OBJECTIVE: To determine the risk factors and levels of burnout in Primary Care nurses. METHODS: A systematic review was performed. DATA SOURCES: CINAHL, CUIDEN, LILACS, PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect and Scopus databases were consulted. Search equations were 'burnout AND community health nursing' and 'burnout AND primary care nursing'. The search was performed in October 2015. STUDY SELECTION: The final sample was n=12 studies. Quantitative primary studies that used Maslach Burnout Inventory for burnout assessment in Primary Care nurses were included without restriction by publication date. DATA EXTRACTION: The main variables were the mean and standard deviation of the three burnout dimensions, high, medium and low prevalence rates of each dimension, and socio-demographic, occupational and psychological variables that potentially influence burnout level. RESULTS: Studies show high prevalence rates, generally between 23% and 31%, of emotional exhaustion. The prevalence rates of high depersonalisation and low personal accomplishment show heterogeneity, varying between 8%-32% and 4%-92% of the sample, respectively. Studies show that older nurses with more seniority, anxiety and depression, among other variables, have higher burnout levels, while nurses with higher salary, high job satisfaction, organisational support, and good self-concept have less burnout. CONCLUSION: High emotional exhaustion is the main affected dimension of burnout in Primary Care nursing. There is heterogeneity in depersonalisation and personal accomplishment. Burnout must be prevented in these professionals, by increasing protective factors and monitoring its appearance in those with risk factors.

OBJECTIVE: To study the influence of a short programme of stretching exercises on anxiety levels of workers in a Spanish logistic company. METHOD: A controlled clinical trial was carried out by means of an inter-subject design of random homogeneous blocks. Participants were assigned to the experimental group (n=67), treated with a programme of stretching exercises of 10-minute duration after working hours for a period of 3 months, or to the untreated control group (n=67). The primary result variable was anxiety, and the secondary variables were burnout syndrome, quality of life and flexibility. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) by intention to treat was performed on each of the result variables by controlling the baseline scores, the age and the practice of introjective activities outside the program, with the size effect calculated by means of the partial eta-squared value (η(2)). RESULTS: The results of the ANCOVA showed a moderate effect of the stretching exercise programme on the levels of anxiety (η(2)=0,06; P=.004). Other effects found were substantial for flexibility (η(2)=0,13; P<.001); moderately high for bodily pain (η(2)=0,08; P=.001), and moderate for vitality (η(2)=0,05; P=.016); mental health (η(2)=0,05; P=.017); general health (η(2)=0,04; P=.028) and exhaustion (η(2)=0,04; P=.025). CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of a short programme of stretching exercises in the work place was effective for reducing levels of anxiety, bodily pain and exhaustion, and for raising levels of vitality, mental health, general health and flexibility. This type of intervention could be seen as a low-cost strategy for improving the well-being of workers.

BACKGROUND: burnout syndrome is a state of physical and emotional exhaustion that can occur among workers who interact directly with others. This could affect job performance. The objective was to determine the prevalence of this syndrome and its associated factors among family physicians. METHODS: a cross-sectional survey applying the Maslach Burnout Inventory was conducted in a selected convenience non-probability sampling of family physicians. Central tendency and dispersion measures were used in determining the prevalence of burnout syndrome; the associated factors were analysed by χ(2) test. RESULTS: there were 59 cases of burnout syndrome, 36 had involvement in a single component, 15 in 2 and 8 were affected in 3 components; we observed that 35 % of positive cases reported doing an average of 10 extra shifts a month (p = 0.013). Having a second job was associated with positive cases of burnout syndrome. CONCLUSIONS: the results are consistent with similar studies. Working extra shifts or having a second job were the related factors most associated to this syndrome.


Introducción: el síndrome de agotamiento profesional es un estado de agotamiento físico y emocional que puede presentarse en trabajadores que interactúan con otras personas. El objetivo de esta investigación fue conocer la prevalencia de este síndrome y los factores relacionados en médicos familiares de Mérida, Yucatán, México. Métodos: se realizó una encuesta transversal en la que se aplicó el Maslach Burnout Inventory a médicos familiares seleccionados mediante muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. Se analizaron las medidas de tendencia central y dispersión y se determinó la prevalencia del síndrome de agotamiento profesional. La significación estadística de los factores asociados se determinó mediante χ2. Resultados: se obtuvieron 59 casos de síndrome de agotamiento profesional: 36 con afectación en un componente del Maslach Burnout Inventory, 15 en dos y ocho en los tres. El 35 % de los casos indicó trabajar en promedio 10 turnos extra al mes (p = 0.013); tener un segundo trabajo también se relacionó con el síndrome. Conclusiones: los resultados son consistentes con los obtenidos en estudios similares. Trabajar turnos extra o tener otro trabajo fueron los factores relacionados con el síndrome de agotamiento profesional.

OBJECTIVE: Determine the quality of working life among the different pediatric nursing professionals, taking into account socio-demographic and work context factors, and the relationship of Burnout, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue between different job positions. METHOD: Cross-sectional descriptive observational study carried out between January-March 2019 at the national territory. The professional quality of life was measured with ProQOL IV and sociodemographic characteristics were recorded. The data was encoded in Microsoft Office Excel, and analyzed with SPPS considering statistically significant differences p < 0.05. RESULTS: A total of 68 nurses were included in the study. The results obtained show less satisfaction due to compassion in those professionals who have a permanent employment contract, as well as those who carry out their work in hospitalization positions compared to those in the oncology area. In our sample there are very high levels of compassion fatigue, in addition we observed a significant relationship between compassion fatigue and religious belief, being higher in believing professionals. CONCLUSIONS: It's necessary to identify associated factors in the professional quality of life to propose intervention strategies and improvement conditions, requiring greater involvement of health institutions to improve the professional quality of life in pediatric nursing.

