RESUMO

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are promising candidates for quantum light sources, yet their application has been impeded by photoluminescence instability due to blinking and spectral diffusion. This study introduces a new category of cube-shaped CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals with exceptionally stable photoluminescence characteristics. Under continuous excitation, the emissive quantum state remained consistent without alterations of the charge state for 4000 s, and the average photon energy variation stayed within the bounds of spectral resolution throughout this extended duration. Systematic examination of single-nanocrystal photoluminescence, upon variation of the core and shell dimensions, revealed that a thicker CdS shell and increased core edge length significantly curtail spectral diffusion, considering that the nanocrystals possess well-controlled CdSe-CdS and facet-ligand interfaces. This study advances the optimization of colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals as high-performance quantum light sources.

RESUMO

This work reports in situ (active) electrochemical control over the coupling strength between semiconducting nanoplatelets and a plasmonic cavity. We found that by applying a reductive bias to an Al nanoparticle lattice working electrode the number of CdSe nanoplatelet emitters that can couple to the cavity is decreased. Strong coupling can be reversibly recovered by discharging the lattice at oxidative potentials relative to the conduction band edge reduction potential of the emitters. By correlating the number of electrons added or removed with the measured coupling strength, we identified that loss and recovery of strong coupling are likely hindered by side processes that trap and/or inhibit electrons from populating the nanoplatelet conduction band. These findings demonstrate tunable, external control of strong coupling and offer prospects to tune selectivity in chemical reactions.

RESUMO

CdSe nanoplatelets (NPLs) are promising 2D semiconductors for optoelectronic applications, in which efficient charge transport properties are desirable. It is reported that thermal annealing constitutes an effective strategy to control the optical absorption and electrical properties of CdSe NPLs by tuning the inter-NPL distance. Combining optical absorption, transmission electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, it is revealed that the thermal decomposition of ligands (e.g., cadmium myristate) governs the inter-NPL distance and thus the inter-NPL electronic coupling strength. Employing ultrafast terahertz spectroscopy, it is shown that this enhanced electronic coupling increases both the free carrier generation efficiency and the short-range mobility in NPL solids. The results show a straightforward method of controlling the interfacial electronic coupling strength for developing functional optoelectronic devices through thermal treatments.

RESUMO

Quantum dots (QDs) colloidal nanocrystals are attracting enduring interest by scientific communities for solar energy conversion due to generic physicochemical merits including substantial light absorption coefficient, quantum confinement effect, enriched catalytically active sites, and tunable electronic structure. However, photo-induced charge carriers of QDs suffer from ultra-short charge lifespan and poor stability, rendering controllable vectorial charge modulation and customizing robust and stable QDs artificial photosystems challenging. Herein, tailor-made oppositely charged transition metal chalcogenides quantum dots (TMCs QDs) and MXene quantum dots (MQDs) are judiciously harnessed as the building blocks for electrostatic layer-by-layer assembly buildup on the metal oxides (MOs) framework. In these exquisitely designed LbL assembles MOs/(TMCs QDs/MQDs)n heterostructured photoanodes, TMCs QDs layer acts as light-harvesting antennas, and MQDs layer serves as electron-capturing mediator to relay cascade electrons from TMCs QDs to the MOs substrate, thereby yielding the spatially ordered tandem charge transport chain and contributing to the significantly boosted charge separation over TMCs QDs and solar water oxidation efficiency of MOs/(TMCs QDs/MQDs)n photoanodes. The relationship between interface configuration and charge transfer characteristics is unambiguously unlocked, by which photoelectrochemical mechanism is elucidated. This work would provide inspiring ideas for precisely mediating interfacial charge transfer pathways over QDs toward solar energy conversion.

