RESUMO

The synthesis of four pentacoordinated organotin(IV) complexes prepared in a one-pot reaction from 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde, 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine and organotin oxides is reported. The complexes were characterized by UV-Vis, IR, MS, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR techniques. The compound based on 2,2-diphenyl-6-aza-1,3-dioxa-2-stannanaphtho[1,2-h]pyrido[3,2-d]cyclononene revealed the formation of a monomeric complex with a distorted five-coordinated molecular geometry intermediate between the trigonal bipyramidal and square pyramidal. In order to find possible applications in photovoltaic devices, hybrid films of organotin(IV) complexes embedded in poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) with graphene were deposited. The topographic and mechanical properties were examined. The film with the complex integrated into the cyclohexyl substituent has high plastic deformation, with a maximum stress of 1.69 × 107 Pa and a Knoop hardness of 0.061. The lowest values of 1.85 eV for the onset gap and 3.53 eV for the energy gap were obtained for the heterostructure having the complex with the phenyl substituent. Bulk heterojunction devices were fabricated; these devices showed ohmic behavior at low voltages and a space-charge-limited current (SCLC) conduction mechanism at higher voltages. A value of 0.02 A was found for the maximum carried current. The SCLC mechanism suggests hole mobility values of between 2.62 × 10-2 and 3.63 cm2/V.s and concentrations of thermally excited holes between 2.96 × 1018 and 4.38 × 1018 m-3.

Novel, porous, highly aromatic organotin(IV) frameworks were successfully synthesized by the condensation of telmisartan and an appropriate tin(IV) chloride. The structures of the synthesized organotin(IV) complexes were elucidated by elemental analysis, 1H-, 13C-, and 119Sn-NMR, and FTIR spectroscopy. The surface morphologies of the complexes were inspected by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The synthesized mesoporous organotin(IV) complexes have a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 32.3-130.4 m2·g-1, pore volume of 0.046-0.162 cm3·g-1, and pore size of around 2.4 nm. The tin complexes containing a butyl substituent were more efficient as carbon dioxide storage media than the complexes containing a phenyl substituent. The dibutyltin(IV) complex had the highest BET surface area (SBET = 130.357 m2·g-1), the largest volume (0.162 cm3·g-1), and was the most efficient for carbon dioxide storage (7.1 wt%) at a controlled temperature (323 K) and pressure (50 bars).

Three organotin(IV) complexes containing ciprofloxacin as a ligand (Ph3SnL, Me2SnL2 and Bu2SnL2; 0.5% by weight) were used as additives to inhibit the photodegradation of polyvinyl chloride films (40 µm thickness) upon irradiation with ultraviolet light (λmax = 313 at a light intensity = 7.75 × 10-7 ein dm-3 S-1) at room temperature. The efficiency of organotin(IV) complexes as photostabilizers was determined by monitoring the changes in the weight, growth of specific functional groups (hydroxyl, carbonyl and carbene), viscosity, average molecular weight, chain scission and degree of deterioration of the polymeric films upon irradiation. The results obtained indicated that organotin(IV) complexes stabilized poly(vinyl chloride) and the dimethyltin(IV) complex was the most efficient additive. The surface morphologies of poly(vinyl chloride) films containing organotin(IV) complexes were examined using an atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscopy. These showed that the surface of polymeric films containing organotin(IV) complexes were smoother and less rough, compared to the surface of the blank films. Some mechanisms that explained the role of organotin(IV) complexes in poly(vinyl chloride) photostabilization process were proposed.

