RESUMO
In wireless sensor networks (WSN), flooding increases the reliability in terms of successful transmission of a packet with higher overhead. The flooding consumes the resources of the network quickly, especially in sensor networks, mobile ad-hoc networks, and vehicular ad-hoc networks in terms of the lifetime of the node, lifetime of the network, and battery lifetime, etc. This paper aims to develop an efficient and reliable protocol by using multicasting and unicasting to overcome the issue of higher overhead due to flooding. Unicasting is used when the desired destination is at a minimum distance to avoid an extra overhead and increases the efficiency of the network in terms of overhead and energy because unicasting is favorable where the distance is minimum. Similarly, multicasting is used when the desired destination is at maximum distance and increases the network's reliability in terms of throughput. The results are implemented in the Department of Computer Science, Bacha Khan University Charsadda (BKUC), Pakistan, as well as in the Network Simulator-2 (NS-2). The results are compared with benchmark schemes such as PUMA and ERASCA, and based on the results, the performance of the proposed approach is improved in terms of overhead, throughput, and packet delivery fraction by avoiding flooding.
RESUMO
Single-trial motor imagery classification is a crucial aspect of brain-computer applications. Therefore, it is necessary to extract and discriminate signal features involving motor imagery movements. Riemannian geometry-based feature extraction methods are effective when designing these types of motor-imagery-based brain-computer interface applications. In the field of information theory, Riemannian geometry is mainly used with covariance matrices. Accordingly, investigations showed that if the method is used after the execution of the filterbank approach, the covariance matrix preserves the frequency and spatial information of the signal. Deep-learning methods are superior when the data availability is abundant and while there is a large number of features. The purpose of this study is to a) show how to use a single deep-learning-based classifier in conjunction with BCI (brain-computer interface) applications with the CSP (common spatial features) and the Riemannian geometry feature extraction methods in BCI applications and to b) describe one of the wrapper feature-selection algorithms, referred to as the particle swarm optimization, in combination with a decision tree algorithm. In this work, the CSP method was used for a multiclass case by using only one classifier. Additionally, a combination of power spectrum density features with covariance matrices mapped onto the tangent space of a Riemannian manifold was used. Furthermore, the particle swarm optimization method was implied to ease the training by penalizing bad features, and the moving windows method was used for augmentation. After empirical study, the convolutional neural network was adopted to classify the pre-processed data. Our proposed method improved the classification accuracy for several subjects that comprised the well-known BCI competition IV 2a dataset.

BACKGROUND: Neurological disorders pose a significant health challenge, and their early detection is critical for effective treatment planning and prognosis. Traditional classification of neural disorders based on causes, symptoms, developmental stage, severity, and nervous system effects has limitations. Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for pattern recognition provides a potent solution to address these challenges. Therefore, this study focuses on proposing an innovative approach-the Aggregated Pattern Classification Method (APCM)-for precise identification of neural disorder stages. METHOD: The APCM was introduced to address prevalent issues in neural disorder detection, such as overfitting, robustness, and interoperability. This method utilizes aggregative patterns and classification learning functions to mitigate these challenges and enhance overall recognition accuracy, even in imbalanced data. The analysis involves neural images using observations from healthy individuals as a reference. Action response patterns from diverse inputs are mapped to identify similar features, establishing the disorder ratio. The stages are correlated based on available responses and associated neural data, with a preference for classification learning. This classification necessitates image and labeled data to prevent additional flaws in pattern recognition. Recognition and classification occur through multiple iterations, incorporating similar and diverse neural features. The learning process is finely tuned for minute classifications using labeled and unlabeled input data. RESULTS: The proposed APCM demonstrates notable achievements, with high pattern recognition (15.03%) and controlled classification errors (CEs) (10.61% less). The method effectively addresses overfitting, robustness, and interoperability issues, showcasing its potential as a powerful tool for detecting neural disorders at different stages. The ability to handle imbalanced data contributes to the overall success of the algorithm. CONCLUSION: The APCM emerges as a promising and effective approach for identifying precise neural disorder stages. By leveraging AI and ML, the method successfully resolves key challenges in pattern recognition. The high pattern recognition and reduced CEs underscore the method's potential for clinical applications. However, it is essential to acknowledge the reliance on high-quality neural image data, which may limit the generalizability of the approach. The proposed method allows future research to refine further and enhance its interpretability, providing valuable insights into neural disorder progression and underlying biological mechanisms.

