PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of Kidney Stone Calculator (KSC), a flexible ureteroscopy surgical planning software, to predict the lithotripsy duration with both holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG) and thulium fiber laser (TFL). METHODS: A multicenter prospective study was conducted from January 2020 to April 2023. Patients with kidney or ureteral stones confirmed at non-contrast computed tomography and treated by flexible ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy were enrolled. "Kidney Stone Calculator" provided stone volume and subsequent lithotripsy duration estimation using three-dimensional segmentation of the stone on computed tomography and the graphical user interface for laser settings. The primary endpoint was the quantitative and qualitative comparison between estimated and effective lithotripsy durations. Secondary endpoints included subgroup analysis (Ho:YAG-TFL) of differences between estimated and effective lithotripsy durations and intraoperative outcomes. Multivariate analysis assessed the association between pre- and intraoperative variables and these differences according to laser source. RESULTS: 89 patients were included in this study, 43 and 46 in Ho:YAG and TFL groups, respectively. No significant difference was found between estimated and effective lithotripsy durations (27.37 vs 28.36 min, p = 0.43) with a significant correlation (r = + 0.89, p < 0.001). Among groups, this difference did not differ (p = 0.68 and 0.07, respectively), with a higher correlation between estimated and effective lithotripsy durations for TFL compared to Ho:YAG (r = + 0.95, p < 0.001 vs r = + 0.81, p < 0.001, respectively). At multivariate analysis, the difference was correlated with preoperative (volume > 2000 mm3 (Ho:YAG), 500-750 mm3 SV and calyceal diverticulum (TFL)), operative (fragmentation setting (p > 0.001), and basket utilization (p = 0.05) (Ho:YAG)) variables. CONCLUSION: KSC is a reliable tool for predicting the lithotripsy duration estimation during flexible ureteroscopy for both Ho:YAG and TFL. However, some variables not including laser source may lead to underestimating this estimation.

We aim to investigate the efficacy and safety of laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) in treating recurrent glioblastomas (rGBMs). A comprehensive search was conducted in four databases to identify studies published between January 2001 and June 2022 that reported prognosis information of rGBM patients treated with LITT as the primary therapy. The primary outcomes of interest were progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) at 6 and 12 months after LITT intervention. Adverse events and complications were also evaluated. Eight eligible non-comparative studies comprising 128 patients were included in the analysis. Seven studies involving 120 patients provided data for the analysis of PFS. The pooled PFS rate at 6 months after LITT was 25% (95% CI 15-37%, I2 = 53%), and at 12 months, it was 9% (95% CI 4-15%, I2 = 24%). OS analysis was performed on 54 patients from six studies, with an OS rate of 92% (95% CI 84-100%, I2 = 0%) at 6 months and 42% (95% CI 13-73%, I2 = 67%) at 12 months after LITT. LITT demonstrates a favorable safety profile with low complication rates and promising tumor control and overall survival rates in patients with rGBMs. Tumor volume and performance status are important factors that may influence the effectiveness of LITT in selected patients. Additionally, the combination of LITT with immune-based therapy holds promise. Further well-designed clinical trials are needed to expand the application of LITT in glioma treatment.

Inulin, a polysaccharide characterized by a ß-2,1 fructosyl-fructose structure terminating in a glucosyl moiety, is naturally present in plant roots and tubers. Current methods provide average degrees of polymerization (DP) but lack information on the distribution and absolute concentration of each DP. To address this limitation, a reproducible (CV < 10 %) high throughput (<2 min/sample) MALDI-MRMS approach capable of characterizing and quantifying inulin molecules in plants using matched-matrix consisting of α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid butylamine salt (CHCA-BA), chicory inulin-12C and inulin-13C was developed. The method identified variation in chain lengths and concentration of inulin across various plant species. Globe artichoke hearts, yacón and elephant garlic yielded similar concentrations at 15.6 g/100 g dry weight (DW), 16.8 g/100 g DW and 17.7 g/100 g DW, respectively, for DP range between 9 and 22. In contrast, Jerusalem artichoke demonstrated the highest concentration (53.4 g/100 g DW) within the same DP ranges. Jerusalem artichoke (DPs 9-32) and globe artichoke (DPs 9-36) showed similar DP distributions, while yacón and elephant garlic displayed the narrowest and broadest DP ranges (DPs 9-19 and DPs 9-45, respectively). Additionally, qualitative measurement for all inulin across all plant samples was feasible using the peak intensities normalized to Inulin-13C, and showed that the ratio of yacón, elephant garlic and Jerusalem was approximately one, two and three times that of globe artichoke. This MALDI-MRMS approach provides comprehensive insights into the structure of inulin molecules, opening avenues for in-depth investigations into how DP and concentration of inulin influence gut health and the modulation of noncommunicable diseases, as well as shedding light on refining cultivation practices to elevate the beneficial health properties associated with specific DPs.

