RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The excessive production and accumulation of melanin in the epidermal skin layer can result in skin hyperpigmentation and darkening. Current technologies for regulating melanin are based on inhibiting melanin biosynthesis. They have low effectiveness and safety issues. AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the potential role of Pediococcus acidilactici PMC48 as a probiotic strain in medicines and cosmetics for skin treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Meanwhile, our research team has reported that P. acidilactici PMC48 strain isolated from sesame leaf kimchi can directly decompose the already synthesized melanin. It can also inhibit melanin biosynthesis. In the present study, we investigated the skin-whitening effect of this strain by arranging an 8-week clinical trial with 22 participants. PMC48 was applied to each participant's artificially UV-induced tanned skin in the clinical trial. Its whitening effect was investigated based on visual evaluation, skin brightness, and melanin index. RESULTS: PMC48 showed a significant effect on the artificially induced pigmented skin. The color intensity of the tanned skin was decreased by 47.647%, and skin brightness was increased by 8.098% after the treatment period. PMC48 also significantly decreased the melanin index by 11.818%, indicating its tyrosinase inhibition capacity. Also, PMC48 improved skin moisture content level by 20.943%. Additionally, 16S rRNA-based amplicon sequencing analysis showed a distinct increase in Lactobacillaceae in the skin by up to 11.2% at the family level without affecting other skin microbiota. Furthermore, it showed no toxicity in in vitro or in vivo analyses. DISCUSSION: These results indicate that P. acidilactici PMC48 is a promising probiotic strain that can be used to develop medicines and cosmetic products to solve skin-related problems. CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrate that P. acidilactici PMC48 can be a potential probiotic for the cosmetic industry against different skin disorders.

RESUMO

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD)-associated pruritus is a severe distressing condition that frequently occurs in patients undergoing dialysis. In this study, the profile of the skin microbiome was analyzed to understand the underlying etiology and potential treatments. Methods: Seventy-six end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients (hemodialysis, 40; peritoneal dialysis, 36) and 15 healthy controls were enrolled and swabbed at three sites: back, antecubital fossa, and shin. The pruritus severity of the enrolled subjects was validated by the Worst Itch Numeric Rating Scale (WI-NRS), 5-D itch scale, and Uremic Pruritus in Dialysis Patients (UP-Dial). The 16S gene-based metagenomics method was applied to skin microbiome analysis. Results: In the comparison of bacterial communities of ESKD patients and the control group, there was a significant difference on back. Specifically, the average composition ratio of the Cutibacterium in the back samples was significantly lower in ESKD patients than in healthy controls (p < 0.01). In further analysis of ESKD patients, Cutibacterium was significantly lower in the high pruritus group than in the low pruritus group (p < 0.05), even though other clinical parameters such as age, calcium-phosphorus product, and intact parathyroid hormone showed no significance difference between the groups. Conclusion: In ESKD patients, the skin microbiome of the back was significantly altered, and the severity of itching was related to the reduction of Cutibacterium. This research reveals the relationship between skin microbiota and CKD-associated pruritus in multiple skin sites for the first time. The results of this study suggest a potential data basis for the diagnosis and treatment of CKD-associated pruritus.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Early mobilization is an integral part of an enhanced recovery program after colorectal cancer surgery. The safety and efficacy of postoperative inpatient exercise are not well known. The primary objective was to determine the efficacy of a postoperative exercise program on postsurgical recovery of stage I-III colorectal cancer patients. METHODS: We randomly allocated participants to postoperative exercise or usual care (1:1 ratio). The postoperative exercise intervention consisted of 15 min of supervised exercise two times per day for the duration of their hospital stay. The primary outcome was the length of stay (LOS) at the tertiary care center. Secondary outcomes included patient-perceived readiness for hospital discharge, anthropometrics (e.g., muscle mass), and physical function (e.g., balance, strength). RESULTS: A total of 52 (83%) participants (mean [SD] age, 56.6 [8.9] years; 23 [44%] male) completed the trial. The median LOS was 6.0 days (interquartile range; IQR 5-7 days) in the exercise group and 6.5 days (IQR 6-7 days) in the usual-care group (P = 0.021). The exercise group met the targeted LOS 64% of the time, while 36% of the usual care group met the targeted LOS (colon cancer, 5 days; rectal cancer, 7 days). Participants in the exercise group felt greater readiness for discharge from the hospital than those in the usual care group (Adjusted group difference = 14.4; 95% CI, 6.2 to 22.6; P < 0.01). We observed a small but statistically significant increase in muscle mass in the exercise group compared to usual care (Adjusted group difference = 0.63 kg; 95% CI, 0.16 to 1.1; P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: Postsurgical inpatient exercise may promote faster recovery and discharge after curative-intent colorectal cancer surgery. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered at WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP; URL http://apps.who.int/trialsearch ); Trial number: KCT0003920 .

