RESUMO

Lithium (Li) dendritic growth and huge volume expansion seriously hamper Li-metal anode development. Herein, we design a lightweight 3D Li-ion-affinity host enabled by silver (Ag) nanoparticles fully decorating a porous melamine sponge (Ag@PMS) for dendrite-free and high-areal-capacity Li anodes. The compact Ag nanoparticles provide abundant preferred nucleation sites and give the host strong conductivity. Moreover, the high specific surface area and polar groups of the elastic, porous melamine sponge enhance the Li-ion diffusion kinetics, prompting homogeneity of Li deposition and stripping. As expected, the integrated 3D Ag@PMS-Li anode delivered a remarkable electrochemical performance, with a Coulombic efficiency (CE) of 97.14% after 450 cycles at 1 mA cm-2. The symmetric cell showed an ultralong lifespan of 3400 h at 1 mA cm-2 for 1 mAh cm-2. This study provides a facile and cost-effective strategy to design an advanced 3D framework for the preparation of a stable dendrite-free Li metal anode.

RESUMO

In this study, a covalent organic framework (COF)-TpBD-supported melamine sponge (MS) was fabricated through a one-step hydrothermal method. The obtained monolithic column was then applied in in-syringe solid-phase extraction (IS-SPE) for the separation of three volatile ingredients from serum samples. Given credit for the superior adsorption capacity of the COF and the homogeneous microporous property of MS, the developed column exhibited satisfactory separation of the targets. And the dominating adsorption mechanism was the hydrophobic interaction forces between TpBD and targets and the high mass transfer efficiency provided by the large pore structure of MS. The results of dynamic adsorption showed that the MS@TpBD column displayed much better adsorption performance than blank MS and TpBD. And it has featured great reusability up to 5 cycles and obtained satisfied recovery values (87.9 ~ 110.3%) in serum samples. As a result of sample clean-up, this column offers low limit of detections (LODs) down to 0.014, 0.010, and 0.020 µg/mL, respectively. In summary, we believe that this convenient separation column has prominent application promise in the fields of separating activity ingredients in biological samples.

RESUMO

The rapidly increased interest in multifunctional nanoelectronic devices, such as wearable monitors, smart robots, and electronic skin, motivated many researchers toward the development of several kinds of sensors in recent years. Flexibility, stability, sensitivity, and low cost are the most important demands for exploiting stretchable or compressible strain sensors. This article describes the formation and characteristics of a flexible, low-cost strain sensor by combining a commercial melamine sponge and a graphene/carbon nanotubes hybrid. The composite that emerged by doping the highly elastic melamine sponge with a highly conductive graphene/carbon nanotubes hybrid showed excellent piezoresistive behavior, with low resistivity of 22 kΩ m. Its function as a piezoresistive material exhibited a high sensitivity of 0.050 kPa-1 that combined with a wide detection area ranging between 0 to 50 kPa.

RESUMO

COVID-19 has drawn great attention on the necessity for establishing pathogen-free indoor air. This paper offers an insight into the potential application of a multi-purpose filter to remove fine particulates and disinfect pathogens using melamine sponge with a copper-organic framework. In-situ growth dip coating method was applied to coat Cu-based coordination polymer particle (Cu-CPP) on melamine sponge (MS). The integration of Cu-CPPs with high crystallinity and highly active surface area (1,318.1 m2/g) enabled Cu-CPP/MS to have an excellent capture rate (99.66%) and an instant disinfection rate of 99.54% for Escherichia coli. Electrostatic attraction seemed to play a crucial role in capturing negative-charged pathogens effectively by positive charges on Cu-CPP arising from unbalanced copper ions in Cu-CPP. Disinfection of pathogens was mainly attributed to catalytically active Cu2+ sites. Organic ligand played an important role in bridging and maintaining Cu2+ ions within the framework. This study highlights the design of a new capture-and-disinfection (CDS) air filter system for pathogens using Cu-CPP/MS. It can be applied as a substitute for conventional high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. RESUMO