BACKGROUND: This study assessed the effect of corticotomy with Er: YAG (erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) laser on the rate of canine retraction. METHODS: This randomized split-mouth controlled clinical trial was conducted on 12 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with extraction of maxillary first premolars. Following initial leveling and alignment, an alginate impression was made from the maxillary arch, and Er: YAG laser corticotomy was performed in one of the maxillary quadrants of each patient. Canine retraction was started immediately after corticotomy by placement of nickel-titanium (NiTi) closed coil springs at both sides. At the end of each month, alginate records were repeated for 4 months. Study models were scanned, and the anteroposterior movement of canine was quantified bilaterally. Pain was also measured by a visual analog scale (VAS). Probing depth (PPD) of canines and two adjacent teeth was also evaluated and pulp vitality was assessed by performing the cold test. Data were analyzed by paired and independent t-test and one-way ANOVA (alpha = 0.05). RESULTS: The rate of canine retraction was significantly greater in the laser-assisted corticotomy quadrant than the control (P < 0.05). No significant difference existed in posterior anchorage loss, canine rotation angle, PPD, pulp vitality, or pain score between two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Flapless Er: YAG laser corticotomy significantly enhanced canine retraction rate with no adverse effect on other parameters.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the incidence of urinary incontinence following transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy with three different prostate apex disconnection techniques: semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation. The findings aim to provide references for clinical treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 74 patients treated with transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy for prostatic hyperplasia from April 2022 to March 2023. Complete clinical and follow-up data were available for 52 patients. Clinical and follow-up data were collected for these patients. A comparison was made of urinary incontinence following the three different types of prostate apex disconnection in transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy. RESULTS: In this study, the immediate postoperative urinary incontinence rate for transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy was 9.62% (5/52), the short-term incontinence rate was 11.54% (5/52), and the long-term incontinence rate was 9.62% (5/52). The immediate postoperative incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and post- separation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 12.5% (2/16), respectively. The short-term incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 18.75% (3/16), respectively. The long-term incontinence rates for semi-separation, pre-separation, and post-separation were 8.33% (1/12), 8.33% (2/24), and 12.5% (2/16), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of urinary incontinence following transurethral thulium laser prostatectomy was lower with semi-separation and pre-separation compared to post-separation.

There are several surgical options described for the treatment of anorectal fistulas, specially in complex cases where recurrence rates and the possibility of postoperative complications are still high. Laser- FiLaC™ has been described in this study as an option in the management of anorectal fistula. The aim of this study was to assess the novel radial laser probe treatment in complex fistula in-ano and report the success rate and recurrence rate. We studied retrospectively 56 patients who, according to our hospital patient records, underwent radial laser probe surgery between March 2019 and August 2020. In a mean follow-up time of 6 months, the success rate at 2 months was 86.0%. Most operations were done under spinal anesthesia. The recovery time was rapid and median sick leave was 7 days. Of those initially successfully treated, 3.0% developed a recurrence. Altogether 4.0% of the patients underwent a re-operation. There is a good success rate using FiLaC™ treatment. FiLaC™ is very effective in treatment of complex fistula and as well as recurrence of fistula. It has a short hospital stay and as well as it is painless surgical technique that should be largely used in our country.

In mass spectrometry imaging (MSI), ion suppression can lead to a misinterpretation of results. Particularly phospholipids, most of which exhibit high gas-phase basicity (GB), are known to suppress the detection of metabolites and drugs. This study was initiated by the observation that the signal of an herbicide, i.e., atrazine, was suppressed in MSI investigations of earthworm tissue sections. Herbicide accumulation in earthworms was investigated by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI). Additionally, earthworm tissue sections without accumulation of atrazine but with a homogeneous spray deposition of the herbicide were analyzed to highlight region-specific ion suppression. Furthermore, the relationship of signal intensity and GB in binary mixtures of lipids, amino acids, and atrazine was investigated in both MSI techniques. The GB of atrazine was determined experimentally through a linear plot of the obtained intensity ratios of the binary amino acid mixtures, as well as theoretically. The GBs values for atrazine of 896 and 906 kJ/mol in ToF-SIMS and 933 and 987 kJ/mol in MALDI-MSI were determined experimentally and that of 913 kJ/mol by quantum mechanical calculations. Compared with the GB of a major lipid component, phosphatidylcholine (GBPC = 1044.7 kJ/mol), atrazine's experimentally and computationally determined GBs in this work are significantly lower, making it prone to ion suppression in biological samples containing polar lipids.

