BACKGROUND: Interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a proinflammatory cytokine primarily secreted by Th17 cells, γδT cells and natural killer T (NKT) cells, performs essential roles in the microenvironment of certain inflammation-related tumours by regulating cancer growth and tumour elimination proved in previous literature. In this study, the mechanism of IL-17A that induces mitochondrial dysfunction promoted pyroptosis has been explored in colorectal cancer cells. METHOD: The records of 78 patients diagnosed with CRC were reviewed via the public database to evaluate clinicopathological parameters and prognosis associations of IL-17A expression. The colorectal cancer cells were treated with IL-17A, and the morphological characteristics of those cells were indicated by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. After IL-17A treatment, mitochondrial dysfunction was tested by mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and reactive oxygen species (ROS). The expression of pyroptosis associated proteins including cleaved caspase-4, cleaved gasdermin-D (GSDMD), IL-1ß, receptor activator of nuclear NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), apoptosis-associated speck like protein containing a card (ASC), and factor-kappa B was measured through western blotting. RESULTS: Positive IL-17A protein expression was observed in CRC compared to the non-tumour tissue. IL-17A expression indicates a better differentiation, earlier stage, and better overall survival in CRC. IL-17A treatment could induce mitochondrial dysfunction and stimulate intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Furthermore, IL-17A could promote pyroptosis of colorectal cancer cells and significantly increase the secretion of inflammatory factors. Nevertheless, the pyroptosis induced by IL-17A could be inhibited through the pre-treatment with Mito-TEMPO (a mitochondria-targeted superoxide dismutase mimetic with superoxide and alkyl radical scavenging properties) or Z-LEVD-FMK (caspase-4 inhibitor, fluoromethylketone). Additionally, after being treated with IL-17A, an increasing number of CD8 + T cells showed in mouse-derived allograft colon cancer models. CONCLUSION: IL-17A, as a cytokine mainly secreted by γδT cells in the colorectal tumour immune microenvironment, can regulate the tumour microenvironment in multiple ways. IL-17A could induce mitochondrial dysfunction and pyroptosis through the ROS/NLRP3/caspase-4/GSDMD pathway, and promote intracellular ROS accumulation. In addition, IL-17A can promote the secretion of inflammatory factors such as IL-1ß、IL-18 and immune antigens, and recruit CD8 + T cells to infiltrate tumours.

RESUMO

Transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) is a novel approach to radical surgery for low rectal cancer. taTME is associated with the benefits of a higher rate of free distal resection margins (DRM) under direct visualization, better visualization of the mesorectal plane, and the feasibility of overcoming the restriction of the distal pelvis. Thus, it is increasingly used globally. In this review, we investigated whether taTME yields better short- and long-term outcomes than laparoscopic TME.

