RESUMO

Domestic and international risk shocks have greatly increased the demand for systemic risk management in China. This paper estimates China's multi-layer financial network based on multiple financial relationships among banks, assets, and firms, using China's banking system data in 2021. An improved PageRank algorithm is proposed to identify systemically important banks and other economic sectors, and a stress test is conducted. This study finds that China's multi-layer financial network is sparse, and the distribution of transactions across financial markets is uneven. Regulatory authorities should support economic recovery and adjust the money supply, while banks should differentiate competition and manage risks better. Based on the PageRank index, this paper assesses the systemic importance of large commercial banks from the perspective of network structure, emphasizing the role of banks' transaction behavior and market participation. Different industries and asset classes are also assessed, suggesting that increased attention should be paid to industry risks and regulatory oversight of bank investments. Finally, stress tests confirm that the improved PageRank algorithm is applicable within the multi-layer financial network, reinforcing the need for prudential supervision of the banking system and revealing that the degree of transaction concentration will affect the systemic importance of financial institutions.

We propose a neuromorphic convolution system using a photonic integrated distributed feedback laser with a saturable absorber (DFB-SA) as a photonic spiking neuron. The experiments reveal that the DFB-SA laser can encode different stimulus intensities at different frequencies, similar to biological neurons. Based on this property, optical inputs are encoded into rectangular pulses of varying intensities and injected into the DFB-SA laser, enabling the convolution results to be represented by the firing rate of the photonic spiking neuron. Both experimental and numerical results show that the binary convolution is successfully achieved based on the rate-encoding properties of a single DFB-SA laser neuron. Furthermore, we numerically predict 4-channel quadratic convolution and accomplish MNIST handwritten digit classification using a spiking DFB-SA laser neuron model with rate coding. This work provides a novel approach for convolution computation, indicating the potential of integrating DFB-SA laser into future photonics spiking neural networks.

OBJECTIVES: To explore the effect of hydrogel loaded with exosomes from Wharton's Jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cell (WJMSC) on wound healing. METHODS: Exosomes were extracted from WJMSC, and the morphology and size of WJMSC-derived exosomes (WEX) were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle size analyzer, respectively. The surface markers CD9, CD81, and Calnexin of WEX were detected by Western blotting. Exosome-loaded alginate hydrogel (WEX-gel) was prepared; its morphology was studied by scanning electron microscope, and its rheological behavior was examined by a rheometer. The in vitro drug release performance of WEX-gel was investigated by BCA method. RAW264.7 cells were treated with alginate hydrogel, WEX and WEX-gel, respectively; and the expression of CD86 and CD206 in macrophages was detected by flow cytometry. A full-thickness skin wound model was established in mice; the model mice were randomly divided into blank control group, WEX control group and WEX-gel group, and PBS, WEX and WEX-gel were applied to the wound area of mice, respectively. On day 3, the skin tissue of mice was excised, and the antibacterial effect of WEX hydrogel was evaluated by plate counting. On day 15, the mice were euthanized and the percentage of residual wounds was calculated. The histological changes of the skin wound were observed after hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and Masson stainings. The expression of CD86, CD206, CD31 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the skin wound tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Exosomes were successfully extracted from WJMSC. WEX-gel presented a regular three-dimensional network structure, good rheology and controlled drug release performance. WEX-gel promoted the polarization of RAW264.7 cells from the M1 phenotype to M2 phenotype in vitro. The residual wound percentage in blank control group, WEX control group and WEX-gel group were (27.5±3.4)%, (15.3±1.2)% and (7.6±1.1)%, respectively (P<0.05). The antibacterial property of WEX-gel is better than that of WEX (P<0.05). The dermis thickness, the number of new hair follicles, and the rate of collagen deposition in the WEX-gel group were significantly higher than those in the other two groups (all P<0.05). The expression of CD206, CD31 and VEGF in skin wound tissue was higher and the expression of CD86 was lower in WEX-gel group than those in other two groups (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: WEX-gel can significantly promote wound healing in mice by regulating the polarization of macrophages.