RESUMO

Here, strongly orientation-dependent lateral photoconductivity of a CdSe monolayer colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) possessing short-chain ligands is reported. A controlled liquid-air self-assembly technique is utilized to deliberately engineer the alignments of CQWs into either face-down (FO) or edge-up (EO) orientation on the substrate as opposed to randomly oriented (RO) CQWs prepared by spin-coating. Adapting planar configuration metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetectors, it is found that lateral conductivity spans ≈2 orders of magnitude depending on the orientation of CQWs in the film in the case of utilizing short ligands. The long native ligands of oleic acid (OA) are exchanged with short-chain ligands of 2-ethylhexane-1-thiol (EHT) to reduce the inter-platelet distance, which significantly improved the photoresponsivity from 4.16, 0.58, and 4.79 mA W-1 to 528.7, 6.17, and 94.2 mA W-1, for the MSM devices prepared with RO, FO, and EO, before and after ligands exchange, respectively. Such CQW orientation control profoundly impacts the photodetector performance also in terms of the detection speed (0.061 s/0.074 s for the FO, 0.048 s/0.060 s for the EO compared to 0.10 s/0.16 s for the RO, for the rise and decay time constants, respectively) and the detectivity (1.7 × 1010, 2.3 × 1011, and 7.5 × 1011 Jones for the FO, EO, and RO devices, respectively) which can be further tailored for the desired optoelectronic device applications. Attributed to charge transportation in colloidal films being proportional to the number of hopping steps, these findings indicate that the solution-processed orientation of CQWs provides the ability to tune the photoconductivity of CQWs with short ligands as another degree of freedom to exploit and engineer their absorptive devices.

RESUMO

Almost all colloidal quantum dots (QDs) exhibit undesired photoluminescence (PL) blinking, which poses a significant obstacle to their use in numerous luminescence applications. An in-depth study of the blinking behavior, along with the associated mechanisms, can provide critical opportunities for fabricating high-quality QDs for diverse applications. Here the blinking of a large series of colloidal QDs is investigated with different surface ligands, particle sizes, shell thicknesses, and compositions. It is found that the blinking behavior of single alloyed CdSe/ZnS QDs with a shell thickness of up to 2 nm undergoes an irreversible conversion from Auger-blinking to band-edge carrier blinking (BC-blinking). Contrastingly, single perovskite QDs with particle sizes smaller than their Bohr diameters exhibit reversible conversion between BC-blinking and more pronounced Auger-blinking. Changes in the effective trapping sites under different excitation conditions are found to be responsible for the blinking type conversions. Additionally, changes in shell thickness and particle size of QDs have a significant effect on the blinking type conversions due to altered wavefunction overlap between excitons and effective trapping sites. This study elucidates the discrepancies in the blinking behavior of various QD samples observed in previous reports and provides deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying diverse types of blinking.

RESUMO

Colloidal two-dimensional (2D) nanoplatelets (NPLs) have been extensively studied owing to promising potential in optoelectronic applications. Here, we have reported the preparation of 2D CdSeTe alloy NPLs and investigated their energy and charge transfer with porphyrin molecules. The red shifting in the optical properties suggests the change in the band gaps. Furthermore, the energy and the charge transfer are evident in the composite of CdSeTe alloy NPLs with 5,10,15,20-tetra(4pyridyl)-porphyrin (TpyP) molecules. The quenching in the photoluminescence (PL) spectra and PL decay time supports the energy transfer (~61 % efficiency) and the charge transfer. The thermodynamically feasible hole transfer is evidenced by the band alignment of the alloy NPLs and TpyP molecules, which is further supported by a transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) study. The TA study found the hole transfer within ~3 ps time scale, proving the effective charge carrier separation for better optoelectronic applications.

RESUMO

Oleic acid-capped CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were used to investigate their photoluminescence (PL) response to Hg2+ ions as a function of the surface properties of QDs. Three distinctly-size CdSe/ZnS QDs were obtained by varying the molar ratio of shell precursors, which were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier-Transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), absorption spectroscopy, and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy. Results revealed the obtention of zinc blende nanocrystals with sizes ranging from 2.7 to 3.2 nm (± 0.5) and ZnS thickness between 0.3 and 1.0 monolayer (ML). The variation of the [S]/[Zn] molar ratio introduced chemical species that act as traps, affecting the PL properties differently. Depending on the thickness of the shell and chemical speciation on surface, Hg2+ ions could induce quenching or enhancement of PL. Detection of mercury ions was evaluated in terms of Stern-Volmer equation, where the limit of detection (LOD) for the PL quenching system was 11.2 nM, while for the PL enhancing systems were 8.98 nM and 10.7 nM. Results demonstrate the performance of oleic acid-capped CdSe/ZnS QDs to detect Hg2+ and their capacity to turn the PL on/off depending on surface properties.