RESUMO

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is the most prevalent and common nutritional deficiency worldwide and is a global health problem with significant risk, particularly among women of reproductive age. Oral iron supplementation is the most widely used and cost-effective treatment for iron deficiency and IDA. However, there are limitations regarding side effects such as enteritis, treatment compliance, and bioavailability. Intestinal microbiome characteristic research has been recently conducted to overcome these issues, but more is needed. Against this background, a metagenomics study on the 16S gene in the feces of young women vulnerable to IDA was conducted. As a result of analyzing 16 normal subjects and 15 IDA patients, significant differences in bacterial community distribution were identified. In particular, a significant decrease in Faecalibacterium was characteristic in IDA patients compared with normal subjects. Furthermore, in the case of patients who recovered from IDA following iron supplementation treatment, it was confirmed that Faecalibacterium significantly recovered to normal levels. However, no significance in beta diversity was seen compared with before treatment. There were also no differences in the beta diversity results between the recovered and normal subjects. Therefore, intestinal dysbiosis during the disease state was considered to be restored as IDA improved. Although the results were derived from a limited number of subjects and additional research is needed, the results of this study are expected to be the basis for developing treatment and prevention strategies based on host-microbiome crosstalk in IDA.

RESUMO

An imbalanced gut microbiome has been linked to a higher risk of many bone-related diseases. The objective of this study was to discover biomarkers of osteoporosis (OP). So, we collected 76 stool samples (60 human controls and 16 OP patients), extracted DNA, and performed 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) gene-based amplicon sequencing. Among the taxa with an average taxonomic composition greater than 1%, only the Lachnospira genus showed a significant difference between the two groups. The Linear Discriminant Effect Size analysis and qPCR experiments indicated the Lachnospira genus as a potential biomarker of OP. Moreover, a total of 11 metabolic pathways varied between the two groups. Our study concludes that the genus Lachnospira is potentially crucial for diagnosing and treating osteoporosis. The findings of this study might help researchers better understand OP from a microbiome perspective. This research might develop more effective diagnostic and treatment methods for OP in the future.

RESUMO

6-Bromoindirubin (6BrIR), found in Murex sea snails, is a precursor of indirubin-derivatives anticancer drugs. However, its synthesis remains limited due to uncharacterized biosynthetic pathways and difficulties in site-specific bromination and oxidation at the indole ring. Here, we present an efficient 6BrIR production strategy in Escherichia coli by using four enzymes, that is, tryptophan 6-halogenase fused with flavin reductase Fre (Fre-L3-SttH), tryptophanase (TnaA), toluene 4-monooxygenase (PmT4MO), and flavin-containing monooxygenase (MaFMO). Although most indole oxygenases preferentially oxygenate the electronically active C3 position of indole, PmT4MO was newly characterized to perform C2 oxygenation of 6-bromoindole with 45% yield to produce 6-bromo-2-oxindole. In addition, 6BrIR was selectively generated without indigo and indirubin byproducts by controlling the reducing power of cysteine and oxygen supply during the MaFMO reaction. These approaches led to 34.1 mg/L 6BrIR productions, making it possible to produce the critical precursor of the anticancer drugs only from natural ingredients such as tryptophan, NaBr, and oxygen.