The feasibility of low frequency pure tone generation in the inner ear by laser-induced nonlinear optoacoustic effect at the round window was demonstrated in three human cadaveric temporal bones (TB) using an integral pulse density modulation (IPDM). Nanosecond laser pulses with a wavelength in the near-infrared (NIR) region were delivered to the round window niche by an optical fiber with two spherical lenses glued to the end and a viscous gel at the site of the laser focus. Using IPDM, acoustic tones with frequencies between 20 Hz and 1 kHz were generated in the inner ear. The sound pressures in scala tympani and vestibuli were recorded and the intracochlear pressure difference (ICPD) was used to calculate the equivalent sound pressure level (eq. dB SPL) as an equivalent for perceived loudness. The results demonstrate that the optoacoustic effect produced sound pressure levels ranging from 140 eq. dB SPL at low frequencies ≤ 200 Hz to 90 eq. dB SPL at 1 kHz. Therefore, the produced sound pressure level is potentially sufficient for patients requiring acoustic low frequency stimulation. Hence, the presented method offers a potentially viable solution in the future to provide the acoustic stimulus component in combined electro-acoustic stimulation with a cochlear implant.

PURPOSE: To explore changes in corneal epithelial thickness (CET) after femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis in patients with high astigmatism. METHODS: CET was measured at every intersection of the concentric circles and specific axes using AngioVue optical coherence tomography (Angio-OCT) preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively. The average thickness of corneal central, paracentral, and peripheral regions was the mean of the points within the central 2, 2 to 5, and 5 to 7 mm areas, respectively. Correlation analysis was performed to investigate the association between CET along different axes and other preoperative and postoperative parameters. RESULTS: Forty-two eyes of 28 patients were included. CET along the astigmatic (K1) and perpendicular (K2) axes in the central and paracentral areas increased (P < .001), whereas that along the K2 axis decreased in the peripheral area 1 month postoperatively (P = .001). The amount of CET change in the peripheral area between the K1 and K2 axes was significantly different (P < .001). In the central area, the change in CET along the K2 axis was positively correlated with ablation depth (r = 0.315, P = .042) and negatively with refractive power after surgery (r = -0.347, P = .024). In the peripheral area, the changes in CET along both K1 and K2 axes were negatively correlated with ablation depth (r = -0.431, P = .004; r = -0.387, P = .011, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Epithelial modeling differed between the different astigmatism axes after refractive surgery. OBJECTIVES: To develop and practically test high-precision femtosecond laser ablation models for dental hard tissue that are useful for detailed planning of automated laser dental restorative treatment. METHODS: Analytical models are proposed, derived, and demonstrated for practical calculation of ablation rates, ablation efficiency and ablated morphology of human dental enamel and dentin using femtosecond lasers. The models assume an effective optical attenuation coefficient for the irradiated material. To achieve ablation, it is necessary for the local energy density of the attenuated pulse in the hard tissue to surpass a predefined threshold that signifies the minimum energy density required for material ionization. A 1029 nm, 40 W carbide 275 fs laser was used to ablate sliced adult human teeth and generate the data necessary for testing the models. The volume of material removed, and the shape of the ablated channel were measured using optical profilometry. RESULTS: The models fit with the measured ablation efficiency curve against laser fluence for both enamel and dentin, correctly capturing the fluence for optimum ablation and the volume of ablated material per pulse. The detailed shapes of a 400-micrometer wide channel and a single-pulse width channel are accurately predicted using the superposition of the analytical result for a single pulse. CONCLUSIONS: The findings have value for planning automated dental restorative treatment using femtosecond lasers. The measurements and analysis give estimates of the optical properties of enamel and dentin irradiated with an infrared femtosecond laser at above-threshold fluence and the proposed models give insight into the physics of femtosecond laser processing of dental hard tissue.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Femtosecond laser trabeculotomy (FLT) creates aqueous humor outflow channels through the trabecular meshwork (TM) and is an emerging noninvasive treatment for open-angle glaucoma. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of pulse energy on outflow channel creation during FLT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An FLT laser (ViaLase Inc.) was used to create outflow channels through the TM (500 µm wide by 200 µm high) in human cadaver eyes using pulse energies of 10, 15, and 20 µJ. Following treatment, tissues were fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde. The channels were imaged using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and assessed as full thickness, partial thickness, or not observable. RESULTS: Pulse energies of 15 and 20 µJ had a 100% success rate in creating full-thickness FLT channels as imaged by OCT. A pulse energy of 10 µJ resulted in no channels (n = 6), a partial-thickness channel (n = 2), and a full-thickness FLT channel (n = 2). There was a statistically significant difference in cutting widths between the 10 and 15 µJ groups (p < 0.0001), as well as between the 10 and 20 µJ groups (p < 0.0001). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the 15 and 20 µJ groups (p = 0.416). CONCLUSIONS: Fifteen microjoules is an adequate pulse energy to reliably create aqueous humor outflow channels during FLT in human cadaver eyes. OCT is a valuable tool when evaluating FLT.

