RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To explore the potential of different quantitative dynamic contrast-enhanced (qDCE)-MRI tracer kinetic (TK) models and qDCE parameters in discriminating benign from malignant soft tissue tumors (STTs). METHODS: This research included 92 patients (41females, 51 males; age range 16-86 years, mean age 51.24 years) with STTs. The qDCE parameters (Ktrans, Kep, Ve, Vp, F, PS, MTT and E) for regions of interest of STTs were estimated by using the following TK models: Tofts (TOFTS), Extended Tofts (EXTOFTS), adiabatic tissue homogeneity (ATH), conventional compartmental (CC), and distributed parameter (DP). We established a comprehensive model combining the morphologic features, time-signal intensity curve shape, and optimal qDCE parameters. The capacities to identify benign and malignant STTs was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC), degree of accuracy, and the analysis of the decision curve. RESULTS: TOFTS-Ktrans, EXTOFTS-Ktrans, EXTOFTS-Vp, CC-Vp and DP-Vp demonstrated good diagnostic performance among the qDCE parameters. Compared with the other TK models, the DP model has a higher AUC and a greater level of accuracy. The comprehensive model (AUC, 0.936, 0.884-0.988) demonstrated superiority in discriminating benign and malignant STTs, outperforming the qDCE models (AUC, 0.899-0.915) and the traditional imaging model (AUC, 0.802, 0.712-0.891) alone. CONCLUSIONS: Various TK models successfully distinguish benign from malignant STTs. The comprehensive model is a noninvasive approach incorporating morphological imaging aspects and qDCE parameters, and shows significant potential for further development.

RESUMEN

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a main cause of low back pain (LBP), which can lead to disability and thus generate a heavy burden on society. IVDD is characterized by a decrease in nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) and endogenous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), degradation of the extracellular matrix, macrophage infiltration, and blood vessel and nerve ingrowth. To date, the therapeutic approaches regarding IVDD mainly include conservative treatment and surgical intervention. However, both can only relieve symptoms rather than stop or revert the progression of IVDD, since the pathogenesis of IVDD is not yet clear. Pyroptosis, which is characterized by Caspase family dependence and conducted by the Gasdermin family, is a newly discovered mode of programmed cell death. Pyroptosis has been observed in NPCs, annulus fibrosus cells (AFCs), chondrocytes, MSCs, macrophages, vascular endothelial cells and neurons and may contribute to IVDD. MSCs are a kind of pluripotent stem cell that can be found in almost all tissues. MSCs have a strong ability to secrete extracellular vesicles (EVs), which contain exosomes, microvesicles and apoptotic bodies. EVs derived from MSCs play an important role in pyroptosis regulation and could be beneficial for alleviating IVDD. This review focuses on clarifying the regulation of pyroptosis to improve IVDD by MSCs and EVs derived from MSCs.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Inter body spacers have been widely used in patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery; however, it is not clear whether one implant shows superior clinical outcomes compared with the other. This systematic review and meta-analysis comprehensively evaluated the radiologic outcomes and patient-reported outcomes of structural allograft versus polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implants in patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery. METHODS: Extensive literature searches were conducted on online databases, including MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Cochrane Library, until January 2023. The present study adheres to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias tool were used to assess the quality of the included studies. RESULTS: Fifteen studies, encompassing 8020 patients, met the eligibility criteria. The results indicate that structural allografts show a higher fusion rate compared with PEEK implants (odds ratio [OR], 1.88; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05-3.37; P =0.03; I2 = 71%). In addition, the structural allograft group also had a lower pseudarthrosis rate (OR, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.20-0.80; P = 0.009; I2 = 75%) and reoperation rate (OR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.26-0.81; P = 0.007; I2 = 38%). CONCLUSIONS: Our systematic review and meta-analysis show that structural allograft has a higher fusion rate compared with PEEK implants in patients undergoing spinal fusion surgery. In addition, structural allograft has a lower pseudarthrosis rate and reoperation rate.

