RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Striae Distensae (SD) is a common dermatological lesion. The mechanism of formation is unclear, the prevailing theory is mechanical pulling of the skin and hormonal changes. Traditional SD treatment methods include topical drugs, photoelectric therapy, stripping and others, but each has limitations. Stromal vascular fraction gel (SVF-gel) is a filler physically prepared from granular fat, enriched with adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and extracellular matrix (ECM). A good effect in the treatment of neck lines, wounds, acne, and other aspects. SD formation and treatment goals are comparable to those of neck lines. In this study, SVF-gel filling will be used to treat mature SD, and its effectiveness and safety will be discussed in detail. METHODS: From December 2019 to June 2022, recruit patients who want to treat SD caused by obesity or pregnancy among those who have "autologous fat aspiration" to change their body shape. Preoperatively, the area to be treated for SD was marked, autologous fat aspiration was performed, and the aspirated fat was prepared as SVF-gel and filled into the preoperatively marked SD. All patients had preoperative and postoperative follow-up with planar photographs and VISIA skin analyzer photographs to assess surgical results and safety from subjective and objective perspectives. RESULTS: A total of 36 patients were enrolled, with 31 of them successfully followed up on. The mean Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) score six months after surgery was 1.87 ± 0.03. At six months postoperatively, the overall patient satisfaction rate was 90%. The depth, area, and color of SD improved six months after surgery, and no serious complications occurred in any of the patients. CONCLUSIONS: SVF-gel is a safe and effective method of improving mature SD and can be used as a clinical treatment option.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Striae distensae (SD), linear scars of derma, caused by disproportionate skin stretching, which indicates a cosmetic problem and even endangers individuals' psychosocial health. Microneedling, representing a relatively new procedural therapy, has shown brightening but diverse results in the remedy of SD. Our study systematically investigates and further evaluates the efficacy of microneedling for SD. METHOD: This study was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. According to the preplanned search strategy, four electronic databases were comprehensively searched for eligible clinical controlled studies. Standardized mean difference (SMD) and odd ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals were calculated for continuous data and dichotomous data, respectively. RESULTS: According to the predetermined criteria, eleven eligible articles of six RCTs and five non-RCTs were included. Concerning clinical improvement, a significant difference was observed in the microneedle radiofrequency treatment subgroup (SMD: 0.57, 95% CI 0.20-0.94, P = 0.003). The pooled result of the second subgroup revealed that microneedling and lasers producing almost comparable effectiveness for treating SD with no significant difference (P = 0.35). The analysis result of the third subgroup of microneedling versus non-laser therapy indicated significant difference at the 5% significance level (SMD:1.01, 95% CI 0.51-1.51, P < 0.0001). With regard to patient satisfaction, the pooled estimate concluded that participants' satisfaction with therapeutic effect between MRF and laser group was comparable (P = 0.26), whereas microneedling exhibited significant superiority than both laser (P = 0.04) and non-laser treatments (SMD: 0.95, 95% CI 0.52-1.38, P < 0.0001). Occurrence of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) was not obvious in microneedling therapy compared to other treatments, and a statistically difference was observed (P = 0.0003). Microneedling treatment caused significant pain compared with laser therapy (P < 0.00001). CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis has provided initial evidence of the efficacy and safety of microneedling technology for SD. RESUMO

Striae distensae (SD) are disfiguring skin condition causing cosmetic troubles and psychological distress. The aim was to compare the efficacy and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) versus its combination with subcision or medium-depth peeling (glycolic acid 70% followed by trichloroacetic acid [TCA] 35%) for SD treatment. Seventy-five female patients with SD were divided into three equal groups with the contralateral side in each patients represented the control group. Group A treated with PRP, group B received PRP + subcision while group C received PRP + combined peeling (GA 70% + TCA 35%). Primary outcome included clinical improvement, patients' satisfaction, and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Striae measurement, skin biopsies were also assessed. Very much improvement was achieved in 28%, 44%, and 36% in groups A, B, and C respectively. The combined groups (B and C) showed significantly higher patients' satisfaction and DLQI than group A (p = 0.03), (p < 0.0001). A significant decrease in all striae measurements was achieved with all groups (p < 0.001); however, groups B and C showed more decrease (p = 0.2 and 0.4). A highly significant decrease in the mean number of sessions was found in group B (p < 0.0001). All groups demonstrated improvement in dermal collagen deposition, which was higher in the combined groups. Side effects were mild and well tolerated. The combination of PRP with subcision or peeling was more effective and offered a higher therapeutic response than PRP alone. Moreover, the subcision has superior efficacy in striae albae and safer in darker skin types.

