RESUMO

The interaction between silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and molecules producing coronas plays a key role in cytotoxicity mechanisms. Once adsorbed coronas determine the destiny of nanomaterials in vivo, their effective deployment in the biomedical field requires a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic interactions of biomolecules with nanoparticles. In this work, we characterized 40 nm AgNPs in three different nutritional cell media at different molar concentrations and incubation times to study the binding mechanism of molecules on surface nanoparticles. In addition, their cytotoxic effects have been studied in three cell lineages used as tissue regeneration models: FN1, HUV-EC-C, RAW 264.7. According to the data, when biomolecules from DMEM medium were in contact with AgNPs, agglomeration and precipitation occurred. However, FBS medium proteins indicated the formation of coronas over the nanoparticles. Nonetheless, little adsorption of molecules around the nanoparticles was observed when compared to DMEM supplemented with 10% FBS. These findings indicate that when nanoparticles and bioproteins from supplemented media interact, inorganic salts from DMEM contribute to produce large bio-coronas, the size of which varies with the concentration and time. The static quenching mechanism was shown to be responsible for the fluorescence quenching of the bioprotein aggregates on the AgNPs surface. The calculated bioprotein-nanoparticle surface binding constants were on the order of 105 M-1 at 37 °C, with hydrophobic interactions driven by enthalpy and entropy playing a role, as confirmed by thermodynamic analysis. Cytotoxicity data showed a systematic degrowth in the viable cell population as the number of nanoparticles increased and the diameter of coronas decreased. Cytotoxic intervals associated with half decrease of cell population were established for AgNPs molar concentration of 75 µM for 24 h and 50 µM for 48 h. In summary, through the cytotoxicity mechanism of bio-coronas we are able to manipulate cells' expansion rates to promote specific processes, such inflammatory mechanisms, at different time instants.

The remarkable development in technology has led to the increase of massive big data. Machine learning processes provide a way for investigators to examine and particularly classify big data. Besides, several machine learning models rely on powerful feature extraction and feature selection techniques for their success. In this paper, a big data classification approach is developed using an optimized deep learning classifier integrated with hybrid feature extraction and feature selection approaches. The proposed technique uses local linear embedding-based kernel principal component analysis and perturbation theory, respectively, to extract more representative data and select the appropriate features from the big data environment. In addition, the feature selection task is fine-tuned by using perturbation theory through heuristic search based on their output accuracy. This feature selection heuristic search method is analysed with five recent heuristic optimization algorithms for deciding the final feature subset. Finally, the data are categorized through an attention-based bidirectional long short-term memory classifier that is optimized with a golden eagle-inspired algorithm. The performance of the proposed model is experimentally verified on publicly accessible datasets. From the experimental outcomes, it is demonstrated that the proposed framework is capable of classifying large datasets with more than 90% accuracy.

Turbulent winds and gusts fluctuate on a wide range of timescales from milliseconds to minutes and longer, a range that overlaps the timescales of avian flight behavior, yet the importance of turbulence to avian behavior is unclear. By combining wind speed data with the measured accelerations of a golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) flying in the wild, we find evidence in favor of a linear relationship between the eagle's accelerations and atmospheric turbulence for timescales between about 1/2 and 10 s. These timescales are comparable to those of typical eagle behaviors, corresponding to between about 1 and 25 wingbeats, and to those of turbulent gusts both larger than the eagle's wingspan and smaller than large-scale atmospheric phenomena such as convection cells. The eagle's accelerations exhibit power spectra and intermittent activity characteristic of turbulence and increase in proportion to the turbulence intensity. Intermittency results in accelerations that are occasionally several times stronger than gravity, which the eagle works against to stay aloft. These imprints of turbulence on the bird's movements need to be further explored to understand the energetics of birds and other volant life-forms, to improve our own methods of flying through ceaselessly turbulent environments, and to engage airborne wildlife as distributed probes of the changing conditions in the atmosphere.