PURPOSE: Burnout syndrome among intensive care professionals has been widely documented internationally. Few studies address the incidence and prevalence in Latin America. And there are no validated studies about the situation in Argentina. Our goal was to determine burnout prevalence among intensive care nurses in Argentina and related risk factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Online self-administered survey evaluating demographic variables and the Maslach Burnout Inventory in 486 critical care nurses between June and September 2016. RESULTS: A percentage of 84.4 of participants show moderate or high levels of burnout syndrome (95% CI 80.8 to 87.4). No significant association was found between burnout and gender, age, years of practice, academic degree, role or multiplicity of jobs. There was no statistical difference in burnout prevalence among different types of populations of care (neonatal, paediatric or adult care). Nurse to patient ratios of 1:3 or higher was found to be a statistically significant risk factor for emotional exhaustion and depersonalization sub-scales (P=.002 and .0039, respectively). CONCLUSION: More than 80% of nurses caring for critically ill patients in Argentina show moderate or high levels of burnout syndrome and this is related to a high nurse:patient ratio (1:3 or higher).

RESUMEN Introducción: el clima educacional (CE) de posgrado en el ambiente hospitalario puede determinar la manera en como los médicos residentes (MR) se adaptan a su nueva etapa, durante el cual el sindrome agotamiento profesional (SAP) es altamente probable de producirse en algún momento. Objetivo: determinar la relación entre el clima educacional y el agotamiento profesional en médicos de los programas de residencias médicas del Hospital Nacional 2023-2024. Metodología: estudio observacional transversal de una muestra por conveniencia de MR de ambos sexos de todas las especialidades médicas del Hospital Nacional entre noviembre 2023 y enero 2024, se excluyeron MR con rotación externa y/o vacaciones. Calculo muestral; 136 MR. Se envió un formulario en línea de Google al correo electrónico del MR solicitando la participación voluntaria. El SAP fue medido con el método estándar Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) con subescalas; agotamiento emocional (AE), despersonalización (DESP), realización personal (RP), existiendo SAP con puntuaciones altas de AE, DESP y bajas de RP. El CE fue valorado con la medida del entorno educativo de posgrado hospitalario (PHEEM) con subescalas; percepción autonomía de roles (PAR), percepción enseñanza (PE), percepción soporte social (PSS), a mayor puntaje mejor CE. Se recopiló variables demográficos, académicos, puntajes del MBI y PHEEM, el SAP fue considerado dependiente, como resultado principal la relación predictiva del PHEEM sobre el SAP. Se compararon datos con χ², prueba t o U de Mann-Whitney, ANOVA y regresión lineal (p-valor significativo =<0,05). Resultados: de 233 participantes, la edad media fue de 28,75 (± 2,20), el 63,94 % (149) mujeres, la prevalencia general del SAP; 70,38 % (164/233), SAP en hombres 75 % (63/84) y mujeres 67,78 % (101/149) p=0,0014, los 2 primeros años con mayor frecuencia de SAP; 65 (85,52 %), 59 (86,76 %) repectivamente p=0,0009, de especialidades quirúrgicas 63 (90 %) p=0,0071. Las subescalas del MBI el AE;79,82 % (186) con un promedio de 35,39 (± 11,61) puntos. El PHEEM de los MR con SAP; 107,9( 19,6) puntos y sin SAP; 136,3( 12,1) puntos IC 95 % 18,1­25,0 p= 0,0001. El PHEEM predijo el AE con R2=0,619, PPS; B= -0,18 (±0,009) p=0,001, y la DESP; R2= 0,385, PPS; B= -0,001 (±0,004) p=0,009 siendo PSS predictor significativo con correlación inversa en ambas. Conclusión: existe relación inversa entre el clima educativo y el sindrome de agotamiento profesional en la población estudiada, con alta prevalencia de este en residentes hombres de especialidades quirúrgicas, siendo el soporte social del ambiente educativo hospitalario un predictor significativo para el desarrollo del sindrome de agotamiento profesional.


ABSTRACT Introduction: the postgraduate educational climate (CE) in the hospital environment can determine the way in which resident physicians (MRs) adapt to their new stage, during which professional burnout syndrome (PAS) is highly likely to occur at some point. Objective: to determine the relationship between the educational climate and professional burnout in physicians in the medical residency programs of the National Hospital 2023-2024. Methodology: cross-sectional observational study of a sample of MR convenience of both sexes from all medical specialties of the National Hospital between November 2023 and January 2024, MR with external rotation and/or vacations were excluded. Sample calculation; 136 MR. An online form from Google was sent to the MR email requesting voluntary participation. The SAP was measured with the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) method with subscales; emotional exhaustion (EA), depersonalization (DESP), personal fulfillment (PR), with PAS with high scores of AE, DESP and low RP. The EC was assessed with the measure of the hospital postgraduate educational environment (PHEEM) with subscales; perception of role autonomy (PAR), perception of teaching (PE), perception of social support (PSS), the higher the score, the better the EC. Demographic and academic variables, MBI and PHEEM scores were collected, and the SAP was considered dependent, as the main result was the predictive relationship of the PHEEM on the SAP. Data were compared with χ², t-test or Mann-Whitney U, ANOVA and linear regression (p-significant value =<0.05). Results: of 233 participants, the mean age was 28.75 (±2.20), 63.94 % (149) women, the general prevalence of PAS; 70.38 % (164/233), PAS in men 75 % (63/84) and women 67.78 % (101/149) p=0.0014, the first 2 years with the highest frequency of PAS; 65 (85.52 %), 59 (86.76 %) respectively p=0.0009, 63 (90 %) p=0.0071 surgical specialties. The subscales of the MBI, the AE; 79.82 % (186) with an average of 35.39 (± 11.61) points. The CE of MRs with SAP; 107.9 (19.6) dots and without PAS; 136.3 (12.1) dots 95 % CI 18.1­25.0 p= 0.0001. The PHEEM predicted the AE with R2=0.619, B= -0.18 (±0.009) p=0.001, and the DESP; R2= 0.385, B= -0.001(0.004) p=0.009, PSS being a significant predictor with inverse correlation in both. Conclusion: there is an inverse relationship between the educational climate and burnout syndrome in the population studied, with a high prevalence of burnout in male residents of surgical specialties, with the social support of the hospital educational environment being a significant predictor for the development of burnout syndrome.