RESUMO

Striae distensae (SD) are common skin conditions that have posed a significant challenge regarding their assessment and treatment. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of microneedling in comparison to fractional CO2 laser therapy. Similar striae were selected and photographed. Each side was randomly assigned to be treated with CO2 fractional laser or microneedling four times at monthly intervals and followed up for 10 months. Outcome measures including the length and width of the largest striae, dermatologist assessed improvement, patients' satisfaction, and visual analog scale (VAS) were assessed. Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to assess the efficacy of treatments. Forty patients with a mean age of 28.1 years were included. The median cross-section of the largest striae decreased significantly in both groups (P-value <0.001), without statistically significant differences between the two groups before and 6 months after treatment. VAS also improved significantly in both groups, and there were no statistically significant differences between the two treatments in all visits. No clinically significant adverse effects were observed. Fractional CO2 laser and microneedling are both efficient treatments to resolve SD. A new light should be shed on the microneedling modality as it is more economical than the other treatment options.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Striae distensae are atrophic dermal scars that can cause psychosocial distress among affected patients. Despite numerous available therapeutic modalities, no gold standard treatment has been established. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of a fractional 1064-nm picosecond laser for the treatment of striae alba in individuals with dark skin types. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty volunteers with Fitzpatrick skin types IV-V who presented with striae alba were enrolled. Subjects were treated with a fractional 1064-nm picosecond laser for four sessions at 4-week intervals. The skin texture, average melanin index (MI), and melanin variation score were assessed using Antera 3D® before treatment, at 1 month after the second treatment, and at 1, 3, and 6 months after the last treatment. Two independent investigators evaluated clinical improvement by comparing pretreatment and posttreatment photographs. The patient satisfaction rates were likewise assessed. Adverse effects were recorded during the entire study period. RESULTS: Significant improvement of skin texture was seen at 1 month after the final treatment (p < 0.001) and continuously improved until the 6-month follow-up visit (p = 0.003). The average MI significantly increased at 1 month after the final treatment (p < 0.001), whereas the melanin variation score decreased throughout the follow-up period. Investigator assessment at the 6-month follow-up revealed that 90% of subjects had moderate to marked improvement of striae appearance. Only two of 20 subjects (10%) developed transient postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after laser treatment. CONCLUSION: Fractional picosecond 1064-nm laser is effective and well-tolerated for the treatment of striae alba in dark-skinned individuals with a low incidence of PIH.

