RESUMO

Purpose: With the rapid development of immunotherapy, cancer treatment has entered a new phase. Medical imaging, as a primary diagnostic method, is closely related to cancer immunotherapy. However, until now, there has been no systematic bibliometric analysis of the state of this field. Therefore, the main purpose of this article is to clarify the past research trajectory, summarize current research hotspots, reveal dynamic scientific developments, and explore future research directions. Patients and Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database to identify publications related to immunotherapy specifically for the medical imaging of carcinoma. The search spanned the period from the year 2003 to 2023. Several analytical tools were employed. These included CiteSpace (6.2.4), and the Microsoft Office Excel (2016). Results: By searching the database, a total of 704 English articles published between 2003 and 2023 were obtained. We have observed a rapid increase in the number of publications since 2018. The two most active countries are the United States (n=265) and China (n=170). Pittock, Sean J and Abu-sbeih, Hamzah are very concerned about the relationship between cancer immunotherapy and medical images and have published more academic papers (n = 5; n = 4). Among the top 10 co-cited authors, Topalian Sl (n=43) cited ranked first, followed by Graus F (n=40) cited. According to clustering, timeline, and burst word analysis, the results show that the current research focus is on "MRI", "deep learning", "tumor microenvironment" and so on. Conclusion: Medical imaging and cancer immunotherapy are hot topics. The United States is the country with the most publications and the greatest influence in this field, followed by China. "MRI", "PET/PET-CT", "deep learning", "immune-related adverse events" and "tumor microenvironment" are currently hot research topics and potential targets.

Background: Inflammation contributes to the initiation and advancement of both coronary atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Recent evidence has underscored the platelet-to-HDL-cholesterol ratio (PHR) as a promising inflammatory biomarker closely linked to the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Nevertheless, the risk of adverse clinical outcomes remains unclear among CAD patients with varying PHR levels and glycemic status. Methods: A total of 56,316 CAD patients were enrolled, primarily focusing on mortality outcomes. Patients were categorized into four subgroups based on median baseline PHR values and glycemic status: lower PHR (PHR-L) and higher PHR (PHR-H) with or without T2DM. Cox proportional hazard model and subgroup analysis were employed to investigate the association between PHR and glycemic status with mortality. Results: Over a median 5.32-year follow-up, 8909 (15.8%) patients experienced all-cause mortality, with 3873 (6.9%) deaths attributed to cardiovascular causes. Compared to individuals in PHR-L/non-DM, those in PHR-H/non-DM, PHR-L/DM and PHR-H/DM groups exhibited a higher risk of all-cause death [adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 1.12, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.06-1.18; HR 1.21, 95% CI 1.14-1.29; HR 1.43, 95% CI 1.34-1.52, respectively], as well as cardiac mortality [HR 1.19, 95% CI 1.08-1.30; HR 1.58, 95% CI 1.44-1.74; HR 1.89, 95% CI 1.72-2.07, respectively]. Cox proportional hazard model also revealed the highest mortality risk among patients in PHR-H/DM compared to other groups (P <0.05). Restricted cubic spline regression analysis revealed a positive linear association between PHR and all-cause as well as cardiac mortality (P for non-linearity >0.05) after adjustment. Additionally, subgroup analysis indicated consistent effects on cardiac mortality within diverse subsets. Conclusion: In this real-world observational cohort analysis, elevated PHR levels joint with T2DM were related to adverse long-term clinical outcomes in CAD patients. PHR levels may serve as a valuable tool for identifying high-risk individuals within this specific group. Trial Registration: The Cardiorenal ImprovemeNt II registry NCT05050877.

BACKGROUND: Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is an important complication in the perioperative period of coronary angiography (CAG). Dysglycemia is closely associated with the occurrence of CA-AKI. However, the association between stress hyperglycemia and CA-AKI in patients undergoing CAG remains unclear. The study aims to investigate the association of the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and CA-AKI under CAG in a large real-world cohort. METHODS: This was a retrospective observational study, and patients undergoing CAG were enrolled. SHR is calculated by dividing the random blood glucose with the estimated average glucose derived from the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and subjects were divided into five groups according to SHR. The outcome was CA-AKI defined as an increase in serum creatinine of ≥ 0.3 mg/dL (26.5 µmol/L) or 1.5-fold higher than normal levels in 48 h. The association was assessed with logistic regression and restricted cubic spline analysis. RESULTS: In 19,965 participants (men: 73.3%, mean age: 63.1 ± 10.8 years) undergoing CAG, a total of 1,621 CA-AKI cases occurred. There were reverse J-shaped associations between the SHR and CA-AKI after adjustment for other confounding factors. Moreover, SHR improved the predictive effectiveness of the traditional Mehran score (AUC 0.65 vs 0.63, P < 0.001), a predictive model of CA-AKI in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. CONCLUSIONS: There were reverse J-shaped associations of SHR with CA-AKI risk among patients undergoing CAG, and the assessment of SHR before CAG may assist clinicians in identifying patients at higher risk of CA-AKI.

