RESUMO

The decarboxylation or decarboxylative coupling reactions of carboxylic acids and their derivatives are some of the most powerful tools for the construction of platform molecules and valuable chemicals in organic synthetic chemistry. Additionally, microwave-assisted technology, which is strongly endorsed by industry in addition to academia, has been recognized as an alternative synthetic chemist's toolbox. Many decarboxylative reactions using microwave-assisted technology have been developed as an advanced strategy for sustainable organic synthesis for decades. This review highlights the recent developments in microwave-assisted decarboxylative reactions, including transition-metal-catalyzed and metal-free approaches.

BACKGROUND: Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by the mutation of the GLA gene, encoding the α-galactosidase, which is responsible for the catabolism of neutral glycosphingolipids. Microalbuminuria or low-grade proteinuria, and continuously progressive renal failure are common manifestations in FD males. However, sudden onset of nephrotic syndrome in FD, is rarely reported. CASE REPORT: A 32-year-old Chinese man was admitted to our hospital because of sudden onset of generalized edema due to nephrotic syndrome. He denied hypohidrosis, nocturia, and any history of episodic hand or foot pain. A few scattered angiokeratoma can be found on the low back skin on examination. Except for the similar locating pattern of angiokeratoma, no evident abnormality was found in the laboratory work up and physical examination of his younger brother. The patient was diagnosed with FD companying with minimal change disease by renal biopsy. Genetic analysis on our patient and his sibling revealed a nonsense GLA gene variant (c.707G > A, p.Trp236*), which has been previously reported in FD. Immunotherapy alone (steroids and tacrolimus), but without enzyme replacement therapy, much improved the massive proteinuria. Follow up to date, his 24-h urine protein is stable at about 0.5 g, and renal function keeps normal. CONCLUSION: Sudden onset of nephrotic syndrome, although rare, may occur in FD, even as the primary renal manifestation, but this usually suggests additional renal disease. Immunosuppressive treatment should be considered in such FD patient companying with nephrotic syndrome.

In the context of the COVID-19 global pandemic, promoting influenza knowledge and vaccine helps reduce the risk of dual pandemics and relieve the pressure on healthcare systems. Due to the low rate of influenza vaccination in China, we conducted a cross-sectional survey to investigate whether a knowledge gap regarding influenza and influenza vaccine exists between Chinese groups of different socioeconomic statuses and then explore the possible factors influencing knowledge level. A total of 951 valid questionnaires were collected online in this study. Variance analysis shows a knowledge gap regarding influenza and influenza vaccination between different socioeconomic status groups. Correlation analysis shows that internet media, social media, public communication, and interpersonal communication are positively associated with the knowledge level. Multilevel regression analysis shows a significant interaction between internet media and educational level. This study finds that internet media use helps narrow the knowledge gap between groups with different education levels. This article recommends a multi-channel promotion of influenza and vaccine knowledge and better pertinence between contents and readers.

Obesity has become a common chronic disease in many countries around the world. People with obesity, as a minority, deserve more social attention. Currently, there are few studies on the health level of people with obesity from the perspective of social influencing factors. This study examines the effects of the frequency of physical exercise and frequency of use of different media types on the level of physical and mental health in people with obesity. In addition, we explore the mediating effect of physical exercise frequency on the relationship between online media use frequency and the mental health of people with obesity. The participants are 882 patients with obesity from the 2017 China General Social Survey (CGSS). The results show that: (1) Online media use was a possible positive predictor of physical health improvement among people with obesity. (2) Physical exercise was a possible positive predictor of mental health improvement among people with obesity. (3) Physical exercise played an entirely mediating role between online media use and mental health. The study is conducive to understanding the relationship and mediating mechanism between physical exercise, media use, and physical and mental health in people with obesity. The results of this study can provide suggestions for improving the health and well-being of people with obesity. Future research could explore more aspects of physical activity (e.g., the methods for physical exercise) and media use (e.g., media preference or compulsive use). More variables can be included in the study of influencing factors of the physical and mental health of people with obesity.

Objective: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is the most common chronic kidney disease (CKD) and has the highest prevalence of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) globally, owing mostly to the rise in Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) correlated with obesity. Current research suggested that the immune response and inflammation may play a role in the pathophysiology of T2DM. The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is a novel and integrated inflammatory biomarker that has not yet been linked to DKD. We aimed to identify the potential relationship between SII and DKD. Methods: In the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2011 and 2018, the current cross-sectional study was conducted among adults with T2DM. SII was calculated as the platelet count × neutrophil count/lymphocyte count. DKD was diagnosed with impaired glomerular filtration rate (< 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 assessed by using the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration algorithm), albuminuria (urine albumin to creatinine ratio ≥ 30 mg/g), or both in T2DM patients. To investigate the independent association between SII and DKD, weighted univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses and subgroup analyses were performed. Results: The study involved 3937 patients in total, of whom 1510 (38.4%) had DKD for the diagnosis. After adjustment for covariates, multivariable logistic regression revealed that a high SII level was associated with increased likelihood of DKD (OR = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.10-1.83, P = 0.01). Subgroup analyses and interaction tests revealed that age, gender, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), body mass index (BMI), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, anti-inflammation therapy (yes or no), metformin use (yes or no), and insulin use (yes or no) had no significant dependence on this positive relationship (all p for interaction >0.05). Conclusions: Our results indicate that the higher SII level is associated with DKD in T2DM patients. The SII could be a cost-effective and straightforward approach to detecting DKD. This needs to be verified in further prospective investigations.

BiSbO(4) nanoplates with a large BET specific area has been prepared successfully via a facile hydrothermal reaction from Sb(2)O(3) and Bi(NO(3))(3). The effects of reaction conditions and the precursors on the final products were investigated. It is proposed that the redox reaction between Sb(2)O(3) and Bi(NO(3))(3) plays a pivotal role in the formation of nanocrystalline BiSbO(4). The hydrothermally prepared nanocrystalline BiSbO(4) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N(2)-sorption BET surface area, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The DRS result clarifies that BiSbO(4), originally believed to be a visible light responsive photocatalyst, is indeed UV light responsive with a band gap of 3.5 eV. The existence of Bi containing an impurity may be responsible for the visible light response of BiSbO(4) prepared via a conventional solid state reaction. BiSbO(4) nanoplates prepared via the hydrothermal method showed superior photocatalytic performance for the degradation of benzene and 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) as compared to BiSbO(4) prepared via a solid state reaction and Degussa P25. BiSbO(4(Hy)) nanoplates can be a promising photocatalyst in the treatment of environmental pollution.
