ABSTRACT

The author presents a revision of the etiology, anatomy, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of the hallux valgus deformity. The criterion for the decision making process was established based on a careful evaluation and radiological assessment to determine the correct procedure for each patient. The most popular and useful surgical procedures are presented and discussed, including technical tips and postoperative details. The author stresses that the use of only one method of treatment is not sufficient to correct all bunion deformities. Different deformities have different pathological components and magnitudes needing different operative techniques if good results are to be achieved