The development of durable and high-performance absorbents forin situoil-water separation is of critical importance for addressing severe water pollution in daily life as well as for solving accidental large-scale oil spillages. Herein, we demonstrate a simple and scalable approach to fabricate magnetic-responsive superhydrophobic melamine sponges byin situdeposition of PDA coatings and Fe3O4nanoparticles, followed by surface silanization with low surface energy 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (PTOS) layer. The prepared melamine sponge composite (PTOS-Fe3O4@PDA/MF) not only exhibits a very high water contact angle of 165 ± 1.5° and an excellent ability to uptake a variety of oils and organic solvents (e.g. up to 141.1 g/g for chloroform), but also shows robust durability and superior recyclability. The PTOS-Fe3O4@PDA/MF sponge can also efficiently separate oils (or organic solvents) and water, as demonstrated by different model systems including immiscible oil-water solution mixture and miscible water-oil (W/O) emulsion (stabilized by surfactants). Furthermore, the PTOS-Fe3O4@PDA/MF sponge is able toin siturecover organics from water using a peristaltic pump, which gives it significant advantages over other traditional batch processes for oil-water separation. We believe that the PTOS-Fe3O4@PDA/MF sponge provides a very promising material solution to address oil-water separation, especially for the large-scale problems that have been long-time challenges with conventional sorption methods.

RESUMO

A new procedure for the functionalization of melamine sponge (MeS) with urea-formaldehyde (UF) co-oligomers is put forward. The procedure differs from the typical synthesis of the UF co-polymer, as it employs a base-catalyzed condensation step at certain concentrations of urea and formaldehyde. The produced melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) sponge cubes are hydrophobic, despite the presence of hydrophilic groups in the oligomers. The MUF sponge developed herein is used as a sorbent for the solid-phase extraction of 10 analytes, from 6 different classes (i.e., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, benzophenones, parabens, phenols, pesticides and musks) and an analytical method is developed for their liquid chromatographic separation and detection. Low limits of quantification (0.03 and 1.0 µg L-1), wide linear ranges and excellent recoveries (92⁻100%) are some of the benefits of the proposed procedure. The study of the synthesis conditions of MUF cubes reveals that by altering them the hydrophilic/lipophilic balance of the MUF cubes can be tuned, hinting towards a strong potential for many other applications.

RESUMO

Frequent oil spillages and the industrial discharge of organic solvents have not only caused severe environmental and ecological damage, but also create a risk of fire and explosion. Therefore, it is imperative, but also challenging, to find high-performance absorbent materials that are both effective and less flammable. Here we present a superior superhydrophobic sponge that exhibits excellent absorption performance through a combination of its superhydrophobicity, high porosity, and robust stability. More importantly, it inherits the intrinsic flame-retardant nature of the raw melamine sponge, and is thus expected to reduce the risk of fire and explosion when being used as an absorbent for flammable oils and organic compounds. Moreover, the fabrication of this sponge is easy to scale up, since it does not use a complicated process or sophisticated equipment. These characteristics make the sponge a much more competitive product than the commercial absorbent, nonwoven polypropylene fabric.

RESUMO

Oil and industrial wastewater spills have caused serious ecological impacts, thus superhydrophobic materials are paid much attention for their unique oil/water selective adsorption properties. Herein, we propose a green and efficient method for preparing superhydrophobic adsorbents for oil/water separation. Superhydrophobic melamine sponges (SMS) were prepared by in situ growth of nanosilica on melamine sponge skeletons followed by surface modification with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HTMS). The contact angle, oil-water separation, oil absorption, recyclability, acid resistance and alkali resistance of SMS were characterised to evaluate its performance. These results showed that the prepared SMS not only exhibits superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 152°, but also has a strong adsorption capacity of 42-105 times its own weight for various oils and organic reagents, and outstanding recoverability with a retention of adsorption capacity of about 98% after 20 repeated cycles. In addition, it exhibits excellent environmental tolerance over a wide pH range. These excellent properties make it valuable for practical applications in the field of oil-water separation.

RESUMO

The self-assembled aerogels are considered as an efficient strategy to address the aggregation and restacking of Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets for high-performance supercapacitors. However, the low mechanical strength of the MXene aerogel results in the structural collapse of the self-standing supercapacitor electrode materials. Herein, a low-cost melamine sponge (MS) absorbed different cations (H+, K+, Mg2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Al3+), serves as a carrier and crosslinker for loading MXene hydrogel induced by the absorbed cations on the skeleton surface and the pores of MS, resulting in the high loading mass MXene aerogels with high mechanical strength. The experimental results show that the Mg-Ti3C2Tx@MS aerogel exhibits the maximum area capacitance of 702.22 mF cm-2 at 3 mA cm-2, and the area capacitance is still 603.12 mF cm-2 even at 100 mA cm-2, indicating the high rate capability with a capacitance retention of 85.89 %. It is worth noting that the constructed asymmetric supercapacitor with activated carbon achieves high energy densities of 104.53 µWh cm-2 and 93.87 µWh cm-2 at 800 µW cm-2 and 7999 µW cm-2, respectively. Furthermore, the asymmetric supercapacitor shows the high cycling stability with 90.2 % capacity retention after 10,000 cycles. This work provides a feasible strategy to prepare Ti3C2Tx MXene aerogels with large layer spacing and high strength for high-performance supercapacitors.

