RESUMO

Derived from infrared pyroelectric detection, typical terahertz (THz) pyroelectric detectors have low sensitivity at low-frequency THz bands. Based on the high-efficiency absorption of the metamaterial perfect absorber (MPA), a novel split ring hole metamaterial-enhanced pyroelectric detector is proposed to achieve efficient multi-narrowband THz detection. Using high frequency simulation software (HFSS), the dimensional parameters including ring radius, ring width, connection beam width, array period, and thickness, are optimized to enhance efficient multi-narrowband absorption. The as-optimized metamaterial-enhanced detectors are fabricated via micro-nano manufacturing technology. The voltage responsiveness and noise equivalent power of the metamaterial-enhanced detector are tested by THz focused optical path and compared with those of the typical pyroelectric detector and the simulated MPA absorptivity. The results indicate that the metamaterial-enhanced detector has a multi-narrowband detection capability at 0.245 THz, 0.295 THz, and 0.38 THz, which is close to the simulated MPA absorptivity. Compared to the typical pyroelectric detector, the split ring hole metamaterial-enhanced detector can simultaneously achieve thermal absorption, thermal conduction, and pyroelectricity in the same MPA structure, providing faster response speed above 100 Hz chopper frequency and two times higher detection sensitivity at multi-narrowband THz frequencies. This research can be used for THz sensing, absorption filtering, biological macromolecule detection, and other applications.

CD38 is the main NADase in mammalian cells. It regulates the homeostasis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) and extracellular nucleotides. Its function plays an important role in infection and aging. However, its potential functions in tumor cells have not been fully elucidated. In the present study, we demonstrated that lactate, which is derived from tumor metabolism remodeling, upregulates the expression of CD38 through OXPHOS-driven Hippo-TAZ pathway. The highly expressed CD38 converts NAD + to adenosine through the CD203a/CD73 complex and adenosine binds and activates its receptor A2AR, inducing the expression of Snail and promoting the invasion and metastasis of lung cancer cells. This finding elucidates a new perspective on the interplay between NAD + metabolism and glycolysis in tumor development.

Interaction with natural organic matter (NOM) is hypothesized to impact the fate and bioavailability of enzymes and some hazardous proteins in terrestrial and aquatic environments. By using saturated column transport experiments the transport and deposition of the model enzyme lysozyme (LSZ), in the absence and presence of purified Aldrich humic acid (PAHA), was investigated at a series of mass ratios PAHA/LSZ at pH 5 and 8 and two ionic strength values (0.5 mM and 50 mM KCl solution). PAHA decreased LSZ transport under all conditions. The shapes of breakthrough curves (BTCs) and retention profiles (RPs) during cotransport of both colloids evolved from symmetrical to blocking with time and from flat to hyper-exponential with depth, respectively, in response to increases in mass ratio PAHA/LSZ. The results indicated that the "size-selective retention" and concurrent homo- and hetero-aggregation induced straining, which resulted in preferential retention of relatively large PAHA-LSZ aggregates in the column and elution of relatively small ones. Due to differences in aggregate size, in general, the enzyme activity of LSZ in the effluent was larger and that of the retained LSZ was smaller than that of the influent. Therefore, protein transport process could partially increase the enzyme activity and bring potential environmental hazards.