Alopecia, also known as hair loss, is a highly prevalent condition affecting millions of men and women in the United States and worldwide, making it one of the most common complaints by patients presenting to a dermatologist. The symptomology on the presentation of alopecia can be highly variable, ranging from diffuse thinning of hair, discrete and localized patches completely absent of hair, or noticing significant shedding when brushing and showering. Although alopecia does not have a direct negative health impact on patients, it is nonetheless a debilitating disease as it can profoundly impact an individual's self-image and psychosocial well-being. There are multiple treatment options available to patients with alopecia, and they are typically tailored to the patient's needs and preferences. The most common of these is the Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs for alopecia, minoxidil, and finasteride. However, both of these are known to be partially efficacious for all patients, so clinicians often use different modalities in conjunction with them, in particular laser-based therapies. This review article will provide a comprehensive assessment of lasers and other light therapies that may be used to manage the two most common types of alopecia: androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata.

BACKGROUND: One of the common esthetic complaints of patients is horizontal neck wrinkles that have limited treatment modality. AIM: In the present study, we evaluated the efficacy of the Endolift laser on the horizontal neck wrinkles. METHODS: Totally, 10 healthy female and male patients suffering horizontal neck wrinkles were joined in this study. All patients are treated with Endolift laser. The effect of the Endolift methods on the horizontal neck wrinkles was evaluated by biometric parameter changed results with Cutometer, Visioface, and the Skin Ultrasound Imaging system. Also, three blinded dermatologists and patients' satisfaction were evaluated. RESULTS: The Visoface results showed that the Endolift laser treatment significantly decline the depth and area of horizontal neck wrinkle. The skin ultrasonography results reported the epidermis and dermis density and thickness were significantly increased. Also, the cutometer outcomes displayed that the Endolift laser treatment can increase skin elasticity. Also, significantly a greater number of patients were well satisfied with the technique. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, Endolift laser is a safe and effective method for decreasing the horizontal neck wrinkles and improving the appearance of the neck. This procedure does not require general anesthesia and recovery time.

This study aimed to evaluate the changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) before and after femtosecond laser capsulorhexis and lens fragmentation for cataract surgery. We measured the IOP before, immediately, 30 min, and 1 h after the laser procedure in 47 eyes of 47 patients who underwent the femtosecond laser procedure. The mean IOP was 17.51 ± 3.28 mmHg, 30.23 ± 6.70 mmHg, 17.96 ± 3.75 mmHg, and 21.77 ± 5.88 mmHg before, immediately after, 30 min after, and 1 h after the laser procedure, respectively. The mean IOP significantly increased immediately (adjusted P < 0.001) and 1 h (adjusted P = 0.001) after the laser procedure compared with the pre-laser IOP. The mean IOP at 30 min after the laser procedure was significantly lower than that immediately after the procedure (adjusted P < 0.001). However, the IOP 1 h after the laser procedure became higher than that 30 min after the laser procedure. Additionally, the IOP 1 h after the laser procedure was positively correlated with the baseline IOP and negatively correlated with the axial length. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that cataract surgery should be commenced within 30 min after the femtosecond laser procedure to ensure a safe cataract surgery that reduces the risk of increased intraocular pressure.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes of femtosecond thin-flap LASIK (femto-LASIK) for correction of refractive error after penetrating keratoplasty in keratoconus-affected eyes. SETTING: a private ophthalmology clinic. DESIGN: Prospective interventional case series. METHODS: This prospective interventional case series enrolled 22 eyes of 22 patients who underwent femto-LASIK for the management of post-penetrating keratoplasty ametropia. The refractive error, uncorrected (UDVA), and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities and vector analysis were reported in short-term and long-term period after surgery. RESULTS: The mean age was 32.7 ± 7.5 years (range, 23 to 47 years) at the surgery time. The average time between PK and femto-LASIK was 42.5 ± 31.7 months. The average follow-up duration after femto-LASIK was 81.2 ± 18.6 months. The mean preoperative UDVA significantly improved from 0.47 ± 0.15 logMAR to 0.35 ± 0.14 logMAR at 12 months (P = 0.048) and 0.4 ± 0.17 at final follow-up exam (P = 0.007). CDVA was 0.22 ± 0.1 at baseline which improved to 0.18 ± 0.15 and 0.15 ± 0.1 logMAR at 12 and 81 months, respectively. (Ps = 0.027, 0.014). The mean cylinder before surgery was - 5.04 ± 1.4D which significantly decreased to -1.5 ± 0.8 D at 12 months postoperatively. (P < 0.001). There was a significant increase in refractive astigmatism from 12 months to 81 months postoperatively (-3.1 ± 2.0, P = 0.002). At the final visit, the efficacy index was 0.83, and the safety index was 1.16. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the short-term outcome indicated that femo-LASIK was effective for correction of post-keratoplasty ametropia during short-term period, a notable regression in its effect was observed in the long-term follow-up. Therefore, the predictability of this technique might decrease in the long-term.

