ABSTRACT
HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS:
A 77-year old women presented with dysphagia and loss of weight for two months INVESTIGATIONS, TREATMENT AND DIAGNOSIS Endoscopy revealed a polypoid tumor was found in the upper third of the esophagus. It was resected endoscopically after a deeper infiltration of the esophageal wall and enlarged lymphadenopathy or distant metastasis had been ruled out. Histology showed a highly differentiated neuroendocrine tumor of the esophagus with beginning infiltration of the submucosa. It was completely resected. COURSE The follow-up of 48 months showed no local recurrence or distant metastasis. This case report is the second description of a successful endoscopic treatment of a neuroendocrine tumor of the esophagus.CONCLUSION:
EMR is a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in case of mucosal lesions of the gastrointestinal tract. Highly differentiated localized NET of the esophagus are very rare.
