RESUMO

Using a 1-year longitudinal design, we examined the role of personal demands and personal resources in long-term health impairment and motivational processes among master students. Based on the job demands-resources theory and transactional model of stress, we hypothesized that students’ personal demands (i.e., irrational performance demands, awfulizing and irrational need for control) predict perceived study demands one year later, and indirectly relate to burnout. Furthermore, we predicted that personal resources indirectly associate with study engagement via students’ perceived study resources one year later. These hypotheses were tested in a sample of Dutch master students (N = 220 at T1 and T2) using structural equation modelling. As hypothesized, personal demands and personal resources at T1 predicted study demands and study resources one year later (T2, β = .25–.42, p <. 05), respectively. Study-home interference [study demand] mediated the association between personal demands and burnout (β = .08, p = .029), whereas opportunities for development [study resource] mediated the association between personal resources and study engagement (β = .08, p = .014). Hence, personal demands and personal resources relate indirectly to students’ burnout and engagement one year later via a heightened level of specific study demands and study resources. Accordingly, the present research expands the propositions of the JD-R Theory by proposing personal demands as a relevant factor for students’ long-term well-being. (AU)

RESUMO

The objective of this study was twofold: to validate the Watching TV Series Motives Questionnaire (WTSMQ) for the Portuguese population and to understand its relationship with loneliness. WTSMQ was validated through an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Besides, multi-group CFAs according to gender were conducted having been tested four levels of measurement invariance: configural, metric, scalar, and error variance. Several multiple linear regressions were carried out to estimate the relationship between sociodemographics, series preferences, loneliness and watching TV series motives. Results showed that the Portuguese version of WTSMQ presents good psychometric properties and that configural and metric were achieved, but not scalar and error variance invariance providing some evidence that the WTSMQ operates similarly in males and females. Results also showed that gender, age, TV series preferences, and loneliness contribute to explain different dimensions of Watching TV Series Motives. Also, sociodemographic variables, TV series preferences and WTSMQ subscales explain loneliness. The relationship between the motives for binge-watching and loneliness is bidirectional; sociodemographic variables and series preferences that explain those motives and loneliness overlap. Implications for tracking problematic Binge-watching situations are discussed. (AU)

RESUMO

The main goal of the present research is to develop and validate the Perceived Economic Inequality Scale (PEIS), an instrument measuring individuals’ perceptions of economic inequality at the national level. The study was conducted on a representative sample of the Italian population (N = 1,446, 51% women). The factorial structure of the scale was assessed through cross-validated exploratory-confirmatory factor analyses. To inspect the PEIS psychometric properties, item and correlation analyses were performed. The results showed that the PEIS is a valid and reliable unidimensional measure of perceived economic inequality at the national level. Further support of the PEIS construct validity was provided by the correlation of the scale score with the perceived wage gap and ideological beliefs like the economic system justification, social dominance orientation, meritocratic beliefs, and participants’ political orientation. Crucially, multigroup confirmatory factor analysis supported configural, metric, and scalar invariances of the scale across socio-demographic groups. The PEIS allows researchers to assess the subjective component of economic inequality by also serving as a useful tool for unpacking the psychological correlates of perceived inequality. (AU)

Task-oriented is linked to the tendency of Physical Education students to be associated with a higher likelihoodof being physically active in the future and outside of Physical Education classes, while ego-oriented motivation is linked to a lower likelihood of developing active lifestyles. However, existing literature has shown that self-efficacy perception is also a variable that determines the intention to be active. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the relationships between motivational orientationand the intention to be active, examining the role of motor self-efficacy in these relationships. To this end, astructural equation model was developed in which direct and indirect effects between the variables were evaluated. A total of 478 adolescents aged between 13 and 18 years old (M=14.57; SD=1.15) participated in this research. The Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ), the Motor Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES), and the Intention of Being Physically Active Scale (MIFA) were used to collect information. The data showed a positive and direct relationship between task orientation with motor self-efficacy and intention to be active. Likewise, the data showed a positive and direct relationship between ego orientation and motor self-efficacy, but not to be active. Additionally, indirect and positive effects were observed between task and ego orientation to be active. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that it might be necessary to consider self-efficacy to better understand the relationships between motivational orientations and intention to be active.(AU)

