RESUMO

Normally, only noncentrosymmetric structure of the materials can potentially be piezoelectric. Thus, it is limited in the field of piezoelectricity for the centrosymmetric structure of the material. In this work, the performance of piezoelectricity is successfully achieved from centrosymmetric SrFeO3- x by modulating oxygen vacancies, which have a surface piezoelectric potential up to 93 mV by using Kelvin-probe force microscopy (KPFM). Moreover, the piezoelectric effects of SrFeO3- x are also evaluated by piezoelectric catalytic effect and density functional theory calculations (DFT). The results show that the piezo-catalytic degradation of tetracycline reaches 96% after 75 min by ultrasonic mechanical vibration and the production of H2O2 by SrFeO3- x piezoelectric synthesis could reach 1821 µmol L-1. In addition, the DFT results indicate that the intrinsic effect of oxygen vacancies effectively promotes the adsorption and activation of O2 and H2O as well as intermediates and improves the piezoelectric catalytic activity. This work provides an effective basis for realizing the piezoelectricity of centrosymmetric materials and regulating the development of piezoelectric catalytic properties.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Systemic chemotherapy (SYS) is the first-line treatment of unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). However, the survival benefit of SYS is still limited. This study compared the efficacy and safety of patients with unresectable ICC treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus SYS to SYS alone. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The multicenter retrospective cohort study included patients aged ≥ 18 years old with pathologically diagnosed ICC. Patients with unmeasurable lesions, not receiving SYS treatment, Child-Pugh grade C, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score of 3 or higher, prior liver resection, incomplete medical information, or discontinuation of the first SYS treatment were excluded. Data collection was mainly from the hospital system, and the survival outcome of patients was obtained through follow-up. Overall survival (OS) was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. Propensity score matching at a 1:1 ratio using the nearest neighbor matching algorithm was performed to reduce selection bias between the TACE plus SYS and SYS alone groups. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify prognostic factors associated with OS and to estimate their hazard ratios. Modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria were utilized to evaluate the response of tumors to therapy. RESULTS: Between June 2016 and February 2023, 118 unresectable ICC patients from three hospitals were included in this study. Of them, 37 were in the TACE plus SYS group and 81 were in the SYS alone group. The median OS in the combination group was 11.3 months, longer than the 6.4 months in the SYS alone group (P = 0.011). A greater objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were observed in the combination group than in the SYS alone group (ORR, 48.65 vs. 6.17%, P < 0.001; DCR, 89.19 vs. 62.96%, P = 0.004). There were 16 patients in each group after matching, and the matched results remained consistent regarding OS and tumor response. Adverse events (AEs) were similar in the two groups after matching. CONCLUSION: Compared to SYS alone, the combination treatment of TACE plus SYS was more effective than SYS alone in improving OS, ORR, and DCR without any significant increase in AEs. TACE plus SYS may be a viable treatment option for patients with unresectable ICC.

RESUMO

The search for room-temperature superconductors among high-pressure hydrides is a hot research topic. In this study, the structures, stabilities and superconducting properties of ternary Ac-B-H hydrides were studied using a genetic algorithm (GA) combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. It was shown that the R3̄m-AcBH8 and I4/mmm-AcB2H8 structures were thermodynamically and dynamically stable above 70 and 125 GPa, respectively. In the R3̄m-AcBH8 structure, the BH6 unit and the dispersed H atoms were bonded to form a corrugated structure. The I4/mmm-AcB2H8 structure contained a cage and the Ac atom located at the cage center. The calculations of the electron-phonon coupling showed that the R3̄m-AcBH8 and I4/mmm-AcB2H8 structures had Tc values of 140 K (70 GPa) and 99 K (125 GPa), respectively. The analyses of the phonon dispersion curves revealed that electron-phonon coupling was closely related to the vibrations of the B-H bonds.

