RESUMO

Research and practice in patient safety education have garnered widespread attention; however, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis is lacking. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research focus and research trends in the globalization of the field of patient safety education and to describe the general characteristics of publications. Data on articles and reviews about student safety education were extracted from Web of Science. Microsoft Excel 2019, CiteSpace 6.1.R3, VOSviewer 1.6.18, SATI 3.2, Scimago Graphica, and Pajek were used for quantitative analysis. Collaboration networks of countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords were visualized based on publications from January 2000 to September 2022. A total of 573 papers were published between 2000 to 2022, showing an overall increasing trend. The USA, England, and Australia are the top three most prolific countries; Johns Hopkins University, the University of Technology Sydney, and the University of Toronto are the top three most productive institutions; Nurse Education Today, Journal of Nursing Education, and BMC Medical Education are the most productive journals; Based on content analysis five research hotspots focused on: (1) Quality Improvement of Patient safety Teaching and Learning; (2) Patient safety Teaching Content; (3)Specialized Teaching in Patient Safety; (4) Integrating Patient Safety and Clinical Teaching; (5)Patient Safety Teaching Assessment Content. Through keyword clustering analysis, five research hotspots and relevant contents were identified. According to this study, simulation, communication, collaboration, and medication may attract more attention from researchers and educators, and could be the major trend for future study.

PURPOSE: Developing nursing leadership has become a key policy priority to achieve universal health coverage. This study aims to explore the current status, developing trends and research frontiers in the field of nursing leadership. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: In total, 1,137 articles and reviews on nursing leadership from 1985 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Trends of publications, journals, countries/regions, institutions, documents and keywords were visualized and analyzed using Microsoft Excel and CiteSpace software. FINDINGS: Nursing leadership research showed an overall increase in number despite slight fluctuations in annual publications. The USA was the leading country in nursing leadership research, and the University of Alberta was the most productive institution. The Journal of Nursing Management was the most widely published journal that focused on nursing leadership, followed by the Journal of Nursing Administration. Keyword analysis showed that the main research hotspots of nursing leadership are improvement, practice and impact of nursing leadership. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: This article summarizes the current state and frontiers of nursing leadership for researchers, managers and policy makers, as well as follow-up, development and implementation of nursing leadership. More research is needed that focuses on the improvement, practice and impact of nursing leadership, which are cyclical, complementary and mutually reinforcing. Longitudinal and intervention studies of nursing leadership, especially on patient prognosis, are also particularly needed.

BACKGROUND: The guideline was promoted by the Italian General Practitioners-Primary Care and Geriatrics Hospital-Community Societies and was carried out involving the National Institute of Health and an Expert Panel including representatives from 25 Scientific and Health-Professional Organizations. The aim of the Guideline was to develop evidence-based recommendations on the efficacy of CGA in older people across different clinical settings and the accuracy and utility of CGA-based tools to assess prognosis. METHODS: According to the methodological handbook of the Italian National System of Guidelines and NICE criteria (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in England), the Guideline was produced based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Over 20,000 records gathered through databases searches were initially selected. Sixteen recommendations on CGA efficacy were defined based on 117 studies that met the inclusion criteria and were performed in general practices and primary care (26 studies included), medical and surgical clinics (16 studies), emergency departments (17 studies), hospital medical and surgical wards (53 studies), long-term care facilities and nursing homes (5 studies), hospices and palliative care networks (no studies). Nine recommendations on CGA-based prognostic tools were issues based on 42 included studies carried out in general practices and primary care (5 studies), medical and surgical clinics (4 studies), and hospital wards (33 studies). RESULTS: Using CGA can be useful to reduce hospitalization, mortality, institutionalization, the risk of delirium, and improve appropriateness in drug prescription and maintain functional activities in different settings. Further research on the efficacy of CGA in rehabilitative facilities, nursing homes, and hospice and palliative-care settings is recommended. CGA-based tools, particularly the Multidimensional Prognostic Index, should be used to predict some negative outcomes in different settings. CONCLUSIONS: This Guideline may be useful in clinical practice and as a tool to support research on the use of CGA in older people.

ABSTRACT: People with opioid use disorder (OUD) are a vulnerable population who face unique risks of harm when participating in research. Despite a long-standing dialogue, written research codes of ethics, and institutional review board oversight for the conduct of ethical research in vulnerable populations, protections for study populations with OUD is rarely mentioned. Nurse practitioners who conduct research using participants with OUD, especially when recruiting their own patients (i.e., dual role), must be aware of the unique ethical considerations necessary to protect their patients and participants from increased risks. This article explores vulnerabilities and influences that can affect participant recruitment and consent, imbalances in the distribution of risk and benefits to participants participating in research, and the concerns of coercions, undue influence, and unjustifiable pressure contributing to vulnerabilities. Strategies to reduce the risks of influences that are of concern in the vulnerable population of research participants with opioid disorder are suggested. The goal of this article was to raise awareness of the unique potential risks of harm when using people with OUD as research participants and to explore strategies to minimize potential risks of various levels of influence in this vulnerable population.