BACKGROUND: Eagle jugular syndrome (EJS), recently identified as a cause of cerebrovascular disease (CVD) due to venous obstruction by an elongated styloid process (SP), is reported here alongside a case of concurrent de novo cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM). This study aims to explore the potential causal relationship between EJS and de novo CCM through a comprehensive literature review. METHOD: Systematic literature reviews, spanning from 1995 to 2023, focused on EJS cases with definitive signs and symptoms and de novo CCM cases with detailed clinical characteristics. Data on the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of EJS, as well as potential risk factors preceding de novo CCM, were collected to assess the relationship between the two conditions. RESULT: Among 14 patients from 11 articles on EJS, the most common presentation was increased intracranial hypertension (IIH), observed in 10 patients (71.4%), followed by dural sinus thrombosis in four patients (28.6%). In contrast, 30 patients from 28 articles were identified with de novo CCM, involving 37 lesions. In these cases, 13 patients developed CCM subsequent to developmental venous anomalies (43%), seven following dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVF) (23%), and two after sinus thrombosis (6%). In a specific case of de novo brainstem CCM, the development of an enlarged condylar emissary vein, indicative of venous congestion due to IJV compression by the elongated SP, was noted before the emergence of CCM. CONCLUSION: This study underscores that venous congestion, a primary result of symptomatic EJS, might lead to the development of de novo CCM. Thus, EJS could potentially be an indicator of CCM development. Further epidemiological and pathophysiological investigations focusing on venous circulation are necessary to clarify the causal relationship between EJS and CCM.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study is to conduct a systematic review of the existing literature on styloidectomy performed through transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in Eagle syndrome (ES). DESIGN AND SETTING: Two independent reviewers (RC and AC) conducted a systematic review of PubMed and Embase databases, seeking articles on TORS performed for ES treatment. The search was conducted in July 2023. The review was carried out in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. PARTICIPANTS: The review included a total of 17 adult patients, comprising 12 females and 5 males, with an average age of 52.2 years, all diagnosed with ES. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: For each patient, we assessed the overall length of the styloid process, the affected side, total intervention duration, hospitalization duration, pre and postoperative Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores, and the presence of minor and major complications. RESULTS: We identified 4 articles describing 17 instances of TORS as a surgical treatment for ES in the literature, totaling 18 styloidectomies. The mean age of the patients was 52.2 years, with 12 females and 5 males. The average operation time, inclusive of the docking phase, was 68.8 minutes. Sixteen patients (94.1% of the total) experienced complete symptom disappearance or near-complete resolution after surgery. One patient (5.9%) showed improvement categorized as 'non-meaningful.' Only one case of minor complication was reported among the 17 procedures (5.9%).

This report describes the diagnosis and treatment of a benign renal cyst in an adult, female golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) presented for unilateral leg lameness. A cyst at the cranial division of the left kidney was diagnosed by computed tomography and was suspected of compressing the lumbosacral nerve plexus, resulting in limb lameness. The renal cyst was incompletely excised because the cyst wall was closely adhered to the kidney parenchyma and local blood supply. Fluid analysis and surgical biopsy of the cyst and left kidney confirmed the diagnosis of a benign renal cyst. No evidence of an infectious, inflammatory, or neoplastic etiology was noted. Postoperatively, the eagle's lameness resolved and the bird was ultimately released following recovery. During treatment for the renal cyst, the eagle was concurrently found to have increased serum titers on elementary body agglutination for Chlamydia psittaci and a positive titer for Aspergillus species antibody testing. The bird was administered doxycycline, azithromycin, and voriconazole for treatment of these potential pathogens prior to release. Unfortunately, the eagle was found dead 86 days postrelease due to an unknown cause. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of a golden eagle with a benign solitary renal cyst causing unilateral lameness secondary to nerve compression that was resolved with surgical excision.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) susceptibility in both planktonic cells and biofilm of 32 Gram-negative (Gn) and 6 Gram-positive (Gp) isolates by minimal inhibitory concentration (2-256 µg/mL for Gn and 2-32 µg/mL for Gp), minimal bactericidal concentration (4-256 µg/mL for Gn and 2-32 µg/mL for Gp) in planktonic cells, and minimal biofilm elimination concentration (128 ≥ 16,384 µg/mL in Gn and 32 ≥ 16,384 µg/mL in Gp) in biofilm environment. Our study showed that Gn isolates have higher minimal concentrations than Gp and bacteria in biofilms are more tolerant than planktonic ones. No correlation between MBC or MBEC and biofilm formation was statistically confirmed. The Eagle effect, previously described for antimicrobials and antifungals, was evidenced in this work for CHG, an antiseptic. Besides that, the phenomenon was described in 23/38 isolates (60.5%), raising minimal concentration up to ≥ 16,384 µg/mL. Our study showed that clinical isolates have a high ability to form biofilm allowing them to tolerate CHG concentrations as high as the ones used in clinical practice. Therefore, attention should be given to the occurrence of this phenomenon to avoid false susceptibility results.

