BACKGROUND: He long noncoding RNA small nucleolar host RNA 5 (SNHG5) is highly expressed in many cancers, and there is a notable correlation between the elevated expression of SNHG5 and survival outcome in cancer patients. The objective of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis to evaluate the correlation between SNHG5 expression and the clinical outcome of cancer patients. METHODS: Six relevant electronic databases were exhaustively searched, and, depending on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, appropriate literature was obtained. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) score was utilized to evaluate the quality of the research for every article included, and pertinent data from each study were carefully extracted. Hazard ratios (HRs), odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were combined to explore the association of SNHG5 expression levels with cancer prognosis, and sensitivity analyses and assessments of publication bias were also conducted to investigate any possibility in the publication of the studies. RESULTS: Eleven studies encompassing 721 patients were ultimately collected. When combined, the hazard ratios (HRs) revealed a substantial direct correlation between elevated SNHG5 expression and an unfavourable prognosis for cancer patients (HR = 1.90, 95% CI 0.87-4.15); however, the correlation did not reach statistical significance. Furthermore, high SNHG5 expression was predictive of advanced TNM stage (OR: 1.988, 95% CI 1.205-3.278) and larger tumour size (OR: 1.571, 95% CI 1.090-2.264); moreover, there were nonsignificant relationships between SNHG5 expression and DM (OR: 0.449, 95% CI 0.077-2.630), lymph node metastasis (OR: 1.443, 95% CI 0.709-2.939), histological grade (OR: 2.098, 95% CI 0.910-4.838), depth of invasion (OR: 1.106, 95% CI 0.376-3.248), age (OR: 0.946, 95% CI 0.718-1.247) and sex (OR: 0.762, 95% CI 0.521-1.115). CONCLUSION: SNHG5 expression is typically increased in the majority of tumour tissues. Elevated SNHG5 expression may indicate poor prognosis in cancer patients. Therefore, SNHG5 is a promising potential therapeutic target for tumours and a reliable prognostic biomarker.

Unilateral Tracheobronchial foreign body (TFB) present a common clinical disease, whereas bilateral TFB is a rare and acute condition associated with high mortality rates. This case study discusses a pediatric patient hospitalized due to respiratory distress following accidental ingestion of peanut kernels. A plain chest CT scan revealed obstructive emphysema in the right main bronchus and a foreign body at the opening of the left main bronchus. Surgical removal of the bilateral TFB under extracorporeal circulation resulted in a successful postoperative recovery, leading to discharge on the 9th day. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and CNKI, spanning publications from January 2014 to October 2023, utilizing keywords "bronchial foreign body" and "Peanut". After deduplication and relevance screening, 9 pertinent literature sources were included. The objective of this study is to enhance clinical practitioners' understanding of TFB management and improve diagnostic and treatment capabilities through analysis of age of onset, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment approaches in critically ill pediatric patients.

BACKGROUND: The association between Killer cell lectin like receptor B1 (KLRB1) and cancer has been reported, but the roles of KLRB1 in breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA) has not been fully revealed. METHODS: Our study utilized the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Kaplan-Meier (K-M) Plotter, and TIMER databases to investigate the expression and clinical relevance of KLRB1 in BRCA and to explore its roles and mechanism in BRCA progression using gene set enrichment analysis, CCK-8, migration, apoptosis, and western blotting. We examined the relationship between KLRB1 expression and the BRCA immune microenvironment, using data from TCGA, and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) databases and validated these findings in K-M Plotter databases. RESULTS: A significant decrease of KLRB1 expression was observed in BRCA patients. BRCA patients with low KLRB1 levels were associated with older age, advanced disease stage, HER2-positivity, poor prognosis, and a decreased survival probability compared to the high-expression group. Increased KLRB1 expression levels were correlated with inhibition of breast cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, as well as promotion of cell apoptosis, possible through regulation of the NF-κB, PI3K/AKT, and TNF signaling pathways. Moreover, the study also indicated that decreased KLRB1 expression correlated with tumor purity, immune score, and immune cell infiltration (B cells, CD8+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, neutrophils, dendritic cells, among others), cell markers, and immunotherapy. CONCLUSION: Decreased KLRB1 expression in BRCA is associated with poor prognosis and immune microenvironment. This study also highlights KLRB1 as a potential molecular marker for poor prognosis in BRCA patients, and therefore, it may provide clinical implications for the management of patients with BRCA.

Esophageal cancer (ESCA) is one of the common malignant tumors. The roles and signaling mechanisms of spindle apparatus coiled-coil protein 1 (SPDL1) in ESCA progression have not been reported previously. Therefore, the expression levels and potential clinical roles of SPDL1 were investigated using data from multiple databases and tissue samples of 53 ESCA patients who underwent 18F-FDG positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) before therapy. The signaling mechanisms of SPDL1 involved in ESCA progression were investigated via bioinformatics analysis. The effects of SPDL1 on the growth and migration of ESCA cells were investigated using CCK-8, Edu, and transwell assays. SPDL1 was upregulated in ESCA tissues. Increased SPDL1 expression was associated with age, grade, drinking history, cancer stage, lymph node metastasis, TP53 mutation, and poor prognosis in patients with ESCA. SPDL1 overexpression was significantly correlated with SUVmax, SUVmean, and TLG of PET/CT. SPDL1 silencing inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. SPDL1 was significantly enriched in cell cycle, spliceosome, DNA replication, and other processes. The hub genes of a constructed protein-protein interaction network included CDK1, BUB1, CCNB1, BUB1B, CCNA2, CDC20, MAD2L1, AURKB, NDC80, and PLK1, which were related to SPDL1 expression. The findings of this study suggest that SPDL1 may serve as a biomarker of ESCA prognosis.

BACKGROUND: The abnormal expression of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair genes might be the cause of tumor development and resistance of malignant cells to chemotherapeutic drugs. A risk model based on the X-ray repair of cross-complementary (XRCC) genes was constructed to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients. METHODS: The expression levels, diagnostic values, and prognostic values of XRCC genes were identified, and the roles and regulatory mechanisms of the risk model based on the XRCC4/5/6 in LUAD progression was explored via The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Oncomine databases. RESULTS: XRCC1/2/3/4/5/6, XRCC7 (PRKDC), and XRCC9 (FANCG) were overexpressed, and had diagnostic value for LUAD. The XRCC genes were involved in DNA repair, and participated in the regulation of non-homologous end-joining, homologous recombination, etc. The overall survival (OS), tumor (T) stage, and survival status of patients were significantly different between the Cluster1 and Cluster2 groups. XRCC4/5/6 were independent risk factors affecting the prognosis of LUAD patients. The risk score was related to the prognosis, sex, clinical stage, T, lymph node (N), and metastasis (M) stage, as well as the survival status of LUAD patients. The clinical stage and risk score were independent risk factors for poor prognosis in LUAD patients. The risk model was involved in RNA degradation, cell cycle, basal transcription factors, DNA replication etc. The risk scores were significantly correlated with the expression levels of TGFBR1, CD160, TNFSF4, TNFRSF14, IL6R, CXCL16, TNFRSF25, TAPBP, CCL16, and CCL14. CONCLUSIONS: The risk model based on the XRCC4/5/6 genes could predict the progression of LUAD patients.