AIM: This study was conducted to perform the bibliometric and content analysis of ChatGPT studies in nursing education. BACKGROUND: ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based chatbot developed by OpenAI. The benefits and limitations of the use of ChatGPT in nursing education are still discussed; however, it is a tool having potential to be used in nursing education. DESIGN: Bibliometric and content analysis. METHODS: The study data were scanned through Scopus and Web of Science. Bibliometric analysis was carried out with VOSViewer and Bibliometrix software. In the bibliometric analysis, science mapping and performance analysis techniques were used. Various bibliometric data, including most cited publications, journals and countries, were analyzed and visualized. The synthetic knowledge synthesis method was used in content analysis. RESULTS: We analyzed 53 publications to which 151 authors contributed. The publications had been published in 29 different journals. The average number of citations of publications is 8.2. It was determined that most of the articles were published in Nurse Education Today and Nurse Educator journals and that the leading countries were the USA and Canada. It was observed that international cooperation on the issue was weak. The most frequently mentioned keywords in the publications were "ChatGPT", "artificial intelligence" and "nursing". The following three themes emerged after the content analysis: (1) Integration of ChatGPT into nursing education; (2) Potential benefits and limitations of ChatGPT; and (3) Stepping down the rabbit hole. CONCLUSIONS: We expect that the results of the study can give nursing faculties and academics ideas about the current status of ChatGPT in nursing education and enable them to make inferences for the future.

Objective.To investigate the relationship between environmental ethics, spiritual health, and environmental behavior among nursing students . Methods. In this cross-sectional study, 200 iranian students from the Chabahar Nursing School were selected using a simple random sampling method. The data collection tool included a questionnaire on demographic information, knowledge, attitudes and behaviors towards the environment, environmental ethics, and spiritual health. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized to evaluate the conceptual framework in this study. Results. The mean score for environmental ethics among nursing students was 65.73±10.61 out of 100. Most of the students (47%) had desirable environmental ethics. The knowledge structure (ß=0.46) predicted attitude. The attitude structure also predicted environmental behavior (ß=0.28) and spiritual health (ß=0.31). Ultimately, the results showed that spiritual health and environmental ethics predict environmental behavior directly and indirectly (p<0.001). Conclusion. Spiritual health and environmental ethics were strong predictors of environmental behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account not only students' spiritual health but also their ethical behaviors to promote environmental protection behaviors in the future.


Objetivo. Investigar la relación entre la ética ambiental, la salud espiritual y el comportamiento ambiental entre los estudiantes de enfermería. Métodos. En este estudio transversal se seleccionaron 200 estudiantes iraníes de la Escuela de Enfermería de Chabahar mediante un método de muestreo aleatorio simple. La herramienta de recogida de datos incluía un cuestionario sobre información demográfica, conocimientos, actitudes y comportamientos hacia el medio ambiente, ética medioambiental y salud espiritual. Se utilizó el modelo de ecuaciones estructurales por mínimos cuadrados parciales (PLS-SEM) para evaluar el marco conceptual de este estudio. Resultados. La puntuación media en ética medioambiental entre los estudiantes de enfermería fue de 65.73±10.61 sobre 100. El 47% de los estudiantes tenían una ética medioambiental deseable. La estructura de conocimientos (0.46) predijo la actitud. La estructura de la actitud también predijo el comportamiento medioambiental (0.28) y la salud espiritual (0.31). En última instancia, los resultados mostraron que la salud espiritual y la ética medioambiental predicen el comportamiento medioambiental directa e indirectamente (p<0.001). Conclusión. La salud espiritual y la ética medioambiental fueron fuertes predictores del comportamiento medioambiental. Por lo tanto, es necesario tener en cuenta no sólo la salud espiritual de los estudiantes, sino también sus comportamientos éticos para promover conductas de protección del medio ambiente en el futuro.

A estrutura de conhecimento (0.46) previu a atitude. A estrutura da atitude também previu o comportamento ambiental (0.28) e a saúde espiritual (0.31). Por fim, os resultados mostraram que a saúde espiritual e a ética ambiental previram o comportamento ambiental direta e indiretamente (p<0.001). Conclusão. A saúde espiritual e a ética ambiental foram fortes preditores do comportamento ambiental. Portanto, é necessário considerar não apenas a saúde espiritual dos alunos, mas também seus comportamentos éticos, a fim de promover comportamentos de proteção ambiental no futuro.