Significance: In the photoacoustic (PA) technique, the laser irradiation in the time domain (i.e., laser pulse duration) governs the characteristics of PA imaging-it plays a crucial role in the optical-acoustic interaction, the generation of PA signals, and the PA imaging performance. Aim: We aim to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impact of laser pulse duration on various aspects of PA imaging, encompassing the signal-to-noise ratio, the spatial resolution of PA imaging, the acoustic frequency spectrum of the acoustic wave, the initiation of specific physical phenomena, and the photothermal-PA (PT-PA) interaction/conversion. Approach: By surveying and reviewing the state-of-the-art investigations, we discuss the effects of laser pulse duration on the generation of PA signals in the context of biomedical PA imaging with respect to the aforementioned aspects. Results: First, we discuss the impact of laser pulse duration on the PA signal amplitude and its correlation with the lateral resolution of PA imaging. Subsequently, the relationship between the axial resolution of PA imaging and the laser pulse duration is analyzed with consideration of the acoustic frequency spectrum. Furthermore, we examine the manipulation of the pulse duration to trigger physical phenomena and its relevant applications. In addition, we elaborate on the tuning of the pulse duration to manipulate the conversion process and ratio from the PT to PA effect. Conclusions: We contribute to the understanding of the physical mechanisms governing pulse-width-dependent PA techniques. By gaining insight into the mechanism behind the influence of the laser pulse, we can trigger the pulse-with-dependent physical phenomena for specific PA applications, enhance PA imaging performance in biomedical imaging scenarios, and modulate PT-PA conversion by tuning the pulse duration precisely.

To investigate the in vivo and in situ effect of different types of lasers in prevention of enamel demineralization in high caries risk cases (around orthodontic brackets, around restoration and in caries susceptible pits and fissures). PubMed was searched using the following keyword sequence; (Laser therapy OR laser irradiation OR laser application) AND (enamel caries prevention OR enamel demineralization OR enamel remineralization OR early enamel caries OR early-enamel caries OR enamel resistance OR enamel decalcification OR white spot lesions WSLs OR incipient lesion OR enamel decay OR enamel Dissolution OR enamel microhardness) AND (clinical trial OR Randomized clinical trial OR In situ study). The latest literature search was ended by "30 January 2023". PubMed was used as a primary data base for study selection. Scopus, EBSCO, and Google scholar are checked in our study after results of systematic search on PubMed. Only duplicates were found. Two meta-analyses were carried out. The first, clinical meta-analysis on incidence of white spot lesions (WSLs) following CO2 laser irradiation of enamel. The second meta-analysis on ex-vivo/in situ effect of CO2 laser on microhardness of enamel. In each meta-analysis three studies were included. Risk of bias was assessed. The search identified eight studies (four ex-vivo and four clinical trials). Regarding the clinical meta-analysis, the overall standardized mean difference was 0.21 [ 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.15-0.30, p < 0.00001]. This indicates that the incidence of new WSLs in patients who received low power CO2 laser treatment was highly significantly lower than placebo groups. The heterogeneity was considerable (I2 = 71%). In the second meta-analysis, the overall standardized mean difference was 49.55 [ 95% confidence interval (CI): 37.74, 61.37, p < 0.00001]. This indicates that microhardness of enamel receiving low power (0.4-5 W) CO2 laser irradiation is highly significantly lower than control untreated enamel. The heterogeneity was substantial (I2 = 48%). Within the limitations of this study, Low level laser therapy concept with CO2 laser seems to be effective in preventing enamel caries.Prospero registration number: CRD42023437379.

