RESUMO

The goal of comparative developmental biology is identifying mechanistic differences in embryonic development between different taxa and how these evolutionary changes have led to morphological and organizational differences in adult body plans. Much of this work has focused on direct-developing species in which the adult forms straight from the embryo and embryonic modifications have direct effects on the adult. However, most animal lineages are defined by indirect development, in which the embryo gives rise to a larval body plan and the adult forms by transformation of the larva. Historically, much of our understanding of complex life cycles is viewed through the lenses of ecology and zoology. In this review, we discuss the importance of establishing developmental rather than morphological or ecological criteria for defining developmental mode and explicitly considering the evolutionary implications of incorporating complex life cycles into broad developmental comparisons of embryos across metazoans.

Orientational order, encoded in anisotropic fields, plays an important role during the development of an organism. A striking example of this is the freshwater polyp Hydra, where topological defects in the muscle fiber orientation have been shown to localize to key features of the body plan. This body plan is organized by morphogen concentration gradients, raising the question how muscle fiber orientation, morphogen gradients and body shape interact. Here, we introduce a minimal model that couples nematic orientational order to the gradient of a morphogen field. We show that on a planar surface, alignment to a radial concentration gradient can induce unbinding of topological defects, as observed during budding and tentacle formation in Hydra, and stabilize aster/vortex-like defects, as observed at a Hydra's mouth. On curved surfaces mimicking the morphologies of Hydra in various stages of development-from spheroid to adult-our model reproduces the experimentally observed reorganization of orientational order. Our results suggest how gradient alignment and curvature effects may work together to control orientational order during development and lay the foundations for future modeling efforts that will include the tissue mechanics that drive shape deformations.

Whether or not someone turns out to vote depends on their beliefs (such as partisanship or sense of civic duty) and on friction-external barriers such as long travel distance to the polls. In this exploratory study, we tested whether people underestimate the effect of friction on turnout and overestimate the effect of beliefs. We surveyed a representative sample of eligible US voters before and after the 2020 election (n = 1,280). Participants' perceptions consistently underemphasized friction and overemphasized beliefs (mean d = 0.94). In participants' open-text explanations, 91% of participants listed beliefs, compared with just 12% that listed friction. In contrast, turnout was shaped by beliefs only slightly more than friction. The actual belief-friction difference was about one-fourth the size of participants' perceptions (d = 0.24). This bias emerged across a range of survey measures (open- and close-ended; other- and self-judgments) and was implicated in downstream consequences such as support for friction-imposing policies and failing to plan one's vote.

Ambulacrarians (echinoderms and hemichordates) are a sister group to chordates; thus, their larval cell-types may provide clues about evolution of chordate body plans. Although most genic information accumulated to date pertains to sea urchin embryogenesis, starfish embryogenesis represents a more ancestral mode than that of sea urchins. We performed single-cell RNA-seq analysis of cell-types from gastrulae and bipinnarial larvae of the starfish, Patiria pectinifera, and categorized them into 22 clusters, each of which is composed of cells with specific, shared profiles of development-relevant gene expression. Oral and aboral ectoderm, apical plate, hindgut or archenteron, midgut or intestine, pharynx, endomesoderm, stomodeum, and mesenchyme of the gastrulae, and neurons, ciliary bands, enterocoel and muscle of larvae were characterized by expression profiles of at least two relevant transcription factor genes and signaling molecular genes. Expression of Hox2, Hox7, Hox9/10, and Hox11/13b was detected in cells of clusters that form the larval enterocoel. By comparing homologous gene expression profiles in chordate embryos, we discuss and propose how the chordate body plan evolved from a deuterostome ancestor, from which the echinoderm body plan also evolved.