Wearable Sensors (WSs) are widely used in healthcare applications to monitor patient health. During the data transmission, dissemination requires additional time to transmit the details with minimum computation difficulties. The existing techniques consume high overloaded while transmitting data in healthcare applications. The research problem is overcome by applying the non-delay-tolerant dissemination technique (NDTDT) to prevent overloaded dissemination and augment immediate, swift message delivery. The dissemination techniques utilize the intelligent decision-making process to provide the accumulated details to the healthcare center. The proposed approach is reliable in mitigating the errors due to inconsistent and discrete sensing intervals between the WSs. The constraints due to delay and interrupted transmission losses are reduced by selecting appropriate slots for WS information handling. This technique aims at maximizing the delivery of accumulated WS information through non-submissive or underlay dissemination. The method is designed to reduce dissemination delay and maximize successful message delivery. Two variations, sensors and data flows, validate the proposed NDTDT system's performance. The model increases the delivery rate by 0.91% and 0.932%, the dissemination probability by 0.964% and 0.98%, and the final metrics involved are an average delay of 12.78 ms and 11.67 ms.

In the advancement of medical image super-resolution (SR), the Deep Residual Feature Distillation Channel Attention Network (DRFDCAN) marks a significant step forward. This work presents DRFDCAN, a model that innovates traditional SR approaches by introducing a channel attention block that is tailored for high-frequency features-crucial for the nuanced details in medical diagnostics-while streamlining the network structure for enhanced computational efficiency. DRFDCAN's architecture adopts a residual-within-residual design to facilitate faster inference and reduce memory demands without compromising the integrity of the image reconstruction. This design strategy, combined with an innovative feature extraction method that emphasizes the utility of the initial layer features, allows for improved image clarity and is particularly effective in optimizing the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The proposed work redefines efficiency in SR models, outperforming established frameworks like RFDN by improving model compactness and accelerating inference. The meticulous crafting of a feature extractor that effectively captures edge and texture information exemplifies the model's capacity to render detailed images, necessary for accurate medical analysis. The implications of this study are two-fold: it presents a viable solution for deploying SR technology in real-time medical applications, and it sets a precedent for future models that address the delicate balance between computational efficiency and high-fidelity image reconstruction. This balance is paramount in medical applications where the clarity of images can significantly influence diagnostic outcomes. The DRFDCAN model thus stands as a transformative contribution to the field of medical image super-resolution.

RESUMO
PURPOSE: Though it is very important obtaining exact data about patients' voiding patterns for managing voiding dysfunction, actual practice is very difficult and cumbersome. In this study, data about urination time and interval measured by smart band device on patients' wrist were collected and analyzed to resolve the clinical arguments about the efficacy of voiding diary. By developing a smart band based algorithm for recognition of complex and serial pattern of motion, this study aimed to explore the feasibility of measurement the urination time and intervals for voiding dysfunction management. METHODS: We designed a device capable of recognizing urination time and intervals based on specific postures of the patient and consistent changes in posture. These motion data were obtained by a smart band worn on the wrist. An algorithm that recognizes the repetitive and common 3-step behavior for urination (forward movement, urination, backward movement) was devised based on the movement and tilt angle data collected from a 3-axis accelerometer. The sequence of body movements during voiding has consistent temporal characteristics, so we used a recurrent neural network and long short-term memory based framework to analyze the sequential data and to recognize urination time. Real-time data were acquired from the smart band, and for data corresponding to a certain duration, the value of the signals was calculated and then compared with the set analysis model to calculate the time of urination. A comparative study was conducted between real voiding and device-detected voiding to assess the performance of the proposed recognition technology. RESULTS: The accuracy of the algorithm was calculated based on clinical guidelines established by urologists. The accuracy of this detecting device was high (up to 94.2%), proving the robustness of the proposed algorithm. CONCLUSIONS: This urination behavior recognition technology showed high accuracy and could be applied in clinical settings to characterize patients' voiding patterns. As wearable devices are developed and generalized, algorithms detecting consistent sequential body movement patterns reflecting specific physiologic behavior might be a new methodology for studying human physiologic behavior.

