Background: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects specially cartilage, meniscus, and tendons. Ligaments, muscles, subchondral bone and synovium. This pathology is a common condition limiting the quality of life ofpatients. Imaging modalities have also been used for evaluation the progression of the osteoarthritis, or degenerative processes induced by acute injury. In order to use more accessible imaging modalities for experimentation, this study aimedto compare radiographic, computed tomography, and ultrasound findings in the evaluation of osteoarthritis induced by thecranial cruciate ligament transection model in rabbits.Materials, Methods & Results: Twenty-four male Norfolk rabbits aged approximately 5 months old were used. All rabbits were submitted to cranial cruciate ligament transection of the left stifle and evaluated 45 days after the surgery. Theradiographic findings were subchondral bone sclerosis (33.33%); joint space narrowing (66%); presence of osteophytesat medial femoral condyle (4.16%), lateral femoral condyle (4.16%), medial fabela (20.83%), lateral fabela (8.33%) andsesamoid of the popliteal muscle (4.16%). No osteophytes were seen at medial and lateral tibial condyles. The tomographiccomputed findings were joint space narrowing (62.5%); presence of osteophytes at medial femoral condyle (75%), lateralfemoral condyle (54.16%), medial fabela (66.66%), lateral fabela (37.5%), medial tibial condyle (75%), lateral tibialcondyle (20.83%) and sesamoid of the popliteal muscle (37.5%). The ultrasound findings were synovial hypertrophy(95.83%); effusion in the suprapatellar recess (75%), distal tibial recess (16.66%) and cranial joint space (75%); changes(hyperechogenic foci and heterogeneity) of the lateral meniscus (50%) and medial meniscus (25%); increased thickness ofthe medial condyle (54.16%) and lateral condyle (45.83%); irregularity of the medial condyle (66.66%) and lateral condyle...

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of the intra-articular application of hyaluronic acid associated with triamcinolone acetonide, and ozone gas in the treatment of induced osteoarthritis in rabbit’s stifles. Methods: Twenty-one Norfolk rabbits were submitted to cranial cruciate ligament transection of the left stifle. After six weeks of the surgery, the rabbits were randomized assigned into three groups: G1 (control) – saline solution (0.9%); G2 – hyaluronic acid associated with triamcinolone; G3 – ozone gas, submitted to three intra-articular applications every seven days. Results: Significant differences occurred: osteophytes at medial femoral condyle (G2 > G1, G2 > G3) on radiography exam; thickening of the medial condyle (G1 > G3, G2 > G3) on ultrasound exam; osteophytes at lateral tibial condyle (G2 > G1, G2 > G3), and medial femoral condyle (G1 > G2, G3 > G1) on computed tomography. Histologically, mean values of chondrocytes in the femur and tibia in G3 and G2 were statistically lower. Conclusions: The intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid associated with triamcinolone accentuated degenerative joint disease by imaging and macroscopic evaluations, and by histological findings, this treatment and the ozone gas treatment showed similar effects and were inferior to the saline solution (0.9%).

Background: Splenic hematoma is an encapsulated blood accumulation, which is macroscopically indistinguishable from malignant spleen. The treatment of choice and final diagnosis were by splenectomy and exploratory laparotomy followed by biopsy and histopathological examination, respectively. Nylon tie bands are devices made of polyamide 6.6, same material of surgical nylon wires, and has been used in different surgical procedures in animals. The present report case aimed to describe the use of nylon tie bands polyamide 6.6 in a 2.3-year-old Golden retriever dog diagnosed with splenic hematoma and lymphoid hyperplasia; and the clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, histological diagnosis of splenic hematoma and lymphoid hyperplasia. Case: A 2.3-year-old intact male Golden retriever dog was presented with history of anorexia, apathy, regurgitation and weight loss. During the physical examination was identified a mass in the left side of abdomen. The complete blood count (CBC), serum biochemistry, urinalysis, and thoracic radiographs were no alteration. Abdominal ultrasound revealed splenomegaly and heterogeneous hypoechoic structure. Splenectomy using an adjustable nylon ties polyamide 6.6 for hemostasis technique was performed during an exploratory laparotomy. The spleen presented hematoma and lymphoid hyperplasia at the histopathological examination, as well as the presence of siderocalcinotic plate in the trabecular spleen. The dog presented with no regurgitation, apathy or anorexia after 10 days of surgery. CBC, serum biochemistry analysis, thoracic radiographs and abdominal ultrasound revealed no abnormalities. Video laparoscopy did not showed any sign of adherence on the local where used the nylon tie bands. One year and three months after the surgery, the owner was contacted by telephone, since he had changed to other city, and he reported that the dog was healthy without any clinical signs...

This study aimed to describe a digestive lymphoma in a female cat with twelve years old, cross breed and negative for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). During physical examination was observed a moderate dehydration and abdominal pain. During transabdominal ultrasound was observed a spleen size increase with anecogenic areas with moderate vascularization, suggestive for tumor. Histopathologic examination of tumor was spleen lymphoma - lymphoblastic lymphoma. Immunohistochemical examination classification was B lymphocytes cells tumor. Chemotherapy with vincristine sulphate and prednisone, followed by total splenectomy was performed. Animal demonstrated improvements after treatment and three months after was diagnosed a liver lymphoma and the owner asks for euthanasia. The present case report shows tnecessity of chemotherapy to control this type of tumor, to increase the quality and patient survival. Digestive lymphoma with high rate of mitosis can be observed in cat with over 10 years old without being associated with infection by FIV or FeLV.

The thyroid adenomas are not common in dogs, and the majority of cases are identified at necropsy as an accidental finding. These neoplasias affect dogs with age between 11 and 13 years old. The aim of this work was to report the surgical treatment, with no association to any adjuvant treatment, of non functional thyroid papillary cist adenoma with 8 cm in length and 6 cm in width, in a dog, Labrador breed, with four years old, attended at the Veterinary Hospital School, Mozambique. The complementary exams as image (X-ray and ultrasound), complete blood count, serum biochemistry, hormonal dosage and fine-needle aspiration (FNA), were not conclusive for the diagnosis. However, the histopathology exam was crucial for the definitive diagnosis, and the treatment by complete surgical resection, without association with chemotherapy, was effective in this case.

The canine demodicosis is a primary dermatosis caused by Demodex canis, resulting from an immunosuppressionmediated. Many drugs have been used in treatment of canine demodicosis (CA), showing varied efficiency levels and occurrence of side effects and recurrence. Due the lack of studies instandardization of ivermectin in the treatment of CA, there is a limitation about recommendation of definitive protocols treatment. The study aimed to to report the treatment with ivermectin in a localized canine demodicosis in a female spayed dog, Husky Siberian, with eleven months, attending inSchool Hospital, Veterinary Faculty, Mozambique. The complaint was loss of appetite, weight loss, fever, localized alopecia, and hemorrhagic vesicle in the head, thoracic and pelvic limbs, with duration of 45 days. The blood count exam, biochemistry exam, urinalysis was perfomed and the diagnosis wasby deep scraping exam. The use of injectable ivermectin, 300 μg/kg, every 24 hours, orally, during 115 days, was effective in the treatment of localized canine demodicosis and was not observed recurrence after a year and six months.