RESUMEN

Schizophyllan (SPG), a ß-glucan produced by the fungus Schizophyllum commune, possesses a ß-(1 â†’ 3)-linked backbone with single ß-(1 â†’ 6)-linked glucose side chains at approximately every third residue. In this study, we screened SPG-producing strains of S. commune from different provinces in China. A candidate strain (NTU-1) with a high SPG yield was chosen, and the fermentation conditions were optimized. The optimal carbon and nitrogen sources were sucrose (40 g/L) and yeast extract (20 g/L), respectively. The optimal conditions for pH and temperature were 5.0 and 28 °C, respectively. Inclusion of 0.2 mg/L of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in the medium further increased the SPG concentration. In a 5-L bioreactor, the fermentation cycle was reduced from the initial seven days to five days, and the concentration of SPG obtained was 21.3 g/L, which is the highest reported to date. In addition, we evaluated the bioactivity of the SPG prepared using strain NTU-1. The results showed that SPG had certain characteristics of anti-oxidation, anti-photoaging, and inhibition of melanin production, making it a promising reagent for skin care.

RESUMEN

Comprehension of whether human and livestock presence affects wildlife activity is a prerequisite for the planning and management of humans and livestock in protected areas. Xinglong Mountain Nature Reserve (XMNNR) in northwest China, as a green island in a semi-arid mountain ecosystem, is one of the scattered and isolated areas for Alpine musk deer (AMD), an endangered species. AMD cohabits their latent habitat area with foraging livestock and humans. Hence, habitat management within and outside the distribution areas is crucial for the effective conservation of AMD. We applied camera traps to a dataset of 2 years (September 2018-August 2020) to explore seasonal activity patterns and habitat use and assess the impacts of AMD habits in XMNNR. We investigated AMD responses to livestock grazing and human activities and provided effective strategies for AMD conservation. We applied MaxENT modeling to predict the distribution size under current conditions. The activity patterns of the AMD vary among seasons. The optimum habitat average distance to cultivated land ranges of AMD (150~3300 m during grass period/100~3200 m during withered grass period), distances to the residential area ranges (500~5700 m during the grass period/1000~5300 m during the withered grass period), elevation ranges (2350~3400 m during the grass period/2360~3170 m during the withered grass period), aspect ranges (0~50° and 270~360°), normalized vegetation index ranges (0.64~0.72 during the grass period/0.14~0.60 during the withered grass period), and land cover types (forest, shrub, and grassland). Results present that the predicted distributions of AMD were not confined to the areas reported but also covered other potential areas. The results provide evidence of strong spatial-temporal avoidance of AMD in livestock, but gradually adjusting to human activities. These camera trap datasets may open new opportunities for species conservation in much wider tracts, such as human-dominated landscapes, and may offer guidance and mitigate impacts from livestock, as well as increase artificial forest planting and strengthen the investigation of the potential population resources of AMD.