Cholera remains a significant public health concern in Ethiopia. More than 15.9 million Ethiopians, constituting 15% of the total population, live in areas with a history of recurrent cholera outbreaks. The last 9 years of national cholera surveillance data show the country has been experiencing cholera outbreaks every year. The current cholera outbreak, starting in August 2022, has affected the entire country, with 841 reported cases and a 3.13% case fatality rate (CFR) in 2022, and >30 000 cases with nearly a 1.4% CFR in 2023. In line with "Ending Cholera-A Global Roadmap to 2030," the government of Ethiopia is committed to eliminate cholera in the country and has prepared its "National Cholera Elimination Plan (NCP): 2022-2028" with aims to achieve zero local transmission in cholera hotspot areas by 2028 and 90% fatality reduction from the recent (2020-2022) average of 1.8% CFR. The plan is multisectoral, has a clear coordination platform, contains all interventions with in-depth situational analysis, is concordant with existing plans and strategies, and is cascaded at the regional level and implemented with existing government and public structures. Nationwide, total 118 cholera hotspot woredas (districts) were identified, and a comprehensive situation analysis of the existing cholera outbreak response capacity was assessed. This multisectoral and multiyear NCP has forecasted around US$404 million budget estimates with >90% allocated to improving the country's water, sanitation, and hygiene (US$222 million; 55% of total NCP budget) and case management (US$149 million; 37%). The cholera vaccination strategy included in the NCP exhibited a 5-year oral cholera vaccine (OCV) introduction plan with 2 doses (30 604 889 doses) and single dose (3 031 266 doses) in selected cholera hotspot areas. However, its implementation is challenged due to a lack of financial support, inability to get the requested vaccine for targeted hotspot woredas (due to the current shortage of doses in the OCV global stockpile), recurrent cholera outbreaks, and high humanitarian needs in the country. It is recommended to have a sustainable financial mechanism to support implementation, follow the requested vaccine doses, and reorganize the planned coordination platform to foster the implementation.

BACKGROUND: Providers must balance effective empiric therapy against toxicity risks and collateral damage when selecting antibiotic therapy for patients receiving hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). Antimicrobial stewardship interventions during HCT are often challenging due to concern for undertreating potential infections. METHODS: In an effort to decrease unnecessary carbapenem exposure for patients undergoing HCT at our pediatric center, we implemented individualized antibiotic plans (IAPs) to provide recommendations for preengraftment neutropenia prophylaxis, empiric treatment of febrile neutropenia, and empiric treatment for hemodynamic instability. We compared monthly antibiotic days of therapy (DOT) adjusted per 1000 patient-days for carbapenems, antipseudomonal cephalosporins, and all antibiotics during two 3-year periods immediately before and after the implementation of IAPs to measure the impact of IAP on prescribing behavior. Bloodstream infection (BSIs) and Clostridioides difficile (CD) positivity test rates were also compared between cohorts. Last, providers were surveyed to assess their experience of using IAPs in antibiotic decision making. RESULTS: Overall antibiotic use decreased after the implementation of IAPs (monthly reduction of 19.6 DOT/1000 patient-days; P = .004), with carbapenems showing a continuing decline after IAP implementation. BSI and CD positivity rates were unchanged. More than 90% of providers found IAPs to be either extremely or very valuable for their practice. CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of IAPs in this high-risk HCT population led to reduction in overall antibiotic use without increase in rate of BSI or CD test positivity. The program was well received by providers.

Healthcare transition is the purposeful and planned process for preparing young adults with Down syndrome for an adult oriented healthcare system. Significant gaps of a delayed, incomplete, siloed and decentered transition can be avoided when transition is approached in a longitudinal and holistic manner. Young adults with Down syndrome are specifically vulnerable to these gaps as the combination of intellectual differences and healthcare complexity leads to the need for a process that allows for appropriate preparation to develop the skills and process for an appropriate. To establish a successful transition care plan, the six core elements of policy, tracking, readiness, planning, transfer of care, and complete transition will compose the scaffolding of the transition process and address these gaps in care. A comprehensive tool kit including policy statements, healthcare transition tracking forms, the TRAQ tool, and template portable medical summaries will operationalize those elements and counteract any gaps in the transition process.

The XVIth Banff Meeting for Allograft Pathology was held in Banff, Alberta, Canada, from September 19 to 23, 2022, as a joint meeting with the Canadian Society of Transplantation. In addition to a key focus on the impact of microvascular inflammation and biopsy-based transcript analysis on the Banff Classification, further sessions were devoted to other aspects of kidney transplant pathology, in particular T cell-mediated rejection, activity and chronicity indices, digital pathology, xenotransplantation, clinical trials, and surrogate endpoints. Although the output of these sessions has not led to any changes in the classification, the key role of Banff Working Groups in phrasing unanswered questions, and coordinating and disseminating results of investigations addressing these unanswered questions was emphasized. This paper summarizes the key Banff Meeting 2022 sessions not covered in the Banff Kidney Meeting 2022 Report paper and also provides an update on other Banff Working Group activities relevant to kidney allografts.