Beach volleyball is an important team sport in which physical, technical, tactical, and psychological/social aspects are fundamental to sporting performance. However, this is the first review to analyse scientific production on psychological variables in beach volleyball. This is an integrative review in which a systematic search was carried out in five electronic databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus/EBSCO, SciELO, Scopus and BIREME) until September 2022. The terms used were "beach volleyball" OR "voleibolde praia" OR "vôlei de praia". In addition, the search included research with athletes, acute and chronic outcomes, and studies of various methods (e.g.,experimental, observational) involving psychological variables. The initial search identified 652 articles, and after the manual search and application of the inclusion criteria, 18 studies were integrated into a final synthesis. Most of the studies were published between 2011 and 2022 (n= 14; 77.78%). Observational design was the main method used (n= 10; 55.56%). The studies were grouped into nine major topics for synthesis: stress situation, activation levels, concentration, goal orientation and motivation, mental fatigue and performance, anxiety, and performance, discouraging environments, relationships between team members, coping strategies. In general, social relationships and self-control appear significant for performance; thus, coaches must serve as role models for players and sports psychologists can aid in monitoring psychological variables, team dynamics, and develop psychological skills.(AU)

The aim of thepresent study was to investigate the effectiveness of selected cognitive-motor intervention on the level of physical literacy (PL) and executive functions of Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) girls in a one-month follow-up plan. The statistical population included 30 girls with ADHD, all from Yazd (15 participants per group, experimental and control) were selected based on DSM-V criteria. While the control group was not exposed to any treatment andjust continued working as usual, the experimental group participated in 18 sessions (3 sessions a week) of the cognitive-motor program. In order to evaluate PL, the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy Second Edition (CAPL-2), and for executive function the Continuous Performance Test (sustained attention) and Computer Mapping of the Tower of London task (motion planning) were used. Data analysis wa also conducted using the mixed varianceanalysis test with repeated measures and an independent T-test at a significance level of p≤.05. According to the results, the experimental group had better performance in PL and executive functions (sustained attention and movement planning) in the posttest and follow-up than the pretest. But, in the control group, no significant difference was observed between the test stages. Moreover, comparing the groups, the experimental group had better performance than the control group in PL, sustained attention, and movement planning. Therefore, cognitive-motor intervention can be used to develop PL and executive functions of ADHD girls.(AU)

Para avaliar a PL, foi utilizado o Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy Second Edition (CAPL-2), e para a função executiva o Continuous Performance Test (atenção sustentada) e a tarefa de Computer Mapping of the Tower of London (planeamentomotor).

The present study seeks to ascertain whether the academic procrastination of university pre-service teachers varied during the COVID-19 pandemic when compared to data collected from another sample (n = 794) taken before the pandemic, and the reasons that might explain this. 910 pre-service teachers responded to the PASS scale, Academic Procrastination Scale, Unintentional Procrastination Scale, Active Procrastination Scale, and the New General Self-Efficacy Scale during the pandemic. The results reflect greater procrastination than for the pre-pandemic sample; 37.8% felt that their procrastination had increased due to the pandemic, which was more evident amongst women, whereas 8.7% reported having procrastinated less, displaying the highest level of self-efficacy. In both instances, the most commonly alleged reasons were greater time management, together with changes they were forced to make in their study habits. We discuss the implications that might need to be considered when planning and organizing teaching, should a similar situation occur again. (AU)

(AU)

Recent studies of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), applied to the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (CPFDL), have shown that they can reduce craving and smoking. However, there is little research that has evaluated the effects of tDCS on motivation and self-efficacy to quit smoking. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of tDCS on the pattern of consumption, motivation and perceived self-efficacy to quit smoking in 16 people with Tobacco Use Disorder (TUD). A time series design with intrasubject ABAB replication was used. The treatment consisted of applying 10 repeated sessions of tDCS at 1.5 mA for 20 minutes on the CPFDL (cathode F3 and anode F4), one daily session for two weeks (Monday to Friday). After a one-month rest phase, the intra-subject treatment was replicated under identical conditions. The entire intervention lasted nine weeks and was completed by 10 participants. The results showed a significant reduction in nicotine dependence, the number of cigarettes smoked and the levels of carbon monoxide (CO) in the exhaled air. Furthermore, we observed a significant improvement in motivation and perceived self-efficacy to quit smoking. These findings suggest that the tDCS, applied on the CPFDL, may be an effective technique to use as adjunctive therapy to other pharmacological and / or psychological strategies used in the Addictive Behavior Units, or other drug addiction care centers. However, more studies are needed to investigate the interaction between the effects of nicotine and tDCS to find the optimal treatment strategy. (AU)