Objetivo: determinar la huella psicosocial de la pandemia por COVID-19 en enfermeras de 4 países de Sudamérica, año 2021-2022. Métodos: estudio de corte transversal, en una muestra de 279 enfermeras: colombianas (86), paraguayas (68), mexicanas (54) y chilenas (71), que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión.Se aplicaron las escalas de Duke-UNC para evaluar apoyo social recibido y confidencial; El cuestionario Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS) para evaluar apoyo social y el cuestionario de variables de interacción psicosocial (VIP) Resultados: tanto el buen apoyo confidencial como afectivo, se asoció con las variables de vivir con dos o más personas, ser perteneciente a una religión, y trabajar en una unidad con pacientes. El consumo de medicamentos fue significativamente menor en el grupo con buen apoyo confidencial y afectivo, (p=0.012) Conclusiones:la ejecución del rol profesional de la enfermera es conocido como de alta calidad, y con una destacada responsabilidad, especialmente en pandemia por SAR COVID 19. Sin embargo, se aprecian huellas residuales físicas y emocionales en los profesionales de enfermería.


Objective: to determine the psychosocial footprint of the COVID-19 pandemic in nurses from 4 South American countries, 2021-2022. Methods: cross-sectional study, in a sample of 279 nurses: Colombian (86), Paraguayan (68), Mexican (54) and Chilean (71), who met the inclusion criteria. Duke-UNC scales were applied to assess received and confidential social support; The Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS) questionnaire to assess social support and the psychosocial interaction variables (VIP) questionnaire. Results: both good confidential and affective support were associated with the variables of living with two or more people, belonging to a religion, and working in a unit with patients. Medication consumption was significantly lower in the group with good confidential and affective support, (p=0.012). Conclusions: the execution of the professional role of the nurse is known to be of high quality, and with outstanding responsibility, especially in the SAR pandemic. COVID 19. However, residual physical and emotional traces can be seen in nursing professionals.


Objetivo determinar a pegada psicossocial da pandemia de COVID-19 em enfermeiros de 4 países da América do Sul, 2021-2022. Métodos: estudo transversal, em uma amostra de 279 enfermeiras: colombianas (86), paraguaias (68), mexicanas (54) e chilenas (71), que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. As escalas de Duke-UNC foram aplicadas para avaliar o suporte social recebido e confidencial; o questionário Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS) para avaliar o apoio social e o questionário de variáveis de interação psicossocial (VIP). Resultados: tanto o bom apoio confidencial quanto o afetivo estiveram associados às variáveis morar com duas ou mais pessoas, pertencer a uma religião e trabalhar em unidade com pacientes. O consumo de medicamentos foi significativamente menor no grupo com bom apoio confidencial e afetivo, (p=0,012). Conclusões: sabe-se que o desempenho da função profissional do enfermeiro é de alta qualidade, e com destacada responsabilidade, principalmente na pandemia SAR COVID 19. No entanto, traços residuais físicos e emocionais podem ser observados nos profissionais de enfermagem.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the variables related to the quality of work life and the self-care of nursing professionals working with high emotional demand. METHOD: Qualitative, according to the constructivist paradigm. It combines the phenomenological-hermeneutic/interpretative method with the use of semi-structured interviews. Information was analyzed with Maxqda 11. Interviews included professionals from the Valencian healthcare system, with typical profiles of nurses working in surgical units, emergencies, oncology, home care, and cooperation. RESULTS: Organizational factors were reported as a barrier to self-care, affecting healthcare activity. Working with patients was highlighted as a protective factor, based on the satisfaction derived from helping in situations of serious illness and suffering. The quality of work life manifested was assessed as not being what they would desire and deficient. The factors that affected the professionals most were the type of working day and work schedules (shifts, nights, holidays, on call...). The physical, mental and social dimensions of self-care can attenuate the negative effects of this situation. CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary to examine in depth the construct of self-care, to counteract emotionally stressful problems and situations, to propose intervention strategies, training plans and greater involvement of health institutions in the improvement of nurses' quality of work life.