RESUMO

This paper proposes the preparation of a new sorbent material based on melamine sponges (MS) with superhydrophobic, superoleophilic, and magnetic properties. This study involved impregnating the surface of commercially available MS with eco-friendly deep eutectic solvents (DES) and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The DES selection was based on the screening of 105 eutectic mixtures using COSMO-RS modeling. Other parameters affecting the efficiency and selectivity of oil removal from water were optimized using the Box-Bhenken model. Menthol:Thymol (1:1)@Fe3O4-MS exhibited the highest sorption capacity for real crude oils (101.7-127.3 g/g). This new sponge demonstrated paramagnetic behavior (31.06 emu/g), superhydrophobicity (151°), superoleophobicity (0°), low density (15.6 mg/cm3), high porosity (99 %), and excellent mechanical stability. Furthermore, it allows multiple regeneration processes without losing its sorption capacity. Based on these benefits, Menthol:Thymol (1:1)@Fe3O4-MS shows promise as an efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly substitute for the existing sorbents.

RESUMO

Effective capturing of anionic pollutants from wastewater under industrial operating conditions, which requires high processing flux and fast adsorption rate remains a challenge. Here, a commercially available melamine sponge (MS) with reticulated 3D macroporous structures was covalently modified with positively charged moieties using a single step functionalization under mild conditions. The developed novel polycationic melamine sponge (MS+) was formed by a nucleophilic addition reaction between glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GMTA) and MS, followed by a self-propagation of GMTA. The produced MS+ possessed strong electrostatic interactions with different anions such as Rose Bengal (RB) and phosphates (P) under a wide pH range (3-11). The MS+ exhibited promoted static adsorption efficiencies of 400 mg g-1 (P) and 600 mg g-1 (RB), within 5 min and 60 s, respectively. Furthermore, the MS+ showed high stability and recyclability for up to 15 cycles of uses, and the recycling process was environmentally friendly by using 1 M NaCl as a releasing solution. Benefiting from fast flow through the macroporous MS+ and highly positive charged skeleton, the MS+ was applied for rapid dynamic enrichment process of P from real manure wastewater with an enrichment factor of 4.4. Utilization of the MS+ as the substrate brings additional advantages such as low cost, availability, and flexibility to fit into existing filtration devices. The developed MS+ could be expanded for enrichments of other anionic species from various polluted water sources.

RESUMO

Effectively addressing crude oil spills remains a global challenge due to its high viscosity and limited flow characteristics. In this study, we successfully prepared a modified sponge (PCP@MS) by embedding the photothermal material of Co-HHTP and coating the melamine sponge (MS) with low-surface-energy polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The PCP@MS exhibited outstanding hydrophobicity with WCA of 160.2° and high oil absorption capacity of 59-107 g/g. The PCP@MS showed high separation efficiency of 99.2% for various oil-water mixtures, along with notable self-cleaning properties and mechanical stability. The internal micro-nano hierarchical structure on the sponge surface significantly enhanced light absorption, synergizing with the photo-thermal conversion properties of Co-HHTP, enabled PCP@MS to achieve a surface temperature of 109.2 °C under 1.0 solar light within 300 s. With the aid of solar radiation, PCP@MS is able to heat up quickly and successfully lowering the viscosity of the surrounding crude oil, resulting in an oil recovery rate of 8.76 g/min. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results revealed that Co-HHTP featured a zero-gap band structure, rendering advantageous electronic properties for full-wavelength light absorption. This in situ solar-heated absorbent design is poised to advance the practical application of viscous oil spill cleanup and recovery.