RESUMO

The spin Hamiltonian parameters and defect structures are theoretically studied for the substitutional Mn2+ at the core of CdSe nanocrystals and in the bulk materials from the perturbation calculations of spin Hamiltonian parameters for trigonal tetrahedral 3d5 clusters. Both the crystal-field and charge transfer contributions are taken into account in the calculations from the cluster approach. The impurity-ligand bond angles are found to be about 1.84° larger and 0.10° smaller in the CdSe:Mn2+ nanocrystals and bulk materials, respectively, than those (≈109.37°) of the host Cd2+ sites. The quantitative criterion of occupation (at the core or surface) for Mn2+ in CdX (X = S, Se, Te) nanocrystals is presented for the first time based on the inequations of hyperfine structure constants (HSCs). This criterion is well supported by the experimental HSCs data of Mn2+ in CdX nanocrystals. The previous assignments of signals SI as Mn2+ at the core of CdS nanocrystals are renewed as Mn2+ at the surface based on the above criterion. The present studies would be helpful to achieve convenient determination of occupation for Mn2+ impurities in CdX semiconductor nanocrystals by means of spectral (e.g., HSCs) analysis.

RESUMO

An efficient and innovative electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was developed for trace detection of cyfluthrin. The sensor utilized materials such as lotus root shaped carbon fiber (Co CNFs), cadmium selenide quantum dots (CdSe QDs), and Fe3O4 to amplify Ru(bpy)32+ signals. Co CNFs, with its large specific surface area and porosity, served the purpose of not only enhancing the stability of the sensor by fixing CdSe QDs and Ru(bpy)32+ on the Co CNFs/GCE, but also facilitating electron transfer. CdSe QDs was involved in the luminescence reaction and collaborated with Ru(bpy)32+ to enhance the sensor's sensitivity, while Fe3O4 promoted electron transfer in the system due to its large surface area. The solid-state ECL sensor achieved satisfactory signal under the synergistic action of these components. The ECL signal of the sensor was quenched by cyfluthrin, and a favorable linear relationship was observed between the sensor and cyfluthrin in the concentration range 1 × 10-12 to 1 × 10-6 M. The detection limit of the sensor was 3.3 × 10-13 M (S/N = 3). The utilization of lotus root shaped carbon fiber, CdSe QDs, and Fe3O4 in the Ru(bpy)32+ system demonstrated a synergistic effect for cyfluthrin detection, presenting a new approach for the rapid determination analysis of pesticide residues in foods.

RESUMO

A review of the state of research in the development of conductometric gas sensors based on II-VI semiconductors is given. It was shown that II-VI compounds indeed have properties that are necessary for the development of highly efficient gas sensors. In this case, to achieve the required parameters, all approaches developed for metal oxides can be used. At the same time, during a detailed review, it was concluded that sensors based on II-VI compounds have no prospects for appearing on the gas sensor market. The main obstacle is the instability of the surface state, which leads to poor reproducibility of parameters and drift of sensor characteristics during operation.

RESUMO

We report spin-polarized transient absorption for colloidal CdSe nanoplatelets as functions of thickness (2-6 monolayer thickness) and core/shell motif. Using electro-optical modulation of co- and cross-polarization pump-probe combinations, we sensitively observe spin-polarized transitions. Core-only nanoplatelets exhibit few-picosecond spin lifetimes that weakly increase with layer thickness. The spectral content of differenced spin-polarized signals indicate biexciton binding energies that decrease with increasing thickness and smaller values than previously reported. Shell growth of CdS with controlled thicknesses, which partially delocalize the electron from the hole, significantly increases the spin lifetime to ∼49 ps at room temperature. Implementation of ZnS shells, which do not alter delocalization but do alter surface termination, increased spin lifetimes up to ∼100 ps, bolstering the interpretation that surface termination heavily influences spin coherence, likely due to passivation of dangling bonds. Spin precession in magnetic fields both confirms long coherence lifetime at room temperature and yields the excitonic g factor.

