RESUMO

The incidence of COVID-19, both complicated and uncomplicated pneumonia, among men is 40% higher than in women and increases at the age of 35-49 years, with a subsequent decrease in the rate. Pneumonia complicates the course of COVID-19 in older persons, due to the greater burden of comorbidity. Among men, the probability of contracting COVID-19 complicated by pneumonia is 1.4 times higher than among women. At the same time, the average duration of outpatient treatment among women is significantly higher both in the group of patients with COVID-19 with complicated and uncomplicated pneumonia. The data obtained indicate the need to develop additional measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection among the male population and the middle-aged population, the incidence of the disease among which is the highest.

RESUMO

Observation of an intense optical linear dichroism arising in cubic KZnF3:Cr crystal at low temperatures under uniaxial stress applied along the four-fold axis is reported. Dichroism occurs in the range of the wide vibronic absorption band corresponding to (5)Eg → (5)T2g transition of the Cr(2+) ions. Strain dependences of the dichroism value were studied at the temperatures of 2.0 K, 4.2 K, and 77 K. We associate our observations with the Jahn-Teller effect in the (5)Eg ground state of the Cr(2+) ion. The model is proposed based on a redistribution of the centers between the minima of the E⨂e problem adiabatic potential that become inequivalent under uniaxial stress applied along the four-fold axis of the crystal. It is shown that random strains in the sample have to be taken into account to achieve the quantitative agreement of the model predictions with experimental data. It is found that random strains in the studied sample originate predominantly from point defects. Obtained parameter values are inversion splitting δ = 9.2 ± 1.6 cm(-1), electron-strain coupling constant qVES = 16 500 ± 600 cm(-1), width of the random strain distribution w = (6.9 ± 0.5) ⋅ 10(-5). It is shown also that the minima of the [CrF6](4-) cluster adiabatic potential correspond to the elongated along the four-fold axes configurations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Fortelyzin in the performance of staged reperfusion therapy for acute ischemic stroke (intravenous thrombolytic therapy plus mechanical thrombectomy) in anterior circulation within the FORTA RF multicenter pilot study. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 72 patients with acute ischemic stroke in anterior circulation, who underwent staged reperfusion therapy in four vascular centers of the Russian Federation from December 2019 to January 2023. RESULTS: The mean time from illness onset to hospitalization was 94.5 minutes in the Fortelyzin group and 97.2 min in the Actilyse group (p=0.78). The time from the moment of hospitalization to the admission of the patient to the X-ray operating room was significantly lower in the Fortelyzin group (p=0.002). The incidence of symptomatic hemorrhagic transformations in the Fortelyzin group was 6%, in the Actilyse group - 8% (p=0.75). A favorable functional outcome in the first group was observed in 47% of patients, in the control group in 42% (p=0.66). Mortality in both groups did not differ significantly and amounted to 22% and 25%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The first results of the FORTA RF multicenter study demonstrate the safety and efficacy of Fortelyzin in staged reperfusion therapy compared to Actilyse.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Segmental duplications at breakpoints (BP4-BP5) of chromosome 15q13.2q13.3 mediate a recurrent genomic imbalance syndrome associated with mental retardation, epilepsy, and/or electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities. PATIENTS: DNA samples from 1445 unrelated patients submitted consecutively for clinical array comparative genomic hybridisation (CGH) testing at Children's Hospital Boston and DNA samples from 1441 individuals with autism from 751 families in the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) repository. RESULTS: We report the clinical features of five patients with a BP4-BP5 deletion, three with a BP4-BP5 duplication, and two with an overlapping but smaller duplication identified by whole genome high resolution oligonucleotide array CGH. These BP4-BP5 deletion cases exhibit minor dysmorphic features, significant expressive language deficits, and a spectrum of neuropsychiatric impairments that include autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorder, and mood disorder. Cognitive impairment varied from moderate mental retardation to normal IQ with learning disability. BP4-BP5 covers approximately 1.5 Mb (chr15:28.719-30.298 Mb) and includes six reference genes and 1 miRNA gene, while the smaller duplications cover approximately 500 kb (chr15:28.902-29.404 Mb) and contain three reference genes and one miRNA gene. The BP4-BP5 deletion and duplication events span CHRNA7, a candidate gene for seizures. However, none of these individuals reported here have epilepsy, although two have an abnormal EEG. CONCLUSIONS: The phenotype of chromosome 15q13.2q13.3 BP4-BP5 microdeletion/duplication syndrome may include features of autism spectrum disorder, a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders, and cognitive impairment. Recognition of this broader phenotype has implications for clinical diagnostic testing and efforts to understand the underlying aetiology of this syndrome.

RESUMO

Data on the epizootic situation of rabies in the Republic of Tatarstan from 1970-2003 were obtained from epizootological and immunological monitoring. The districts in Tatarstan were divided into four groups according to the intensity of indices and a map of epizootics was developed. A three- to five-year cyclic recurrence of rabies, with peaks in the spring-winter-autumn seasons of the year was established. Foxes are the basic source and spreader of rabid infection in the Republic amounting to 96.5 % of rabies cases among wild animals. The present study gives the results of epizootological analysis of the efficacy of oral immunization of foxes in the republic since 1996.

RESUMO

The coupling of phonons with collective modes and single-particle gap excitations associated with one- (1d) and two-directional (2d) electronically driven charge-density wave (CDW) ordering in metallic RTe3 is investigated as a function of rare-earth ion chemical pressure (R=Tb,Dy,Ho) using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. From the T dependence of the CDW gap DeltaCDW and the amplitude mode, we find that while the transition to a 1d-CDW ordered state at Tc1 initially proceeds in an exemplary mean-field-like fashion, below Tc1, DeltaCDW is depressed and departs from the mean-field behavior. The effect is apparently triggered by resonant mode mixing of the amplitude mode with a totally symmetric phonon at 1.75 THz. At low temperatures, when the state evolves into a 2d-CDW ordered state at Tc2 in the DyTe3 and HoTe3, additional much weaker mode mixing is evident but no soft mode is observed.