BACKGROUND: The role of the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) has recently attracted considerable attention in cancer research; nonetheless, the insights provided by current investigations remain constrained. Our main objective was to investigate its role and the latent mechanisms within the pan-cancer realm. METHODS: We used comprehensive pan-cancer bulk sequencing data and online network tools to investigate the association between MIF expression and patient prognosis, genomic instability, cancer cell stemness, DNA damage repair, and immune infiltration. Furthermore, we validated the relationship between MIF expression and M0 macrophages using single-cell datasets, the SpatialDB database, and fluorescence staining. Additionally, we assessed the therapeutic response using the ROC plotter tool. RESULTS: We observed the upregulation of MIF expression across numerous cancer types. Notably, elevated MIF levels were associated with a decline in genomic stability. We found a significant correlation between increased MIF expression and increased expression of mismatch repair genes, stemness features, and homologous recombination genes across diverse malignancies. Subsequently, through an analysis using ESTIMATE and cytokine results, we revealed the involvement of MIF in immune suppression. Then, we validated MIF as a hallmark of the M0 macrophages involved in tumor immunity. Our study suggests an association with other immune-inhibitory cellular populations and restraint of CD8 + T cells. In addition, we conducted a comparative analysis of MIF expression before and after treatment in three distinct sets of therapy responders and non-responders. Intriguingly, we identified notable disparities in MIF expression patterns in bladder urothelial carcinoma and ovarian cancer following particular therapeutic interventions. CONCLUSION: Comprehensive pan-cancer analysis revealed notable enrichment of MIF within M0 macrophages, exerting a profound influence on tumor-associated immunosuppression and the intricate machinery of DNA repair.

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which widely presents in marine environment, may produce some adverse effects to aquatic organism. Mytilus edulis are popular due to their high protein and low fat content in China. However, few studies have investigated the effects of PFOA on the quality of aquatic products. Here, PFOA effects on basic nutritional indices in M. edulis were measured, and possible mechanisms were explored. PFOA caused clear variation in physiological and biochemical indices of M. edulis. The contents of some important proteins, nutrients, and amino acids etc. dropped. Integrating metabolomics data, we speculate PFOA exposure triggered inflammation and oxidative stress in mussels, interfered with the metabolic pathways related to the quality and the transport and absorption pathways of metal ions, and affected the levels of some important elements and metabolites, thus decreasing the nutritional quality of M. edulis. The study provides new insights into PFOA adverse effects to marine organism, and may offer some references for some researchers to assess food quality and ecological risk to pollutants.

OBJECTIVES: The translocation of intestinal flora has been linked to the colonization of diverse and heavy lower respiratory flora in patients with septic ARDS, and is considered a critical prognostic factor for patients. METHODS: On the first and third days of ICU admission, BALF, throat swab, and anal swab were collected, resulting in a total of 288 samples. These samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA analysis and the traceability analysis of new generation technology. RESULTS: On the first day, among the top five microbiota species in abundance, four species were found to be identical in BALF and throat samples. Similarly, on the third day, three microbiota species were found to be identical in abundance in both BALF and throat samples. On the first day, 85.16% of microorganisms originated from the throat, 5.79% from the intestines, and 9.05% were unknown. On the third day, 83.52% of microorganisms came from the throat, 4.67% from the intestines, and 11.81% were unknown. Additionally, when regrouping the 46 patients, the results revealed a significant predominance of throat microorganisms in BALF on both the first and third day. Furthermore, as the disease progressed, the proportion of intestinal flora in BALF increased in patients with enterogenic ARDS. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with septic ARDS, the main source of lung microbiota is primarily from the throat. Furthermore, the dynamic trend of the microbiota on the first and third day is essentially consistent.It is important to note that the origin of the intestinal flora does not exclude the possibility of its origin from the throat.