RESUMO

Oil/water separation processes have garnered significant global attention due to the quick growth in industrial development, recurring chemical leakages, and oil spills. Hence, there is a significant demand for the development of inexpensive superwetting materials in an eco-friendly manner to separate oil/water mixtures and emulsions. In this study, a superwetting melamine sponge (SMS) with switchable wettabilities was prepared by modifying melamine sponge (MS) with sodium dodecanoate. The as-prepared SMS exhibited superhydrophobicity, superoleophilicity, underwater superoleophobicity, and underoil superhydrophobicity. The SMS can be utilized in treating both light and heavy oil/water mixtures through the prewetting process. It demonstrated fast permeation fluxes (reaching 108,600 L m-2 h-1 for a light oil/water mixture and 147,700 L m-2 h-1 for a heavy oil/water mixture) and exhibited good separation efficiency (exceeding 99.56%). The compressed SMS was employed in separating surfactant-stabilized water-in-oil emulsions (SWOEs), as well as surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions (SOWEs), giving high permeation fluxes (reaching 7210 and 5054 L m-2 h-1, respectively). The oil purity for SWOEs' filtrates surpassed 99.98 wt% and the separation efficiencies of SOWEs exceeded 98.84%. Owing to their remarkable capability for separating oil/water mixtures and emulsions, eco-friendly fabrication method, and feasibility for large-scale production, our SMS has a promising potential for practical applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The convenient preparation and application of functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid monolithic materials have obtained substantial interest in the pretreatment of complex samples by solid-phase extraction (SPE). Compared to the in-tube solid-phase microextraction in fused-silica capillaries, micro SPE in plastic pipette tips have fascinating merits for the easily operated enrichment of trace target analytes from biological samples. However, the poor compatibility of organic-inorganic hybrid monoliths with plastics leads to the rare appearance of commercial hybrid monolithic pipette tips (HMPTs). Therefore, how to synthesize the organic-inorganic hybrid monolithic materials with better extraction performance in plastic pipette tips becomes a challenge. RESULTS: We develop a facile and cheap strategy to immobilize organic-inorganic hybrid monoliths in pipette tips. Melamine sponge was employed as the supporting skeleton to in situ assemble amine- and thiol-bifunctionalized hybrid monolithic material via "one pot" in a pipette tip, and gold nanoparticles (GNPs) and thiol-modified aptamer against human α-thrombin were sequentially attached to the hybrid monolith within the HMPTs. The average coverage density of the aptamer with GNPs as an intermediary reached as high as 818.5 pmol µL-1. The enriched thrombin concentration was determined by a sensitive enzymatic chromogenic assay with the limit of detection of 2 nM. The extraction recovery of thrombin at 10 nM in human serum was 86.1 % with a relative standard deviation of 6.1 %. This proposed protocol has been applied to the enrichment and determination of thrombin in real serum sample with strong anti-interference ability, low limit of detection and high recovery. SIGNIFICANCE: The amine- and thiol-bifunctionalized HMPTs prepared with sponge as the skeleton frame provided a novel substrate material to decorate aptamers for efficient enrichment of proteins. This enlightens us that we can take advantage of the tunability of sponge assisted HMPTs to produce and tailor a variety of micro SPE pipette tips for broader applications on the analysis of trace targets in complex biological, clinic and environmental samples.

RESUMO

Since the potential carcinogenic, toxic and non-degradable dyes trigger serious environmental contamination by improper treatment, developing novel adsorbents remains a major challenge. A novel high efficiency and biopolymer-based environmental-friendly adsorbent, chitosansodium tripolyphosphate-melamine sponge (CTS-STPP-MS) composite, was prepared for Orange II removing with chitosan as raw material, sodium tripolyphosphate as cross-linking agent. The composite was carefully characterized by SEM, EDS, FT-IR and XPS. The influence of crosslinking conditions, dosage, pH, initial concentration, contacting time and temperature on adsorption were tested through batch adsorption experiments. CTS-STPP-MS adsorption process was exothermic, spontaneous and agreed with Sips isotherm model accompanying the maximum adsorption capacity as 948 mg∙g-1 (pH = 3). Notably, the adsorption performance was outstanding for high concentration solutions, with a removal rate of 97 % in up to 2000 mg∙L-1 OII solution (100 mg sorbent dosage, 50 mL OII solution, pH = 3, 289.15 K). In addition, the adsorption efficiency yet remained 97.85 % after 5 repeated adsorption-desorption cycles. The driving force of adsorption was attributed to electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bonds which was proved by adsorption results coupled with XPS. Owing to the excellent properties of high-effective, environmental-friendly, easy to separate and regenerable, CTS-STPP-MS composite turned out to be a promising adsorbent in contamination treatment.

