The present work focuses on the challenges faced by the health sector, given the accelerated process of populationaging on going in Brazil. Also identifies existing interfaces and others that can be built between supplementary health and the public health system in Brazil, called SUS, and analyzes the impact of ANS regulation on the care model provided by the operators.The dissertation presents an approach to the historical context in which they gave the conformation of the health system in Brazil. Are expounded some of its structural characteristics and the age profile of the population are explained. The bibliographic survey enabled to identify demographic and epidemiological transformations that Brazil is going through and the aging process observed in other countries. This study also addressed national and internacional health policies for the elderly and, more specifically, the inducing policies of ANS for the sector of private health insurance. The work also examined the public-private relations and the articulation promoted between the SUS and supplementary health. The conclusion presents a set of proposals to increase the elderlyquality of life, through the restructuring of health services, investment in public policies and improvement of the regulatory practice of ANS (AU)