A pandemia de covid-19 impactou profundamente a saúde pública e a área da educação do ensino superior, o que refletiu em inovações e desafios para as docentes do ensino superior da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. O objetivo deste estudo foi contribuir para o debate acerca dos reflexos da pandemia no trabalho e na vida das docentes da Universidade. Utilizou-se a pesquisa qualitativa e adotou-se a entrevista semiestruturada realizada com 36 docentes do sexo feminino das unidades vinculadas ao Centro de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas da instituição. As entrevistas foram realizadas e gravadas por meio da plataforma Zoom, e para a análise utilizou-se o método de interpretação de sentidos. Os resultados apontaram que no contexto pandêmico novas exigências foram postas à profissão, com a implantação do ensino remoto emergencial. Esse novo cenário provocou desgaste emocional, expresso por sensações de cansaço, impotência, sobrecarga de trabalho, adoecimento e dificuldades de relacionamento com os alunos. A pandemia apontou a sobrecarga de trabalho como fator de risco para o adoecimento das docentes da Universidade, por envolver questões como as desigualdades de gênero, conciliação das esferas pública e privada, excesso de trabalho e ausência de políticas institucionais voltadas para as mulheres no contexto pandêmico.


The COVID-19 pandemic had profound impacts on public health and on higher education, which reflected in innovations and challenges for professors at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), especially female ones who had to adapt to multiple work routines and lockdown policies. This qualitative study sought to contribute to the debate about the pandemic effects on the work and lives of UFRJ professors. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews conducted with 36 female professors from units linked to the Philosophy and Human Sciences Center (CFCH). All interviews were conducted and recorded through the Zoom platform. Qualitative data analysis was performed using the interpretation of meanings. Results pointed out that new demands were placed on the profession during the pandemic with the implementation of Emergency Remote Teaching. This new scenario caused great emotional distress, expressed by feelings of tiredness, impotence, work overload, illness and relation difficulties with students. The pandemic revealed that work overload has acted as a risk factor for illness among higher education professors at UFRJ, as it involves issues such as gender inequalities, conciliation of the public and private spheres, overwork and absence of institutional policies aimed at women in the pandemic context.


La pandemia del COVID-19 generó profundos impactos en la salud pública y en el área de la educación superior, lo que resultó en innovaciones y desafíos para los profesores de educación superior de la Universidad Federal do Rio de Janeiro. El objetivo de este estudio fue contribuir al debate sobre los efectos de la pandemia en el trabajo y la vida de los docentes de la Universidad. Se utilizó una investigación cualitativa y se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a 36 profesoras de unidades vinculadas al Centro de Filosofía y Ciencias Humanas de la Universidad. Las entrevistas se realizaron y se grabaron en la plataforma Zoom, y para el análisis se utilizó el método de interpretación de significado. Los resultados señalaron que en el contexto de pandemia se impusieron nuevas exigencias a la profesión, con la implementación de la enseñanza remota de emergencia. Este nuevo escenario provocó agotamiento emocional, expresado por sentimientos de cansancio, impotencia, sobrecarga de trabajo, enfermedad y dificultades para relacionarse con los estudiantes. La pandemia reveló la sobrecarga de trabajo como factor de riesgo para la enfermedad de docentes de la Universidad, ya que involucra cuestiones como desigualdades de género, conciliación de las esfera pública y privada, exceso de trabajo y falta de políticas institucionales dirigidas a las mujeres en el contexto pandémico.

Introducción. El efecto de las políticas para el mejoramiento del bienestar de los residentes, en términos de desgaste profesional y compromiso laboral, es controversial y su resultado tras la implementación de la "ley de residentes" (1917/2018) en Colombia es desconocido. Este estudio explora el efecto de esta ley en médicos residentes de cirugía colombianos. Métodos. Estudio de métodos mixtos secuencial explicativo. Inicialmente, se invitó a todos los residentes de cirugía del país a autodiligenciar los cuestionarios UWES-17 y MBI-HSS para evaluar el compromiso laboral (vigor, dedicación y absorción) y desgaste profesional (agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y baja realización personal) antes (2019) y después (2022) de la implementación de la ley. Se probaron diferentes hipótesis mediante modelos de ecuaciones estructurales. Los resultados fueron explorados con cirujanos mediante grupos focales. La información cualitativa fue analizada manualmente y por inteligencia artificial, y reportada en temas principales. Resultados. Participaron en el estudio 400 residentes. La tasa de desgaste profesional fue de 24,8 % antes y 15,8 % después (p=0,032). El análisis de ecuaciones estructurales confirmó que el agotamiento emocional sobre el desgaste profesional fue menor en 2022 (p=0,022). No se identificaron cambios significativos en el compromiso laboral. La principal explicación fue atribuida a los beneficios económicos de la ley. Conclusión. La tasa de desgaste profesional en médicos residentes de cirugía colombianos se redujo significativamente tras la implementación de la "ley de residentes". Estos hallazgos tienen implicaciones para la practica y el mejoramiento de la calidad de la educación.


Introduction. The effect of policies to improve residents' well-being, in terms of professional burnout and work commitment is controversial, and its result after the implementation of the "residents' law" (1917/2018) in Colombia is unknown. This study explores the effect of this law on Colombian surgical residents. Methods. Explanatory sequential mixed methods study. Initially, all surgical residents in the country were invited to self-complete the UWES-17 and MBI-HSS questionnaires to evaluate work commitment (vigor, dedication, and absorption) and professional burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment) before (2019) and after (2022) the implementation of the law. Different hypotheses were tested using structural equation models. The results were explored with surgeons through focus groups. Qualitative information was analyzed manually and by artificial intelligence, and reported into main themes. Results. 400 residents participated in the study. Burnout rates were 24.8% before and 15.8% after (p=0.032). The structural equations analysis confirmed that emotional exhaustion over professional burnout was lower in 2022 (p=0.022). No significant changes in work commitment were identified. The main explanation was attributed to the economic benefits of the law. Conclusion. The burnout rate in Colombian surgical residents was significantly reduced after the implementation of the "residents' law". These findings have implications for practice and improving the quality of education