RESUMO

Ginkgolic acid (C13:0) (GA), isolated from Ginkgo biloba, is a potential therapeutic agent for type 2 diabetes. A series of GA analogs were designed and synthesized for the evaluation of their structure-activity relationship with respect to their antidiabetic effects. Unlike GA, the synthetic analog 1e exhibited improved inhibitory activity against PTPN9 and significantly stimulated glucose uptake via AMPK phosphorylation in differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes and C2C12 myotubes; it also induced insulin-dependent AKT activation in C2C12 myotubes in a concentration-dependent manner. Docking simulation results showed that 1e had a better binding affinity through a unique hydrophobic interaction with a PTPN9 hydrophobic groove. Moreover, 1e ameliorated palmitate-induced insulin resistance in C2C12 cells. This study showed that 1e increases glucose uptake and suppresses palmitate-induced insulin resistance in C2C12 myotubes via PTPN9 inhibition; thus, it is a promising therapeutic candidate for treating type 2 diabetes.

RESUMO

The rapid detection of viruses is becoming increasingly important to prevent widespread infections. However, virus detection via reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is time-consuming, as it involves independent nucleic acid extraction and complementary DNA synthesis. This process limits the potential for rapid diagnosis and mass analysis, which are necessary to curtail viral spread. In this study, a simple and rapid thermolysis method was developed to circumvent the need for extraction and purification of viral RNA. The developed protocol was applied to one-chip digital PCR (OCdPCR), which allowed thermolysis, RT, and digital PCR in a single unit comprising 20,000 chambers of sub-nanoliter volume. Two viruses such as tobacco mosaic virus and cucumber mosaic virus were tested as model viral particles. First, the temperature, exposure time, and template concentration were optimized against tobacco mosaic viral particles, and the most efficient conditions were identified as 85°C, 5 min, and 0.01 µg/nL with a cycle threshold of approximately 33. Finally, the OCdPCR analysis yielded 1,130.2 copies/µL using 10-2 µg/nL of viral particles in a 30 min thermolysis-RT reaction at 70°C. This novel protocol shows promise as a quick, accurate, and precise method for large-scale viral analysis in the future.

RESUMO

As NGS (next-generation sequencing) technology develops, metagenomics-based microbial ecology, that is, microbiome research, has recently led to the science of fermented food. Based on the above technology, a study was conducted to understand the characteristics of vinegar made from bokbunja, a local crop in Gochang-gun, Korea. Physicochemical characteristics of vinegar, organic acid analysis, microbial community analysis, and electronic tongue analysis were explored while fermenting the vinegar for 70 days under eight fermentation conditions according to the concentration of bokbunja liquid (100% or 50%), type of fermenter (porcelain jar or stainless container), and fermentation environment (natural outdoor conditions or temperature/oxygen controlled). As a result, distinct microbial community patterns were found in the stage of acetic acid fermentation and, accordingly, this fermentation of Gochang vinegar is classified into three categories. Vinegar prepared by the traditional method of outdoor fermentation using jars showed characteristics of "Acetobacter (42.1%)/Lactobacillus (56.9%) fusion fermentation". Under conditions where oxygen and temperature were controlled indoors using jars, characteristics of "Komagataeibacter (90.2%) fermentation" were found. "Lactobacillus (92.2%) fermentation" characteristics were discovered under natural outdoor conditions using stainless steel containers. These fermentation pattern differences were related to taxonomic phylogenetic diversity, which was also considered involved in determining organic acid production and taste. These results will be helpful as a scientific basis for understanding the fermentation characteristics of Gochang vinegar and developing high-value-added traditional vinegar products.