By developing a smart band-based algorithm for recognizing urination activity in patients, this study aimed to explore the feasibility of urination monitoring systems. METHODS: This study aimed to develop an algorithm that recognizes urination based on a patient's posture and changes in posture. Motion data was obtained from a smart band on the arm. An algorithm that recognizes the 3 stages of urination (forward movement, urination, backward movement) was developed based on data collected from a 3-axis accelerometer and from tilt angle data. PURPOSE: We compared the efficacy of tamsulosin between 0.2 mg and 0.4 mg in Asian prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients using network meta-analysis due to lack of studies with direct comparison. METHODS: The literature search was conducted using the MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library. Keywords used were "BPH," "tamsulosin," "placebo." Experimental groups were defined as tamsulosin 0.2 mg (Tam 0.2) and 0.4 mg (Tam 0.4) and common control group was defined as placebo for indirect treatment comparison. Mixed treatment comparison was performed including one direct comparison study. RESULTS: Seven studies met the eligible criteria. Indirect treatment comparison revealed that total International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS) and quality of life score of IPSS were not significantly different in Tam 0.2 and Tam 0.4 (P>0.05). There was no significant difference of maximal flow rate and postvoid residual urine volume in Tam 0.2 and Tam 0.4 (P>0.05). Mixed treatment comparison including one direct comparison study showed inconsistency (P<0.001). Therefore, analysis using direct treatment comparison effect sizes of Tam 0.2 vs. placebo and Tam 0.4 vs. placebo was done and there was no significant difference. CONCLUSIONS: Network meta-analysis showed no difference of efficacy between tamsulosin 0.2 mg and 0.4 mg and the evidence of tamsulosin 0.4 mg as initial dose for Asian BPH patient seems to be insufficient. Therefore, initial dose of tamsulosin for Asian BPH patient should be 0.2 mg.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are highly tumorigenic and are responsible for tumor progression and chemoresistance. Noninvasive imaging methods for the visualization of CSC populations within tumors in vivo will have a considerable impact on the development of new CSC-targeting therapeutics. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: In this study, human breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) transduced with dual reporter genes (human ferritin heavy chain [FTH] and enhanced green fluorescence protein [EGFP]) were transplanted into NOD/SCID mice to allow noninvasive tracking of BCSC-derived populations. No changes in the properties of the BCSCs were observed due to ferritin overexpression. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed significantly different signal intensities (R(2)* values) between BCSCs and FTH-BCSCs in vitro and in vivo. In addition, distinct populations of pixels with high R(2)* values were detected in docetaxel-treated FTH-BCSC tumors compared with control tumors, even before the tumor sizes changed. Histological analysis revealed that areas showing high R(2)* values in docetaxel-treated FTH-BCSC tumors by MRI contained EGFP+/FTH+ viable cell populations with high percentages of CD44+/CD24- cells. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: These findings suggest that ferritin-based MRI, which provides high spatial resolution and tissue contrast, can be used as a reliable method to identify viable cell populations derived from BCSCs after chemotherapy and may serve as a new tool to monitor the efficacy of CSC-targeting therapies in vivo.