Owing to the finite building blocks and difficulty in structural identification, it remains a tremendous challenge to elaborately design and synthesize three-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (3D COFs) with predetermined topologies. Herein, we report the first two cases of 3D COFs with the non-interpenetrated hea net, termed JUC-596 and JUC-597, by using the combination of tetrahedral and triangular prism building units. Due to the presence of triptycene functional groups and fluorine atoms, JUC-596 exhibits an exceptional performance in the H2 adsorption up to 305 cm3 g-1 (or 2.72 wt%) at 77 K and 1 bar, which is higher than previous benchmarks from porous organic materials reported so far. Furthermore, the strong interaction between H2 and COF materials is verified through the DFT theoretical calculations. This work represents a captivating example of rational design of functional COFs based on a reticular chemistry guide and demonstrates its promising application in clean energy storage.

The property expansion of 3D functionalized covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is important for developing their potential applications. Herein, the first case of 3D hydrazone-decorated COFs as pH-triggered molecular switches is reported, and their application in the stimuli-responsive drug delivery system is explored. These functionalized COFs with hydrazone groups on the channel walls are obtained via a multi-component bottom-up synthesis strategy. They exhibit a reversible E/Z isomerization at various pH values, confirmed by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and proton conduction. Remarkably, after loading cytarabine (Ara-C) as a model drug molecule, these pH-responsive COFs show an excellent and intelligent sustained-release effect with an almost fourfold increase in the Ara-C release at pH = 4.8 than at pH = 7.4, which will effectively improve drug-targeting. Thus, these results open a way toward designing 3D stimuli-responsive functionalized COF materials and promote their potential application as drug carriers in the field of disease treatment.

Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACis) are the recommended treatment for many solid tumors; however, resistance is a major clinical obstacle for their efficacy. High levels of the transcription factor nuclear factor erythroid 2 like-2 (Nrf2) in cancer cells suggest a vital role in chemoresistance, and regulation of autophagy is one mechanism by which Nrf2 mediates chemoresistance. Although the molecular mechanisms underlying this activity are unclear, understanding them may ultimately improve therapeutic outcomes following HDACi treatment. In this study, we found that HDACi treatment increased Nrf2 mRNA and protein levels and enhanced Nrf2 transcriptional activity. Conversely, Nrf2 knockdown or inhibition blocked HDACi-induced autophagy. In addition, a microRNA (miRNA) array identified upregulation of miR-129-3p in response to Nrf2 overexpression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays confirmed miR-129-3p to be a direct Nrf2 target. RepTar and RNAhybrid databases indicated mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) as a potential miR-129-3p target, which we experimentally confirmed. Finally, Nrf2 inhibition or miR-129-3p in combination with HDACis increased cell death in vitro and in vivo. Collectively, these results demonstrated that Nrf2 regulates mTOR during HDACi-induced autophagy through miRNA-129-3p and inhibition of this pathway could enhance HDACi-mediated cell death.

By using the mixed-linker strategy, a new pillar-layered luminescence Zn-LMOF (JLU-MOF71) ([Zn2Na2(TPHC)(4,4-Bipy)(DMF)]·8H2O) (TPHC = [1,1':2',1″-terphenyl]-3,3″,4,4',4″,5'-hexacarboxylic acid, 4,4-bipy = 4,4-bipyridine, DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide) was successfully synthesized and structurally characterized. JLU-MOF71 is constructed by the 4,4-bipy pillars and 2D layers which consist of Zn2+ and TPHC ligands, and displays a rare fsh topology. Benefiting from the uncoordinated carboxylate sites in the framework, JLU-MOF71 not only can sensitively detect trace amounts of individual Fe3+ and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) through luminescence quenching but also exhibits high selectivity when other competing analytes exist. Besides, TNP can also be effectively monitored with the help of the shifting direction of luminescent spectra (red shift) which has rarely been reported before. On the basis of the aforementioned, JLU-MOF71 can be considered as a potential luminescence sensor for detecting Fe3+ and TNP.