RESUMO

Authors present a study about the contraction forces observed in striae distensae fibroblasts (SMF) in a collagen scaffold. Collagen lattices were used to study the mechanical behavior of SDF within the collagen matrix compared to the lattices produced using the healthy skin derived fibroblasts (NSF). A Forcebox device was used to measure the contractile forces. Striae Rubrae fibroblast's contractile force was by 28% greater than that generated by the NSF and striae albae fibroblasts (P<0.05). Anomalies and especially differences in forces generated by SMF were observed through all our experiments. These findings complete and corroborate the results and information published in our previous studies. RESUMO

Striae distensae (SD) or stretch marks are common linear scars of atrophic skin with disintegrating extracellular matrix (ECM) structures. Although fibroblasts contribute to the construction of ECM structure in SD, some studies have reported that mast cell degranulation causes the disruption of ECM in early SD lesions. Lagerstroemia indica flower (LIF) has traditionally been used in India as a diuretic. However, little is known about the effect and molecular action of Lagerstroemia indica flower extract (LIFE) on alleviating SD. This study evaluated the effects of LIFE on mast cell degranulation and the synthesis of ECM components in fibroblasts. LIFE inhibits the adhesion of rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) cells, RBL-2H3 on fibronectin (FN) and the expression of integrin, a receptor for FN, thereby reducing focal adhesion kinase (FAK) phosphorylation. In addition, LIFE attenuated the allergen-induced granules and cytokine interleukin 3 (IL-3) through the adhesion with FN. Moreover, the conditioned medium (CM) of activated mast cells decreases the synthesis of ECM components, and LIFE restores the abnormal expressions induced by activated mast cells. These results demonstrate that LIFE suppresses FN-induced mast cell activation and promotes the synthesis of ECM components in fibroblast, which indicates that LIFE may be a useful cosmetic agent for SD treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Striae distensae (SD) is a challenging skin condition. Striae alba (SA) represents the chronic late atrophic stage of SD. Fractional laser technology is among the modalities used for treating SD. Lately, fractional microneedling radiofrequency (FMR) is gaining increased popularity in treating SD. The aim of our study was to assess and compare the efficacy of FMR and fractional Er:YAG laser in the treatment of SA. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty female patients were enrolled in the study fulfilling all inclusion and exclusion criteria. On a randomly selected half side of the body, the patients were treated with 2940 nm fractional Er:YAG laser while the other half side was treated with the FMR. RESULTS: Both modalities showed a significant reduction in the width of the widest striae (P < 0.005); however, there was no significant difference between them. Using optical coherence tomography, all patients demonstrated a mean significant increase in epidermal thickness; however, the FMR-treated sites showed significantly better results when compared with the ER:YAG-treated sides (P = 0.029). Scar improvements in both modalities did not correlate to skin type, duration, or site of the striae. CONCLUSION: Er:YAG and FMR represent two safe, effective, tolerable modalities for treating SA and are associated with minimal side effects. Lasers Surg. Med. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Striae distensae (SD) appear clinically as parallel striae, lying perpendicular to the tension lines of the skin. SD evolve into two clinical phases, an initial inflammatory phase in which they are called "striae rubrae" (SR) and a chronic phase in which they are called striae albae (SA). Fibroblasts seem to play a key role in the pathogenesis of stretch marks. This study was aimed at describing and analyzing stretch marks-derived fibroblasts (SMF), the differences between SR- and SA-derived fibroblasts (SRF, SAF), testing two treatments in vitro (sodium ascorbate and PrP) on SAF. MATERIAL AND METHODS: To characterize the SMF, the expression of alpha smooth muscle actin (alpha SMA) was investigated. Type I collagen expression was measured in SAF, before and after adding different PrP concentrations and sodium ascorbate in the culture medium. Results were processed through statistical analysis models using the Student's t-test. RESULTS: A significant increase in alpha SMA (P <0.001) was observed in SRF. SAF treated with PrP and sodium ascorbate showed a resumption of their metabolic activity by an increase in collagen type I production and cell proliferation. After 24 h of incubation with PrP 1% and PrP 5% + sodium ascorbate, cell viability was increased by 140% and 151% and by 156 and 178% after 48 h, respectively, compared to the control. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that a biologically mediated improvement in SMF metabolic activity is possible. Our promising results require further trials to be able to confirm the reproducibility of this combined treatment, particularly in vivo. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Striae gravidarum are a common occurrence in pregnancy and many women use a topical product to prevent their development or lessen their appearance if they do develop. There is a lack of evidence on the effectiveness of many of the products used by women. This study arose from challenges in recruitment to a pilot randomised trial (ISRCTN trial registration number:76992326) designed to evaluate the feasibility of a definitive trial to compare a moisturising oil to no treatment in the prevention and reduction in severity of striae gravidarum. The study reported here explored the factors influencing recruitment to that pilot trial. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study was undertaken involving primigravid women attending an Irish maternity hospital. Data were collected by semi-structured telephone interviews over a four-week period and analysed using the framework method of analysis. Fifteen interview transcripts were included in the analysis. RESULTS: Four main themes consisting of twelve categories were identified from the interview data. The themes focused on women's prevention of stretch marks and their choice of anti-stretch mark product, who and what influenced that choice and influences on trial participation. In relation to influences on trial participation, the possibility of being randomised to the non- intervention or control group was a deterrent for many women. CONCLUSIONS: The prevention of stretch marks is important to pregnant women, as is their choice of product to prevent them. Offering women the opportunity to be part of a trial that would be of low burden and would test a well-known product may optimise recruitment. However, reluctance to be randomised because of the possibility of being allocated to the non-intervention control group suggests that further work is needed in this field on how best to communicate uncertainty to potential participants.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Striae distensae (SD) are cutaneous lesions that often occur on the breasts, abdomen, hips, and thighs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a new technique using a non-invasive Er:YAG laser combined with Spatially Modulated Ablation (SMA) module for the treatment of SD. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective pilot clinical study included 20 patients with skin phototypes I to IV who are affected by SD. The Er:YAG 2940 nm laser with SMA module was used in scanning mode with fluences of 2.3 J/cm2 , frequency of 3 Hz, and pulse duration of 0.3 milliseconds. The laser beam is split into several microspots and penetrates only by 50 µm in the epidermis thickness. This technology induces also the generation of acoustic waves to stimulate tissue regeneration. Each patient underwent six laser sessions. An objective and subjective assessment of SD were used. All adverse events were reported. RESULTS: Most patients reported good improvement and expressed their satisfaction with the treatment. Cutometric analysis showed significant improvement in skin elasticity at the end of study. Moreover, ultrasound analysis revealed an increase in dermal thickness (P < 0.01). POSAS scores decreased significantly at 3 and 6 months, reflecting improved skin quality. The average recovery time was 5 days, with no adverse effects reported. CONCLUSION: Using Er:YAG laser (2,940 nm) with SMA technology to treat SD resulted in improved volume and textural appearance without side effects. The elasticity and thickness of the dermis also improved. The Er:YAG laser with SMA module may be considered as a novel and effective technique to treat SD lesions with minimal time recovery. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Stretch marks are disfiguring skin lesions that often cause problems of self-esteem, but little effort has been put to studying this pathology. We therefore analysed cell cultures of dermal fibroblasts isolated from a striae albae, to thereafter reconstruct a full thickness skin model. METHODS: Human Dermal Fibroblasts (HDF) were isolated from a striae distensae (SD) lesion and from the adjacent non-lesioned skin. The dermis of two full thickness skin models was reconstructed with either striae- or normal-HDF, while the epidermis was in both reconstructed with Normal Human Epidermal Keratinocytes. RESULTS: Main observations and pertinent data: Gene expression analysis of cell cultures revealed a generalized decomposition of the Extra Cellular Matrix (ECM), since collagens type I and III, lysyl oxidase (LOX), biglycan, lumican and fibronectin were downregulated, while MMP3 was increased together with a decrease of its natural inhibitors (TIMP1, TIMP2 and PAI-1). These findings were statistically corroborated for key ECM elements at the protein level (COL1, MMP1 and TGFB1). Interestingly, striae albae fibroblasts retained a pro-inflammatory phenotype, as suggested by increased gene expression of CXCL8, HAS1 and TNFA. We next reconstructed a full thickness skin model (Striae Reconstructed) with dermal fibroblasts from striae albae. Gene expression analysis showed that the Striae Reconstructed elicited not only ECM decomposition, but also skin ageing, as indicated by the upregulation of P16, PTGS2 and SOD2. Discussion points: Although the epidermis was constructed with normal human epidermal keratinocytes, the Striae Reconstructed presented epidermal atrophy and a dramatic increase of ß1-integrin at the epidermal-dermal junction providing, for the first time to our knowledge, a rationale showing that the key cell player behind stretch marks are dermal fibroblasts rather than epidermal keratinocytes. CONCLUSION: New knowledge: Taken together, our findings shed new light into the aetiology of stretch marks and indicate that the Striae Reconstructed, a new model for in vitro testing and drug screening, may open new avenues for the treatment of stretch marks.