Given the increasing burden of liver cancer in Europe, it is crucial to investigate how social determinants of health (SDoH) affect liver cancer risk factors and access to care in order to improve health outcomes equitably. This paper summarises the available evidence on the differential distribution of liver cancer risk factors, incidence, and health outcomes in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom from an SDoH perspective. Vulnerable and marginalised populations have low socio-economic and educational levels and are the most affected by liver cancer risk factors. Reasons for this include varied access to hepatitis B virus vaccination and limited access to viral hepatitis B and C screening, harm reduction, and treatment. Additionally, alcohol-related liver disease remains highly prevalent among individuals with low education, insecure employment, economic instability, migrants, and deprived populations. Moreover, significant variation exists across Europe in the proportion of adults with steatotic liver disease, overweight/obesity, and diabetes, based on geographical area, gender, socio-economic and educational background, and density of ultra-processed food outlets. Inequities in cirrhosis mortality rates have been reported, with the highest death rates among individuals living in socio-economically disadvantaged areas and those with lower educational levels. Furthermore, insufficient healthcare access for key populations with primary liver cancer is influenced by complex healthcare systems, stigmatisation, discrimination, low education, language barriers, and fear of disclosure. These challenges contribute to inequities in liver cancer care pathways. Future studies are needed to explore the different SDoH-interlinked effects on liver cancer incidence and outcomes in European countries. The ultimate goal is to develop evidence-based multilevel public health interventions that reduce the SDoH impact in precipitating and perpetuating the disproportionate burden of liver cancer in specific populations.

The detection of toxic, harmful, explosive, and volatile gases cannot be separated from gas sensors, and gas sensors are also used to monitor the greenhouse effect and air pollution. However, existing gas sensors remain with many drawbacks, such as lower sensitivity, lower selectivity, and unstable room temperature detection. Thus, there is an imperative need to find more suitable sensing materials. The emergence of a new 2D layered material MXenes has brought dawn to solve this problem. The multiple advantages of MXenes, namely high specific surface area, enriched terminal functionality groups, hydrophilicity, and good electrical conductivity, make them among the most prolific gas-sensing materials. Therefore, this review paper describes the current main synthesis methods of MXenes materials, and focuses on summarizing and organizing the latest research results of MXenes in gas sensing applications. It also introduces the possible gas sensing mechanisms of MXenes materials on NH3 , NO2 , CH3 , and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In conclusion, it provides insight into the problems and upcoming challenges of MXenes materials for gas sensing.

BACKGROUND: The Mediterranean diet (MD), known to prevent obesity, overweight and the related non communicable diseases (NCD), is based on typical dishes, foods and on a common cultural milieu. Although MD is the basis of dietary guidelines, the prevalence of obesity, overweight and NCD, is increasing both in Western regions, and even more in Middle Eastern regions (MER). This study aimed to analyze (i) the impact of different levels of adherence to the MD, in Italy and MER, on body mass index (BMI) (ii) the bromatological composition of a simulated 7-days food plan (7-DFP) based on Italian or MER typical meals, following MD criteria and the Italian or MER food base dietary guideline; (iii) the optimization of nutrients impacting on NCD. METHODS: The 7-DFPs were implemented using a dietary software. The association between adherence to MD and BMI was evaluated by pooled estimated ORs (with 95% confidence intervals and p-values). Pooled measures were obtained by the methods appropriate for meta-analysis. The different food-based guidelines have been compared. RESULTS: The pooled ORs of obese status comparing medium vs. high adherence to MD were: 1.19 (95% C.I.: 0.99; 1.42, p-value = 0.062) and 1.12 (95% C.I.: 0.90; 1.38, p-value = 0.311) for MER and Italy respectively. For the comparison of low vs. high adherence, the pooled ORs were 1.05 (95% C.I.: 0.88; 1.24, p-value = 0.598) for MER, and 1.20 (95% C.I.: 1.02; 1.41, p-value = 0.031) for Italy when outliers are removed. High adherence to the MD resulted as potential protective factor against obesity. In MER 7-DFP: total fats is higher (34.5 E%) vs. Italian 7-DFP (29.4 E%); EPA (20 mg) and DHA (40 mg) are lower than recommended (200 mg each); sugars (12.6 E%) are higher than recommended (< 10 E%). Calcium, Zinc, and vitamin D do not reach target values in both 7-DFPs. CONCLUSION: This study highlights that, even when 7-DFPs follow MD and refer to nutrient needs, it is necessary to verify nutrient excesses or deficits impacting on NCD. High MD adherence is protective toward NCDs. MD principles, and energy balance should be communicated according to socioeconomic and educational levels.