Introducción: El síndrome de Burnout gana atención de investigadores y profesionales, en particular en el área de la salud, por las consecuencias e implicaciones que puede generar en los profesionales afectados por la enfermedad, lo que puede comprometer la seguridad del paciente y la calidad del servicio ofrecido. Objetivo: Caracterizar la producción científica sobre estrategias e intervenciones para reducir el riesgo del síndrome de Burnout entre los profesionales de enfermería. Métodos: Análisis bibliométrico de las publicaciones hasta el 2021 en las bases de datos PubMed, Scopus y Web of Science. Los análisis se desarrollaron con el apoyo del bibliometrix R-package. El estudio recuperó 70 publicaciones. Conclusiones: El análisis de los trabajos más citados reveló estrategias psicoeducativas, psicosociales y de yoga para el autocuidado. Entre los temas de tendencia de investigación, el más destacado fue el término Mindfulness, lo que muestra un aumento en las investigaciones que aplicaron esta intervención para reducir el Burnout. El número de estudios producidos es incipiente. Sin embargo, con la inclusión del Burnout en la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades, se espera un aumento de las publicaciones y del interés de las organizaciones en implementar estrategias para promover la salud y el bienestar entre los profesionales(AU)


Introduction: Burnout syndrome gains attention from researchers and professionals, particularly in the health area, due to the consequences and implications that it can lead to in professionals affected by the disease, which can compromise patient safety and the quality of offered care. Objective: To characterize the scientific production about strategies and interventions for reducing the risk of Burnout syndrome among nursing professionals. Methods: A bibliometric analysis was performed of publications until 2021 in the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases. The analyzes were developed with the support of the bibliometrix R-package. The study recovered 70 publications. Conclusions: The analysis of the most cited works revealed psychoeducational, psychosocial and yoga strategies for self-care. Among the research trend topics, the most prominent was the term mindfulness, a fact showing an increase in research that applied this intervention to reduce burnout. The number of studies produced is incipient. However, with the inclusion of burnout within the International Classification of Diseases, an increase is expected in the number of publications, as well as in the interest of organizations in implementing strategies to promote health and well-being among professionals(AU)

A síndrome do burnout é composta por sintomas de exaustão emocional, despersonalização e redução do sentimento de conquista, estando relacionada a trabalho estressante. Médicos residentes e preceptores estão em alto risco para o surgimento do . O objetivo deste trabalho foi a revisão de estratégias institucionais e individuais para o enfrentamento do burnout por essa população. Trata-se de revisão integrativa, com coleta de dados por meio da base de dados Pubmed. Dentre as estratégias organizacionais, destacam-se a modificação dos processos de trabalho, organização das demandas dos profissionais, melhoria da comunicação, incentivo à capacitação profissional, e organização de serviços de atendimento para prevenção e manejo do burnout. Do ponto de vista individual, destacam-se os hábitos saudáveis, busca espiritual, dedicação a hobbies, meditação e coping. O burnout é um problema de saúde psíquica emergente em residentes e preceptores, sendo necessário que instituições e profissionais sejam ativos no diagnóstico e enfrentamento desse agravo


Burnout syndrome comprises symptoms of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a diminished sense of achievement, associated with stressful work environments. Medical residents and preceptors are at a high risk for the emergence of burnout. This study aimed to review institutional and individual strategies for addressing burnout in this population. It is an integrative review, with data collected from the PubMed database. Among organizational strategies, emphasis is placed on modifying work processes, organizing professional demands, improving communication, encouraging professional development, and establishing support services to prevent and manage burnout. From an individual perspective, healthy habits, spiritual pursuits, dedication to hobbies, meditation, and coping are highlighted. Burnout is an emerging mental health issue in residents and preceptors, necessitating the active involvement of institutions and professionals in the diagnosis and management of this condition.


El síndrome de burnout está compuesto por agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y disminución del sentido de logro, asociado a entornos laborales estresantes. Los médicos residentes y preceptores tienen un alto riesgo de desarrollar burnout. El objetivo de este estudio fue revisar estrategias institucionales e individuales para abordar el burnout en esta población. Se trata de una revisión integradora, con datos recopilados de la base de datos PubMed. Entre las estrategias organizativas, se destaca la modificación de procesos de trabajo, organización de demandas profesionales, mejora de la comunicación, estímulo al desarrollo profesional y establecimiento de servicios para la prevención y el manejo del burnout. Desde una perspectiva individual, se resaltan hábitos saludables, búsqueda espiritual, dedicación a pasatiempos, meditación y el afrontamiento. El burnout es un problema de salud mental emergente en residentes y preceptores, lo que requiere la participación activa de instituciones y profesionales en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de esta condición.