Nurses have valuable knowledge and expertise to share. Yet, for a variety of reasons, many nurses do not write for publication. Members in one Sigma Theta Tau International chapter requested information about publishing so a writing for publication program (WPP) was convened. Ten nurses from diverse clinical and academic backgrounds participated. The goal of the WPP was to support a small group of nurses to advance knowledge and develop practical skills through the development of a manuscript with mentorship from doctorally-prepared nurses with publishing experience. The anticipated effect was that participants would share what they learned with colleagues or mentor others to publish in the future. Beginning with informational sessions to lay the foundation for writing and publishing, the WPP included biweekly, two-hour online sessions over a seven-month period whereby individual and group writing with embedded peer and WPP leader feedback occurred. WPP participants gained proficiency in searching online databases, synthesizing published literature, and working as a member of a writing team. The group successfully published a manuscript based on a topic of interest. This current article describes the structured support and mentorship provided during the WPP with recommendations for overcoming publication barriers commonly described in the literature.

BACKGROUND: Second victim is the name given to the healthcare personnel-most often a nursing professional-involved with the error that led to the adverse event to a patient and who, as a result, have experienced negative psychological effects. Research with second victims has increased over the years, however concerns exist with regards to the ethical risks imposed upon these individuals. AIM: To explore the extent to which research with second victims of adverse events in healthcare settings adhere to ethical requirements. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted following Arksey and O'Malley's methodological framework and using the following databases: PUBMED, Web of Science, and SCOPUS. Original research of any study design focused on second victims and published in English, Spanish, or Portuguese in 2014-2023 were included. A critical narrative approach was used to discuss the findings. ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The review followed ethical guidelines emphasizing accurate authorship attribution and truthful data reporting. RESULTS: Fifteen studies using qualitative (n = 2), quantitative (n = 10), and mixed-method (n = 3) designs were included. Over half were not assessed by a research ethics committee, with questionable reasons given by the authors. One-third did not refer to having used an informed consent. In two studies, participants were recruited by their workplace superiors, which could potentially right to autonomy and voluntary participation. CONCLUSION: Over half of the included studies with second victims did not comply with fundamental ethical aspects, with risk to inflict respect for individual autonomy, confidentiality, and of not causing any harm to participants. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING RESEARCH: Healthcare personnel involved in adverse events are most often nursing professionals; therefore, any breach of ethics in research with this population is likely to directly affect their rights as research participants. We provide recommendations to promote better research practices with second victims towards safeguarding their rights as research participants.

OBJECTIVE: This study is conducted as a bibliometric analysis to determine the trends in studies related to family-centered care in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Web of Science database was used to collect study data. A search was conducted on Web of Science using the keywords "family-centered care", "family centered care", "family-centred care", "family centred care", "family-integrated care", "family integrated care", "patient and family centered care", "patient- and family-centered care" and "child" or "pediatric" or "pediatrics" or "child" or "newborn" or "neonatal" or "adolescent" together. The VOSviewer program was used for data analysis and visualization. The analysis included the number of publications by year, distribution by journals, most cited studies, countries with the highest publication output, most frequently used keywords, and co-authorship dimensions, presented with visual maps. RESULTS: A total of 2525 studies conducted from 1980 onwards were analyzed. The analysis revealed that the initial publications related to the subject emerged in 1980, and the United States was identified as the country with the highest number of publications, based on the Web of Science database. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families (JPN) was determined as the journal with the highest number of publications, while the journal receiving the most citations was PEDIATRICS. CONCLUSION: The study found an increasing importance given to the Family-Centered Care Approach since the 1980s, with a majority of studies being descriptive in nature. It was determined that the studies were concentrated in the USA indicating a lack of global interest in the Family-Centered. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: Nursing researchers can build upon this study in the field of family-centered care by conducting more specific and in-depth investigations. This contributes to adding new information to the nursing literature and filling gaps in this area.

BACKGROUND: With an increasing number of doctor of nursing practice (DNP) graduates, the volume of peer-reviewed journal publications among DNP-prepared nurses is rising. PURPOSE: The primary aim of this study was to quantify, analyze, and categorize DNP-authored peer-reviewed journal publications. METHODS: A descriptive research design was used to analyze DNP-authored peer-reviewed journal publications in the WorldCat, EBSCO Discovery Service, and PubMed databases from 2011 through 2021. RESULTS: The 3839 journal publications included at least one DNP-prepared nurse author. There were 2495 (65%) publications with a DNP first author, 921 (24%) with a DNP solo author, and 2918 (76%) included publication collaboration. The majority of publications were practice- (40%), nursing- (17%), and education-focused (15%). Science translation in evidence-based practice and quality improvement publications accounted for 24%. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the proliferation of DNP-authored peer-reviewed journal publications, which may indicate an increase in the number of nursing care quality initiatives occurring in the clinical setting.