Introduction: The new generations of students, such as the current generation Z or digital natives, have provoked the need to implement new teaching methodologies where students are active and participative subjects in their own learning process. Among these methodologies, the use of game-based learning can be considered an alternative to reinforce the classic ‘master class’ in university teaching. Subjects and methods: Use of game-based learning (serious games), in students enrolled in the subject of Human Anatomy I (Locomotor System), first year of the Degree of Medicine at the Universidad de Zaragoza. Results: The use of this methodology has been evaluated, by means of a voluntary evaluation survey, in a very positive way, emphasizing the effect on motivation, participation and integration of theoretical and practical contents. Conclusion: Game-based learning should be considered as a powerful alternative that improves motivation, participation and content integration in the higher education classroom.(AU)

RESUMO

The main objective in this article was to identify the links between classical theories on motivation and postulates on the nature and workings of erotic desire, capturing these links in a model of the motivational processing of desire. The paper reviews the most relevant motivation theories identifying their links to the nature of erotic desire, relating the main variables of these motivation theories to the concept of desire, identifying the similarities between the elements of these constructs. The outcome was a theoretical model of the motivational processing of sexual desire that also includes processes for regulating desire in which a highlight is the interaction between external and internal factors in its development. We understand that these implications underpin the need to adopt a motivational and affective approach to erotic desire, as a process that can be self-regulated. This approach stress the need to continue analyzing the affective experience and the motivational process encapsulated in desire in order to increase our understanding of its activation and development (AU)

Depression and parkinsonism are direct consequences of a lesion, usually vascular, that affects some structure of the frontal-subcortical circuit. Their detection represents a diagnostic challenge and has important repercussions in therapeutic management. The case is presented of a 79-year-old male patient with good overall baseline status, who was admitted to a Psychogeriatric Unit after an autolytic attempt. Initially, a non-psychotic frank depression is observed, and an increase in the base of support for walking and bradykinesia is noted. After adjustment of antidepressant treatment, a notable improvement in affective symptoms is evidenced but not in motor symptoms, so it is decided to request a magnetic resonance imaging that shows ischemic lesions in the basal ganglia. This case provides clear support for the frontal-subcortical circuit model, in which the clinical presentation, neuropsychiatric evaluation, neuroimaging data and therapeutic response contribute to understanding the deficits following these types of lesions. We believe that this article will provide brief and accurate information on the pathophysiological mechanisms, evaluation, diagnostic approach, and treatment of the frontal-subcortical syndrome (AU)

RESUMO

With the advent of the new era of employer economy, as the foundation of the enterprise operation, the enterprise staff has become an important resource for the long-term and stable development of the enterprise and the continuous acquisition of their own competitive advantages. How to mobilize the enthusiasm of employees, make employees take the initiative to take responsibility, enhance the sense of belonging to the enterprise, has become an important proposition of the current enterprise organization and management. Based on this background, from the perspective of organizational advantage, this study explores the mechanism of how organizational advantage stimulates employees' responsible behavior by creating a positive psychological atmosphere. At the same time, combined with the questionnaire data of enterprises, this study quantitatively studies the influence of psychological atmosphere on employees' responsibility behavior from the perspective of advantage. Finally, combined with the analysis results, feasible suggestions are put forward for managers to optimize their own enterprise organization and management, create a good psychological atmosphere, and stimulate employees' sense of duty performance and responsibility.(AU)

RESUMO

The cultivation of healthy Work Environments, coupled with the enhancement of Employee Behaviour through effective team building, holds significant importance. There is an increasing scholarly focus on examining the impact of employees' participation in sports on team dynamics and interpersonal relationships within the workplace. The behaviour of employees is significantly impacted by the Work Environment, encompassing both the physical setting and the organisational culture. Furthermore, the implementation of participatory leadership fosters a sense of unity within the team and enhances overall performance through the engagement of team members in the decision-making process. Hence, the objective of this research is to examine the correlation among engagement in sports, the Work Environment, and participative leadership, thereby illustrating their collective impact on team cohesion and Employee Behaviour within contemporary organisational settings. The study was conducted by the researcher using a deductive approach grounded in quantitative research methodology. Research findings indicate a positive correlation between employees' engagement in sports activities, enhanced teamwork, and overall workplace conduct. Moreover, empirical evidence suggests that the presence of a conducive Work Environment, coupled with the implementation of participative leadership practices, significantly contributes to the development of a positive organisational culture and the promotion of desirable employee conduct. Nevertheless, the research has predominantly utilised quantitative data, thereby excluding qualitative perspectives that could provide a more comprehensive understanding of the underlying concepts driving the observed correlations.(AU)