RESUMO

The structures, stabilities and superconducting properties of LiSeHn (n = 4-10) hydrides at 150-300 GPa were studied by the genetic algorithm (GA) and DFT calculation method. Three stable stoichiometries of LiSeH4, LiSeH6 and LiSeH10 were uncovered under high pressure. Four other metastable stoichiometries of LiSeH5, LiSeH7, LiSeH8, and LiSeH9 were also studied. By analyzing the electronic band structure and electronic density of states, C2 LiSeH4, Pmm2 LiSeH6 and C2 LiSeH10 were all found to be metal phases above 150 GPa. Electron-phonon coupling calculations showed that C2 LiSeH4 and Pmm2 LiSeH6 were promising superconductors. The predicted Tc values of C2 LiSeH4 and Pmm2 LiSeH6 were 77 K at 200 GPa and 111 K at 250 GPa, respectively.

RESUMO

Low-molecular-weight keratin (LMWK) obtained from wool was employed as a wall material for the spray drying encapsulation of fish oil. Microcapsules with different LMWK contents were prepared, and their anti-ultraviolet performance and other features were studied. The results showed that LMWK was able to improve the encapsulation efficiency of fish oil because of its good emulsifying properties. When the LMWK content was increased from 0 to 10, 30 and 50%, the shelf life of the microcapsules under ultraviolet irradiation increased from 48 to 96 h, 144 h and 168 h, respectively. The strongest absorption efficiency of LMWK is shown in the UVc band. The chemical structure of LMWK did not change during an ultraviolet accelerating ageing test.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one subtype of breast cancer, which is characterized by an aggressive disease. It is commonly accompanied with extremely poor prognosis because of no available molecularly targeted therapy. Thus, understanding the detailed molecular mechanisms of TNBC is urgently needed. METHODS: The levels of Axis inhibition protein 1 (Axin1), Cyclin D1, c-Myc, and miR-124-3p.1 were measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Furthermore, the breast cancer cell proliferation was measured by CCK-8 assay, colony formation assays, and EdU staining. Xenograft model was used to show the tumor genesis of breast cancer cells. The regulatory function of miR-124-3p.1 on Wnt/ß-catenin signaling activation through directly targeting Axin1 was proven using qRT-PCR, Western blot analysis, and dual-luciferase reporter assay. To further assess the clinical significance of miR-124-3p.1 in the prognosis of breast cancer patients, we performed Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank tests. RESULTS: miR-124-3p.1 expression was elevated in advanced TNBC patients, and high miR-124-3p.1 predicts poor overall survival in TNBC patients. Further data showed that miR-124-3p.1 downregulation diminished, while miR-124-3p.1 upregulation increased the growth of TNBC cells in vitro and in vivo. Finally, we proved that miR-124-3p.1 exerted its function via targeting tumor suppressor gene Axin1 and activating the Wnt signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: In summary, all the results demonstrate that miR-124-3p.1 promotes TNBC cell growth by controlling Axin1, suggesting that targeting miR-124-3p.1 might offer an effective therapeutic strategy for TNBC in the future.

RESUMO

Over the past 30 years, the ever-rising demands of the modern and growing population have led to the rapid development of agricultural and industrial sectors worldwide. However, this expansion has exposed the environment to various pollutants including heavy metal (HM)s. Almost all HMs are serious toxicants and can pose serious health risks to living organisms in addition to their bioaccumulative and non-biodegradable nature. Different techniques have been developed to restore the ecological functions of the HM-contaminated soil (HMCS). However, the major downfalls of the commonly used remediation technologies are the generation of secondary wastes, high operating costs, and high energy consumption. Phytoremediation is a prominent approach that is more innocuous than the existing remediation approaches. Some microbes-plant interactions enhance the bioremediation process, with heavy metal resistant-plant growth promoting bacteria (HMRPGPB) being widely used to assist phytoremediation of HMs. However, the most common of all major microbial assisted-phytoremediation disturbances is that the HM-contaminated soil is generally deficient in nutrients and cannot sustain the rapid growth of the applied HMRPGPB. In this case, biochar has recently been approved as a potential carrier of microbial agents. The biochar-HMRPGPB-plant association could provide a promising green approach to remediate HM-polluted sites. Therefore, this review addresses the mechanisms through which biochar and HMRPGPB can enhance phytoremediation. This knowledge of biochar-HMRPGPB-plant interactions is significant with respect to sustainable management of the HM-polluted environment in terms of both ecology and economy, and it offers the possibility of further development of new green technologies.