RESUMO

Introduciton: The α,ω-diamines (NH2-(CH2)n-NH2) and ω -amino fatty acids (NH2-(CH2)n-COOH) have been widely used as building blocks in polymerindustries. Medium- to long-chain (C8 to C18) fatty acid monomers with amino residues are almost exclusively produced via chemical processes that generate hazardous waste and induce severe environmental problems, such as global warming and pollution. Here, we present the construction platformstrains of Yarrowia lipolytica a cheese-ripening yeast, for direct biotransformation of hydrocarbons into medium- to long-chain α,ω-diamines and ωamino fatty acids using metabolic engineering of endogenous fatty acid ω- and ß-oxidation pathways and introducing heterologous ω-transaminase in Y. lipolytica. Methods: We deleted six genes encoding the acyl-CoA oxidase (ACO1-6) and four fatty aldehyde dehydrogenase genes (FALDH1-4), which catalyze fatty acid ß-oxidation and downstream oxidation of fatty aldehydes in Y. lipolytica, respectively. The ω-transaminase from Chromobacterium violaceum DSM30191 was introduced into the genome of the ΔPOX ΔFALDH strain under the control of Y. lipolytica-derived EXP1 promoters. Results and Discussion: The ΔPOX ΔFALDH strains with ω-CvTA successfully accumulated the corresponding C12 αω-diamines into a shaking culture medium with dodecane or dodecanol. In addition, these strains accumulated C12 ω-amino fatty acids from dodecanoic acid. With the commercially available α,ω-diacid bioprocess, this yeast biosynthesis producing medium- and longchain α,ω-diamines and ω-amino fatty acids could complete the yeast platform technology generating all medium- and long-chain aliphatic polyamide monomers, α,ω-biofunctionalized with one or both carboxylic acid and amino residues.

RESUMO

Violacein is a pigment synthesized by Gram-negative bacteria such as Chromobacterium violaceum. It has garnered significant interest owing to its unique physiological and biological activities along with its synergistic effects with various antibiotics. In addition to C. violaceum, several microorganisms, including: Duganella sp., Pseudoalteromonas sp., Iodobacter sp., and Massilia sp., are known to produce violacein. Along with the identification of violacein-producing strains, the genetic regulation, quorum sensing mechanism, and sequence of the vio-operon involved in the biosynthesis of violacein have been elucidated. From an engineering perspective, the heterologous production of violacein using the genetically engineered Escherichia coli or Citrobacter freundii host has also been attempted. Genetic engineering of host cells involves the heterologous expression of genes involved in the vio operon and the optimization of metabolic pathways and gene regulation. Further, the crystallography of VioD and VioE was revealed, and mass production by enzyme engineering has been accelerated. In this review, we highlight the biologically assisted end-use applications of violacein (such as functional fabric development, nanoparticles, functional polymer composites, and sunscreen ingredients) and violacein activation mechanisms, production strains, and the results of mass production with engineered methods. The prospects for violacein research and engineering applications have also been discussed.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to identify the association between physical fitness (cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal) and the distribution of abdominal fat in overweight and obese adults. METHODS: Of the total 102 overweight and obese participants, 99 participants completed all measurements. Cardiopulmonary fitness was assessed by maximal oxygen consumption test and muscular fitness was assessed using 10 repetition max. Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) were assessed by computed tomography (CT) at the level of lumbar spine 4-5. RESULTS: Cardiopulmonary fitness was inversely associated with both VAT and SAT, while muscular fitness only inversely associated with SAT. Multiple linear regression analyses indicated that gender, age, and cardiopulmonary fitness, but not muscular fitness, were associated with VAT, and age, cardiopulmonary fitness, and muscular fitness were significantly associated with SAT. CONCLUSIONS: Cardiopulmonary fitness is more closely related to both VAT and SAT while muscular fitness is related with SAT.

RESUMO

α,ω-Dodecanediol is a versatile material that has been widely used not only as an adhesive and crosslinking reagent, but also as a building block in the pharmaceutical and polymer industries. The biosynthesis of α,ω-dodecanediol from fatty derivatives, such as dodecane and dodecanol, requires an ω-specific hydroxylation step using monooxygenase enzymes. An issue with the whole-cell biotransformation of 1-dodecanol using cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (CYP) with ω-specific hydroxylation activity was the low conversion and production of the over-oxidized product of dodecanoic acid. In this study, CYP153A33 from Marinobacter aquaeolei was engineered to obtain higher ω-specific hydroxylation activity through site-directed mutagenesis. The target residue was mutated to increase flux toward α,ω-dodecanediol synthesis, while reducing the generation of the overoxidation product of dodecanoic acid and α,ω-dodecanedioic acid. Among the evaluated variants, CYP153A33 P136A showed a significant increase in 1-dodecanol conversion, i.e., 71.2% (7.12 mM from 10 mM 1-dodecanol), with an increased hydroxylation to over-oxidation activity ratio, i.e., 32.4. Finally, the applicability of this engineered enzyme for ω-specific hydroxylation against several 1-alkanols, i.e., from C6 to C16, was investigated and discussed based on the structure-activity relationship.