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of patients with locally advanced gastric cancer with outlet obstruction is poor. Gastrectomy with curative intent is often initially impossible or difficult. OBJECTIVE: We report our experience of curative distal gastrectomy after laparoscopic gastrojejunostomy and fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) chemotherapy to examine the feasibility and safety of this modified strategy for locally advanced gastric cancer with outlet obstruction, initially deemed unresectable. METHODS: Between October 2017 and June 2019, 15 patients diagnosed with locally advanced gastric cancer with outlet obstruction sequentially underwent gastrojejunostomy, received four cycles of FLOT chemotherapy, and underwent laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with curative intent (R0 resection + D2 lymphadenectomy). Clinical data were retrospectively collected and analyzed. RESULTS: R0 resection was possible in 12/15 patients, laparoscopically in 11, and one conversion to laparotomy was necessary. There was no perioperative mortality in the 12 patients. Pathologic evaluation of the resected specimens revealed that complete tumor grade regression 1a (TRG1a), TRG1b, TRG2, and TRG3 occurred in 3, 2, 4, and 3 patients, respectively. CONCLUSION: This case series showed that curative surgical resection was feasible as a staged approach for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer with outlet obstruction, after initial staged gastrojejunostomy and chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of different suture reinforcement methods for anastomotic leakage and other postoperative complications after the use of a laparoscopic double stapling technique (DST). METHODS: We collected the data of 124 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer from July 2017 to September 2018 at our institution. Patients were divided into three groups according to the suture reinforcement methods: intermittent, continuous suture reinforcement, and non-reinforcement (n = 41, 41, and 42, respectively). One-way analysis of variance, χ2 , Fisher's exact, and nonparametric tests were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Among the 124 patients, there were no statistically significant differences in operation times, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hospital stays and recovery of bowel movement. Nine patients were diagnosed with anastomotic leakage (AL). The incidences of serious AL in the intermittent and continuous suture reinforcement groups were lower than that in the control group, with lower reoperation rate, shorter average lengths of stay and lower treatment costs of two experimental groups. CONCLUSION: Intermittent and continuous sutures after laparoscopic DST is effective, safe, and feasible on anastomotic leakage prevention. These procedures could be popularized in rectal surgery on patients with high risk of AL.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: We compared the 3-year overall survival between cephalomedial-to-lateral approach proctectomy (CEMP) and medial-to-lateral approach proctectomy (MAP) in patients undergoing laparoscopic total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer. The advantages of CEMP and the clinical value of No. 253 lymph nodes resection have not been objectively analyzed in literature. METHODS: This was a prospective, two-arm, multicenter, single-blinded, randomized trial. The primary endpoint was 3-year overall survival, and secondary endpoints included safety, feasibility, oncological radicality (including number of No. 253 lymph nodes harvested), short-term outcome, 3-year disease-free survival, rate of postoperative complications, mortality, and rate of recurrence. RESULTS: From May 2016 to July 2020, 506 patients were enrolled-256 in the CEMP group and 250 in the MAP group. Comparison of overall survival and disease-free survival showed that there was treatment benefit in the CEMP group (28.22 ± 12.12 vs. 27.44 ± 13.06, p = 0.485; 27.24 ± 12.01 vs. 26.42 ± 12.81; p = 0.457). More No. 253 lymph nodes were harvested in the CEMP group, and cases with positive No. 253 lymph nodes had worse prognosis in stage III. Surgical safety was equal for both approaches. CONCLUSIONS: Dissection of No. 253 lymph nodes may be important to improve clinical prognosis, but further studies with larger samples are needed to confirm this finding.

BACKGROUND: Glioma stem cells (GSCs) are glioma cells with stemness and are responsible for a variety of malignant behaviors of glioma. Evidence has shown that signals from tumor microenvironment (TME) enhance stemness of glioma cells. However, identification of the signaling molecules and underlying mechanisms has not been completely elucidated. METHODS: Human samples and glioma cell lines were cultured in vitro to determine the effects of adenovirus (ADV) infection by sphere formation, RT-qPCR, western blotting, FACS and immunofluorescence. For in vivo analysis, mouse intracranial tumor model was applied. Bioinformatics analysis, gene knockdown by siRNA, RT-qPCR and western blotting were applied for further mechanistic studies. RESULTS: Infection of patient-derived glioma cells with ADV increases the formation of tumor spheres. ADV infection upregulated stem cell markers and in turn promoted the capacities of self-renewal and multi-lineage differentiation of the infected tumor spheres. These ADV infected tumor spheres had stronger potential to form xenograft tumors in immune-compromised mice. GSCs formation could be promoted by ADV infection via TLR9, because TLR9 was upregulated after ADV infection, and knockdown of TLR9 reduced ADV-induced GSCs. Consistently, MYD88, as well as total STAT3 and phosphorylated (p-)STAT3, were also upregulated in ADV-induced GSCs. Knockdown of MYD88 or pharmaceutical inhibition of STAT3 attenuated stemness of ADV-induced GSCs. Moreover, we found that ADV infection upregulated lncRNA NEAT1. Knockdown of NEAT1 impaired stemness of ADV-induced GSCs. Lastly, HMGB1, a damage associated molecular pattern (DAMP) that triggers TLR signaling, also upregulated stemness markers in glioma cells. CONCLUSION: ADV, which has been developed as vectors for gene therapy and oncolytic virus, promotes the formation of GSCs via TLR9/NEAT1/STAT3 signaling. Video abstract.