BACKGROUND: This study examines the clinical characteristics and demographics of teenage boys with horizontal striae distensae of the lower back in an outpatient setting. METHODS: Retrospective medical chart reviews and telephone survey studies were completed on an outpatient cohort of 12 boys 11 to 17 years of age with a clinical diagnosis of transverse striae distensae of the lower back at a single-center, university-based, pediatric dermatology practice. We evaluated the clinical features of the striae, participant demographic characteristics, and past medical history. A review of the literature concerning risk factors was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar. RESULTS: Of the 14 patients we contacted, 12 agreed to participate. The average age of onset for the striae was 14.3 years. All boys were above the 50th percentile in height at the time of onset. Eight (66.7%) reported a significant growth spurt before the appearance of the stretch marks. Most were asymptomatic. None of the boys had a history of unmonitored exogenous steroid use or prior infection with Bartonella henselae or Borrelia burgdorferi. Only one (8.3%) had a chronic medical condition. Eleven (91.7%) had at least one first-degree relative with striae distensae. CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that horizontal striae distensae of the lower back in adolescent boys is associated with a rapid growth spurt, tall stature, and family history of striae distensae. There is no association between this type of striae distensae and any chronic medical condition, bacterial infection, or exogenous steroid use. Thus a careful review of systems and counseling without further medical testing is reasonable management.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of self-reported skin complaints during pregnancy, applied treatment and the impact on well-being of pregnant women. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We asked 1935 women that were maximum 4 years after labor to fill in our questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions concerning the course of pregnancy, observed skin lesions, applied treatment and influence on the quality of life. RESULTS: Skin changes during pregnancy were reported by 1447 patients (74.78%). The prevalence of self-reported skin complaints were as follows: stretch marks (77.4%), acne (21.6%) and recurrent herpes labialis (11.6%). In 43.67% (n = 632) of women who reported dermatological problems during pregnancy the disease caused significant deterioration in their well-being. Only 168 patients (11.61%) received dermatological treatment from their obstetricians. Dermatological con-sultation required 217 patients (14.99%). For 133 of treated women (25.68%) the recommended treatment was expensive. However, in the majority of patients (379; 73.15%) who received treatment the skin changes resolved after therapy. Skin symptoms resolved significantly faster in the treated group (3.5 ± 4.3 week vs 5.8 ± 6.2 week; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported skin complaints seem to be a relevant problem during pregnancy. Proper skin care as well as appropriate treatment applied by obstetricians and/or dermatologists may help women to recover.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Striae distensae are permanent dermal lesions that can cause significant psychosocial distress. A detailed understanding of the numerous treatment modalities available is essential to ensuring optimal patient outcomes. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to evaluate and summarize the different treatment methods for striae distensae by linking their proposed modes of action with the histopathogenesis of the condition to guide patient treatment. METHODS: A systematic review of the literature was performed with no limits placed on publication date. Relevant studies were assigned a level of evidence by the authors. RESULTS: Ninety-two articles were identified, with 74 being eligible for quality assessment. The majority of treatments aim to increase collagen production. The use of vascular lasers can reduce erythema in striae rubrae by targeting hemoglobin, whereas increasing melanin through methods such as ultraviolet light is a major focus for treatment of striae albae. Despite some topical treatments being widely used, uncertainty regarding their mode of action remains. No treatment has proved to be completely effective. LIMITATIONS: Limitations of the study include low-quality evidence, small sample sizes, and varying treatment protocols and outcome measures, along with concerns regarding publication bias. CONCLUSIONS: Further randomized, controlled trials are needed before definitive conclusions and recommendations can be made.