Bonelli's eagle (Aquila fasciata) is an endangered raptor species in Europe, and trichomonosis is one of the menaces affecting chicks at nest. In this paper, we attempt to describe the oral microbiome of Bonelli's eagle nestlings and evaluate the influence of several factors, such as captivity breeding, Trichomonas gallinae infection, and the presence of lesions at the oropharynx. The core oral microbiome of Bonelli's eagle is composed of Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria as the most abundant phyla, and Megamonas and Bacteroides as the most abundant genera. None of the factors analysed showed a significant influence on alfa diversity, but beta diversity was affected for some of them. Captivity breeding exerted a high influence on the composition of the oral microbiome, with significant differences in the four most abundant phyla, with a relative increase of Proteobacteria and a decrease of the other three phyla in comparison with chicks bred at nest. Some genera were more abundant in captivity bred chicks, such as Escherichia-Shigella, Enterococcus, Lactobacillus, Corynebacterium, Clostridium and Staphylococcus, while Bacteroides, Oceanivirga, Peptostreptococcus, Gemella, Veillonella, Mycoplasma, Suttonella, Alloscardovia, Varibaculum and Campylobacter were more abundant in nest raised chicks. T. gallinae infection slightly influenced the composition of the microbiome, but chicks displaying trichomonosis lesions had a higher relative abundance of Bacteroides and Gemella, being the last one an opportunistic pathogen of abscess complications in humans. Raptor's microbiomes are scarcely studied. This is the first study on the factors that influence the oral microbiome of Bonelli's eagle.

Soil disturbances that accompany energy development can damage local habitats. Prior to oil and gas extraction, it is commonly recommended that topsoil stockpiles be created to aid future restoration. Our study area, a retired fracking pond in the western Rio Grande Plains, Texas, was restored in 2017 with stockpiled topsoil that was collected in 2013. We segregated the existing stockpile into three layers that were ∼1.5 m in thickness and distributed these layers, along with a non-amended control surface (consisting of former subsoil that made up the perimeter of the fracking pond), in strips over the restoration area. Each of the four surfaces was seeded with a mixture of (1) 13 native grasses, (2) 13 native grasses plus an annual warm-season grass cover crop, or (3) non-seeded. We monitored plant density and species composition two through five years post-restoration. The non-amended control surface had higher seeded grass density during the final 2 sampling periods; stockpiled surfaces seldom differed from each other. Previous year's competing plant density had little effect on restoration success. Providing supplemental seed initially increased seeded plant density but benefits diminished over time; adding a cover crop was not advantageous. Changes in community composition over time were similar on stockpile surfaces but more variable than observed on the control surface. Results suggest that stockpiling topsoil may not be necessary, but that supplemental seeding was beneficial, to restoration success.

PURPOSE: Minor injury to head and neck is usually neglected for potential neurological consequences. We report a woman who suffered left Eagle syndrome due to styloid process fracture two years after a minor motorcycle collision. CASE REPORT: A 53-year-old woman complained pain at her left upper neck, lower face and periauricular area after minor motorcycle collision at 2 years ago. The pain usually occurred spontaneously but was occasionally triggered or exacerbated by specific postural changes, including looking up or turning head to right side. Moreover, a foreign body sensation occurred at throat during swallowing. Physical examination provoked pain at the left submandibular area. Carotid bruit was absent. Otherwise, other neurological function was preserved. Computerized tomography revealed linear fracture at the middle of left styloid process. After inform, patient preferred conservative treatments including abortive non- steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and an avoidance of rapid head rotations. Since afterwards, the frequency and intensity of neck pain greatly decreased and she could tolerate and maintain a normal daily living. CONCLUSIONS: Asymptomatic or paucisymptomatic styloid process fracture may be neglected in case of minor injury to head and neck. A careful evaluation of neck should be completed in traumatic individuals to reveal underlying damage and prevent further harmful consequence.