Medical Genetics is an important research content of basic medicine and closely related to clinical medicine. Medical Genetics can not only lay a solid theoretical foundation for understanding medical problems for medical students, but also provide them an indispensable technical means for clinical medical practice. In order to improve students' understanding and mastery of the core content of Medical Genetics and cultivate senior medical talents with innovative spirit and independent thinking abilities, the PBL (problem-based learning) teaching method was introduced in the teaching of medical genetics for students enrolled in the eight-year medical education program. By integrating formative evaluation and teaching feedback mechanism into PBL teaching, we have achieved good teaching effects. In this paper, we will discuss the importance and necessity of formative evaluation and teaching feedback in PBL teaching, introduce the PBL teaching plan, teaching process and teaching effect of Medical Genetics in our school, share our thoughts on PBL teaching mode, and provide new ideas for the teaching reform of Medical Genetics.

Mammalian neural stem cells (NSCs) are not only responsible for normal development of the central nervous system (CNS), but also participate in brain homeostasis and repair, thus hold promising clinical potentials in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and trauma. However the molecular networks regulating the stemness and differentiation of NSCs have not been fully understood. In this study, we show that Tweety-homolog 1 (Ttyh1), a five-pass transmembrane protein specifically expressed in mouse brain, is involved in maintaining stemness of murine NSCs. Blocking or activating Notch signal led to downregulation and upregulation of Ttyh1 in cultured NSCs, respectively, suggesting that Ttyh1 is under the control of Notch signaling. Knockdown of Ttyh1 in cultured NSCs resulted in a transient increase in the number and size of neurospheres, followed by a decrease of stemness as manifested by compromised neurosphere formation, downregulated stem cell markers, and increased neuronal differentiation. We generated Ttyh1 knockout mice by deleting its exon 4 using the CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Surprisingly, in contrast to a previous report, Ttyh1 knockout did not result in embryonic lethality. NSCs derived from Ttyh1 knockout mice phenocopied NSCs transfected with Ttyh1 siRNA. Immunofluorescence showed that loss of Ttyh1 leads to the increase of neurogenesis in adult mice. Taken together, these findings indicate that Ttyh1, which is likely downstream to Notch signaling, plays an important role in regulating NSCs.

The neural stem cell (NSC) niche in subventricular zone (SVZ) of adult mammalian brain contains dense vascular plexus, where endothelial cells (ECs) regulate NSCs by releasing plenty of angiocrine factors. However, the role of ECs-derived exosomes, a novel type of mediators of intercellular communications, in the regulation of NSCs remains unclear. In the current study, primary NSCs isolated from embryonic mouse brains form more neurospheres when cultured in the presence of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The supportive role of ECs in the coculture was significantly attenuated when GW4869, a blocker of exosome formation, was included, suggesting that HUVECs-derived exosomes played a significant role in supporting NSCs. In order to investigate the role of ECs-derived exosomes on NSCs, we collected exosomes from HUVECs. We found that HUVECs-derived exosomes could significantly promote the formation of neurospheres by primary murine NSCs. EdU incorporation and TUNEL assays indicated that the proliferation of NSCs increased while apoptosis decreased when cultured in the presence of HUVECs-derived exosomes. NSCs incubated with the HUVECs-derived exosomes maintained their potential of multi-lineage differentiation potentials. The expression of stemness-related genes was up-regulated. These data suggested that ECs-derived exosomes could play an importantly role in NSC niche, and they might be used as a reagent for ex vivo NSC amplification for medical application.