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Striae Distensae (SD) is a very common dermatologic condition. We evaluated the effectiveness and safety of a novel non-ablative fractional 1565 nm laser (ResurFX) on the appearance of SD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve Caucasian subjects with various stages of SD received three non-ablative laser treatments. Each treatment consisted of two different laser settings, in order to achieve a demarcated dense impact together with a diffused deep impact. Three months after the last treatment, SD improvement was assessed by blinded and non-blinded reviewers using clinical images and 3D image analyses. RESULTS: Good clinical improvement (between 51% and 75%) was observed in all patients. Most patients showed improvement of > 50% in the volume of depressions and in lesion color (91.7% and 83.3% of patients, respectively). The average pain during treatment was generally defined as tolerable and the average downtime was 4 days. Transient erythema and severe edema were noted immediately after the procedure, but long-lasting or severe adverse effects were not observed. All patients noted a good improvement and were satisfied with the treatment and the results. CONCLUSIONS: The treatment with the 1565 nm ResurFX laser resulted in improved pigmentation, volume, and textural appearance of SD.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Medical skin needling as a nonablative procedure appears to be a good alternative to conventional surgical treatment options for the treatment of acne scars and striae. OBJECTIVE: The effect of medical skin needling particularly with regard to the treatment of acne scars and striae as an alternative to ablative therapy options is explained. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A summary of recent publications on medical skin needling in terms of skin regeneration in vivo and improving skin quality of patients in vivo in striae is provided. RESULTS: Medical needling shows a positive effect on the healing process of the skin, proven in clinical studies providing positive results in the treatment of striae and acne scars. Thus, PCI is a good alternative to conventional surgical procedures. CONCLUSIONS: The therapeutic strategies are numerous, and even if no single modality results in complete remission of scars, medical skin needling is a safe, easy-to-perform treatment option with very promising results.

RESUMO

Background: Lyme borreliosis is a multisystemic infection caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi. Erythema migras is the main clinical marker of the disease. Objective: This study aimed was to investigate the frequency and clinical manifestations of European borreliosis on the skin, and to determine the significance of these findings for diagnosis and therapy. Methods: A retrospective-prospective clinical study of outpatients treated and monitored in a private clinic of an infectologist was conducted over nine years from to 2013-2021. The study was clinical, descriptive and analytical in nature. Results: In the investigated period, 509 (30.8%) patients with borreliosis symptoms were treated. EM in our patients occurred under the following conditions: a) ringed redness, b) redness of target cels and d) continuous round or oval redness of different sizes of individual redness, or multiple occurrences with primary dissemination. Skin changes with multiorgan chronic symptoms of borreliosis occurred in 67.7% of cases the including: walking redness of different shapes and sizes, pink borreliosis stretch marks, white borreliosis stretch marks, borreliosis palms and soles, psoriatic changes, Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, Scleroderma circumscripta-morphae, Erythema nodosum, Granuloma anulare and Lichen striatus et atrophicans. Of the 509 patients treated for borreliosis, 32.3% with multi-organ symptomatology had no skin changes. Conclusion: The skin manifestations of European borreliosis are multi-layered and Erythema migrans are basic, but not the only markers of the disease. 'Pink borreliose stretch marks, "white borreliosis striae", "borreliosis palms or soles", and intermittent redness accompanied by itching are unique markers for the diagnosis of chronic borreliosis, if they are manifested.