BACKGROUND: Styloid process (SP) is a cylindrical bony projection that originates from the inferior part of the petrous temporal bone just anteriorly to the stylomastoid foramen. Several nerves, muscles, and ligaments are related closely to the (SP). It is considered elongated when the measurement exceeds 30 mm. The overall prevalence of the styloid process is between 3.3% to 84.4%. The elongation of the styloid process (ESP) is associated with the manifestation of Eagle's Syndrome (ES) which is characterized by various types of pain in the head and neck region such as headache, tinnitus, otalgia, and trigeminal neuralgia. Eagle's syndrome occurs in 4-10.3% of individuals with an elongated styloid process (ESP). The objective of the study is to determine the prevalence of (ESP) in the patients who were treated in the Dental Hospital University of Barcelona (HOUB), to review the literature to spot the light on the different demographic data worldwide. METHODS: The archived panoramic image in the University of Barcelona dental Hospital were consecutively retrieved to investigate the prevalence of (ESP). Of all digital panoramic radiographs (OPG), 400 met the inclusion criteria and were furtherly analyzed. The results are correlated with the participant's gender, age, and occurrence. Age is subcategorized into three groups. A chi-square test is used to measure the significant differences and the P-value is set at < 0.05 for the level of significance. RESULTS: Among the included 400, we found 291 demonstrating (ESP). The prevalence of (ESP) which exceeds 30 mm is 72.75%. It is found that the most common morphological type is type 1 which is regarded as the uninterrupted (ESP) regardless of gender and age group. Concerning the calcification pattern, the most prevalent is the partial calcified (ESP) despite genders and age groups. CONCLUSION: (OPG) is a sufficient tool for the screening of the elongated styloid process. Regarding the prevalence, our results are considered higher than previously reported prevalence in different populations using (OPG) radiography tool. A study on a wider spectrum of the Spanish population is recommended to further investigate the correlation between the elongated styloid process and the occurrence of Eagle's syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Eagle's syndrome (ES) is a term describing a group of symptoms associated with the elongation of the styloid process (SP) of the temporal bone or with ossification of the stylohyoid ligament. Clinically, it manifests through pain in the orofacial and pharyngeal regions, similar to that experienced by patients with temporomandibular joint disease. The presented paper aims to assess the evaluation of the success of surgical treatment and the complications associated with such treatment. METHODS: Our retrospective study includes nine patients with ES treated in our Department Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in years 2019-2023 (median age of 47 years) - all patients affected with this disease out of 2,716 patients examined at our department due to a temporomandibular joint disease. Eight of these patients underwent a surgical resection of the SP. The success and complications in these patients are evaluated in this study. RESULTS: In seven patients, the problems disappeared or at least diminished, which is consistent with data from the literature. Postoperative complications such as deficit of the marginal branch of the facial nerve (n. VII), limited sticking the tongue out (n. XII), and velopharyngeal insufficiency (n. IX) occurred in three patients. CONCLUSION: The wide spectrum of clinical manifestations makes ES a condition that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders, post-traumatic conditions, or complicated eruption of wisdom teeth or their extraction. ES can be treated conservatively or (mostly) surgically. Surgical treatment can be relatively successful and effective, but it is necessary to respect the anatomical placement of the SP, which can be associated with the development of complications, especially in cases with extremely long SP.

An injured young individual of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca; Accipitridae) from the Protected Bird Area "Medzibodrozie" in the south-eastern Slovakia was subjected to the complete clinical examination at the Clinic for Birds and Exotic Animals of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy. Adult trematodes were isolated from the pharynx of the eagle after oesophagoscopy. The morphological and molecular identification of the flukes confirmed a trematode Cathaemasia hians (Cathaemasiidae), the obligate parasite of black storks (Ciconia nigra) and white storks (Ciconia ciconia). This finding represents the first documented case of C. hians in new bird host species and indicates broader spectrum of definitive hosts of the fluke.