Objetivos: avaliar os fatores geradores do estresse ocupacional dos enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem atuantes no cuidado direto aos pacientes acometidos pela COVID-19, durante a pandemia, e verificar sua relação com estratégias de coping adotadas pela equipe de enfermagem. Métodos: estudo transversal analítico, realizado em um hospital no interior do estado de São Paulo. A amostra de conveniência (n = 112) foi constituída por profissionais de enfermagem que responderam ao Inventário de Estresse de Enfermeiros e Inventário de Respostas de Coping no Trabalho. Para as análises inferenciais foram utilizados os testes Qui-quadrado ou Exato de Fisher, o teste de Mann-Whitney e o teste de Spearman (p < 0,05). Resultados: verificou-se elevado nível de estresse ocupacional em enfermeiros (M = 106,0; DP ± 23,1) e técnicos de enfermagem (M = 98,5; DP ± 25,1), com maior pontuação de enfermeiros para fatores intrínsecos ao trabalho, em comparação com técnicos de enfermagem. As relações interpessoais foram a principal fonte de estresse. As estratégias de coping com maiores médias foram as respostas de enfrentamento tanto para enfermeiros (M = 43,2; DP ± 8,5) quanto para os técnicos de enfermagem (M = 41,4; DP ± 9,1). Conclusões: a identificação dos fatores de estresse ocupacional e das estratégias de coping, bem como, suas repercussões no contexto laboral trouxeram contribuições importantes para entender a realidade contextual.


Objectives: to assess the factors that generate occupational stress among nurses and nursing technicians working in direct care for patients affected by COVID-19 during the pandemic and verify their relationship with coping strategies adopted by the nursing staff. Methods: an analytical cross-sectional study, carried out at a hospital in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. The convenience sample (n = 112) consisted of nursing professionals who answered the Nurses' Stress Inventory and the Coping Responses Inventory for Working Settings. For inferential analyses, chi-square test or Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney test and Spearman test were used (p < 0.05). Results: there was a high level of occupational stress in nurses (M = 106.0; SD ± 23.1) and nursing technicians (M = 98.5; SD ± 25.1), with higher scores among nurses for factors intrinsic to work compared to nursing technicians. Interpersonal relationships were the main source of stress. The coping strategies with the highest means were coping responses for both nurses (M = 43.2; SD ± 8.5) and nursing technicians (M = 41.4; SD ± 9.1). Conclusions: the identification of occupational stress factors and coping strategies and their repercussions at work brought important contributions to understanding the contextual reality.

Conclusiones: la identificación de factores de estrés ocupacional y estrategias de afrontamiento, así como sus repercusiones en el contexto laboral, trajeron importantes aportes para la comprensión de la realidad contextual.

Objetivo: Evaluar la asociación entre la exposición a hostigamiento laboral y la presencia de síndrome de burnout en el personal sanitario de un hospital de referencia peruano. Materiales y métodos: Estudio transversal, analítico. Se incluyó a médicos internistas, cirujanos, enfermeras, residentes, internos de medicina y técnicos de enfermería de los departamentos de Medicina y Cirugía del Hospital Nacional Hipólito Unanue en Lima, Perú. Se usaron los cuestionarios Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) y Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R) para la detección de burnout y hostigamiento, respectivamente. Adicionalmente, se evaluó la asociación con la edad, género, ocupación, estado civil, lugar de trabajo, conformidad con salario, carga familiar, actividad física, hábitos nocivos, vacaciones, afiliación religiosa, número de trabajos, remuneración mensual, tiempo de trabajo, horas laborales por semana, número de pacientes atendidos por día, guardias semanales y horas de descanso. El análisis multivariado se realizó mediante el uso de un modelo de regresión logística múltiple, para lo cual se utilizó como variable respuesta la presencia o no de burnout. Resultados: Se incluyeron a 206 participantes. De ellos, 22 (10,7 %) presentaron burnout y 27 (14 %), hostigamiento moderado a elevado. En el análisis bivariado, la edad (OR 0,94; IC 95 % 0,89-0,99; p = 0,02), el estado civil casados y convivientes (OR 2,85; IC 95 % 1,01-8,06; p = 0,04) y el hostigamiento (OR 5,20; IC 95 % 1,92-14,09; p = 0,009) se asociaron a la presencia de burnout. En el análisis multivariado, el único predictor significativo de burnout fue el hostigamiento laboral. La presencia de un hostigamiento moderado a elevado se asoció a un OR de 4,00 (IC 95 % 1,4-11,3; p = 0,009) comparado con bajos niveles de hostigamiento. Conclusiones: Es importante identificar a trabajadores de la salud con hostigamiento laboral por su fuerte asociación con el síndrome de burnout. Se considera indispensable la realización de una investigación complementaria que permita entender y abordar la problemática del hostigamiento laboral y su influencia en el desarrollo de burnout, así como estudios que permitan evaluar intervenciones destinadas a prevenir tanto el hostigamiento laboral como el burnout.


Objective: To determine the association between workplace harassment and burnout syndrome among healthcare personnel of a Peruvian referral hospital. Materials and methods: An analytical cross-sectional study which included internists, surgeons, nurses, residents, interns and nursing technicians from the Medicine and Surgery departments of Hospital Nacional Hipólito Unanue in Lima, Peru. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) and the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R) were used for the assessment of burnout and harassment, respectively. Additionally, the association with age, gender, occupation, marital status, workplace, salary satisfaction, family burden, physical activity, harmful habits, vacations, religious affiliation, number of jobs, monthly remuneration, job tenure, working hours per week, number of patients seen per day, weekly shifts and rest hours was evaluated. A multivariate analysis was conducted using a multiple logistic regression model and the presence or absence of burnout as an outcome variable. Results: The study consisted of 206 participants, out of whom 22 (10.7 %) suffered burnout and 27 (14 %) moderate to severe harassment. In the bivariate analysis, age (OR 0.94; 95 % CI 0.89-0.99; p = 0.02), marital status such as married and cohabiting (OR 2.85; 95 % CI 1.01-8.06; p = 0.04) and harassment (OR 5.20; 95 % CI 1.92-14.09; p = 0.009) were associated with burnout. In the multivariate analysis, the only significant predictor of burnout was workplace harassment. Moderate to severe harassment was associated with OR 4.00 (95 % CI 1.4-11.3; p = 0.009) compared to mild harassment. Conclusions: It is important to identify health workers suffering workplace harassment due to its strong association with burnout syndrome. It is essential to carry out further research to understand and address the problem of workplace harassment and its influence on the development of burnout, as well as studies to evaluate interventions aimed at preventing both workplace harassment and burnout.