With the help of modulator synthesis method, a mesoporous Zr-based metal-organic framework, [Zr6O4(OH)8(H2O)4(TADIBA)4]·24DMF·45H2O (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide, H2TADIBA = 4,4'-(2 H-1,2,4-triazole-3,5-diyl) dibenzoic acid), namely, JLU-MOF58, was successfully constructed. JLU-MOF58 having reo topology is constructed by the bent ligands with Lewis basic sites and 8-connected Zr6 clusters with Lewis and Brønsted acid sites. It not only possesses two types of mesoporous cages: octahedral and cuboctahedral (2.76 and 4.10 nm), with a pore volume of 1.76 cm3 g-1, but also displays excellent chemical stability in acid and base aqueous phase. Benefiting from the Brønsted and Lewis acid sites, Lewis basic sites, excellent chemical stability, and the mesoporous cages incorporated in the framework, JLU-MOF58 can be regarded as a remarkably efficient heterogeneous catalyst that exhibits excellent catalytic efficiency for CO2 conversion.

Due to their large surface area and pore volume, three-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (3D COFs) have emerged as competitive porous materials. However, structural dynamic behavior, often observed in imine-linked 3D COFs, could potentially unlock their potential application in gas storage. Herein, we showed how a pre-locked linker strategy introduces breaking dynamic behavior in 3D COFs. A predesigned planar linker-based 3,8-diamino-6-phenylphenanthridine (DPP) was prepared to produce non-dynamic 3D JUC-595, as the benzylideneamine moiety in DPP locked the linker flexibility and restricted the molecular bond rotation of the imine linkages. Upon solvent inclusion and release, the PXRD profile of JUC-595 remained intake, while JUC-594 with a flexible benzidine linker experienced crystal transformation due to framework contraction-expansion. As a result, the activated JUC-595 achieved higher surface areas (754 m2 g-1) than that of JUC-594 (548 m2 g-1). Furthermore, improved CO2 and CH4 storages were also seen in JUC-595 compared with JUC-594. Impressively, JUC-595 recorded a high normalized H2 storage capacity that surpassed other reported high-surface area 3D COFs. This works shows important insights on manipulating the structural properties of 3D COF to tune gas storage performance.

BACKGROUND: Studies investigating the effectiveness of acupuncture therapies in alleviating pain in pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) have gained increasing attention. However, to date, there have been no systematic reviews and meta-analyses providing high-quality evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapies in this context. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this review was to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapies as complementary or alternative treatments for pain relief in patients with PID. METHOD: A comprehensive search was conducted in eight databases from inception to February 20, 2023: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating acupuncture therapies as complementary or additional treatments to routine care were identified. Primary outcomes were pain intensity scores for abdominal or lumbosacral pain. The Cochrane risk of bias criteria was applied to assess the methodological quality of the included trials. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) system was used to evaluate the quality of evidence. Data processing was performed using RevMan 5.4. RESULT: This systematic review included twelve trials comprising a total of 1,165 patients. Among these, nine trials examined acupuncture therapies as adjunctive therapy, while the remaining three did not. Meta-analyses demonstrated that acupuncture therapies, whether used alone or in combination with routine treatment, exhibited greater efficacy in relieving abdominal pain compared to routine treatment alone immediately after the intervention (MD: -1.32; 95% CI: -1.60 to -1.05; P < 0.00001). The advantage of acupuncture therapies alone persisted for up to one month after the treatment (MD: -1.44; 95% CI: -2.15 to -0.72; P < 0.0001). Additionally, acupuncture therapies combined with routine treatment had a more pronounced effect in relieving lumbosacral pain after the intervention (MD: -1.14; 95% CI: -2.12 to -0.17; P < 0.00001) in patients with PID. The incidence of adverse events did not increase with the addition of acupuncture therapies (OR: 0.56; 95% CI: 0.21 to 1.51; P = 0.25). The findings also indicated that acupuncture therapies, as a complementary treatment, could induce anti-inflammatory cytokines, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, alleviate anxiety, and improve the quality of life in patients with PID. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that acupuncture therapies may effectively reduce pain intensity in the abdomen and lumbosacral region as complementary or alternative treatments, induce anti-inflammatory cytokines, decrease pro-inflammatory cytokines, alleviate anxiety, and enhance the quality of life in patients with PID, without increasing the occurrence of adverse events. However, due to the low quality of the included trials, the conclusion should be interpreted with caution, highlighting the need for further high-quality trials to establish more reliable conclusions.