RATIONALE: Atmospheric pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (AP-MALDI) mass spectrometry has enabled the untargeted analysis and imaging of neuropeptides and proteins in biological tissues under ambient conditions. Sensitivity in AP-MALDI can be improved by using sample-specific preparation methods. METHODS: A comprehensive and detailed optimization strategy including instrument parameters, matrix spraying and sample tissue washing pretreatment was implemented to enhance the sensitivity and coverage of neuropeptides in mouse pituitary tissues by commercial AP-MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MSI). RESULTS: The sensitivity of a commercial AP-MALDI system for endogenous neuropeptides in mouse pituitary was enhanced by up to 15.2-fold by shortening the transmission gap from the sample plate to the inlet, attaching copper adhesive tape to an indium tin oxide-coated glass slide, optimizing the matrix spray solvent and using sample tissue washing pretreatment. Following careful optimization, the distributions of nine endogenous neuropeptides were successfully visualized in the pituitary. Furthermore, the quantitative capability of AP-MALDI for neuropeptides was evaluated and the concentrations of neuropeptides oxytocin and vasopressin in the pituitary posterior lobe were increased approximately twofold under hypertonic saline stress. CONCLUSION: Mouse pituitary neuropeptides have emerged as important signaling molecules due to their role in stress response. This work indicates the potential of modified AP-MALDI as a promising AP MSI method for in situ visualization and quantification of neuropeptides in complex biological tissues.

A systematic review was conducted to determine the trends in devices and parameters used for brain photobiomodulation (PBM). The revised studies included clinical and cadaveric approaches, in which light stimuli were applied to the head and/or neck. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases were used for the systematic search. A total of 2133 records were screened, from which 97 were included in this review. The parameters that were extracted and analysed in each article were the device design, actuation area, actuation site, wavelength, mode of operation, power density, energy density, power output, energy per session and treatment time. To organize device information, 11 categories of devices were defined, according to their characteristics. The most used category of devices was laser handpieces, which relate to 21% of all devices, while 28% of the devices were not described. Studies for cognitive function and physiological characterisation are the most well defined ones and with more tangible results. There is a lack of consistency when reporting PBM studies, with several articles under defining the stimulation protocol, and a wide variety of parameters used for the same health conditions (e.g., Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease) resulting in positive outcomes. Standardization for the report of these studies is warranted, as well as sham-controlled comparative studies to determine which parameters have the greatest effect on PBM treatments for different neurological conditions.

OBJECTIVE: To prove the effectiveness of the low-intensity laser radiation application in the treatment of wounds of different origin. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The clinical study involved 110 persons, divided into 55 subjects in both the study and control groups. The patients of the study group were exposed to the long-wave short-pulse neodymium laser immediately and within 35 days after interventions with a skin incision using it, in a way that wound treated with laser received low-level laser therapy. The control group patients' wounds were treated with standard methods by the means of topical drugs corresponding to the clinical manifestations of the wound process in each particular case. The study was carried out in the hospital of the department of maxillofacial and plastic surgery of the dental complex of the «Russian University of Medicine¼ from 2019 to 2022, and further conservative treatment was conducted in the department of dermatology and cosmetology of the University Hospital of the Medical Graduate School (Institute) of the RSSU. All wounds were classified into three groups for the convenience of systematization and formation of a generalized treatment protocol for postoperative surgical wounds. RESULTS: The objectivity and optimality of the chosen by us actions were confirmed in the conducted work. The formed scars were visually assessed on the POSAS scale at the end of the treatment by patients and 4 independent doctors, as well as each scar was visually assessed by four independent doctors and patients. At the end of the study we formed and proposed an algorithm for the treatment of surgical wounds of various origins. The parameters of the Aerolase Neo Light Pod neodymium laser for the treatment of patients with different types of skin wounds were clinically determined. Experimentally proven properties of the Aerolase Neo Light Pod neodymium laser on accelerating the healing process of surgical wounds through photobiomodulation mechanism support their regeneration with the formation of negligible normotrophic scars, as well as reduce the length of patients' treatment in surgical hospitals, as compared to patients receiving standard external drugs.