RESUMO

Scars and stretch marks are extremely common. For scars, evidence of alterations of the dermal and hypodermic layers is known, while for stretch marks, less data are available, and they are considered purely aesthetic conditions. The intra- and inter-subject variability of the skin makes the comparison between these two particularly complex. This study presents the case of a 54-year-old man who had both stretch marks and a surgical scar on his abdomen. We performed ultrasound and elastosonographic investigations for both to analyse the structural alteration of the skin and subcutaneous layers. Their structures were also compared to the structure of intact skin. The two skin conditions appeared substantially morphologically different and different from intact skin. The alterations detected, particularly of the connective structures, allow us to state that both scars and stretch marks are alterations of both the dermis and the hypodermis and stretch marks differ from scars.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Striae distensae (SD), or stretch marks, are a common skin problem having a psychological impact and cosmetic concern, especially for women, in whom the prevalence is higher than in men. This study assessed the efficacy and safety of a single autologous micrografting treatment (AMT®) using Rigenera® technology for the management of SD. METHODS: This single-centre study included 10 healthy women between 24 and 65 years of age, with Fitzpatrick-Goldman skin types I-IV, who had visible SD in glutes/thighs. Each subject acted as their own control. The treatment procedure (microneedling + AMT) and the control procedure (no treatment) were performed on contralateral sides of the glutes/thighs, targeting matched and paired SD. Microneedling was carried out using Dermapen®, equipped with 32 needle heads set at 1.5 mm needle length. The AMT procedure involved extracting biopsies from the mastoid hair zone with a 2.5-mm dermal punch, followed by disaggregation of the biopsies in a physiological saline solution using the Rigeneracons. The disaggregated micrografts were then intradermally injected using 30G 4-mm needles, maintaining a distance of 1 cm between injection points, covering the entire marked treatment region. RESULTS: In the treated area, at 3 months post-procedure compared to pre-procedure, the following changes were observed, all with statistical significance (P ≤ 0.05): (a) significant reductions in skin roughness (Ra, - 15.9%; Rz, - 22.6%), skin luminance (- 2.0%), and blue-green color distribution (- 10.6%); (b) significant increases in skin microcirculation maximum value (+ 240.1%), skin hydration (+ 71.2%), skin elasticity (+ 216.5%), skin density (+ 34.3%), skin thickness (+ 26.0%), and hypodermis thickness (+ 29.9%). Furthermore, for each of the aforementioned parameters, there was a significantly greater improvement observed with the AMT procedure compared with microneedling at 3 months (all P ≤ 0.05). CONCLUSION: The AMT procedure using Rigenera technology resulted in an noticeable improvement in the SD appearance after 3 months in healthy women.

This was a study of the Autologous Micrografting Technology (AMT) procedure for management of SD. Striae distensae (SD) commonly known as stretch marks are visible linear scars on the skin arising from excessive stretching of the skin. They are a very common condition, especially in women, causing cosmetic concern and psychological discomfort. Ten healthy women with SD were included in the study and each subject acted as their own control. Matched and paired SD on contralateral sides of the glutes/thighs were identified for treatment and control. In the area identified for treatment, the skin was initially damaged by microneedling to enhance regeneration, followed by intradermal injection of disaggregated autologous micrografts. The micrografts for the AMT procedure were extracted from the mastoid hair zone and disaggregated in physiological saline solution using the Rigeneracons. In the control area, no treatment was performed. The efficacy of the AMT procedure was assessed at 1 and 3 months post-procedure using several validated methodologies. Three months after the AMT procedure, a significant increase was observed in skin hydration, elasticity, density, and thickness, as well as in hypodermis thickness and microcirculation maximum value compared with pre-procedure in the treated area. There also was a significant reduction in skin roughness, skin luminance, and blue-green color distribution at 3 months in the treated area. For each of these parameters, the improvement observed at 3 months was significantly higher with the AMT procedure compared with only microneedling. We showed that a single AMT procedure using Rigenera technology is useful in the management of SD.