Background: Neoadjuvant immunotherapy has demonstrated beneficial outcomes in various cancer types; however, standardized protocols for neoadjuvant immunotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are currently lacking. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to investigate the reliability of neoadjuvant immunotherapy's efficacy and safety in the context of HCC. Methods: A systematic search was conducted across PubMed (MEDLINE), EMBASE, the Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and conference proceedings to identify clinical trials involving resectable HCC and neoadjuvant immunotherapy. Single-arm meta-analyses were employed to compute odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity analysis, data quality assessment, and subgroup analyses based on the type of immunotherapy drugs and combination therapies were performed. This meta-analysis is registered in PROSPERO (identifier CRD42023474276). Results: This meta-analysis included 255 patients from 11 studies. Among resectable HCC patients, neoadjuvant immunotherapy exhibited an overall major pathological response (MPR) rate of 0.47 (95% CI 0.31-0.70) and a pathological complete response (pCR) rate of 0.22 (95% CI 0.14-0.36). The overall objective response rate (ORR) was 0.37 (95% CI 0.20-0.69), with a grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse event (TRAE) incidence rate of 0.35 (95% CI 0.24-0.51). Furthermore, the combined surgical resection rate was 3.08 (95% CI 1.66-5.72). Subgroup analysis shows no significant differences in the efficacy and safety of different single-agent immunotherapies; the efficacy of dual ICIs (Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors) combination therapy is superior to targeted combined immunotherapy and monotherapy, while the reverse is observed in terms of safety. Discussion: Neoadjuvant immunotherapy presents beneficial outcomes in the treatment of resectable HCC. However, large-scale, high-quality experiments are warranted in the future to provide robust data support.

To regulate the safety behavior of employees and improve the occupational safety level of enterprises. Based on the perspective of safety culture, this paper designed an index system based on the four dimensions of safety concept, system, behavior, and physical culture, and it explored a new quantitative assessment method of safety culture level by introducing the concept of maturity into the evaluation of safety culture using the grey fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Combining the characteristics of enterprise safety culture, safety culture was divided into five levels, including original level, starting level, development level, completion level, and leading level, and the maturity model of enterprise safety culture was established. Finally, taking an enterprise to be evaluated as an example, the evaluation steps and application of evaluation results were introduced. The results showed that the evaluation model of enterprise safety culture maturity constructed in this paper provides systematic measurement indexes and scientific evaluation methods for evaluating the safety culture maturity of enterprises.

In rodents, a conditioned place preference (CPP) can be induced by morphine. In the current study, we designed a biased place conditioning paradigm to test the rewarding effects of morphine in freely moving rhesus monkeys. Five monkeys were first placed in three serial rooms with the doors open between them for three days. After this habituation period, during which baseline preference for each of the two end rooms was measured, CPP conditioning occurred when the monkeys were injected intramuscularly with morphine at an increasing dose (1.5, 3, 4.5 mg/kg) before they entered the non-preferred room and on alternate days, with saline before they entered the preferred room. Morphine and saline treatment lasted for six days, respectively. CPP was tested 24 hours after the end of CPP training. The result showed that in all five monkeys, CPP was induced by the morphine treatment. The preference lasted for at least 15.3 ± 1.7 months.

