Resumo

Na canola ocorrem perdas de produtividade e da qualidade de grãos em função da interferência causada pelo azevém (Lolium multiflorum). Diante disso, objetivou-se avaliar a interferência e identificar variáveis explicativas visando determinar o nível de dano econômico (NDE) de diferentes densidades do azevém infestante de híbridos de canola. O experimento foi instalado em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com uma repetição. Os tratamentos foram compostos pelos híbridos de canola (Hyola 433, Hyola 61, Alht B4, Hyola 575 CL e Hyola 76) e 12 densidades de azevém, de 0 até 260 plantas m-2, em competição com a cultura. Avaliou-se aos 50 dias após a emergência das plantas as variáveis densidades de plantas, área foliar, cobertura de solo e massa seca da parte aérea do azevém. A produtividade de grãos, custo de controle, preço de grãos e eficiência de controle foram determinados na canola. A cobertura do solo apresentou melhor ajuste ao modelo da hipérbole retangular estimando adequadamente as perdas de produtividades de grãos pela interferência do azevém. Os híbridos de canola Hyola 433, Hyola 575 CL e Hyola 76 foram os mais competitivos ao se comparar com os demais na presença do azevém, porém demonstraram as menores produtividades de grãos e também os que apresentaram os maiores valores de NDE. Os híbridos de canola Hyola 433 e Hyola 575 CL apresentaram os maiores valores de NDE com 3,85 a 5,13 plantas m-2 em todas as simulações realizadas, respectivamente. Os menores valores de NDE foram obtidos com os híbridos Hyola 61, Alht B4 e Hyola 76 com variações médias de 1,02 à 2,15 plantas m-2, respectivamente. A produtividade de grãos de canola, o preço da saca, a eficiência do herbicida e a redução no custo de controle, causam variação dos valores do NDE.(AU)


In canola, yield and grain quality losses occur due to the interference caused by ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) when infesting the crop. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the interference and identify explanatory variables seeking to determine the level of economic damage (NDE) of different densities of ryegrass infesting canola hybrids. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, with one replication. The treatments consisted of five canola hybrids (Hyola 433, Hyola 61, Alht B4, Hyola 575 CL and Hyola 76) and 12 ryegrass densities, from 0 to 260 plants m-2, in competition with the crop. At 50 days after plant emergence, the variables as plant densities, leaf area, soil cover and shoot dry matter of ryegrass plants were evaluated. Grain yield, control cost, grain price and control efficiency were determined in canola plants. The soil cover presented the best fit to the rectangular hyperbola model, adequately estimating the grain yield losses due to ryegrass interference. The canola hybrids Hyola 433 and Hyola 575 CL were the most competitive when compared to the others in the presence of the competitor, with higher values of EDL. The canola hybrids Hyola 433 and Hyola 575 CL showed the highest EDL values with 3.85 to 5.13 plants m-2in all simulations performed, respectively. The lowest EDL values were obtained with hybrids Hyola 61, Alht B4and Hyola 76 with average variations of 1.02 to 2.15 plants m-2, respectively. The canola grain yield, grain bag price, efficiency of the herbicide, and the reduction in the control cost cause variation in the economic damage level values.(AU)

O uso de herbicidas para o controle de plantas daninhas é ométodo mais empregado pela eficácia, rapidez e menor custo, porém poucos são os produtos registrados à cultura da canola. Diante disso, objetivou-se com os trabalhos avaliar a seletividade (ensaio I) e a eficácia (ensaio II) de herbicidas aplicados de modo isolado ou associados em pré e pós-emergência da canola para o controle de plantas daninhas. Os experimentos foram instalados em delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Em pré-emergência aplicou-se os herbicidas oxyfluorfen, pendimethalin, flumiozaxin, trifluralin e em pós-emergência o fluazifop-p-butil, mais as testemunhas capinada e infestada. Foram avaliadas a fitotoxicidade e as características fisiológicas no ensaio de seletividade, e o controle das plantas daninhas nabo, azevém eaveia preta no experimento de eficácia. Nos dois experimentos determinou-se os números de síliquas por planta, de grãos por síliqua, densidade de plantas, massa de mil grãos e a produtividade de grãos. O oxyfluorfen aplicado em isolado ou associado ao fluazifop-p-butil ocasionouas maiores fitotoxicidades ao híbrido de canola Diamond. As menores fitotoxicidades foram observadas para o pendimethalin e ao fluazifop-p-butil aplicados em isolado ou associados. Todos os herbicidas testados causaram estresse na concentração interna de CO2, transpiração, condutância estomática, atividade fotossintética, eficiência do uso da água e de carboxilação. O flumioxazin e o fluazifop-p-butil aplicados em pré e pós-emergência da canola apresentaram os melhores resultados para os componentes de rendimento de grãos da cultura, especialmente maior produtividade, juntamente com a testemunha capinada no ensaio de seletividade. Nenhum dos tratamentos com herbicidas controlaram adequadamente o nabo (experimento 2), e a presença desta planta daninha afetounegativamente os componentes de rendimento de grãos da canola. O fluazifop-p-butil aplicado em isolado ou associado ao oxifluorfen, pendimethalin, flumioxazin e trifluralin apresentaram os melhores controles de azevém e aveia preta.(AU)