RESUMEN

Studying the spatio-temporal niche partitioning among closely related sympatric species is essential for understanding their stable coexistence in animal communities. However, consideration of niche partitioning across multiple ecological dimensions is still poor for many sympatric pheasant species. Here, we studied temporal activity patterns and spatial distributions of the Blue Eared Pheasant (EP, Crossoptilon auritum) and Blood Pheasant (BP, Ithaginis cruentus) in the Qilian Mountains National Nature Reserve (QMNNR), Northwestern China, using 137 camera traps from August 2017 to August 2020. Kernel density estimation was applied to analyze diel activity patterns, and the Maxent model was applied to evaluate their suitable distributions and underlying habitat preferences. Eight Galliformes species were captured in 678 detection records with 485 records of EP and 106 records of BP over a total of 39,206 camera days. Their monthly activity frequencies demonstrate temporal partitioning but their diel activity patterns do not. Furthermore, 90.78% of BP distribution (2867.99 km2) overlaps with the distribution of EP (4355.86 km2) in the QMNNR. However, BP manifests a high dependence on forest habitats and shows larger Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values, while EP showed obvious avoidance of forest with NDVI greater than 0.75. Hence, differentiation in monthly activity patterns and partitioning in habitat preference might facilitate their coexistence in spatiotemporal dimensions. Conservation actions should give priority to highly overlapping areas in the center and east of the QMNNR and should strengthen forest landscape connectivity, as they provide irreplaceable habitats for these threatened and endemic Galliformes.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Recently, chlorfenapyr and diafenthiuron have been widely used to prevent and control diseases and pests in tea production. However, rare studies have investigated the dissipation patterns of chlorfenapyr, diafenthiuron and their metabolites simultaneously in tea matrices. Here, we established an analytical method to investigate the degradation patterns of five target compounds in tea shoots and made tea samples. Moreover, the dietary intake risk assessment of chlorfenapyr-diafenthiuron mixture among Chinese populations was evaluated based on the supervised field experiment. RESULTS: The mean recoveries of the primary analytes at five spiking levels were between 95.6% and 112.6% in tea shoots and made tea, respectively, and the values of RSD (relative standard deviation) were lower than 9.7% for all the target analytes. The field trial results showed that the half-lives of chlorfenapyr and diafenthiuron based on the residue definition were 10.0-12.4 days and 4.3-5.9 days, respectively, in tea shoots. For the dietary intake risk assessment, the risk quotient (RQ) values in made tea ranged from 30.4% to 73.9% at the pre-harvest interval of 14 days, which were significantly less than 100%. CONCLUSION: The accuracy and precision of the developed method were satisfied by the measurement requirements according to the validation results. The dynamic dissipation experiments suggested that diafenthiuron was much easier to dissipate than chlorfenapyr. Moreover, the existence of tralopyril made the half-life of chlorfenapyr significantly increase, indicating that practical application of chlorfenapyr should take careful consideration of its metabolite. Finally, the potential chronic dietary risks of the chlorfenapyr-diafenthiuron mixture to human communities were within the acceptable range. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

Chlorfenapyr has been widely used in recent years to control a variety of pests on fruit and vegetables. Cabbage, leek, asparagus, and chive are four of the most common green foods consumed word wide; their pesticide residue issues have also received more attention. Therefore, studies on the residue analysis, degradation evaluation and dietary risk assessment based on the complete residue definition of chlorfenapyr on these four vegetables were essential and urgently needed. A reliable analytical method was developed and applied to simultaneously determine the content of chlorfenapyr and its metabolite tralopyril residues on the four vegetables. Recoveries were satisfactory (84%-110% for chlorfenapyr; 83%-106% for tralopyril) at a spiked level of 0.01-1 mg/kg, with intraday precision (n = 5) and interday precision (n = 15) ranging from 1.6% to 8.9% and from 2.4% to 9.1%, respectively. The limits of quantification (LOQs) were all 0.01 mg/kg. On the basis of supervised field trials, the degradation half-lives of chlorfenapyr were 1.2-9.8 days. Chlorfenapyr rapidly degraded on asparagus, but persisted much longer on chive. The terminal concentration of chlorfenapyr residues varied from <0.01 to 0.84 mg/kg. Additionally, the risk quotients (RQs) ranged from 4.7% to 13.8%, suggesting that chlorfenapyr had a negligible risk for chronic dietary intake of these crops. This study was thus significant in evaluating the degradation rate and quality safety of chlorfenapyr on various vegetables and promoted the development of maximum residue limits.