Luster is one of the vital indexes in pearl grading. To find a fast, nondestructive, and low-cost grading method, optical coherence tomography (OCT) is introduced to predict the luster grade through the texture features. After background removal, flattening, and segmentation, the speckle pattern of the region of interest is described by seven kinds of feature textures, including center-symmetric auto-correlation (CSAC), fractal dimension (FD), Gabor, gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM), histogram of oriented gradients (HOG), laws texture energy (LAWS), and local binary patterns (LBP). To find the relations between speckle-derived texture features and luster grades, four Four groups of pearl samples were used in the experiment to detect texture differences based on support vector machines (SVMs) and random forest classifier (RFC)) for investigating the relations between speckle-derived texture features and luster grades. The precision, recall, F1-score, and accuracy are more significant than 0.9 in several simulations, even after dimension reduction. This demonstrates that the texture feature from OCT images can be applied to class the pearl luster based on speckle changes.

Bacterial ClpB is an ATP-dependent disaggregate that belongs to the Hsp100/Clp family and facilitates bacterial survival under hostile environmental conditions. Streptococcus agalactiae, which is regarded as the major bacterial pathogen of farmed Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), is known to cause high mortality and large economic losses. Here, we report a ClpB homologue of S. agalactiae and explore its functionality. S. agalactiae with a clpB deletion mutant (∆clpB) exhibited defective tolerance against heat and acidic stress, without affecting growth or morphology under optimal conditions. Moreover, the ΔclpB mutant exhibited reduced intracellular survival in RAW264.7 cells, diminished adherence to the brain cells of tilapia, increased sensitivity to leukocytes from the head kidney of tilapia and whole blood killing, and reduced mortality and bacterial loads in a tilapia infection assay. Furthermore, the reduced virulence of the ∆clpB mutant was investigated by transcriptome analysis, which revealed that deletion of clpB altered the expression levels of multiple genes that contribute to the stress response as well as certain metabolic pathways. Collectively, our findings demonstrated that ClpB, a molecular chaperone, plays critical roles in heat and acid stress resistance and virulence in S. agalactiae. This finding provides an enhanced understanding of the functionality of this ClpB homologue in gram-positive bacteria and the survival strategy of S. agalactiae against immune clearance during infection.

High-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection is associated with cervical cancer; imbalanced vaginal microecology may contribute to HPV progression. Currently used methods for clinical vaginal-microecology (CVM) testing are associated with several disadvantages, such as low accuracy and complicated operation. This retrospective study presents a novel testing method to examine vaginal microecology via double-fluorescence staining and explores the relationship between hrHPV and CVM. We analyzed 1242 patients who underwent hrHPV testing at our hospital over a two-month period; of these, 695 also underwent clinical vaginal-microecology testing (CVMT). Patients underwent routine leukorrhea detection (n=322), functional testing (n=277), and our novel double-fluorescence staining-based CVMT approach (n=376). Patients with hrHPV exhibited more epithelial cells, miscellaneous bacteria, and hyphae than those without hrHPV on double-fluorescence staining-based CVMT approach. Double-fluorescence staining was effective in identifying indicators of hrHPV infection and may serve as an auxiliary tool for clinical hrHPV screening.

Cartilage repair remains a major challenge in clinical trials. These current cartilage repair materials can not effectively promote chondrocyte generation, limiting their practical application in cartilage repair. In this work, we develop an implantable scaffold of RADA-16 peptide hydrogel incorporated with TGF-ß1 to provide a microenvironment for stem cell-directed differentiation and chondrocyte adhesion growth. The longest release of growth factor TGF-ß1 release can reach up to 600 h under physiological conditions. TGF-ß1/RADA-16 hydrogel was demonstrated to be a lamellar porous structure. Based on the cell culture with hBMSCs, TGF-ß1/RADA-16 hydrogel showed excellent ability to promote cell proliferation, directed differentiation into chondrocytes, and functional protein secretion. Within 14 days, 80% of hBMSCs were observed to be directed to differentiate into vigorous chondrocytes in the co-culture of TGF-ß1/RADA-16 hydrogels with hBMSCs. Specifically, these newly generated chondrocytes can secrete and accumulate large amounts of collagen II within 28 days, which can effectively promote the formation of cartilage tissue. Finally, the exploration of RADA-16 hydrogel-based scaffolds incorporated with TGF-ß1 bioactive species would further greatly promote the practical clinical trials of cartilage remediation, which might have excellent potential to promote cartilage regeneration in areas of cartilage damage.

Chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonate, commercially known as F-53B, has been associated with adverse birth outcomes. However, the reproductive toxicology of F-53B on the placenta remains poorly understood. To address this gap, we examined the impact of F-53B on placental injury and its underlying molecular mechanisms in vivo. Pregnant C57BL/6 J female mice were randomly allocated to three groups: the control group, F-53B 0.8 µg/kg/day group, and F-53B 8 µg/kg/day group. After F-53B exposure through free drinking water from gestational day (GD) 0.5-14.5, the F-53B 8 µg/kg/day group exhibited significant increases in placental weights and distinctive histopathological alterations, including inflammatory cell infiltration, heightened syncytiotrophoblast knots, and a loosened trophoblastic basement membrane. Within the F-53B 8 µg/kg/day group, placental tissue exhibited increased apoptosis, as indicated by increased caspase3 activation. Furthermore, F-53B potentially induced the NF-κB signaling pathway activation through IκB-α phosphorylation. Subsequently, this activation upregulated the expression of inflammatory cytokines and components of the NLRP3 inflammasome, including activated caspase1, IL-1ß, IL-18, and cleaved gasdermin D (GSDMD), ultimately leading to pyroptosis in the mouse placenta. Our findings reveal a pronounced inflammatory injury in the placenta due to F-53B exposure, suggesting potential reproductive toxicity at concentrations relevant to the human population. Further toxicological and epidemiological investigations are warranted to conclusively assess the reproductive health risks posed by F-53B.

Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) represents an appealing therapeutic target for multiple cancers, yet no selective FGFR2 inhibitors have been approved for clinical use to date. Here, we report the discovery of a series of new selective, irreversible FGFR2 inhibitors. The representative compound LHQ490 potently inhibited FGFR2 kinase activity with an IC50 of 5.2 nM, and was >61-, >34-, and >293-fold selective against FGFR1, FGFR3, and FGFR4, respectively. LHQ490 also exhibited high selectivity in a panel of 416 kinases. Cell-based studies revealed that LHQ490 efficiently suppressed the proliferation of BaF3-FGFR2 cells with an IC50 value of 1.4 nM, and displayed >70- and >714-fold selectivity against BaF3-FGFR1 and the parental BaF3 cells, respectively. More importantly, LHQ490 potently suppressed the FGFR2 signaling pathways, selectively inhibited FGFR2-driven cancer cell proliferation, and induced apoptosis of FGFR2-driven cancer cells. Taken together, this study provides a potent and highly selective FGFR2 inhibitor for further development of FGFR2-targeted therapeutic agents.

Birefringence is an important linear optical property of anisotropic crystals that plays a significant role in regulating light polarization. A new bialkali-rare earth metal sulfate, NaRbY2(SO4)4 compound, consisting of non-π-conjugated alkali metals and rare earth metal-centered dodecahedral YO8 has been synthesized. The structure analysis suggests that the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the compound is found to be attributable to the combination of dodecahedral YO8 and tetrahedral SO4 groups with Na+ and Rb+ located in the cavities. The ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) spectra reveal that the compound exhibits transparency at a wavelength of less than 200 nm. The observed birefringence of the compound is 0.045@550 nm, which is comparatively larger than that of most deep-ultraviolet (DUV) birefringent crystals. The birefringence mainly originated from the YO8 dodecahedron, which is suggested by first-principles calculations. This research work can provide a useful perspective to explore new DUV sulfates with excellent birefringence.

Epidemiological evidence showed that serum high perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) levels are associated with multiple eye related diseases, but the potential underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Zebrafish and photoreceptor cell (661w) models were used to investigate the molecular mechanism of PFOS induced eye development defects. Our results showed a novel molecular mechanism of PFOS-induced inflammation response-mediated photoreceptor cell death associated with eye development defects. Inhibition of Caspase-8 activation significantly decreased photoreceptor cell death in PFOS exposure. Mechanistically, Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) mediates activation of Caspase-8 promote activation of NLR family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome to elicit maturation of interleukin-1 beta (IL-1ß) via Caspase-1 activation, facilitating photoreceptor cell inflammation damage in PFOS exposure. In addition, we also made a novel finding that Caspase-3 activation was increased via Caspase-8 activation and directly intensified cell death. Our results show the important role of Caspase-8 activation in PFOS induced eye development defects and highlight Caspase-8 mediated activation of the NLRP3 inflammation triggers activation of Caspase-1 and promote the maturation of IL-1ß in retinal inflammatory injury.

To analyze the results of proficiency testing for anti-tuberculosis drug susceptibility testing (DST) in China. Number of laboratory participating the proficiency testing performed DST, and the sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, and accordance rate were calculated from data of 13 rounds proficiency testing results for DST from 2008 to 2021. A total of 30 and 20 strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with known susceptibility results were sent to each laboratory in 2008 to 2019, 2020 and 2021, respectively. The number of participating laboratories ranged from 30 in 2009 to 546 in 2021. L-J DST was the predominant method. The specificity presented relatively higher than sensitivity. Improvement of specificity were observed for all drugs through the years, while sensitivity did not show improvement for amikacin and capreomycin. Accordance rate of pyrazinamide and kanamycin and reproducibility of capreomycin and pyrazinamide were not significantly improved through the years. Most of the participating laboratories significantly improved the quality of their DST through the consecutive rounds of proficiency testing except for second-line injectable drugs and pyrazinamide. The results highlight the importance of developing novel and/or improving existing methods for phenotypic DST for certain drugs.