Chemokines and chemokine receptors play an important role in tumorigenesis. Angiogenesis is a vital part of the occurrence, development and metastasis of cancer. CCR6 is an important factor during tumor progression; however, its function in tumor angiogenesis is not fully understood. In our study, we found that CCR6 was significantly overexpressed in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues and predicted a poor prognosis in CRC patients. We then verified the function of CCR6 on tumor angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro. We observed that silencing CCR6 could decrease angiogenesis by inhibiting the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), whereas overexpression of CCR6 can promote angiogenesis. Additionally, we investigated the molecular mechanisms and demonstrated that activation of the AKT/NF-κB pathway maybe involved in CCR6-mediated tumor angiogenesis, which was able to promote the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). In conclusion, CCR6 facilitates tumor angiogenesis via the AKT/NF-κB/VEGF pathway in colorectal cancer. CCR6 inhibition may be a novel option for anti-vascular treatment in CRC.

BACKGROUND There is no adequate evidence on how the long duration of laparoscopic surgery affects splanchnic perfusion in elderly patients or the efficacy of acute hypervolemic fluid infusion (AHFI) during the induction of anesthesia. Our aim was to observe the effects of AHFI during the induction of general anesthesia on splanchnic perfusion. MATERIAL AND METHODS Seventy elderly patients receiving laparoscopic colorectal surgery were randomly divided into three groups: lactated Ringer's solution group (group R), succinylated gelatin group (group G), and hypertonic sodium chloride hydroxyethyl starch 40 injection group (group H). Thirty minutes after the induction of general anesthesia, patients received an infusion of target dose of these three solutions. Corresponding hemodynamic parameters, arterial blood gas analysis, and gastric mucosal carbon dioxide tension were monitored in sequences. RESULTS In all three groups, gastric-arterial partial CO2 pressure gaps (Pg-aCO2) were decreased at several beginning stages and then gradually increased, Pg-aCO2 also varied between groups due to certain time points. The pH values of gastric mucosa (pHi) decreased gradually after the induction of pneumoperitoneum in the three groups. CONCLUSIONS The AHFI of succinylated gelatin (12 ml/kg) during the induction of anesthesia can improve splanchnic perfusion in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and maintain good splanchnic perfusion even after a long period of pneumoperitoneum (60 minutes). AHFI can improve splanchnic perfusion in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