RESUMO

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between physical activity (PA) levels and mental health in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: Three hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan area were invited to recruit patients with SCI (n = 103). PA levels were measured by the Leisure Score Index of the Godin Leisure-Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ). The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) questionnaire, and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were used to assess mental health. Results: Compared to the least physically active participants (1st tertile, 44.09 ± 52.74 min/week), the most physically active participants (3rd tertile, 670.86 ± 354.97 min/week) scored significantly lower on PHQ-9 (17.03 ± 5.70 vs. 12.49 ± 4.01, p < 0.001), GAD-7 (13.24 ± 4.78 vs. 9.86 ± 3.15, p < 0.001), while significantly higher MSPSS (51.24 ± 10.17 vs. 61.37 ± 11.90, p < 0.001) after the results were adjusted for age, gender, American Spinal Cord Injury Association impairment scale, and impaired spinal cord levels. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that the PA was a significant predictor of depression (ß = -1.50, p = 0.01), anxiety (ß = -1.12, p = 0.02), and social support (ß = 4.04, p = 0.01). Conclusion: Higher PA participation was associated with lower depression, anxiety, and higher social support scores.

RESUMO

Cytochrome P450s (CYPs) are heme-thiolated enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of CH bonds in a regio and stereoselective manner. Activation of the non-activated carbon atom can be further enhanced by multistep chemo-enzymatic reactions; moreover, several useful chemicals can be synthesized to provide alternative organic synthesis routes. Given their versatile functionality, CYPs show promise in a number of biotechnological fields. Recently, various CYPs, along with their sequences and functionalities, have been identified owing to rapid developments in sequencing technology and molecular biotechnology. In addition to these discoveries, attempts have been made to utilize CYPs to industrially produce biochemicals from available and sustainable bioresources such as oil, amino acids, carbohydrates, and lignin. Here, these accomplishments, particularly those involving the use of CYP enzymes as whole-cell biocatalysts for bioresource biotransformation, will be reviewed. Further, recently developed biotransformation pathways that result in gram-scale yields of fatty acids and fatty alkanes as well as aromatic amino acids, which depend on the hosts used for CYP expression, and the nature of the multistep reactions will be discussed. These pathways are similar regardless of whether the hosts are CYP-producing or non-CYP-producing; the limitations of these methods and the ways to overcome them are reviewed here.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Although adjuvant chemotherapy can have an impact on physical activity (PA), PA level has not been studied in patients with stage II-III colon cancer. This study investigated PA levels during and between chemotherapy cycles. METHODS: We objectively measured PA levels for 2 weeks during the 2nd and 11th chemotherapy cycles. In addition, self-reported PA levels were assessed before chemotherapy initiation, during 2nd, 6th, and 12th chemotherapy cycles. This study included 22 men and 33 women with stage II-III colon cancer patients (57 ± 9 years). RESULTS: Before the initiation of chemotherapy, most cancer patients were minimally active. Compared with the 1st week of chemotherapy, moderate- and light-intensity PA levels significantly increased during the 2nd week of chemotherapy. Patients increased moderate- and light-intensity PA from 217.4 to 290.3 min per week and from 585.7 to 657.8 min per week, respectively (p < 0.01). PA levels did not show any difference between the 2nd and 12th cycles when objectively measured, or between baseline and 2nd, 6th, and 12th cycles when self-reported. CONCLUSION: PA levels during chemotherapy cycles are initially low, and then increase towards the end of the cycle; however, PA levels do not change between chemotherapy cycles. Future work with broader and larger samples size is recommended.