RESUMO

Interfacing liquid chromatography (LC) with electrospray ionization (ESI) to enable on-line MS detection had been initially implemented using reversed phase LC, which in the past three decades remained the default type of chromatography used for LC/MS and LC/MS/MS studies of protein structure. In contrast, the advantages of other types of LC as front-ends for ESI MS, particularly those that allow biopolymer higher order structure to be preserved throughout the separation process, enjoyed relatively little appreciation until recently. However, the past few years witnessed a dramatic surge of interest in the so-called "native" (with "non-denaturing" being perhaps a more appropriate adjective) LC/MS and LC/MS/MS analyses within the bioanalytical and biophysical communities. This review focuses on recent advances in this field, with an emphasis on size exclusion and ion exchange chromatography as front-end platforms for protein characterization by LC/MS. Also discussed are the benefits provided by the integration of chemical reactions in the native LC/MS analyses, including both ion chemistry in the gas phase (e.g., limited charge reduction for characterization of highly heterogeneous biopolymers) and solution-phase reactions (using the recently introduced technique cross-path reactive chromatography).

RESUMO

The crystal structures of boron hydrides in a pressure range of 50-400 GPa were studied using the genetic algorithm (GA) method combined with first-principles density functional theory calculations. BH4 and BH5 are predicted to be thermodynamically unstable. Two new BH2 structures with Cmcm and C2/c space group symmetries, respectively, were predicted, in which the B atoms tend to form two-dimensional sheets. The calculated band structures showed that in the pressure range of 50-150 GPa, the Cmcm-BH2 phase has very small gaps, while the C2/c-BH2 phase at 200-400 GPa is metallic. The superconductivity of the C2/c-BH2 structure was also investigated, and electron-phonon coupling calculations revealed that the estimated Tc values of C2/c-BH2 are about 28.18-37.31 K at 250 GPa.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess the safety of surgical intervention for extraspinal tumors in the cervical spine. METHODS: 110 consecutive patients were enrolled and followed-up at least 12 months or until death. The complication rates and risk factors were documented and analyzed. RESULTS: The quality of life in the surviving patients was significantly improved. The overall local recurrence rate was 17.3%. Twenty percent of patients developed distant metastasis. The perioperative mortality rate (30 days after surgery) was 0.9%. The complication related mortality was 1.8%. The rates of overall complication and major complication were 41.8% and 20.9%, respectively. The independent predictors for overall complications were Karnofsky score <60, multisegmental resection, and operation time >3 h. The independent predictors of major complications were comorbidity, tumor location at C1-C2, and combined approach. CONCLUSIONS: Surgery for cervical spine tumor could improve the quality of life, though it might be accompanied with high morbidity and mortality. It is a highly demanding procedure; however, it can be performed to an acceptable degree of safety.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Ovalbumin (OVA), a protein with excellent nutritional and processing properties, is the major allergen of hen egg white. High-intensity ultrasound treatment increases the immunoglobulin (Ig)G and IgE binding abilities by unfolding the conformational structure of OVA. This may allow a modification of the IgG and IgE binding of OVA by combining high-intensity ultrasound with other methods, such as glycation, thus representing a promising method for the improvement of protein properties. RESULTS: Glycation with mannose (M) after ultrasound pretreatment at 0-600 W significantly reduced the IgG and IgE binding abilities and dramatically enhanced the antioxidant activity of OVA-M conjugates, with the lowest values of IgG and IgE binding and highest values of antioxidant capacity observed at 600 W. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed that the molecular weight of OVA-M conjugates with ultrasound pretreatment increased more than non-pretreatment sample, implying that ultrasound pretreatment promoted glycation. The α-helix content and ultraviolet absorption of OVA were observably increased, whereas ß-sheet content, intrinsic fluorescence and surface hydrophobicity were notably decreased, indicating that the tertiary and secondary structures of OVA were markedly changed. CONCLUSION: High-intensity ultrasound pretreatment can be conducive to reducing the binding abilities of IgG and IgE and enhancing the antioxidant activity of OVA-M conjugates. Therefore, glycation combined with high-intensity ultrasound pretreatment might be a promising method for producing hypo-allergenic and high-antioxidant OVA products. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hen eggs are widely used in food industry as a result of their excellent nutritional and processing properties and ovalbumin (OVA) is the major allergen of hen egg whites. Ultrasound has been widely used in the food processing industry, although the effect of high-intensity ultrasound on the immunoglobulin (Ig)G binding, IgE binding and conformational structure of OVA remains unclear. RESULTS: Ultrasound treatment at 600-800 W dramatically increased the IgG and IgE binding of OVA, with the highest values observed at 600 W. The free sulfhydryl content, surface hydrophobicity and ultraviolet absorption were gradually increased when the power was increased from 200 to 600 W, implying the occurrence of molecule unfolding. When the power was 800 W, the binding ability was slightly decreased and was associated with the aggregation of OVA molecules. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis analysis implied that ultrasound treatment at 800 W could induce the aggregation of OVA molecules via disulfide bonds and/or hydrophobic interactions. CONCLUSION: High-intensity ultrasound can increase the potential allergenicity of OVA. Therefore, high-intensity ultrasound processing of some egg products alone may improve the risk of an allergenic reaction in egg allergy patients to some extent. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