Ttyh1 is a murine homolog of the Drosophila Tweety and is predicted as a five-pass transmembrane protein. The Ttyh1 mRNA is expressed in mouse brain tissues with a restricted pattern and in human glioma cells. Ttyh1 protein may function as a large-conductance chloride channel, however, the role of Ttyh1 in normal neural development and tumorigenesis has been largely unknown, at least partially due to the lack of effective antibodies. Here we report the expression in E. coli and purification of two recombinant Ttyh1 protein fragments corresponding to one of the predicted extracellular domains and the carboxyl terminus of the mouse Ttyh1. With these Ttyh1 protein products, a set of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against the mouse Ttyh1 protein was established by using conventional hybridoma techniques. The specificity of the anti-Ttyh1 mAbs was determined based on their activities in Western blotting and immunofluorescent analysis using embryonic brain tissues and cultured mouse neural stem cells (NSCs). We also show that the mouse Ttyh1 protein was expressed in cultured NSCs, most likely in membrane and cytoplasm. In mouse embryonic brains, it appeared that the Ttyh1 protein was specifically expressed in the apical edge of the ventricular zone as puncta-like structures, as determined by using immunofluorescence. Taken together, our study provided a useful tool for further exploration of the biological functions and pathological significance of Ttyh1 in mice.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Accurate evaluation of liver fibrosis is crucial for predicting progression of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. We assessed the utility of a novel fibrosis glycobiomarker Wisteria floribunda agglutinin-positive Mac-2-binding protein (WFA+ -M2BP) for evaluating liver fibrosis and disease progression in patients with chronic HBV infection. METHODS: We enrolled 774 patients with chronic HBV infection, with or without fibrosis, diagnosed by liver biopsy/FibroScan. Patients who underwent liver biopsy (n = 297) were divided into training (n = 221) and validation (n = 76) groups. Serum WFA+ -M2BP values were measured and compared with FIB-4 index, aspartate aminotransferase (AST)-to-platelet ratio (APRI) and AST-to-alanine aminotransferase ratio (AAR) using receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. RESULTS: Serum WFA+ -M2BP levels increased significantly with fibrosis progression (P < 0.0001). Area under the ROC curve of WFA+ -M2BP for diagnosing significant fibrosis was higher than that of FIB-4 (P = 0.198), APRI (P = 0.017) and AAR (P < 0.001), with sensitivity and specificity in the training set of 60.5% and 79.8% and validation set of 59.5% and 82.1%, respectively. Serum WFA+ -M2BP levels were significantly correlated with FibroScan values (P < 0.0001) and improved the accuracy of FibroScan in assessing significant fibrosis. Changes in WFA+ -M2BP levels were parallel with those in FibroScan values during nucleot(s)ide analogues therapy in patients with chronic HBV infection. CONCLUSIONS: WFA+ -M2BP is an accurate serum indicator for assessing early stages of liver fibrosis and may monitor regression of fibrosis during the treatment of chronic HBV infection. WFA+ -M2BP provides a simple and reliable alternative or complementary method to liver biopsy and FibroScan.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety and feasibility of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in the distal gastrectomy with D2 dissection for gastric cancer. We also summarized the preliminary experience of totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was done in 51 cases of total laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in the distant gastrectomy with D2 dissection for gastric cancer in our hospital from September 2014 to December 2015. RESULTS: All of 51 cases underwent total laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis. All the procedures were performed successfully. There were neither conversions to open surgery nor intraoperative complications in all 51 cases. In this study, the median operative time was 170 (135-210) min and the median time of anastomosis was 27 (24-41) min. The blood loss was 60 (30-110) ml. The time to flatus and length of postoperative hospital stay were 2 (1-3) days, and 8 (7-12) days, respectively. The mean lymph node harvest was 34 (18-49). One anastomotic bleeding occurred postoperatively which was cured by conservative treatment. No major postoperative complication occurred, such as anastomotic leak, anastomotic stenosis, and Roux stasis syndrome. After a short-term follow-up, no recanalization or reflux gastritis was encountered by endoscopy. CONCLUSION: The totally laparoscopic uncut Roux-en-Y anastomosis in distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection for gastric cancer is safe and feasible, with a very low rate of recanalization and reflux gastritis.

BACKGROUND: Reactive astrogliosis is a remarkable pathogenetic hallmark of the brains of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, but its progressive fate and regulation mechanisms are poorly understood. In this study, growth arrest specific 1 (Gas1), a tumor growth suppressor oncogene, was identified as a novel modulator of the cell apoptosis of reactive astrocytes in primary culture and the injured substantia nigra. METHODS: Animal models and cell cultures were utilized in the present study. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- and 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-treated animal models were used to detect Gas1 expression in the brain via immunohistochemistry and western blot. Cell cultures were performed to analyze Gas1 functions in the viability and apoptosis of reactive astrocytes and SH-SY5Y cells by double labeling, CCK-8, LDH, TUNEL, flow cytometry, and siRNA knockdown methods. RESULTS: Gas1 expressions were significantly elevated in the majority of the reactive astrocytes of the brains with LPS or MPTP insults. In the injured substantia nigras, GFAP-positive astrocytes exhibited higher levels of cleaved caspase-3. In cell culture, the up-regulated Gas1 expression induced apoptosis of reactive astrocytes that were insulted by LPS in combination with interferon-γ and tumor necrosis factor-a. This effect was confirmed through siRNA knockdown of Gas1 gene expression. Finally and interestingly, the potential underlying signaling pathways were evidently related to an increase in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, the abundant generation of reactive oxygen species and the activation of cleaved caspase-3. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that the up-regulation of inducible Gas1 contributed to the apoptosis of reactive astrocytes in the injured nigra. Gas1 signaling may function as a novel regulator of astrogliosis and is thus a potential intervention target for inflammatory events in PD conditions.