The use of herbicides for weed control is the most used method due to its effectiveness, speed, and lower cost, but few products are registered for canola crops. In this way, the objective of this work was to evaluate the selectivity (experiment 1) and efficiency(experiment 2) of herbicides applied alone or in association in pre-and post-emergence of canola for weed control. The experiments were carried out in randomized blocks design, with four replications. In pre-emergence, the herbicides oxyfluorfen, pendimethalin, flumiozaxin, and trifluralin were applied, and in post-emergence, fluazifop-p-butyl, plus weeded and infested controls. Phytotoxicity and physiological characteristics were evaluated in the selectivity experiment, and the control of turnip, ryegrass, and black oat weeds were evaluated in the efficacy experiment. In both experiments, the number of siliques per plant, grains per silique, plant density, thousand-grain weight, and grain yield were determined. Oxyfluorfen applied alone or associated with fluazifop-p-butyl caused the highest phytotoxicity to the Diamond canola hybrid. The lowest phytotoxicities were observed for pendimethalin and fluazifop-p-butyl applied alone or in an association. All tested herbicides caused stress on internal CO2concentration, transpiration, stomatal conductance, photosynthetic activity, water use efficiency, and carboxylation efficiency. Flumioxazin and fluazifop-p-butyl applied pre-and post-emergence of canola showed the best results for the crop yield components, especially higher productivity, also with the weeded control in the selectivity experiment. None of the herbicide treatments controlled turnip properly (experiment 2), and the presence of this weed negatively affected canola yield components. Fluazifop-p-butyl applied alone or in association with oxyfluorfen, pendimethalin, flumioxazin, and trifluralin showed the best controls of ryegrass and black oat.(AU)

This study aimed to evaluate the morphogenic and structural characteristics and the population stability index of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) tillers when the pasture was submitted to two stocking methods during grazing cycles. The experimental design was a complete randomized block, with repeated measurements over time (n=6 cycles), two treatments (stocking methods) and three area replicates. In the continuous stocking method, the highest population density of tillers was observed. The highest tiller weight occurred in the rotational stocking method. The morphogenic variables and the other structural variables were not altered by the stocking methods and showed differences during the grazing cycles. The tiller population stability index was similar in the two pasture management strategies, and both can be used for ryegrass management considering this parameter.


Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as características morfogênicas, estruturais e o índice de estabilidade populacional de perfilhos do azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) quando a pastagem foi submetida a dois métodos de lotação, durante ciclos de pastejo. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos completos casualizados, com medidas repetidas ao longo do tempo (n = 6 ciclos), dois tratamentos (métodos de lotação) e três repetições de área. No método de lotação contínua, foi observada a maior densidade populacional de perfilhos. O maior peso de perfilhos ocorreu no método de lotação rotativa. As variáveis morfogênicas e as demais variáveis estruturais não foram alteradas pelos métodos de lotação e apresentaram diferenças durante os ciclos de pastejo. O índice de estabilidade populacional de perfilhos foi semelhante nas duas estratégias de manejo do pasto e ambas podem ser utilizadas para o manejo do azevém considerando-se esse parâmetro.

Resumo

The objective of this work was to analyze the effect of the addition of condensed tannins (CT) in the efficiency of digestion, methanogenic potential and energy distribution between the fermentation products of two forages. An assay was carried out using the in vitrogas production technique in which extracts of Quebracho (Schinopsis balansae) and Lotus corniculatuswere evaluated with fermentation patterns of derived products from Ryegrass (RG, Lolium perenne) and a tropical forage, Megathyrsus maximus(MM). Tannins were added to the substrate at a concentration of 30 mg g-1. MM presented higher and delayed gas production (GP), and in vitrodry matter, organic matter and fiber digestibilities (ivDMD, ivOMDand NDFD, respectively) were relatively high but lower than RG. In addition, MM presented higher CH4production (CH4p) than RG in 24 and 48h. Even though CT of Quebracho induced a decrease in the NDFD, contrary to what was expected, CH4p was greater, although this effect could not be attributed to the presence of CT. The stoichiometric evaluation indicated that while the highest CH4p in Quebracho treatments were associated with acetogenic profiles, CH4p with Lotus did not show any relationship with the volatile fatty acids (VFA) profile, but it did show a relationship with the highest total VFA production and the highest GP.(AU)

