RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Rhinoplasty is frequently performed worldwide, and patients and surgeons both expect good cosmetic results without any deformity recurrence. We report a rare case of mucous cyst occurred after post-traumatic rhinoseptoplasty. OBSERVATION: A 27-year old woman presented a median mass of the nose root 7 years after prior rhinoseptoplasty. Investigations showed a subcutaneous lesion of 10.5×24.5mm. The surgery consisted on an external rhinoplasty allowing cyst removal, bilateral osteotomies and reconstruction of the nasal dorsum by deep temporal fascia graft. Histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of begnin mucous cyst. No recurrence was observed at 1-year follow-up. DISCUSSION: Mucous cyst post rhinoplasty is rare and is probably due to accidental mucosal material implantation into the subcutaneous plane during rhinoplasty. This complication can be avoided by adequate infiltration and hydrodissection, careful dissection, and avoidance of unnecessary trauma during osteotomies.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: The objective of this study is to characterize Streptococcus pyogenes isolates with a mucoid phenotype and to compare them with non-mucoid isolates obtained between April and August 2016. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Identification and antimicrobial susceptibility were performed in all isolates. The emm type and exotoxin genes speA, speB, speC, speF, speG, speH, speJ, speZ and ssa were analyzed. Clinical and demographic data were collected. RESULTS: From 96 isolates analyzed, 47% had a mucoid phenotype and 95.5% of them presented speA-speB-speF-speG-ssa genes and emm3 genotype. The main clinical manifestation was pharyngotonsillitis (77.1%) evolving to scarlet fever in 67.5% of the cases. CONCLUSION: This study describes the circulation of a mucoid phenotype strain with a speA-speB-speF-speG-ssa toxin profile and emm3.1 genotype considered one of the most frequent and virulent of SGA.

RESUMO

Penile cysts are uncommon lesions. In general, they are asymptomatic and do not interfere with sexual function. Most of them are present since birth, but usually they are only detectable in adolescence or adulthood. We report a clinical rare case of a newborns of 4 days of birth with a 3.5 cm diameter nodule on the prepuce (dorsal face), which appeared of birth. The cyst was excised by circumcision and a histopathologic study was performed. Histopathologic examination revealed a mucoid cyst by ectopic urethral mucoid of penis skins. No recurrence was observed at a 6 months follow-up after of surgery.

The diagnosis of nerve tumor(s) must be suspected in all cases of tumefaction or pain on the path of a nerve exacerbated by percussion. Solitary nerve tumors are primarily schwannomas, but other rare tumors may be present such as intraneural ganglion cysts of controversial origin. Preservation of nerve continuity is the underlying goal for any surgical procedure, irrespective of the type of tumor. Therapeutic outcomes are closely linked to tumor resectability; in most patients, the resectability of the tumor, its type and benignity can be predicted based on medical imaging. Comparison with the clinical examination and case-based reasoning is crucial. Consequently, the aim of this review was to examine the role of imaging in isolated benign peripheral nerve tumors, and provide the surgeon with a practical guide for its application in predicting the nature and resectability of nerve tumors.