Aims: To further understand, detect and treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), it is urgent to conduct more in-depth research on the mechanism of sex-associated differences. Materials & methods: We established a ceRNA triple regulatory axis associated with ESR1 in HCC and performed expression, survival and nuclear-cytoplasmic localization analyses. In addition to this, we performed methylation analysis and immune infiltration analysis of the ceRNA axis. Results: We constructed the LINC01018/hsa-miR-197-3p/GNA14 (lncRNA/miRNA/mRNA) ceRNA axis to further explain the mechanism of sex-related prognosis in the development of HCC and to provide new insights into candidate biomarkers for targeted therapies. Conclusion: Our study is an innovative attempt at demonstrating the mechanism underlying the prognosis associated with sex differences in HCC by constructing a ceRNA axis (LINC01018/hsa-miR-197-3p/GNA14).

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the most common cancer type in the digestive tract. Chemotherapy drugs, such as oxaliplatin, are frequently administered to CRC patients diagnosed with advanced or metastatic disease. A better understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying CRC tumorigenesis and the identification of optimal biomarkers for assessing chemotherapy sensitivity are essential for the treatment of CRC. Various microRNAs, constituting class of non-coding RNAs with 20-22 nucleotides, have served as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in CRC. We analyzed miR-1278 expression in clinical samples by qRT-PCR. We then explored the role of miR-1278 in CRC growth in vitro and in vivo as well as sensitivity to oxaliplatin via RNA-seq and gain- and loss-of-function assays. We found that miR-1278 was downregulated in CRC samples, correlating with advanced clinical stage, and overexpression of miR-1278 led to tumor growth arrest and increased sensitivity to oxaliplatin via enhanced apoptosis and DNA damage. Suppression of KIF5B by miR-1278 through direct binding to its 3'UTR was the mechanism for the miR-1278-mediated effects in CRC, miR-1278 inhibits metastasis of CRC through upregulation of BTG2. Additionally, we also found that the expression of CYP24A1, the main enzyme determining the biological half-life of calcitriol, was significantly inhibited by miR-1278, according to data from clinical, RNA-seq and functional assays, which allowed miR-1278 to sensitize CRC cells to vitamin D. In summary, our data demonstrated that miR-1278 may serve as a potential tumor suppressor gene and biomarker for determining sensitivity to oxaliplatin and vitamin D in CRC.

Mounting studies demonstrated both chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) and chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection might be associated not only with an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma but also extrahepatic malignancies, i.e., gastric cancer (GC). However, a quantitative result addressing the association between HBV/HCV infection and GC development is scarce. A systematic search to identify the eligible studies was performed in four databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and the PsychINFO. The relationship between HBV/HCV infection and the risk of GC was quantified by calculating the hazard ratio (HR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). More methodologies of this study were available in the PROSPERO (ID: CRD42021243719). Thirteen included studies involving 7,027,546 individuals (mean age, 42.6-71.9 years) were enrolled in the pooled analyses. Two articles provided the clinical data of both HBV and HCV infections. The proportion of high methodological quality studies was 76.9% (10/13). Synthetic results from 10 eligible studies of HBV showed that HBV infection was associated with a significantly higher risk of GC when compared with the healthy controls without HBV infection (pooled HR, 1.26; 95% CI, 1.08-1.47; P = 0.003; heterogeneity, I2 = 89.3%; P< 0.001). In line with this finding, the combined effect derived from five included studies of HCV also supported a significant positive association between chronic HBV infection and GC development (pooled HR, 1.88; 95% CI, 1.28-2.76; P = 0.001; heterogeneity, I 2 = 74.7%; P = 0.003). In conclusion, both chronic HBV and HCV infections were related to a high risk of GC. The plausible mechanisms underlying such association might be correlated to HBV/HCV infection-induced persistent inflammation, immune dysfunction, and cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible effect of orally administered isavuconazole, ketoconazole, or voriconazole on the pharmacokinetics of methadone in rats. Twenty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided randomly into four groups: Group A (control), group B (5 mg/kg isavuconazole), group C (5 mg/kg ketoconazole), and group D (5 mg/kg voriconazole). A single dose of methadone was administrated half an hour later. Methadone in plasma concentrations and its metabolite EDDP in microsomes were determined by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method (UPLC-MS/MS), and pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by DAS version 3.0. The Cmax of methadone in groups C and D increased to 2.7-fold and 5-fold, respectively. While AUC increased in three groups and group D increased the most. Also, isavuconazole, ketoconazole, and voriconazole showed inhibitory effect on human and rat microsomes. The inhibition ratios of isavuconazole, ketoconazole, and voriconazole in rat liver microsome were 97.87%, 96.74% and 78.9%, respectively (p < 0.01), while in human liver microsome, inhibition ratios were 86.97%, 96.46%, and 53.11%, respectively. And the IC50 for inhibition activity of isavuconazole, ketoconazole, and voriconazole in rat microsomes were 7.76 µM, 8.33 µM, and 4.45 µM, respectively. Our study indicated that taking methadone combine with ketoconazole, isavuconazole, or voriconazole could reduce the metabolism rate of methadone and prolong the pharmacological effects in vivo and in vitro.