RESUMO

For the practical applications in solar cells and photodetectors, semiconductor colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) are assembled into a high-concentration film with carrier transport characteristics, the full understanding and effective control of which are critical for the achievement of high light-to-electricity conversion efficiencies. Here we have applied transient absorption microscopy to the solid film of giant CdSe/CdS NCs and discovered that at high pump fluences the carrier transport could reach a long distance of ∼2 µm within ∼30 ps after laser pulse excitation. This intriguing behavior is attributed to the metal-insulator transition and the associated bandlike transport, which are promoted by the enhanced electronic coupling among neighboring NCs with extended wave functions overlap of the excited-state charge carriers. Besides providing fundamental transport information in the regime of high laser pump fluences, the above findings shed light on the rational design of high-power light detecting schemes based on colloidal NCs.

RESUMO

Colloidal semiconductor nanomaterials present broadband, with large cross-section, two-photon absorption (2PA) spectra, which turn them into an important platform for applications that benefit from a high nonlinear optical response. Despite that, to date, the only means to control the magnitude of the 2PA cross-section is by changing the nanoparticle volume, as it follows a universal volume scale, independent of the material composition. As the emission spectrum is connected utterly to the nanomaterial dimensions, for a given material, the magnitude of the nonlinear optical response is also coupled to the emission spectra. Here, we demonstrate a means to decouple both effects by exploring the 2PA response of different types of heterostructures, tailoring the volume dependence of the 2PA cross-section due to the different dependence of the density of final states on the nanoparticle volume. By heterostructure engineering, one can obtain 1 order of magnitude enhancement of the 2PA cross-section with minimum emission spectra shift.

RESUMO

The linearity of synaptic plasticity of single-walled carbon nanotube field-effect transistor (SWCNT FET) was improved by CdSe quantum dots decoration. The linearity of synaptic plasticity in SWCNT FET with decorating QDs was further improved by reducing the P-type doping level from the atmosphere. The synaptic behavior of SWCNT FET is found to be dominated by the charging and discharging processes of interface traps and surface traps, which are predominantly composed of H2O/O2redox couples. The improved synaptic behavior is mainly due to the reduction of the interface trap charging process after QDs decoration. The inherent correlation between the device synaptic behavior and the electron capture process of the traps are investigated through charging-based trap characterization. This study provides an effective scheme for improving linearity and designing new-type SWCNT synaptic devices.

RESUMO

Considering the advantages of MOF-based, CdSe-based, and rGO-based materials, CdSe nanoparticles encapsulated with rGO (CdSe@rGO) were synthesized by a metal-organic framework derived method. CdSe nanoparticles encapsulated with rGO can effectively tolerate volume expansion and improve electrical conductivity, leading to excellent cycling stability (396 mAh g-1at 0.3 A g-1after 200 cycles, 311 mAh g-1at 0.5 A g-1after 500 cycles), and rate performance (562 mAh g-1at 0.1 A g-1and 122.2 mAh g-1at 4 A g-1) for lithium-ion storage. This strategy for preparing metal selenides protected by carbon layers can be extended to the design of other high-performance materials.