This study determined the effect of different defoliation frequencies in a long-cycle ryegrass cultivar on yield components and the physiological and sanitary quality of seeds. Four defoliation frequencies were applied (without, one, two, and three defoliations). The time between defoliations was 350 degree-days. At the first, second, and third defoliation time, the plants were 15 cm, 20 cm, and 35 cm, respectively, and were lowered to half their height. The yield components and plant structure were evaluated through the tillers, along with the physiological quality of the seeds, which was verified by germination tests, first germination count, accelerated aging, tetrazolium test, field emergence, and weight of a thousand seeds. For the sanitary quality analysis, the percentage (%) of fungi incidence in the seeds was verified. The second defoliation determined the seeds' high physiological and sanitary quality due to the higher amount of primary and secondary tillers produced concerning the other treatments. However, there was no significant difference for the third defoliation since the aerial tillers issued the same quality of seeds originated from primary and secondary tillers. The average incidence of fungi such as Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium sp., Phoma sp., and Dreshslera spp. was lower in ryegrass plants subjected to three defoliations.


O presente estudo teve como objetivo determinar o efeito de diferentes frequências de desfolha em uma cultivar de azevém de ciclo longo, sobre os componentes de rendimento e a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária das sementes. Foram aplicadas quatro frequências de desfolhas (sem, uma, duas e três). O tempo entre desfolhas foi de 350 graus-dia. No momento da primeira, segunda e terceira desfolha as plantas estavam com 15 cm, 20 cm e 35 cm, respectivamente e foram rebaixadas para metade de suas alturas. Avaliaram-se os componentes de rendimento e a estrutura das plantas por meio dos perfilhos, juntamente com a qualidade fisiológica das sementes, a qual foi verificada por testes de germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, teste de tetrazólio, emergência a campo e peso de mil sementes. Para a análise da qualidade sanitária verificou-se a porcentagem (%) de incidência de fungos nas sementes. A segunda desfolha determinou alta qualidade fisiológica e sanitária das sementes devido a maior quantidade de perfilhos primários e secundários produzidos em relação aos demais tratamentos. No entanto não houve diferença significativa para a terceira desfolha, visto que nos perfilhos aéreos emitidos observou-se a mesma qualidade das sementes originadas de perfilhos primários e secundários. A incidência média de fungos como Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium sp., Phoma sp. e Dreshsleras pp. foi menor em plantas de azevém submetidas a três desfolhas.

This study aimed to evaluate sweet potato feed as an alternative energy supplement for ovine. A latin-square design was used to assess the effects of feeding the animals 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5% their body weight in sweet potato as well as ryegrass hay (Lolium multiflorum) twice daily, mineral salt and water ad libitum. During this study 8 males were housed in metabolic cages with urine and feces collectors. Each round of experimentation consisted of 14 days adaptation followed by 5 days evaluating the diet, left-overs, feces, and urine to determine intake, digestibility, and nitrogen retention. The results show a linear increase in intake of ryegrass hay, FDN, DM and OM because of the increasing supplementation levels. Similarly, we observed a linear increase in DM and OM intake, as well as in the OM digestibility. Additionally, BP digestibility decreased considering nitrogen excretion. In conclusion, sweet potato feed is a viable alternative for ovine receiving ryegrass hay since it increased DM and OM digestibility, albeit reducing NDF and BP digestibility.


O presente estudo teve como objetivo determinar a viabilidade da inclusão da farinha de batata-doce na ração de ovinos, como estratégia alimentar alternativa ao uso de outras culturas, tradicionalmente utilizadas como suplemento energético. Para isso, foi realizado delineamento em quadrado latino para avaliar os efeitos da suplementação de 0, 0,5, 1 e 1,5% do PV de farinha de batata-doce, para ovinos alimentados duas vezes ao dia com feno de azevém anual (Lolium multiflorum) e com acesso a sal mineral e a água ad libitum. Durante o período de estudo, oito machos da raça foram alojados em gaiolas metabólicas com coletores de urina e fezes. Cada rodada do experimento consistiu em 14 dias de adaptação da dieta e cinco dias de coleta, que incluíram consumo, dieta, sobras, fezes, urina, a fim de determinar consumo, digestibilidade e retenção de N. Como reflexo dos níveis crescentes de suplementação, os resultados demonstraram um padrão linear tanto de redução da ingestão do feno de azevém e da FDN quanto de aumento do consumo total de MS e MO. Da mesma forma, foi observado um padrão linear de aumento na digestibilidade da MS, da MO e na digestibilidade verdadeira da MO, assim como de diminuição na digestibilidade da PB (com base na eliminação de N). Conclui-se que a inclusão de farinha de batata-doce na alimentação de ovinos alimentados com feno de azevém é viável e que aumentou a ingestão e a digestibilidade da MS e da MO, embora tenha reduzido a digestibilidade da FDN e da PB.