RESUMO

The objective of this study is to examine the associations between physical activity, exercise motivations, sports participation, and mental well-being among university students in Canada. A quantitative research approach was utilised in this study, employing a cross-sectional design and a convenient sampling method. Data were collected from a sample of 500 students enrolled in sports universities. The collected data were then analysed using SPSS software. The study revealed a noteworthy positive correlation between physical activity, exercise motivations, sports involvement, and mental well-being. In particular, there exists a positive association between elevated levels of physical activity (PA), heightened exercise motivations, and increased involvement in sports with improved outcomes in mental health. The results of multiple regression analyses demonstrated that the combination of these three factors accounted for a significant proportion of the variability observed in mental health scores, underscoring their significance in fostering psychological well-being. The results of the study have practical implications for universities in Canada. In order to optimise the welfare of students, educational institutions should give precedence to implementing strategies that foster physical activity within campus premises, facilitate the cultivation of robust exercise motivations, and advocate for active participation in sports. Establishing an atmosphere conducive to mental well-being and comprehensive growth has the potential to enhance the overall academic achievement of students. Additionally, it has been proposed that the research indicators may elicit the release of neurotransmitters such as endorphins and serotonin within the brain, which are known to contribute to an enhanced emotional state. Additionally, it has the potential to enhance one's physical fitness, thereby contributing to an elevated emotional state.(AU)

RESUMO

This study investigates the potential impact of personal self-efficacy and exercise motives on physical activity levels among soccer players in Albania. The study involved a sample size of 400 participants, utilising the purposive sampling technique. The study employed a cross-sectional research design, adopting a quantitative research approach. The data analysis was conducted using the structural equation modelling (SEM) technique with the assistance of the AMOS software. The findings indicate that the various dimensions of exercise motives have a significant influence on individuals' engagement in physical activity. Interpersonal motives demonstrate a significant and favourable correlation with physical activity, highlighting that individuals driven by social and interpersonal factors are more inclined to participate in physical activity. In contrast, the coefficients of body-related and psychological motives do not exhibit statistical significance in predicting physical activity. On the other hand, there is a notable and positive correlation between fitness motives and personal self-efficacy with physical activity. This suggests that people are more likely to engage in physical activity if they have strong self-confidence and fitness goals. The findings of this study contribute to the comprehension of the motivations and obstacles encountered by soccer players from Albania, thereby offering significant insights for the development of targeted interventions. Practitioners have the opportunity to utilise the inherent allure of soccer, highlighting its positive impact on health and cultivating environments that encourage the adoption of healthier and more physically active lifestyles. Additional investigation is warranted to delve into the intricacies of cultural nuances and demographic adaptations in order to augment the precision and reliability of survey outcomes.(AU)

RESUMO

Background: Continuing professional development and continuing education are important components of professional practice for pharmacists. Mandatory continuing professional development requirements have been introduced in several countries, including Jordan. However, information on the uptake of continuing professional development is lacking, particularly in the Jordanian context. Objective: This study’s principal aim was to investigate community pharmacists’ views of continuing professional development and to explore pharmacists’ perceptions of the most common facilitators and barriers to participation in continuing education. Methods: A series of seven focus group sessions were undertaken with groups of four to seven community pharmacists. Focus group transcripts were thematically analyzed using a qualitative data analysis method. Results: The study included 34 pharmacists out of 95 who received invitation letters. Four key themes were identified: (1) community pharmacists’ attitudes toward continuing professional development; (2) perceived motivating factors for continuing professional development; (3) experienced barriers to continuing professional development; (4) and potential strategies for improving pharmacists’ continuing professional development. In terms of attitudes, participants generally understood the concept of continuing professional development. Motivating factors were mainly attributed to personal, work-related, and service provision-related factors. However, experienced barriers that could prevent community pharmacists from participating in continuing professional development despite their motivation were: barriers pertaining to workload, barriers pertaining to pharmacists, and barriers related to lack of resources. RESUMO

Motivational development with regards to sport plays a fundamental role in sport performance, however, anxiety and dietary patterns also play a key role. In consideration of the above, the present research aimed to develop an explanatory model of the motivational climate towards sport and its relationship with the Mediterranean diet and anxiety. This structural model was then examined according to gender using multi-group analysis. To this end, a cross-sectional, descriptive and comparative study was carried out with 556 university students. The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire (PMCSQ-2), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Predimed questionnaire. Finally, outcomes revealed that the female gender had a negative relationship with adherence to a healthy dietary pattern, whilst males showed better adherence to the Mediterranean diet and higher levels of anxiety (AU)