In the United States, modelling studies suggest a high prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in incarcerated populations. However, limited HCV testing has been conducted in prisons. Through the Louisiana Hepatitis C Elimination Plan, persons incarcerated in the eight state prisons were offered HCV testing from 20 September 2019 to 14 July 2022, and facility entry/exit HCV testing was introduced. Multivariable logistic regression was used to evaluate associations with HCV antibody (anti-HCV) positivity and viremia. Of 17,231 persons in the eight state prisons screened for anti-HCV, 95.1% were male, 66.7% were 30-57 years old, 3% were living with HIV, 68.2% were Black and 2904 (16.9%) were anti-HCV positive. HCV RNA was detected in 69.3% of anti-HCV positive individuals tested. In the multivariable model, anti-HCV positivity was associated with older age including those 30-57 (odds ratio [OR] 3.53, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.96-4.20) and those ≥58 (OR 10.43, 95% CI 8.66-12.55) as compared to those ≤29 years of age, living with HIV (OR 1.68, 95% CI 1.36-2.07), hepatitis B (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.25-2.69) and syphilis (OR 1.51, 95% CI 1.23-1.86). HCV viremia was associated with male sex (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.36-2.63) and Black race (OR 1.42, 95% CI 1.20-1.68). HCV prevalence was high in the state prisons in Louisiana compared to community estimates. To the extent that Louisiana is representative, to eliminate HCV in the United States, it will be important for incarcerated persons to have access to HCV testing and treatment.

OBJECTIVE: In 2019, the management of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) shifted away from "Fistula First" (FF) to "ESKD Life-Plan: Patient Life-Plan First then Access Needs." Indeed, some patients exhibit such excessive comorbidity that even relatively minor vascular surgery may be complicated. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively assess complications and mortality (and delineate operative futility) in patients undergoing arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation in the FF era. METHODS: Consecutive AVFs created in a single institution before 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. Operative futility was defined as never-accessed fistula, no initiation of dialysis, failure of access maturation (despite secondary intervention), hemodialysis access-induced distal ischemia requiring ligation, early loss of secondary patency, and/or patient mortality within the first 6 postoperative months. RESULTS: A total of 401 AVFs were created including radial-cephalic (44%), brachial-cephalic (41%), and brachial-basilic (15%) constructions. Patients exhibited a mean age of 69 ± 15 years; 63% were male, and most (74%) were already being hemodialyzed at the time of fistula creation. Forty-five patients (11%) suffered a cardiac event, and five patients died (1%) within 90 days of their access surgery. Perioperative cardiac events were significantly more common after age 80 (19% vs 8%; P = .004); age >80 years was an independent predictor of major 90-day complications (odds ratio [OR], 1.88; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04-3.39; P = .036) and the sole independent predictor of major morbidity defined as cardiopulmonary complications, stroke, or death within the first year (OR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.24-3.25; P = .004). Operative futility was encountered in 52% of the cohort (n = 208 patients): 40% (n = 160) of primary AVFs failed to mature despite assistance, 19% (n = 77) had lost secondary patency by 6 months, 13% of patients (n = 53) were never started on dialysis after access creation, 4% (n = 16) were dead by 6 months, 2% of AVFs (n = 10) matured but were never accessed, and 2% (n = 9) required ligation for hemodialysis access-induced distal ischemia. Not surprisingly, the sole independent protector against operative futility was that catheter-based dialysis had been established prior to AVF creation (OR, 0.36; 95% CI, 0.22-0.59; P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 50% of primary AVF operations performed in the aggressive FF era were deemed futile. Octogenarians were particularly prone to futility and complications during this era. A paradigm shift, from FF to an "ESKD Life-Plan" will, hopefully, more thoughtfully match vascular access strategies to individual patient needs.