RESUMO

The increasing discharge of oily wastewater from life poses a serious threat to the ecological environment and human health. To develop green, efficient, and low-cost materials for oil-water separation, a superhydrophobic photothermal oil-absorbing sponge (CAC-PDA@MF) was prepared by using nanoscale coconut shell activated carbon (CAC) loaded on a melamine sponge in this study. The sponge had excellent superhydrophobicity (WCA of 159.53°) due to the reduction of surface energy by grafting long-chain silanes. The adsorption capacity of the sponge was 69.04 g/g-158.27 g/g for a wide range of oils and organic solvents, and the sponge had excellent mechanical properties for multiple adsorption and recovery of oil. After 50 cycles of oil-water separation, its separation efficiency was maintained at over 98 %. In addition, the material had high acid, alkali, and salt resistance as well as excellent photothermal conversion properties. Its surface temperature rose rapidly to 100 °C and above, at a light intensity of 1.0 kW/m2. The material was capable of adsorbing and recovering high-viscosity oils that were solid or semi-solid at room temperature. Its versatility and commercial value made it a promising candidate for a wide range of applications.

RESUMO

In this study, we employed a melamine sponge (MS) as the skeleton material and utilized carbonized ZIF-8 (CZIF-8) and chitosan (CS) as the raw materials to prepare CZIF-8/CS-MS, a novel material featuring a three-dimensional interconnected porous network. The resulting CZIF-8/CS-MS material possesses a unique porous structure, significant specific surface area and abundant active sites. These characteristics make CZIF-8/CS-MS a promising absorbent for selective purification of plant growth regulators (PGRs) including 1-naphthlcetic acid (NAA), naphthoxyacetic acid (NOA), 4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (4-CPA), 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). After optimizing the extraction conditions, excellent linearity (r > 0.9994) was observed within a wide linear range of 1-100 ng/mL using ultra high performance liquid chromatography-tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry. The detection limits (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) were found to be in the range of 0.013-0.154 ng/mL and 0.044-0.515 ng/mL, respectively. Additionally, the relative recovery of Schisandra chinensis fruit samples was determined to be 89.7-99.4 %, with a relative standard deviation (RSDs) of ≤ 8.4 % (n = 3). Compared to other methods, this approach offers a multitude of benefits, which include but are not limited to exceptional sensitivity, reduced sample volume requirements, low LODs, a comparable linear range, and high reproducibility. The findings of this study pave the way for exploring novel functionalized sponge columns, which leverage the integration of nano-sorbent materials and coating agents, for the purpose of analyzing PGRs within intricate matrix samples.

RESUMO

A novel azo-linked porous organic polymer (AL-POP) was synthesized from caffeic acid and benzidine via an azo-coupling reaction and characterized by FTIR, SEM-EDS, BET, TGA, XRD and zeta potential analysis. AL-POPs were incorporated into melamine sponges and used for pipette tip micro solid-phase extraction (PT-MSPE) of six types of B vitamins (including thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinamide, pyridoxine, folic acid, and cyanocobalamin). After extraction, the samples were analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection (HPLC-DAD) system. The effect of AL-POP composition on the extraction efficiency (EE) of vitamins was investigated and benzidine to caffeic acid mol ratio of 1.5, 3.35 mmol of NaNO2, and reaction time of 8 h were selected as optimum conditions. The efficiency of the extraction process was improved by optimizing various parameters such as the amount of sorbent, pH and ionic strength of the sample, sample volume, number of sorption and desorption cycles, type of wash solvent, and type and volume of eluent solvent. Linearity (R2≥0.9987), Limit of detection (LOD) (11.88-18.97 ng/mL), limit of quantification (LOQ) (39.62-63.23 ng/mL), and enrichment factor (EF) (1.27-4.31) were obtained using calibration curves plotted under optimum conditions. Recovery values of these six B vitamins in the spiked multivitamin syrup samples varied from 80.01% to 108.35%, with a relative standard deviation (RSD) below 5.44%. Eventually, the optimized method was successfully used to extract and quantify the B vitamins in multivitamin syrup and non-alcoholic beer.

RESUMO

A 15-channel pressure filtration purification method was presented for high throughput sample preparation of aquatic products. A cost-effective device was constructed and melamine sponge was selected as the cleanup sorbent. Upon interfacing with HPLC-MS/MS, the analytical procedure demonstrated its suitability for quantifying 160 pesticides and veterinary drug residues in aquatic products such as fish, shrimp, and crab. The method achieved sample recoveries ranging from 61.3 to 124.9 %. The detection limits were established between 0.5 and 1.0 µg/kg, while the quantitation limits were confirmed to be within the range of 1.0-2.0 µg/kg. The method was applied to quantify the pesticide and veterinary drug residues in mostly consumed aquatic products from five coastal provinces in China.
