RESUMO

Although Zr-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit robust chemical and physical stability in the presence of moisture and acidic conditions, their susceptibility to nucleophilic attacks from bases poses a critical challenge to their overall stability. Herein, we systematically investigate the stability of Zr-based UiO-66 (UiO = University of Oslo) MOFs in basic solutions. The impact of 11 standard bases, including inorganic salts and organic bases, on the stability of these MOFs is examined. The destruction of the framework is confirmed through powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns, and the monitored dissolution of ligands from the framework is assessed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Our key findings reveal a direct correlation between the strength and concentration of the base and the destruction of the MOFs. The summarized data provide valuable insights that can guide the practical application of Zr-based UiO-66 MOFs under basic conditions, offering essential information for their optimal utilization in various settings.

RESUMO

Applications of superhydrophobic (SHS) and lubricant infused surfaces (LIS) involve exposure to corrosive environments from the acidic to the basic, at a range of temperatures, that are not fully characterized. We present for the first time a multifactorial study of the effects of surface fabrication method, surface modification, surface functionalization time, temperature and pH of the immersion medium on the corrosion performance of nonwetting copper surfaces. Bioinspired SHS and LIS fabricated using facile methods of etching and electrodeposition are systematically assessed using potentiodynamic polarization measurements for their corrosion resistance in saline solution (pH≈ 7) over a temperature range 23-85 °C. SHS and LIS are shown to exhibit diminished corrosion rate, by up to two orders of magnitude, compared to bare copper surface. An Arrhenius model is developed for the first time, describing the temperature-dependent corrosion rate of SHS and LIS. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is used to show that corrosion resistance of LIS is larger by three orders of magnitude in extremely acidic (pH = 1) and by an order magnitude in extremely alkaline (pH = 14) media compared to bare copper surface. Etched LIS are generally more resistant to corrosion compared to SHS at all temperatures with excellent microstructural durability.

RESUMO

Graphene oxide-silver nanoparticle nanohybrids were synthesized by simple reduction of the silver nitrate and graphene oxide (GO) mixture in water using the mild reducing agent ascorbic acid. The concentration of ascorbic acid was varied to verify the possible influence of the GO surface composition on the efficiency of the hybrid material as substrates for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Furthermore, the composites were conditioned in ammonia solution or in potassium hydroxide diluted solution. For comparison, the graphene oxide-silver nanoparticle composite has been synthesized using the ammonia-treated GO. All materials were characterized using spectroscopic and microscopic methods including UV-Vis, infrared, and Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The SERS efficiency of the nanohybrids was tested using 4-aminothiophenol (PATP). The optimal synthesis conditions were found. Ammonia and potassium peroxide drop-casted on the composite changed the SERS properties. The sample treated with KOH showed the best SERS enhancement. The variation of the SERS enhancement was correlated with the shape of the UV-Vis characteristics and the surface structure of the composites.