BACKGROUND: Hyperthermia treatment planning can be supportive to ensure treatment quality, provided reliable prediction of the heating characteristics (i.e., focus size and effects of phase-amplitude and frequency steering) of the device concerned is possible. This study validates the predictions made by the treatment planning system Plan2Heat for various clinically used phased-array systems. METHODS: The evaluated heating systems were AMC-2, AMC-4/ALBA-4D (Med-Logix srl, Rome, Italy), BSD Sigma-30, and Sigma-60 (Pyrexar Medical, Salt Lake City, UT, USA). Plan2Heat was used for specific absorption rate (SAR) simulations in phantoms representing measurement set-ups reported in the literature. SAR profiles from published measurement data based on E­field or temperature rise were used to compare the device-specific heating characteristics predicted by Plan2Heat. RESULTS: Plan2Heat is able to predict the correct location and size of the SAR focus, as determined by phase-amplitude settings and operating frequency. Measured effects of phase-amplitude steering on focus shifts (i.e., local SAR minima or maxima) were also correctly reflected in treatment planning predictions. Deviations between measurements and simulations were typically < 10-20%, which is within the range of experimental uncertainty for such phased-array measurements. CONCLUSION: Plan2Heat is capable of adequately predicting the heating characteristics of the AMC­2, AMC-4/ALBA-4D, BSD Sigma-30, and Sigma-60 phased-array systems routinely used in clinical hyperthermia.

PURPOSE: Automated treatment planning for multiple brain metastases differs from traditional planning approaches. It is therefore helpful to understand which parameters for optimization are available and how they affect the plan quality. This study aims to provide a reference for designing multi-metastases treatment plans and to define quality endpoints for benchmarking the technique from a scientific perspective. METHODS: In all, 20 patients with a total of 183 lesions were retrospectively planned according to four optimization scenarios. Plan quality was evaluated using common plan quality parameters such as conformity index, gradient index and dose to normal tissue. Therefore, different scenarios with combinations of optimization parameters were evaluated, while taking into account dependence on the number of treated lesions as well as influence of different beams. RESULTS: Different scenarios resulted in minor differences in plan quality. With increasing number of lesions, the number of monitor units increased, so did the dose to healthy tissue and the number of interlesional dose bridging in adjacent metastases. Highly modulated cases resulted in 4-10% higher V10% compared to less complex cases, while monitor units did not increase. Changing the energy to a flattening filter free (FFF) beam resulted in lower local V12Gy (whole brain-PTV) and even though the number of monitor units increased by 13-15%, on average 46% shorter treatment times were achieved. CONCLUSION: Although no clinically relevant differences in parameters where found, we identified some variation in the dose distributions of the different scenarios. Less complex scenarios generated visually more dose overlap; therefore, a more complex scenario may be preferred although differences in the quality metrics appear minor.

BACKGROUND: Treatment summaries and a personalized survivorship care plans based on internationally approved, organ-specific follow-up care recommendations are essential in preserving the health and quality of life for cancer survivors. Cohorts made up of survivors of childhood cancer have made significant contributions to the understanding of early mortality, somatic late complications, and psychosocial outcomes among former patients. New treatment protocols are needed to enhance survival and reduce the potential risk and severity of late effects, and working with treatment databases is crucial in doing so. CONSTRUCTION AND CONTENT: In the GOCE (Grand Ouest Cancer de l'Enfant [Western Region Childhood Cancer]) network, in a participative approach, we developed the LOG-after medical tool, on which health data are registered and can be extracted for analysis. Its name emphasizes the tool's goal, referring to 'logiciel' (the French word for software) that focuses on the period "after" the acute phase. This tool is hosted on a certified health data server. Several interfaces have been developed that can be used depending on the user's profile. Here we present this innovative co-constructed tool that takes national aspects into account, including the results of the feasibility/satisfaction study and its perspective. UTILITY AND DISCUSSION: The database contains data relating to 2558 patients, with samples from 1702 of these (66.54%) being held in a tumor bank. The average year in which treatment started was 2015 (ranging from December 1967 to November 2022: 118 patients were treated before 2012 and registered retrospectively when seen in long-term follow-up consultations or for another cancer since November 2021). A short questionnaire was distributed to healthcare professionals using the tool (physicians and research associates or technicians, n = 14), of whom 11 answered and were all satisfied. Access to the patient interface is currently open to 124 former patients. This was initially offered to 30 former patients who were over 15 years old, affected by the disease within the last 5 years, and had agreed to test it. Their opinions were collected by their doctor by e-mail, telephone, or during a consultation in an open-ended question and a non-directive interview. All patients were satisfied with the tool, with interest in testing it in the long term. Some former patients found that the tool provided them with some ease of mind; one, for instance, commented: "I feel lighter. I allow myself to forget. I know I will get a notification when the time comes." CONCLUSIONS: Freely available to all users, LOG-after: (1) provides help with determining personalized survivorship care plans for follow-up; (2) builds links with general practitioners; (3) empowers the patient; and (4) enables health data to be exported for analysis. Roots are a highly organised plant tissue consisting of different cell types with distinct developmental functions defined by cell identity networks. Roots are the target of some of the most devastating diseases and possess a highly effective immune system. The recognition of microbe- or plant-derived molecules released in response to microbial attack is highly important in the activation of complex immunity gene networks. Development and immunity are intertwined, and immunity activation can result in growth inhibition. In turn, by connecting immunity and cell identity regulators, cell types are able to launch a cell type-specific immunity based on the developmental function of each cell type. By this strategy, fundamental developmental processes of each cell type contribute their most basic functions to drive cost-effective but highly diverse and, thus, efficient immune responses. This review highlights the interdependence of root development and immunity and how the developmental age of root cells contributes to positive and negative outcomes of development-immunity cross-talk.