Limited data are available regarding cardiac diseases in birds of prey despite their prevalence in these avian species. Literature regarding valvular lesions in birds of prey is scarce and includes single reports of left atrioventricular valvular endocarditis in an adult, free-ranging, male bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) and aortic valvular endocarditis in an adult, free-ranging, female red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence, signalment, gross necropsy findings, and histologic lesions of valvular lesions in eagles. In this retrospective study, necropsy reports for 24 free-ranging and captive eagles were evaluated over a 15-year period (July 3, 2006-February 28, 2021). Six (25%; 95% confidence interval: 8.9-58.9) birds, 5 bald eagles and 1 golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), met the inclusion criteria. Five (83.3%) of the 6 birds had valvular degeneration, 2 (33.3%) had endocarditis, and Staphylococcus aureus was cultured from 1 (16.7%) of the endocarditis cases. The 6 eagles with valvular lesions were all captive adults. Four of the birds were female (66.7%), and the aortic and left atrioventricular valves were equally affected. Acute or chronic cerebral infarcts were present in all 6 birds. Valvular cardiac disease should be considered as a differential diagnosis in eagles exhibiting respiratory distress, neurologic signs, syncope, or in cases of sudden death.

Intravenous lipid emulsion (ILE) therapy has shown promise as a treatment option for a variety of lipophilic toxins. Two birds presented for suspected ingestion of a toxic substance. A blue-and-gold macaw (Ara ararauna) presented after chewing a block of bromethalin rodenticide without overt clinical signs at the time of presentation. Additionally, a free-ranging bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) was found weak and depressed near a municipal landfill after presumptive ingestion of pentobarbital. Both birds were treated with ILE therapy for potential intoxication without any adverse events. The macaw was clinically normal after 3 days of hospitalization and at a 1-week reevaluation. The eagle was transferred to a rehabilitation center after markedly improved mentation and strength and was released 7 days later. Clinicians should consider ILE therapy for the treatment of lipophilic toxicities; however, monitoring is recommended for persistent lipemia and other adverse effects that have been reported in the veterinary literature.

BACKGROUND: Whole genomes are commonly assembled into a collection of scaffolds and often lack annotations of autosomes, sex chromosomes, and organelle genomes (i.e., mitochondrial and chloroplast). As these chromosome types differ in effective population size and can have highly disparate evolutionary histories, it is imperative to take this information into account when analysing genomic variation. Here we assessed the accuracy of four methods for identifying the homogametic sex chromosome in a small population using two whole genome sequences (WGS) and 133 RAD sequences of white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla): i) difference in read depth per scaffold in a male and a female, ii) heterozygosity per scaffold in a male and a female, iii) mapping to the reference genome of a related species (chicken) with annotated sex chromosomes, and iv) analysis of SNP-loadings from a principal components analysis (PCA), based on the low-depth RADseq data. RESULTS: The best performing approach was the reference mapping (method iii), which identified 98.12% of the expected homogametic sex chromosome (Z). Read depth per scaffold (method i) identified 86.41% of the homogametic sex chromosome with few false positives. SNP-loading scores (method iv) identified 78.6% of the Z-chromosome and had a false positive discovery rate of more than 10%. Heterozygosity per scaffold (method ii) did not provide clear results due to a lack of diversity in both the Z and autosomal chromosomes, and potential interference from the heterogametic sex chromosome (W). The evaluation of these methods also revealed 10 Mb of putative PAR and gametologous regions. CONCLUSION: Identification of the homogametic sex chromosome in a small population is best accomplished by reference mapping or examining differences in read depth between sexes.

