RESUMO

Photonic generation of linearly chirped microwave waveforms (LCMWs) using a monolithic integrated three-section laser is experimentally demonstrated in this work. All three sections of the laser cavity, including the front DFB section, phase section and rear DFB section, have the same active layer, which can avoid the butt-joint re-growth process. The gratings in both DFB sections are fabricated by the Reconstruction Equivalent Chirp technique, which can significantly decrease the difficulties in realizing precise grating structure. By adjusting the integrated three-section semiconductor laser to work in the period-one (P1) state and applying a sweeping signal to the front DFB section, the beating signal, i.e., an LCMW with a large time bandwidth product (TBWP), can be generated. In the current proof-of-concept experiment, an LCMW with a large TBWP up to 5.159 × 105 is generated, of which the bandwidth and the duration time are 6.7 GHz and 77 us respectively. The compressed pulse width is 150 ps. In addition, by adjusting the bias currents of the rear DFB section and front DFB section as well as the amplitude of the sweeping signals, LCMWs with tunable center frequency and tunable bandwidth can be achieved.

RESUMO

A monolithic optical injection-locked (MOIL) DFB laser with large stable injection locking range is experimentally demonstrated using the side-mode injection locking technique. The low-frequency roll-off in the MOIL DFB laser is suppressed significantly. The relaxation oscillation frequency is measured to be 26.84 GHz and the intrinsic 3-dB response bandwidth is more than 30 GHz, which is about 20 GHz higher than that of the free running DFB laser. The nonlinear distortions, including the 1-dB compression point, second harmonic distortion (2HD) and third-order intermodulation distortion (IMD3), are also suppressed significantly. A simple radio-over-fiber system transmitting 40 Msymbol/s 32-QAM signal with 6 GHz carrier is achieved using the MOIL DFB laser. After 50 km transmission, the average error vector magnitude (EVM) of the whole link is 2.94% in injection locked state, while the EVM in free running DFB laser is 5.25% as a comparison. To our knowledge, this is the first time that the MOIL DFB laser is realized utilizing the side-mode injection locking method.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to prepare a dioscin nanosuspension (Dio-NS) that has a better distance and high solubility for oral administration and to evaluate its hepatoprotective effects. Optimal primary manufacture parameters, including shear time, shear speed, emulation temperature, pressure, and cycles of homogenization, were determined by single-factor experiments. The concentrations of dioscin, SDS, and soybean lecithin were optimized using the central composite design-response surface method, and their effects on the mean particle size (MPS) and particle size distribution of Dio-NS were investigated. Characterization of the Dio-NS formulations included examinations of the surface morphology and physical status of dioscin in Dio-NS, the stability of Dio-NS at different temperatures, in vitro solubility, and liver protective effect in vivo. Under optimal conditions, Dio-NS had an MPS of 106.72 nm, polydispersity index of 0.221, and zeta potential of -34.27 mV. Furthermore, the proportion of dioscin in Dio-NS was approximately 21.26%. The observation of particles with a spherical shape and the disappearance of crystalline peaks indicated that the physical and chemical properties of Dio-NS were altered. Furthermore, we observed that the dissolution of Dio-NS was superior to that of a physical mixture and Dio-GZF. Moreover, Dio-NS was demonstrated to have a protective effect against CCl4-induced acute liver damage in mice that was equivalent to that of silymarin (a positive control drug) at the same dose. The good hepatoprotective effect of our Dio-NS preparation can provide a theoretical basis for investigating its absorption mechanisms in the body.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and gout are common rheumatic diseases. However, their coexistance has been rarely reported. Here in, we describe a case of a middle aged Chinese woman having RA complicated with atypical gout on both the knee joints. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 44-year-old Chinese woman complained of swelling and tenderness of multiple joints since 10 months. She had a positive rheumatoid factor and high titers of anti-CCP antibody. She was diagnosed with RA, and commenced on methotrexate, leflunomide, and methylprednisolone. Her symptoms of pain and swelling over interphalangeal and wrists joints subsided except the knee joints. She was started with treat to target treatment (TTT) for RA and rest of her medications was adjusted accordingly. Surprisingly, her symptoms did not improve ever after the addition of a biologic agent, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α receptor antagonist. DIAGNOSIS: Presence of urate crystals in the synovium was viewed under polarization microscope which was extracted from one of the knee joint. Hence, we established the diagnosis of RA complicated with gout. INTERVENTIONS: We commenced her on TNF-α receptor antagonist, colchicines, and febuxostat. OUTCOMES: Her symptoms of pain and swelling improved significantly on both the knees and no longer recurred. LESSONS: Coexistence of RA and gout has been rarely reported as it is not frequently seen in clinical practice. Hence, when patients with RA with oligoarthritis repeatedly do not respond to TTT, a standard antirheumatism treatment, the possibility of RA complicating with gout should be rule out.