INTRODUCTION: Although substantial progress has been achieved to bring surgical care to the forefront of global health discussions, a number of low-and middle-income countries are still in the process of developing a National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP). This paper describes the initial step toward the development of the NSOAP through the creation of the Kenya National Hospital Assessment Tool (K-HAT). METHODS: A study protocol was developed by a multisectoral collaborative group that represented the pillars of surgical capacity development in Kenya. The K-HAT was adapted from two World Health Organization (WHO) tools: the Service Availability and Readiness Assessment tool and the Situational Analysis Tool. The survey tool was deployed on Open Data Kit, an open-source electronic encrypted database. This new locally adapted tool was pilot tested in three hospitals in Kenya and subsequently deployed in Level 4 facilities. RESULTS: Eighty-nine questions representing over 800 data points divided into six WHO Health Systems Strengthening sections comprised the K-HAT which was deployed to over 95% of Level 4 hospitals in Kenya. When compared to the WHO Service Availability and Readiness Assessment tool, the K-HAT collected more detailed information. The pilot test team reported that K-HAT was easy to administer, easily understood by the respondents, and that it took approximately 1 hour to collect data from each facility. CONCLUSIONS: The K-HAT collected comprehensive information that can be used to develop Kenya's NSOAP.

INTRODUCTION: Recruitment is complete in the fourth INTEnsive ambulance-delivered blood pressure Reduction in hyper-ACute stroke Trial (INTERACT4), a multicenter, prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded endpoint assessed trial of prehospital blood pressure (BP) lowering initiated in the ambulance for patients with a suspected acute stroke and elevated BP in China. According to the registered and published trial protocol and developed by the blinded trial Steering Committee and Operations team, this manuscript outlines a detailed statistical analysis plan for the trial prior to database lock. METHODS: Patients were randomized (1:1) to intensive (target systolic BP 130-140 mm Hg within 30 min) or guideline-recommended BP management (BP lowering only considered if systolic BP >220 mm Hg) group. Primary outcome is an ordinal analysis of the full range of scores on the modified Rankin scale at 90 days. A modified sample size of 2,320 was estimated to provide 90% power to detect a 22% reduction in the odds (common odds ratio of 0.78) of a worse functional outcome using ordinal logistic regression, on the assumption of 5% patients with missing outcome and 6% patients with a stroke mimic. CONCLUSION: The statistical analysis plan for the trial has been developed to ensure transparent, verifiable, and prespecified analysis and to avoid potential bias in the evaluation of the trial intervention.

International and national oncofertility networks, including the US-led Oncofertility Consortium, FertiProtekt, and the Danish Network, have played pivotal roles in advancing the discipline of oncofertility over the last decade. Many other countries lack a shared approach to pediatric oncofertility health service delivery. This study aims to describe baseline oncofertility practices at Australian New Zealand Children's Haematology/Oncology Group centers in 2019-2021, describe binational priorities for care, and propose a 5-year action plan for best practice to be implemented by the newly formed Australian New Zealand Consortium in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults (CAYA) Oncofertility (ANZCO).