INTRODUCTION: Single port laparoscopy (SPL) and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) are next-generation minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures which could further reduce patient trauma. Robotic assistance shows great potential in providing augmented motion precision and manipulation dexterity. This article reviews the robotic systems recently developed for SPL and NOTES. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A literature search was conducted based on Science Citation Index, Engineering Index, Medline, and PubMed databases. RESULTS: Eleven robotic systems for SPL and six robotic systems for NOTES were identified. Structures and performances of these systems were reported. Special attention was directed to the systems using continuum mechanisms. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Regarding the structure aspect, the reviewed systems for SPL and NOTES all deploy a vision unit and at least two manipulation arms for surgical interventions through an access channel. To date, the smallest diameter of such a channel is 12 mm. Regarding the functionality aspect, only a few systems demonstrated results promising enough for animal or clinical studies in the near future. Surgical robots using dual continuum mechanisms achieved both design compactness and functional versatility. The characteristics suggest that the use of continuum mechanisms is worth exploring through future developments of surgical robots.

The locus coeruleus (LC) is the main source of noradrenaline in the brain and is implicated in a broad spectrum of physiological and behavioral processes. However, genetic pathways controlling the development of noradrenergic neurons in the mammalian brain are largely unknown. We report here that Rbpj, a key nuclear effector in the Notch signaling pathway, plays an essential role in LC neuron development in the mouse. Conditional inactivation of Rbpj in the dorsal rhombomere (r) 1, where LC neurons are born, resulted in a dramatic increase in the number of Phox2a- and Phox2b-expressing early-differentiating LC neurons, and dopamine-ß-hydroxylase- and tyrosine-hydroxylase-expressing late-differentiating LC neurons. In contrast, other neuronal populations derived from the dorsal r1 were either reduced or unchanged. In addition, a drastic upregulation of Ascl1, an essential factor for noradrenergic neurogenesis, was observed in dorsal r1 of conditional knockout mice. Through genomic sequence analysis and EMSA and ChIP assays, a conserved Rbpj-binding motif was identified within the Ascl1 promoter. A luciferase reporter assay revealed that Rbpj per se could induce Ascl1 transactivation but this effect was counteracted by its downstream-targeted gene Hes1. Moreover, our in vitro gene transfection and in ovo electroporation assays showed that Rbpj upregulated Ascl1 expression when Hes1 expression was knocked down, although it also exerted a repressive effect on Ascl1 expression in the presence of Hes1. Thus, our results provide the first evidence that Rbpj functions as a key modulator of LC neuron development by regulating Ascl1 expression directly, and indirectly through its target gene Hes1.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibilities between operational approaches for laparoscopic complete mesocolic excision (CME) to right hemicolon cancer. METHODS: This prospective randomized controlled trial included patients admitted to a Shanghai minimally invasive surgical center to receive laparoscopic CME from September 2011 to January 2013 randomized into two groups: hybrid medial approach (HMA) and completely medial approach (CMA). The feasibilities and strategies of the two techniques were studied and compared. Furthermore, the operation time and vessel-related complications were designed to be the primary end points, and other operational findings, including the classification of the surgical plane and postoperative recovery, were designed to be the secondary end points for this study. RESULTS: After screening, 50 cases were allocated to the HMA group and 49 to the CMA group. Within the HMA group, there were 48 cases graded with mesocolic plane and 2 with intramesocolic plane. For the CMA group, there were 42 cases graded with mesocolic plane and seven with intramesocolic plane. The differences between the two were insignificant, as were the number of lymph nodes retrieved. The mean±standard deviation total operation time for the CMA group was 128.3 ± 36.4 min, which was significantly shorter than that for the HMA group, 142.6 ± 34.8 min. For the CMA group, the time involved in central vessel ligations and laparoscopic procedures was 58.5 %, 14.1 and 81.2 ± 23.5 min, respectively, which were shorter than the HMA group. The vessel-related complication rate was significantly higher in the HMA group. CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic CME via the total medial approach is technically feasible after the precise identification of the surgical planes and spaces for the right hemicolon. The procedure has a shorter operation time and fewer vessel-related complications.