RESUMO

Ultraviolet-B (UVB) irradiation causes imbalance between dermal matrix synthesis and degradation through aberrant upregulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which leads to overall skin photoaging. We investigated the effects of extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from human adipose-derived stem cells (HASCs) on photo-damaged human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs). EVs were isolated from conditioned media of HASCs with tangential flow filtration and characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), western blotting, micro RNA (miRNA) arrays, cytokine arrays and liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The effects of EVs on the UVB-irradiated HDFs were evaluated using scratch assay, ELISA and real-time PCR. Microarrays exhibited that EVs are rich in various miRNAs and proteins, and that these EV contents are linked to a broad range of biological functions, including fibroblast proliferation, UV protection, collagen biosynthesis, DNA repair and cell ageing. A scratch assay showed that HASC-EVs enhanced the migration ability of UVB-irradiated HDFs. Real-time RT-PCR and ELISA analyses revealed that the HASC-derived EVs significantly suppressed the overexpression of MMP-1, -2, -3 and -9 induced by UVB irradiation and enhanced the expression of collagen types I, II, III and V and elastin. In particular, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 and transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1, which are important factors involved in MMP suppression and ECM synthesis, were upregulated in EV-treated HDFs after UVB irradiation. Overall results suggest that diverse components that are enriched in HASC-derived EVs could act as a biochemical cue for recovery from skin photoaging.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this randomized controlled trial study was to investigate the effect of combined exercise program on the fasting insulin and fitness levels of people with spinal cord injury (SCI). METHODS: A total of 19 individuals with SCI participated in a combined exercise program consisting of aerobic and resistance exercises for 60 min per day, 3 days per week for 6 weeks. Peak oxygen consumption, body mass index, percent body fat, waist circumference, shoulder abduction and adduction, shoulder flexion and extension, elbow flexion and extension, fasting insulin levels, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) levels were measured at baseline and after the intervention. RESULTS: The 6-week exercise program significantly decreased the average fasting insulin (baseline: 7.5 ± 4.7 µU/ml vs. post-intervention: 4.5 ± 2.2 µU/ml, p < 0.05) and HOMA-IR (baseline: 1.5 ± 1.0 vs. post-intervention: 0.9 ± 0.4, p < 0.05) in the exercise group, whereas there was no change in control group (between group difference, mean fasting insulin: - 3.2 µU/ml, p = 0.003; mean HOMA-IR: - 0.66, p = 0.001). In addition, muscle strength of the shoulder flexors, extensors, abductors, adductors, and elbow flexors was significantly improved in the exercise group compared to the controls. CONCLUSION: A combined exercise program is effective in decreasing fasting insulin and HOMA-IR levels while improving fitness in those with SCI. RESUMO

PURPOSE: Physical activity has been known to improve survival and quality of life of patients with breast cancer. To find factors associated with physical activity, we analyzed the dataset of the multicenter controlled trial of exercise intervention. METHODS: Three hundred fifty-six participants were assigned to two groups: "Smart After-Care" (smartphone application and pedometer were provided) or exercise education only. Physical activity was measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) at baseline and after 12 weeks. The association between physical activity and other clinical characteristics was analyzed. RESULTS: At baseline, physical activity amount was 2315.5 ± 3513.2 MET min/week: 33.0% inactive, 49.6% minimally active, and 17.4% health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA) active. Factors associated with HEPA include cancer stage and grip strength. A significantly lower proportion was HEPA active among those with advanced stage than among those with stage 0. After intervention, physical activity was increased to 3466.2 ± 4712.5 MET min/week: 15.3% inactive, 50.4% minimally active, and 34.2% HEPA active. Physical activity was increased in 63.4% of the participants. Factors associated with physical activity increase include cancer stage, diarrhea, and type of exercise intervention. Participants with advanced stage have a 3.3 times higher chance of increasing physical activity. Participants who received "Smart After-Care" have a 64% higher chance of increasing physical activity. CONCLUSION: Before the intervention, participants with advanced stage are less likely to be HEPA active. Exercise intervention was more beneficial for those with advanced stage or physical symptoms. "Smart After-Care" was more effective than education only in increasing physical activity.