RESUMO

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) engagement can directly trigger inflammation or amplify an inflammatory response by synergizing with TLRs or NLRs. Autoimmune diseases are a family of chronic systemic inflammatory disorders. The pivotal role of TREM-1 in inflammation makes it important to explore its immunological effects in autoimmune diseases. In this review, we summarize the structural and functional characteristics of TREM-1. Particularly, we discuss recent findings on TREM-1 pathway regulation in various autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), type 1 diabetes (T1D), and psoriasis. This receptor may potentially be manipulated to alter the inflammatory response to chronic inflammation and possible therapies are explored in this review.

PURPOSE: Gastric carcinoma is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer and leading cause of cancer death in China. As a new generation of cancer therapeutic drug, CL-6, a curcumin derivative, shows better bioavailability than curcumin, which has shown anticancer effects in gastric cancer (GC). However, whether CL-6 shows similar activities in GC has not been examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cell proliferation assay, colony-forming assay, flow cytometric analysis, wound healing assay, and Transwell invasion assay were performed to examine the effects of CL-6 on proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion on human AGS and MGC-803 cell lines. Western blot was used to evaluate protein levels of Bax, Bcl-2, YAP, p-YAP, and Lats, and gene expression was measured by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). RESULTS: CL-6 dose dependently reduced proliferation, increased apoptosis, and inhibited the migration and invasion abilities of AGS and MGC-803 cells. CL-6 also increased levels of pro-apoptotic protein Bax, decreased levels of antiapoptotic protein Bcl-2, and increased the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. CL-6 treatment also inhibited YAP and YAP protein and mRNA expression, while it induced the expression of Lats and p-YAP (Ser127). CONCLUSION: CL-6 induces apoptosis of GC cells by activating the Hippo-YAP signaling pathway. These results indicate the therapeutic potential of the novel curcumin derivative CL-6 in GC.

Many brain regions are involved in smoking addiction (e.g. insula, ventral tegmental area, prefrontal cortex and hippocampus), and the manipulation of the activity of these brain regions can show a modification of smoking behavior. Low current transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a noninvasive way to manipulate cortical excitability, and thus brain function and associated behaviors. In this study, we examined the effects of inhibiting the frontal-parietal-temporal association area (FPT) on attention bias to smoking-related cues and smoking behavior in tobacco users. This inhibition is induced by cathodal tDCS stimulation. We tested three stimulation conditions: 1) bilateral cathodal over both sides of FPT; 2) cathodal over right FPT; and 3) sham-tDCS. Visual attention bias to smoking-related cues was evaluated using an eye tracking system. The measurement for smoking behavior was the number of daily cigarettes consumed before and after tDCS treatment. We found that, after bilateral cathodal stimulation of the FPT area, while the attention to smoking-related cues showed a decreased trend, the effects were not significantly different from sham stimulation. The daily cigarette consumption was reduced to a significant level. These effects were not seen under single cathodal tDCS or sham-tDCS. Our results show that low current tDCS of FPT area attenuates smoking cue-related attention and smoking behavior. This non-invasive brain stimulation technique, targeted at FPT areas, might be a promising method for treating smoking behavior.