BACKGROUND: With the exponential growth of publications in the field of investigator-initiated research/trials (IIRs/IITs), it has become necessary to employ text mining and bibliometric analysis as tools for gaining deeper insights into this area of study. By using these methods, researchers can effectively identify and analyze research topics within the field. METHODS: This study retrieved relevant publications from the Web of Science Core Collection and conducted bioinformatics analysis. The latent Dirichlet allocation model, which is based on machine learning, was utilized to identify subfield research topics. RESULTS: A total of 4315 articles related to IIRs/IITs were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection. After excluding duplicates and articles with missing abstracts, a final dataset of 3333 articles was included for bibliometric analysis. The number of publications showed a steady increase over time, particularly since 2000. The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Switzerland, and France emerged as the most productive countries in terms of IIRs/IITs. The citation analysis revealed intriguing trends, with certain highly cited articles showing a significant increase in citation frequency in recent years. A model with 45 topics was deemed the best fit for characterizing the extensively researched fields within IIRs/IITs. Our analysis revealed 10 top topics that have garnered significant attention, spanning domains such as community health, cancer treatment, brain development and disease mechanisms, nursing research, and stem cell therapy. These top topics offer researchers valuable directions for further investigation and innovation. Additionally, we identified 12 hot topics, which represent the most cutting-edge and highly regarded research areas within the field. CONCLUSION: This study contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the current research landscape and provides valuable insights for researchers working in this domain.

BACKGROUND: Music therapy (MT) has received increasing attention from scholars in the efficacy treatment of anxiety symptoms, which is of great significance to human physical and mental health. The visual mapping functionality of CiteSpace and Vosviewer software was applied in this study to assess the status of MT in the treatment of anxiety symptoms. METHODS: In order to find research on MT and anxiety that were relevant for this research, we searched the Web of Science database. We also utilized CiteSpace and VOSviewer software to examine institutions, journals, authors, publications, and keywords for scientometric and visual analysis. RESULTS: Our findings show that since 2009, the field has developed rapidly and publications on MT and anxiety have gradually increased. The journal Complement Therapies In Medicine published the most relevant articles, the Cochrane Database Of Systematic Reviews journal had the highest citation frequency, and the United States had the most publications. The majority of the top academic institutions in the region are found in the United States, with the University of London having the most publications. The evolution of this field was significantly influenced by Gold C., the author with the most publications, and Bradt J., the author with the most co-citations. The topics of anxiety, nursing, cancer, and pain management have been the focus of this research. CONCLUSION: This study has the potential to increase public understanding of MT and anxiety as well as mental health awareness, all of which are crucial for lowering the prevalence of mental diseases.

AIMS: This article explored the publication impact of evidence-based healthcare terminology to determine usage and discuss options for low usage terms. BACKGROUND: A plethora of terms describe the scholarship of evidence-based healthcare. Several terms are synonyms, creating redundancy and confusion. The abundance and overlap of terms may impede the discovery of evidence. DESIGN: This discursive article explored and discussed publication impact of evidence-based healthcare terms. METHODS: Evidence-based healthcare terms were identified, and their 10-year (2013-2022) publication impact was assessed in the CINAHL and Medline databases. A card sort method was also used to identify terms with low usage. RESULTS: A total of 18/32 terms were included in the review. The terms evidence-based practice, quality improvement, research and translational research were the most highly published terms. Publication data were presented yearly over a 10-year period. Most terms increased in publication use over time, except for three terms whose use decreased. Several terms related to translational research have multiple synonyms. It remains unknown whether these terms are interchangeable and possibly redundant, or if there are nuanced differences between terms. CONCLUSION: We suggest a follow-up review in 3-5 years to identify publication trends to assess context and terms with continued low publication usage. Terms with persistent low usage should be considered for retirement in the reporting of scholarly activities. Additionally, terms with increasing publication trends should be treated as emerging terms that contribute to evidence-based healthcare terminology. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING: Confusion about the use of appropriate terminology may hinder progress in the scholarship of evidence-based healthcare. We encourage scholars to be aware of publication impact as it relates to the use of specific terminology and be purposeful in the selection of terms used in scholarly projects and publications.

BACKGROUND: The Nursing Education Model (NEM) introduced a framework for education reform. This study examined the applications of NEM in education to determine whether modifications to NEM were warranted. METHOD: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses for Scoping Reviews process for scoping reviews was used. Online databases and searches identified peer-reviewed articles published from 2010-to June 2023, and 71 articles were identified that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS: Six themes were derived from the findings: (1) learner-centered curricula; (2) instructional methods; (3) inclusive classrooms; (4) pedagogical creativity; (5) bridge theory-clinical divide; and (6) multiple units of analysis. CONCLUSION: The findings support the application of the NEM to promote a paradigm shift in instructional content, methods, and evaluation of outcomes. Based on use of the model identified in the literature, future modifications to NEM may be indicated, based on continued evidence. [J Nurs Educ. 2024;63(3):141-147.].
