications, pain management, activity and rest, diet management, and breastfeeding. The control group consisted of 30 women who received routine nursing care and health education. The authors compared levels of maternal self-efficacy, breastfeeding efficacy, anxiety, pain scores, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) prevention compliance before and after the intervention. Women in the experimental group had a self-efficacy score of 7.5 ± 0.63, which was higher than that in the control group (5.4 ± 0.85); they had a higher breastfeeding efficacy score of 7.13 ± 0.68 when compared to the control group (4.23 ± 0.86); the anxiety score was 6.7 ± 1.62, which was lower than that in the control group (10.03 ± 1.87); and the pain score was lower at 3.26 ± 0.52 when compared to the control group (3.83 ± 0.83). All the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Postoperative blood pressure was controlled within the target range, and the rate of DVT prevention compliance increased in the experimental group. The implementation of a postoperative enhanced recovery nursing intervention for women with preeclampsia as part of the rooming-in practice was effective in helping manage the blood pressure, pain, and fluids of women with preeclampsia, improved their postoperative self-management ability and breastfeeding efficacy, reduced their anxiety levels, improved their compliance with the prevention of related complications, and ultimately promoted enhanced postoperative recovery, thereby guaranteeing the safety of mothers and newborns.

Due to the strong interlayer coupling between multiple degrees of freedom, oxide heterostructures have demonstrated exotic properties that are not shown by their bulk counterparts. One of the most interesting properties is ferromagnetism at the interface formed between "nonferromagnetic" compounds. Here we report on the interfacial ferromagnetic phase induced in the superlattices consisting of the two paramagnetic oxides CaRuO3 (CRO) and LaNiO3 (LNO). By varying the sublayer thickness in the superlattice period, we demonstrate that the ferromagnetic order has been established in both CaRuO3 and LaNiO3 sublayers, exhibiting an identical Curie temperature of ∼75 K. The X-ray absorption spectra suggest a strong charge transfer from Ru to Ni at the interface, triggering superexchange interactions between Ru/Ni ions and giving rise to the emergent ferromagnetic phase. Moreover, the X-ray linear dichroism spectra reveal the preferential occupancy of the d3z2-r2 orbital for the Ru ions and the dx2-y2 orbital for the Ni ions in the heterostructure. This leads to different magnetic anisotropy of the superlattices when they are dominated by CRO or LNO sublayers. This work clearly demonstrates a charge-transfer-induced interfacial ferromagnetic phase in the whole ferromagnet-free oxide heterostructures, offering a feasible way to tailor oxide materials for desired functionalities.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was disruptive to non-COVID-19-related healthcare. This study aimed to compare patient inflows and patient population characteristics at the Hand Surgery Department of JiShuiTan (JST) Hospital in Beijing, a top referral center, in 2020 during the pandemic relative to the same period in 2019. This cross-sectional study was conducted to analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patients admitted to the hand surgery ward. The participants were patients admitted from January to April 2019 (J-A19) and from January to April 2020 (J-A20). The medical records were analyzed, including age, sex, admission time, admission mode, admission diagnosis, and patient residence. Significantly fewer patients were admitted in J-A20 than in J-A19, with particularly dramatic reductions observed for non-Beijing residents and nonemergency cases (e.g., congenital anomalies operations for children). The top 5 diagnosis types for admitted patients were consistent throughout J-A19 and in January 2020. The rank of the diagnostic type "open injuries of the hand and wrist" increased significantly in February, March, and April of 2020 compared with 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic decreased patient admissions, especially for nonemergency patients, during J-A20.

Although Minzu universities provide a platform for communication for college students from all ethnic groups, the multi-ethnic communication pattern could influence students' well-being. To improve the well-being of these minority college students, this study analyzed the impact of intergroup contact on subjective well-being, as well as the moderating role of social support. Through a cross-sectional investigation, 860 valid data were collected from the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The results found that the quantity of intergroup contact, the quality of intergroup contact, and the global intergroup contact could positively predict the subjective well-being of students at Minzu universities. Social support had a positive moderating effect. That is, the stronger the social support, the stronger prediction it had on subjective well-being from the quantity of intergroup contact, the quality of intergroup contact, and the global intergroup contact among college students at Minzu universities. Therefore, based on the methods of increasing contact opportunities, improving contact quality, and enhancing social support, Minzu universities can increase the interaction among students from all ethnic groups and so, further improve the subjective well-being of college students.