RESUMO

The design and construction of a visible light-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) device is described based on a CdSe-Co3O4@TiO2 nanoflower (NF). Moreover, an application to the ultrasensitive detection of viruses, such as hepatitis E virus (HEV), HEV-like particles (HEV-LPs), and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in complicated lysate solution, is demonstrated. The photocurrent response output of a PEC device based on CdSe-Co3O4@TiO2 is enhanced compared with the individual components, TiO2 and CdSe-Co3O4. This can be attributed to the CdSe quantum dot (QD) sensitization effect and strong visible light absorption to improve overall system stability. A robust oxygen-evolving catalyst (Co3O4) coupled at the hole-trapping site (CdSe) extends the interfacial carrier lifetime, and the energy conversion efficiency was improved. The effective hybridization between the antibody and virus resulted in a linear relationship between the change in photocurrent density and the HEV-LP concentration ranging from 10 fg mL-1 to 10 ng mL-1, with a detection limit of 3.5 fg mL-1. This CdSe-Co3O4@TiO2-based PEC device achieved considerable sensitivity, good specificity, and acceptable stability and demonstrated a significant ability to develop an upgraded device with affordable and portable biosensing capabilities.

RESUMO

A fluorescent microgel for BPA detection has been successfully prepared by cross-linking linear poly(styrene-co-glycidyl methacrylate) (poly (STY-co-GMA)) with L-cysteine-capped CdSe quantum dots (Lcys-caped CdSe QDs). The microgel contained specific binding sites created by the covalent grafting of the copolymer onto the QDs via the GMA units, allowing for selective trapping of BPA molecules through π-π and hydrogen bond interactions with phenyl, carboxylic, and amine groups. After binding, electron transfer from the QDs to the analyte quenched the fluorescence at a wavelength of 547 nm when excited at 400 nm. The rational compositional and structural design allows the microgel to accurately detect BPA concentrations over a wide dynamic range of 1.0×10-1 to 1.0×105 µg/L with a low detection limit (7.0×10-2 to 8.0×10-2 µg/L) in deionized, drinking, and tap waters within just 2.0 min. On top of that, the sensitivity for BPA detection was 2.0-4.6 times higher than that of the other 3 structural analogues, even molecular imprinting was not involved. The influence of the STY/GMA compositions in the copolymers and environmental conditions, including pH and ionic strength, on the sensing performance was determined. Moreover, the sensing mechanism and the selectivity with respect to the molecular features were elucidated.

RESUMO

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are the important biomarker for cancer diagnosis and individualized treatment. However, due to the extreme rarity of CTCs (only 1-10 CTCs are found in every milliliter of peripheral blood) high sensitivity and selectivity are urgently needed for CTC detection. Here, a sandwich PEC cytosensor for the ultrasensitive detection of CTCs was developed using the photoactive material Au NP/-Fe2O3 and core-shell CdSe@CdS QD sensitizer. In the proposed  protocol, the CdSe@CdS QD/Au NP/α-Fe2O3-sensitized structure with cascade band-edge levels could evidently promote the photoelectric conversion efficiency due to suitable light absorption and efficient electron-hole pair recombination inhibition. Additionally, a dendritic aptamer-DNA concatemer was constructed for highly efficient capture of MCF-7 cells carrying CdSe@CdS QDs, a sensitive material. The linear range of this proposed signal-on PEC sensing method was 300 cell mL-1 to 6 × 105 cell mL-1 with a detection limit of 3 cell mL-1, and it demonstrated an ultrasensitive response to CTCs. Furthermore, this PEC sensor enabled accurate detection of  CTCs in serum samples. Hence, a promising strategy for CTC detection in clinical diagnosis was developed based on CdSe@CdS QD-sensitized Au NP/α-Fe2O3-based PEC cytosensor with dendritic aptamer-DNA concatemer.

RESUMO

Here, we report an exceptional feature of the one-dimensional threadlike assemblies of a four-monolayer colloidal CdSe nanoplatelet (NPL)-based thin-film transistor. A series of different lengths of threads (200-1200 nm) was used as an active n channel in thin-film transistors (TFTs) to understand the change in mobility with the length of the threads. The film with the longest threads shows the highest conductivity of ∼12 S/cm and electron mobility of ∼14.3 cm2 V-1 s-1 for an applied gate voltage of 2 V. The mobility trends with the length seem to be driven mostly by the lower defects in threads, where the loss of electron hopping is less. Furthermore, our results show the mobility trends in stacking-dependent CdSe NPL threads and provide a new insight into fabricating high-mobility TFTs with the use of colloidal CdSe NPLs.