Chinese medicine prescriptions are a type of medical documents written by doctors after they understand the patients' conditions for syndrome differentiation. Chinese medicine prescriptions are also the basis for pharmacy personnel to dispense medicines and guide patients to use drugs. It has the legal, technical and economic significances. Chinese medicine prescriptions contain such information of names, quantity and usage. Whether the names of drugs in Chinese medicine prescriptions are standardized or not is directly related to the safety and efficacy of the drugs. At present, nonstandard clinical prescriptions are frequently seen. With "Chinese medicine prescription", "names of drug in Chinese medicine prescription" and "standards of Chinese medicine prescription" as key words, the author searched CNKI, Wanfang and other databases, and consulted nearly 100 literatures, so as to summarize current names of drugs in traditional Chinese medicine prescription, analyze the reasons, and give suggestions, in the expectation of standardizing the names of drugs used in traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of compound Zhebei granules (CZBG) with chemotherapy in the treatment of refractory acute leukemia. METHODS: In this multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, we used a central (online) randomization system to assign 235 patients to two treatment groups. A total of 118 patients received chemotherapy combined with CZBG (4 g, twice daily) and 117 patients received chemotherapy plus placebo. The clinical efficacy was evaluated at the end of one chemotherapeutic cycle. RESULTS: In the full analysis set, in which deaths due to disease progression were regarded as inefficacy, the rates of complete remission (CR) and partial remission (CR + PR) were 32.35% and 50.00% , respectively, for the chemotherapy combined with CZBG group, and 23.08% and 35.58%, respectively, for the chemotherapy plus placebo group. There was a statistically significant difference between the two groups according to a χ2 test (P < 0.05). In the per protocol analysis set (PPS), the CR (33.67%), CR+PR (52.04%) response rates for the chemotherapy plus CZBG group were significantly different from the response rates of the control group (CR: 24.24% and CR+PR: 37.37%), respectively (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: CZBG plus chemotherapy can improve the clinical remission rate of refractory acute leukemia after one just one therapeutic cycle.