A novel trimethyltin(IV) complex (Me3SnL), derived from 3-(4-methyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)propanoate ligand, has been synthesized and characterized by elemental microanalysis, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, FT-IR and multinuclear (1H, 13C and 119Sn) NMR spectroscopies. Furthermore, the structure of the ligand precursor HL was solved using SC-XRD (single-crystal X-ray diffraction). The prediction of UV/Vis and NMR spectra by quantum-chemical methods was performed and compared to experimental findings. The protein binding affinity of Me3SnL towards BSA was determined by spectrofluorometric titration and subsequent molecular docking simulations. Me3SnL has been evaluated for its in vitro anticancer activity against three human cell lines, MCF-7 (breast adenocarcinoma), A375 (melanoma) and HCT116 (colorectal carcinoma), and three mouse tumor cell lines, 4T1 (breast carcinoma), B16 (melanoma) and CT26 (colon carcinoma), using MTT and CV assays. The strong inhibition of A375 cell proliferation, ROS/RNS upregulation and robust lipid peroxidation lead to autophagic cell death upon treatment with Me3SnL.

The synthesis of four mononuclear heptacoordinated organotin (IV) complexes of mixed ligands derived from tridentated Schiff bases and pyrazinecarboxylic acid is reported. This organotin (IV) complexes were prepared by using a multicomponent reaction, the reaction proceeds in moderate to good yields (64% to 82%). The complexes were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, 1H, 13C, and 119Sn nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and elemental analysis. The spectroscopic analysis revealed that the tin atom is seven-coordinate in solution and that the carboxyl group acts as monodentate ligand. To determine the effect of the substituent on the optoelectronic properties of the organotin (IV) complexes, thin films were deposited, and the optical bandgap was obtained. A bandgap between 1.88 and 1.98 eV for the pellets and between 1.23 and 1.40 eV for the thin films was obtained. Later, different types of optoelectronic devices with architecture "contacts up/base down" were manufactured and analyzed to compare their electrical behavior. The design was intended to generate a composite based on the synthetized heptacoordinated organotin (IV) complexes embedded on the poly(3,4-ethylenedyoxithiophene)-poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS). A Schottky curve at low voltages (<1.5 mV) and a current density variation of as much as ~3 × 10-5 A/cm2 at ~1.1 mV was observed. A generated photocurrent was of approximately 10-7 A and a photoconductivity between 4 × 10-9 and 7 × 10-9 S/cm for all the manufactured structures. The structural modifications on organotin (IV) complexes were focused on the electronic nature of the substituents and their ability to contribute to the electronic delocalization via the π system. The presence of the methyl group, a modest electron donor, or the non-substitution on the aromatic ring, has a reduced effect on the electronic properties of the molecule. However, a strong effect in the electronic properties of the material can be inferred from the presence of electron-withdrawing substituents like chlorine, able to reduce the gap energies.

There is a growing interest in the cancer cell growth inhibitory effects of organotin (IV) compounds and, accordingly, a new series of dimethyl-, di-(n-butyl)-, diphenyl- and chloro-phenyl tin(IV) complexes with a Schiff base core were prepared. Their binding to DNA was assessed by UV thermal denaturation showing no interaction and by UV-vis titration exhibiting moderate interaction by intercalation. Complexes having n-butyl substituents were more potent and cytotoxic against human leukemia, breast and cervical cancer cell lines than other organotin(IV) complexes tested. Unfortunately, some of these compounds showed similar cytotoxicity in a non-cancerous cell line. We may conclude that cytotoxic activity was dependent on the nature (lipophilicity and size, according to the structure-activity relationship studies) and substitution pattern on the different structures. These results may aid in the rational design of metallodrugs, expanding the scope of organotin complexes in formulating new metal based drugs with dibutyl moieties.

Four novel organotin(IV) complexes containing phosphoric triamide ligands were synthesized and characterized by multinuclear ((1)H, (31)P, (13)C) NMR, infrared, ultraviolet and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. The (1)H NMR spectra of complexes 1-4 proved that the Sn atoms adopt octahedral configurations. The nanoparticles of the complexes were also prepared by ultrasonication, and their SEM micrographs indicated identical spherical morphologies with particles sizes about 20-25 nm. The fluorescence spectra exhibited blue shifts for the maximum wavelength of emission upon complexation.