El síndrome de Burnout también conocido con el término "de estar quemado" afecta de manera negativa la calidad de vida, salud mental y laboral del personal de salud, éste se pudo ver afectado en el período post pandemia, dado que la emergencia sanitara generó mayor estrés, manteniendo a las personas es un estado de alerta constante. Objetivo: explorar la prevalencia y factores asociados al Síndrome de Burnout en docentes de las Licenciaturas de las Ciencias de la Salud que se desarrollan en el Edificio Polivalente Parque Batlle de la Udelar durante el año 2022. Metodología: se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo, de corte transversal. Población objetivo: docentes de las Licenciaturas de las Ciencias de la Salud de la Udelar, a los que se aplicó un cuestionario anónimo y auto administrado. El proyecto fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética de la Escuela de Nutrición. Todos los participantes dieron su consentimiento informado. Resultados: de un universo de 820 docentes, respondieron 145, predominando el sexo femenino. El 52 % con edades entre 18 y 40 años. Al evaluar los factores de Escala de Maslach encontramos que el 45 % presentó Cansancio Emocional Alto, seguido de un 18 %de Realización Personal Bajo y un 10 % de Despersonalización Alto. Dos participantes presentan las tres dimensiones de riesgo, corresponde a una prevalencia de 1.4 %. Conclusiones: si bien la prevalencia de Burnout fue baja en la serie estudiada, es importante destacar el elevado porcentaje de la dimensión cansancio emocional, el cual se refleja en una sobrecarga emocional generada por el trabajo.

The project was approved by the Ethics Committee of the School of Nutrition. All participants gave their informed consent. Results: from a universe of 820 teachers, 145 responded, predominantly female. 52 % aged between 18 and 40 years. When evaluating the Maslach Scale factors, we found that 45 %presented High Emotional Fatigue, followed by 18 % of Low Personal Realization and 10% of High Depersonalization. Two participants presented the three dimensions of risk, corresponding to a prevalence of 1.4 %.Conclusions: although the prevalence of Burnout was low in the series studied, it is important to highlight the high percentage of the emotional exhaustion dimension, which is reflected in an emotional overload generated by work.

Objetivo: explorar a prevalência e os fatores associados à Síndrome de Burnout em professores das Licenciaturas em Ciências da Saúde que se desenvolvem no Edifício Multiuso Parque Batlle de la Udelar durante o ano de 2022.Metodologia: estudo descritivo, transversal e observacional. População-alvo: docentes dos Cursos de Ciências da Saúde da Udelar, aos quais foi aplicado um questionário anônimo e autoaplicável. O projeto foi aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética da Escola de Nutrição. Todos os participantes deram o seu consentimento informado. Resultados: de um universo de 820 professores, 145 responderam, predominantemente do sexo feminino, 52 % com idade entre 18 e 40 anos. Ao avaliar os fatores da Escala de Maslach, verificamos que 45 % apresentaram Alta Fadiga Emocional, seguidos de 18 % de Baixa Realização Pessoal e 10 % de Alta Despersonalização. Dois participantes apresentaram as três dimensões de risco, correspondendo a uma prevalência de 1,4 %.Conclusões: embora a prevalência de Burnout tenha sido baixa na série estudada, é importante destacar o alto percentual da dimensão exaustão emocional, que se reflete em uma sobrecarga emocional gerada pelo trabalho.

Introducción: La rápida propagación de la COVID-19 a escala mundial ocasionó el colapso de los sistemas sanitarios, lo cual contribuyó a que el personal sanitario incrementara el agotamiento sufrido, tanto físico como mental. Objetivo: Determinar el impacto psicológico de la pandemia de la COVID-19 en el personal sanitario. Métodos: Estudio multicéntrico transversal, en 145 sujetos que se desempeñaron como personal sanitario en el periodo de enero a diciembre de 2021. La información se recopiló a través de un formulario online, precisando edad, sexo, antecedentes patológicos personales, institución, categoría laboral, acceso diario a información sobre la COVID-19, asistencia directa a pacientes infectados y muerte de personas cercanas. Se aplicó el Cuestionario de Salud General. Se utilizó la prueba de U de Mann-Whitney para buscar diferencias en la puntuación general reportada. Resultados: Presentaron un impacto psicológico alto el 62,1 por ciento de los encuestados; el 70,0 por ciento eran médicos y enfermeras; el 62,2 por ciento accedía más de 2 h al día a información sobre la COVID; el 64,4 por ciento participó directamente en la atención a pacientes infectados y el 35,6 por ciento había perdido a personas cercanas por la pandemia. Ser mujer (p= 0,008), acceder a información sobre la COVID-19 más de 2 h al día (p= 0,026), asistir directamente a pacientes infectados (p= 0,033) y la muerte de personas cercanas (p= 0,018) tuvo diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el impacto psicológico. Conclusiones: La pandemia de la COVID-19 se asocia a un impacto psicológico alto en el personal sanitario(AU)