In the United States, the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act prohibits take of golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos) unless authorized by permit, and stipulates that all permitted take must be sustainable. Golden eagles are unintentionally killed in conjunction with many lawful activities (e.g., electrocution on power poles, collision with wind turbines). Managers who issue permits for incidental take of golden eagles must determine allowable take levels and manage permitted take accordingly. To aid managers in making these decisions in the western United States, we used an integrated population model to obtain estimates of golden eagle vital rates and population size, and then used those estimates in a prescribed take level (PTL) model to estimate the allowable take level. Estimated mean annual survival rates for golden eagles ranged from 0.70 (95% credible interval = 0.66-0.74) for first-year birds to 0.90 (0.88-0.91) for adults. Models suggested a high proportion of adult female golden eagles attempted to breed and breeding pairs fledged a mean of 0.53 (0.39-0.72) young annually. Population size in the coterminous western United States has averaged ~31,800 individuals for several decades, with λ = 1.0 (0.96-1.05). The PTL model estimated a median allowable take limit of ~2227 (708-4182) individuals annually given a management objective of maintaining a stable population. We estimate that take averaged 2572 out of 4373 (59%) deaths annually, based on a representative sample of transmitter-tagged golden eagles. For the subset of golden eagles that were recovered and a cause of death determined, anthropogenic mortality accounted for an average of 74% of deaths after their first year; leading forms of take over all age classes were shooting (~670 per year), collisions (~611), electrocutions (~506), and poisoning (~427). Although observed take overlapped the credible interval of our allowable take estimate and the population overall has been stable, our findings indicate that additional take, unless mitigated for, may not be sustainable. Our analysis demonstrates the utility of the joint application of integrated population and prescribed take level models to management of incidental take of a protected species.

In populations across many taxa, a large fraction of sexually mature individuals do not breed but are attempting to enter the breeding population. Such individuals, often referred to as "floaters," can play critical roles in the dynamics and stability of these populations and buffer them through periods of high adult mortality. Floaters are difficult to study, however, so we lack data needed to understand their roles in the population ecology and conservation status of many species. Here, we analyzed satellite telemetry data with a newly developed mechanistic space use model based on an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process to help overcome the paucity of data in studying the differential habitat selection and space use of floater and territorial golden eagles Aquila chrysaetos. Our sample consisted of 49 individuals tracked over complete breeding seasons across 4 years, totaling 104 eagle breeding seasons. Modeling these data mechanistically was required to disentangle key differences in movement and particularly to separate aspects of movement driven by resource selection from those driven by use of a central place. We found that floaters generally had more expansive space use patterns and larger home ranges, as well as evidence that they partition space with territorial individuals seemingly on fine scales through differential habitat and resource selection. Floater and territorial eagle home ranges overlapped markedly, suggesting that floaters use the interstices between territories. Furthermore, floater and territorial eagles differed in how they selected for uplift variables, key components of soaring birds' energy landscape, with territorial eagles apparently better able to find and use thermal uplift. We also found relatively low individual heterogeneity in resource selection, especially among territorial individuals, suggesting a narrow realized niche for breeding individuals, which varied from the level of among-individual variation present during migration. This work furthers our understanding of floaters' potential roles in the population ecology of territorial species and suggests that conserving landscapes occupied by territorial eagles also protects floaters.

INTRODUCTION: Vascular Eagle syndrome, due to impingement of the extracranial internal carotid artery (ICA) by the styloid process (SP), is an uncommon and not yet widely recognized cause of ICA dissection. Up to now, this diagnosis is still presumptive, based mainly on the length of the SP. However, given the discrepancy between the much higher prevalence of an elongated SP in the population compared to the reported rate of Eagle syndrome, other anatomical factors beyond the length itself of this bony structure seem to be involved. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective single center case-control study of ICA dissection related to abnormalities of styloid process and age- and sex-matched controls affected by ICA dissection not related to abnormal relationship with the styloid process. In our work instead of considering SP length as the main criteria to differentiate the two groups, we decided to consider styloid process-internal carotid artery distance (at the dissection point) as the main factor to define a styloid process related dissection (SPRD). In fact in some patients, the distance between the dissected artery and the bony prominence was virtual. RESULTS: Our study showed that in patients with SPRD the styloid process angulation on the coronal plane tends to be more acute and that styloid process-C1 distance is significantly shorter at the side of the dissection. This data reinforces the idea that ICA dissection risk in the vascular Eagle syndrome has probably a multifactorial pathogenesis.

RESUMO

Eagle-Barrett Syndrome (EBS) is a rare congenital condition characterized by the triad of absent or defective abdominal wall muscles, urinary tract abnormalities, and bilateral cryptorchidism. Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is seldom reported in these patients, despite it being a common cause of childhood obstructive uropathy. We present the case of a patient with EBS who was subsequently identified as having symptomatic UPJO that was successfully treated with robotic pyeloplasty.