RESUMEN

Velocity and displacement measurements play an important role not only in the process of industrial production and metrology on the ground but also in satellite gravity measurement in space. A high-precision all-fiber heterodyne velocity and displacement interferometer based on digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) Doppler tracking is proposed in this paper. The target velocity is measured by tracking the heterodyne frequency changes of the beat-note signal, and the displacement is obtained by the integrated phase of the Doppler frequency change. A dual-signal differential optical-path scheme combined with DPLL signal tracking technology enables high-precision and high-linearity measurement of velocity and displacement simultaneously. For integration and compactness, the interferometer uses all-fiber optics that are packaged in a small box with dimensions of 150×150×70m m 3, except for an externally fiber-connected collimator as the sensor head. The experimental results show a velocity sensitivity below 30p m/s/H z 1/2 in the 0.03-2 Hz band and a displacement sensitivity below 10p m/H z 1/2 above 0.4 Hz.

RESUMEN

Strawberries are widely cultivated and highly consumed globally, but pests and diseases can severely affect yields. Phenamacril and difenoconazole are high-efficacy pesticides and the mixture of these two pesticides offers a satisfactory option for disease control. In this study, an optimised QuEChERS method combined with dispersive solid-phase extraction purification before injection for simultaneously determining the residues of phenamacril-difenoconazole mixture on strawberries was developed and validated using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). Average recoveries of phenamacril and difenoconazole in the strawberry matrices ranged from 100% to 104% and 99% to 104%, with relative standard deviations of 2.6%-5.3% and 2.2%-5.5%, respectively. The degradation half-lives of phenamacril and difenoconazole were 3.5-6.6 days and 2.2-3.4 days on strawberries, respectively. Final residues of phenamacril and difenoconazole on strawberries at eight different cultivation regions were 0.033-0.66 mg kg-1 and <0.02-0.089 mg kg-1 after spraying at the maximum dosage recommended by the company of 300 mg a.i. kg-1 twice, respectively. Overall, this study is the first report of phenamacril and difenoconazole residue analysis in strawberries. Therefore, it could provide the reference data for safe management and proper use of phenamacril and difenoconazole in China.

RESUMEN

An in-plane displacement sensor based on an asymmetric extrinsic fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer (EFPI) is proposed and demonstrated. The asymmetric EFPI composed of a step-shaped external reflector and a cleaved fiber end face can be equivalent to two parallel FPIs with slightly different cavity lengths. By calculating the peak intensity difference of the two FPIs, the in-plane displacement can be demodulated with enhanced sensitivity and suppressed common mode noise. Both theoretical analyses and experimental results show that the sensitivity and the linear range of the in-plane displacement sensor are dependent on the cavity length. A displacement resolution of 5 nm and a linear range of ±7µm under the cavity length of 250 µm are achieved in the experiment. The proposed in-plane displacement sensor with a nanometric resolution and compact size can be widely used in the fields of metrology, accelerometers, and semiconductor manufacture.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Flonicamid and dinotefuran are widely applied to control pests and diseases in various economic crops arousing much public concerns about the potential risk to human health. In this study, the multi-determination and residual behavior of flonicamid-dinotefuran mixture on peach trees were investigated. The chronic risk of long-term dietary intake for Chinese consumers was evaluated. RESULTS: An optimized QuEChERS method combined with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) analysis for simultaneous determination of flonicamid, dinotefuran and its metabolites was established to analyze the residual dissipation and terminal residues in peach matrices. The results demonstrated that (i) a satisfactory linearity relationship with the detector response and the correlation coefficient R2 > 0.999, the average recoveries of these four analytes ranged from 94 to 108%, the relative standard deviation was between 1.0% and 8.8%, and the limit of the quantitation was 0.02 mg kg-1 ; (ii) the dissipation behaviors of flonicamid and dinotefuran followed with the first-order dynamic kinetics model, and the half-lives were 6.9-12.4 days and 8.1-15.1 days, respectively; (iii) the recommended preharvest interval (PHI) was 21 days, the risk quotient (RQ) values of flonicamid and dinotefuran were 16.6 and 20.7%, respectively, which were significantly less than 100%. CONCLUSION: The established analytical method met the detection requirement in terms of sensitivity, accuracy, and precision. Additionally, the results indicated that the potential dietary intake risk of the flonicamid-dinotefuran mixture on peach trees was negligible. This work can be utilized in the safe and responsible use of flonicamid-dinotefuran mixture and provide guidance for establishing its maximum residue limit (MRL) in China. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMEN

The residue detection method and field dissipation dynamics of the pymetrozine-clothianidin mixture in strawberries were investigated combining QuEChERS pretreatment and LC-MS/MS analysis to provide a reference for the safe use of pymetrozine and clothianidin mixture on strawberries. Good linearity (R2 > 0.999) was obtained for pymetrozine and clothianidin within the range of 0.005-1 µg mL-1. Method validations indicated that the recovery for pymetrozine and clothianidin was 84.2-101.4%, intra-day and inter-day repeatability ranged from 1.8 to 8.1% and from 4.1 to 7.0%, respectively. Following application of the recommended dose in field trials, pymetrozine and clothianidin dissipation followed first-order kinetics with half-lives of 6.8-13.9 days in strawberries at four locations. Moreover, owing to risk quotient < 100%, a mixture pesticide of 30% suspension concentrates (25% pymetrozine + 5% clothianidin) was unlikely to give rise to vital health concerns to humans following the recommended application guidelines. This study can be utilized in safety assessment and developing spray schedules for this mixed pesticide in strawberries.

RESUMEN

Here, a high sensitivity gas sensing ink based on sulfonated rGO (S-rGO) decorated with SnS2 is synthesized for room temperature NO2 and NH3 detection. This sensing ink demonstrated an excellent sensitivity to ppb-level NO2 (17% response to 125 ppb) and sub-ppm-level NH3 (11% response to 1 ppm). The unique absorption properties of SnS2 improve the sensitivity of S-rGO 4.2 and 55 times to NO2 and NH3, respectively. Besides, the superhydrophobicity of the SnS2 endows the sensor with exceptional immunity to high relative humidity (RH). Furthermore, the sensors exhibit negligible degradation to NO2 and less than 15% degradation to NH3 in a wide range of RH from 30 (ambient humidity) to 90%. More importantly, the obtained full-written ink can be applied to common substrates, such as glass, clothes, and paper, and maintain excellent performance after being bent and twisted by 180°.

RESUMEN

This work performs a time-dependent wavepacket study of the H2 + C2H → H + C2H2 reaction on a new ab initio potential energy surface (PES). The PES is constructed using neural network method based on 68 478 geometries with energies calculated at UCCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ level and covers H2 + C2H↔H + C2H2, H + C2H2 → HCCH2, and HCCH2 radial isomerization reaction regions. The reaction dynamics of H2 + C2H → H + C2H2 are investigated using full-dimensional quantum dynamics method. The initial-state selected reaction probabilities are calculated for reactants in eight vibrational states. The calculated results showed that the H2 vibrational excitation predominantly enhances the reactivity while the excitation of bending mode of C2H slightly inhibits the reaction. The excitations of two stretching modes of C2H molecule have negligible effect on the reactivity. The integral cross section is calculated with J-shift approximation and the mode selectivity in this reaction is discussed. The rate constants over 200-2000 K are calculated and agree well with the experimental measured values.

RESUMEN

An eight-dimensional quantum dynamical model is proposed and applied to the title reaction. The reaction probabilities and integral cross sections have been determined for both the ground and excited vibrational states of the two reactants. The results indicate that the H2 stretching and CH3 umbrella modes, along with the translational energy, strongly promote the reactivity, while the CH3 symmetric stretching mode has a negligible effect. The observed mode specificity is confirmed by full-dimensional quasi-classical trajectory calculations. The mode specificity can be interpreted by the recently proposed sudden vector projection model, which attributes the enhancement effects of the reactant modes to their strong couplings with the reaction coordinate at the transition state.