Herein, a comprehensive review of recent progress in MXenes for self-powered wearable devices is discussed from the aspects of multi-interface engineering. The fundamental properties of MXenes including electronic, mechanical, optical, and thermal characteristics are discussed in detail. Different from previous review works on MXenes, multi-interface engineering of MXenes from termination regulation to surface modification and their impact on the performance of materials and energy storage/conversion devices are summarized. Based on the interfacial manipulation strategies, potential applications of MXene-based self-powered wearable devices are outlined. Finally, proposals and perspectives are provided on the current challenges and future directions in MXene-based self-powered wearable devices.

Euwallacea interjectus, a recently discovered pest in poplar plantations, poses a significant economic threat due to its role in causing widespread tree mortality. This pest's cryptic behaviour has hindered research and control efforts, making laboratory rearing a valuable tool for studying its development and biology. We investigated the development period and biological characteristics of E. interjectus using artificial diets and fungal medium. Our findings revealed that the development time for eggs, larvae, and pupae averages approximately 6, 18, and 6 days, respectively. Notably, first and second instar larvae displayed peak moulting periods at 3.45 ± 0.64 SD and 7.92 ± 1.77 SD days, respectively. Furthermore, we measured head capsule widths of postmolt larvae, yielding values of 318.02 ± 7.38 SD µm for first-instar larvae, 403.01 ± 11.08 SD µm for second-instar larvae, and 549.54 ± 20.74 SD µm for third-instar larvae. Our research also uncovered a positive correlation between the number of progeny (eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults) and the mean length of the gallery system. Interestingly, the haplodiploid reproductive strategy did not significantly affect the number of offspring produced by the foundress. Additionally, we observed that foundresses displayed higher fecundity when subjected to nutrient-rich diets as compared to nutrient-poor diets. Our results will deepen our understanding of the biology of E. interjectus and provide criteria for larval instar classification. Additionally, managing nutrient availability within the colony could be considered a viable approach to regulating population size.

In the past years, an increasing number of experimental techniques have emerged to address the need to unveil the chemical, structural, and electronic properties of perovskite thin films with high vertical and lateral spatial resolutions. One of these is angle-resolved photoemission electron spectroscopy which can provide direct access to the electronic band structure of perovskites, with the aim of overcoming elusive and controversial information due to the complex data interpretation of purely optical spectroscopic techniques. This perspective looks at the information that can be gleaned from the direct measurement of the electronic band structure of single crystal perovskites and the challenges that remain to be overcame to extend this technique to heterogeneous polycrystalline metal halide perovskites.

The tumor-associated mucin MUC1 is overexpressed in almost all types of epithelial tumor tissues, making it an attractive target antigen for cancer immunotherapy. Here we present a protocol to prepare MUC1 glycopeptide vaccines and to evaluate immunization effects in mice. We describe steps for synthesizing glycopeptide antigen and conjugating it with carrier protein to make vaccine candidates. We then detail procedures for mice immunization, antibody response evaluation, and cellular immune response. BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia is a complex neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by positive symptoms, negative symptoms, cognitive deficits, and co-occurring mood symptoms. Network analysis offers a novel approach to investigate the intricate relationships between these symptom dimensions, potentially informing personalized treatment strategies. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from November 2019 to October 2021, involving 1285 inpatients with schizophrenia in Liaoning Province, China. Symptom severity was assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA-14), and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Network analysis was conducted to investigate the network structure, central symptoms, and bridge symptoms. RESULTS: The network analysis uncovered profound interconnectivity between core symptoms and the anxiety-depression community. Central symptoms, such as psychic anxiety, poor rapport, delusions, and attention, were identified as potential therapeutic targets. Bridge symptoms, including insomnia, depressed mood, anxiety-somatic, conceptual disorganization, and stereotyped thinking, emerged as key nodes facilitating interactions between symptom communities. The stability and reliability of the networks were confirmed through bootstrapping procedures. DISCUSSION: The findings highlight the complex interplay between schizophrenia symptoms, emphasizing the importance of targeting affective symptoms and cognitive impairment in treatment. The identification of central and bridge symptoms suggests potential pathways for personalized interventions aimed at disrupting self-reinforcing symptom cycles. The study underscores the need for a transdiagnostic, personalized approach to schizophrenia treatment.