RESUMO

Using the BALB/c mouse multidrug resistance model of leukemia, the effect of peptide extract from scorpion venom (PESV) to the upstream signal factors of P-gp of MDR leukemia stem cells on the mouse tumor block was observed, and the mechanism of PESV to reverse the MDR of LSC was studied. At the same time, the expression of P-gp, MDR1 mRNA and PI3-K, NF-κB were respectively detected through flow cytometry, RT-PCR, Western blot and Elisa, and the mouse liver, spleen were examined via histopathological methods. The results of the experiment were as follows: mice of the control group didn't show any obvious changes, while mice of the other six groups all showed arched back, emaciation, liver swell, and inflammation was found in all liver tissue. The expression level of P-gp and PI3K on the LSC membrane of mouse tumor block was down-regulated; the expression of MDR1 mRNA in the cytoplasm was obviously down in the PESV low dose group, and which was inordinately up in the middle dose group and the high dose group. The expression level of NF-κB in the leukemia stem cell nucleus remarkably decreased. PESV had a outstanding role of down-regulating PI3K, NF-κb, MDR1 which were all upstream factors of P-gp, and to a certain degree enhanced the sensitivity of LSC to ADM. Therefore, this experiment explained one of the mighty mechanism of PESV to reverse MDR of LSC, and provided a foundation to further study of combinational anti-cancer effects of PESV.

RESUMO

The commodity specification and grade of Chinese medicinal materials is a measure of the quality of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), which directly impacts on the safety and effectiveness of clinical medicines. It is an urgent problem to establish a set of standards which can both interpret the scientific connotation of the commodity specification and grade of Chinese medicinal materials and play a significant role on clinical medicines as well as markets. This paper reviews the research methods of the commodity specification and grade of Chinese medicinal materials such as sensory evaluation, chemical assessment, biological evaluation, and cited the applications of various methods for the classification of TCMs. It provides technical support for establishing standards of the commodity specification and grade of Chinese medicinal materials, and also constructs scientific basis for clinical rational drug use.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The efficacy and safety of drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) and conventional TACE (c-TACE) in the treatment of patients with unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) remained controversial. Therefore, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety between c-TACE and DEB-TACE among patients with ICC. METHOD: Between June 10, 2016 and November 19, 2022, consecutive patients with pathological diagnoses of ICC were divided into the DEB-TACE group and the c-TACE group based on the type of TACE treatment they received. The Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test were used to compare overall survival (OS) between the two groups. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to balance the characteristics between the c-TACE group and the DEB-TACE group. RESULTS: A total of 132 patients were included in this study, with 64 patients in the c-TACE group and 68 patients in the DEB-TACE group. The median OS for c-TACE and DEB-TACE was 5 and 12 months, respectively. The objective response rate (ORR) for c-TACE and DEB-TACE was 0 % and 66.2 %, respectively; the disease control rate (DCR) was 37.5 % and 91.2 %. There were no significant differences between c-TACE and DEB-TACE among adverse effects at 3 months after treatment (P > 0.05). The results remained consistent after PSM. The Cox regression demonstrated that the DEB-TACE was an independent protective factor for OS. CONCLUSIONS: Patients in the DEB-TACE group had longer OS and higher ORR and DCR than those in the c-TACE group, but no significant difference was observed between the two groups regarding adverse effects.

RESUMO

In this case report, we present the case of a 46-year-old woman with a hepatic neuroendocrine tumor (NET G2)-induced liver metastases. Initially, the left lateral lobectomy of the liver was performed. The post-operative pathological examination revealed NET G2, leading to the post-operative recovery with a general review. Further, the re-examination of liver magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed post-operative changes in the tumor of the left lateral lobe, with multiple liver masses and possible metastasis. Thus, the liver interventional therapy and apatinib-based targeted therapy based on the "camrelizumab + apatinib" regimen were performed, respectively. The 20-month follow-up indicated a slightly increased hepatic hilum and retroperitoneal lymph nodes, accompanied by hand-foot syndrome. Eventually, the overall condition continued to relieve, indicating that the combined treatment could substantially improve the NET G2 conditions-associated liver metastasis.

RESUMO

The lack of suitable cathode materials has hampered the further development of calcium-ion batteries (CIBs). A novel composite cathode material, namely BaV6O16·3H2O@GO, was fabricated, which delivers a high specific capacity of 285.72 mA h g-1 at 50 mA g-1 after 50 cycles and a long cycle life, benefiting from a large layer spacing and robust structure. This study provides guidance for the development of vanadium-based cathode materials for CIBs.