Introduction: The fast spread of COVID-19 around the world caused health systems collapse, which contributed to increase fatigue suffered by health workers, physical as well as mental. Objective: To determine psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic on health professionals. Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out in 145 subjects who worked as health professionals from January to December 2021. This information was collected in an online form. Age, sex, medical record, institution, work category, daily access to COVID-19 information, direct assistance to infected patients and close people death was considered parameters in the applied form. Mann-Whitney U test was applied to find differences in the overall reported score. Results: 62.1 percent of health workers presented a High Psychological Impact, 70.0 percent were medical and nursing staff; 62.2 percent accessed to information about COVID-19 for more than 2 hours daily, 64.4 percent assisted infected patients directly, and 35.6 percent experienced close people death due to the pandemic. Being a woman (p= 0,008), accessing information about COVID-19 for more than 2 hours daily (p= 0,026), directly assisting infected patients (p= 0,033), and the death of close people (p= 0,018) had statistically significant differences in psychological impact. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic is associated with a high psychological impact in health workers(AU)

Objetivo: El presente artículo tiene como objetivo mostrar el impacto que tiene el Sín-drome de Burnout en el desempeño laboral de los maestros de ciencias de la salud. Materiales y métodos: Para ello se realizó una búsqueda de artículos originales, artículos de revisión, tesis y revisiones sistemáticas publicadas desde el 2017 hasta el 2022, en las bases de datos: Pubmed/MEDLINE, Scopus, SciELO, y Google Scholar. Resultados:De acuerdo con los resultados obtenidos, se concluye que los médicos y odontólogos do-centes sí tienen una alta tendencia a padecer burnout, lo cual afecta a su desempeño final con el educando, teniendo consecuencias negativas en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendi-zaje. Conclusión: El Síndrome de Burnout está asociado a profesionales que realizan un servicio directo a otras personas, siendo este el caso de los docentes. Los catedráticos de las facultades de ciencias de la salud representan una población con alto riesgo para el de-sarrollo de estrés crónico ocupacional, debido a que, además de la interacción constante con los alumnos, la carga laboral dentro y fuera de la institución, la responsabilidad social que implica formar a profesionales que desarrollen las competencias necesarias para cui-dar la salud de los demás; estos, también cumplen con labores asistenciales que pueden acrecentar los niveles de burnout en ellos, repercutiendo directamente en el desempeño laboral de los mismos.


Objective: This article aims to show the impact of Burnout Syndrome on the work per-formance of health sciences teachers. Materials and Methods: For this purpose, a search of original articles, review articles, theses, and systematic reviews published from 2017 to 2022 was conducted in the databases: Pubmed/MEDLINE, Scopus, SciELO, and Google Scholar. Results: According to the results obtained, it is concluded that medical and dental teachers do have a high tendency to suffer burnout, which affects their final performance with the student, having negative consequences in the teaching-learning process. Conclusion: Burnout syndrome is associated with professionals who perform a direct service to other people, this being the case of teachers. The professors of health sciences faculties represent a population at high risk for the development of chronic occupational stress, because, in addition to the constant interaction with students, the workload inside and outside the institution, the social responsibility involved in training professionals who develop the necessary skills to care for the health of others; they also perform care work that can increase the levels of burnout in them, directly affecting their work performance.

O estudo buscou identificar a prevalência de Síndrome de Burnout (SB), bem como verificar se existe uma associação da SB com fatores ocupacionais e a prática de atividade física (AF) em servidores técnico-administrativos (STA) de uma universidade federal do sul do Brasil. A amostra foi composta por 203 STA. Foram coletados dados sociodemográficos, ocupacionais, nutricional, SB e prática de AF. A prevalência de SB entre os STA foi de 50%, sendo que a mesma esteve associada inversamente com a faixa etária (p=0,02) e com as atividades administrativas ou de escritório (p=0,008), ambas com proteção superior a 30%. Conclui-se que a prevalência de SB é elevada entre os STA e que políticas voltadas a redução dos fatores que levam a SB entre STA devem ser criadas e implementadas pela instituição, auxiliando na redução do adoecimento.


The study sought to identify the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome (BS), as well as to verify if there is an association of BS with occupational factors and the practice of physical activity (PA) in technical-administrative servers (TAS) of a federal university in south of Brazil. The sample was composed by 203 STA. Sociodemographic, occupational, nutritional, SB and PA practice data were collected. The prevalence of BS among the TAS was 50%, being that it was inversely associated with age group (p=0.02) and with administrative or desk activities (p=0.008), both with protection greater than 30 %. It was concluded that the prevalence of BS is high among the TAS and policies aimed at reducing two factors that lead to BS among TAS should be created and implemented by the institution helping in the reduction of the treatment.


El estudio buscó identificar la prevalencia del Síndrome de Burnout (SB), así como verificar si existe asociación del SB con factores ocupacionales y la práctica de actividad física (AF) en servidores técnico-administrativos (STA) de una universidad federal en el sur de Brasil. La muestra fue compuesta por 203 STA. Fueron colectados datos sociodemográficos, ocupacionales, nutricional, SB y práctica de AF. La prevalencia de SB entre os STA foi de 50%, siendo que la misma estuvo asociada inversamente com el grupo de edad (p=0,02) y com las actividades administrativas o- de oficina (p=0,008), ambas con protección superior a 30 % Se concluyo que la prevalencia de SB es elevada entre los STA y políticas específicas de disminución de los factores que llevam a SB entre STA deven ser creadas y aplicadas por la institución auxiliando en la disminución de dolencias.