The evaluation of the ingestive behavior of ruminant animals is important to identify the animal response to the particularities of the different production systems. However, the five-minute evaluation technique requires personnel, making it difficult to adhere to farms and research in more complex pastoral systems. Thus, this study objected to evaluating the influence of pasture, silvopastoral, and feedlot production systems on the ingestive behavior of lambs and to defining the behavior recording interval in each of the systems. Twenty-four lambs were distributed in an experimental design in split plots. The plots were the production systems (pasture without shading - PS, silvopastoral - SS, and feedlot systems - FS) and the subplots were the behavior observation intervals (5, 10, 15, and 20 min.). In the pasture without shading and silvopastoral systems, the lambs were kept on Aruana grass (Megathyrsus maximus) pasture and supplemented with concentrate at 1.5% of body weight per day, on a dry matter (DM) basis. In the feedlot system, the lambs received a diet consisting of 200 g kg DM-1 of annual ryegrass hay (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and 800 g kg DM-1 of concentrate. There was no interaction (P > 0.05) between the production system and the recording interval of behavioral activities. The time spent on food intake was higher (P < 0.05) in the pasture (533 min d-1) and silvopastoral (513 min d-1) systems than in the feedlot (225 min d-1). In contrast, for water intake, time was higher (P < 0.05) in the feedlot (21 min d-1) and lower in the silvopastoral system (5 min d-1). There was no difference (P > 0.05) between the systems for rumination and idle activities, of which daily averages were 378 and 587 min d-1, respectively. There was also no difference (P > 0.05) between the observation intervals for feed, water, rumination, and idleness activities. Lambs in pasture-based systems spend more time feeding, and feedlot lambs spend more time ingesting water. Feedlot lambs ruminate as much as grazing animals when fed hay, even though hay represents only 20% of the total diet. The recording interval of behavioral activities in these production systems can be up to 20 minutes.(AU)


A avaliação do comportamento ingestivo de animais ruminantes é importante para identificar a resposta animal frente às particularidades dos diferentes sistemas de produção. Entretanto, a técnica de avaliação usualmente utilizada, com intervalos de cinco minutos, requer mão de obra, dificultando sua adesão em propriedades e em pesquisas em sistemas pastoris de maior complexidade. Assim, este estudo foi realizado com os objetivos de avaliar a influência dos sistemas de produção em pastagem, silvipastoril e confinamento sobre o comportamento ingestivo de cordeiros e definir o intervalo de registro do comportamento em cada um dos sistemas. Foram utilizados 24 cordeiros distribuídos em delineamento experimental em parcelas subdivididas, sendo as parcelas os sistemas de produção (pastagem sem sombreamento, sistema silvipastoril e confinamento) e as subparcelas os intervalos de observação do comportamento (5, 10, 15 e 20 min.). Nos sistemas em pastagem sem sombreamento e silvipastoril, os cordeiros permaneceram em pastagem de capim Aruana (Megathyrsus maximus) e foram suplementados com concentrado a 1,5% do peso corporal ao dia em base de matéria seca (MS). No sistema em confinamento, os cordeiros receberam ração composta por 200 g kg MS-1 de feno de azevém anual (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) e 800 g kg MS-1 de concentrado. Não houve interação (P > 0,05) entre sistema de produção e intervalo de registro das atividades comportamentais. O tempo despendido para a ingestão de alimento foi maior (P < 0,05) no sistema de pastagem (533 min d-1) e silvipastoril (513 min d-1) em relação ao confinamento (225 min d-1), enquanto que para ingestão de água foi maior (P < 0,05) no confinamento (21 min d-1) e menor no silvipastoril (5 min d-1). Não houve diferença (P > 0,05) entre os sistemas para as atividades de ruminação e ócio, cujas médias diárias foram de 378 e 587 min d-1, respectivamente. Também não houve diferença (P > 0,05) entre os intervalos de observação para as atividades de ingestão de alimento, água, ruminação e ócio. Cordeiros em sistemas à base de pastagem gastam mais tempo se alimentando, e cordeiros confinados mais tempo ingerindo água. Cordeiros confinados ruminam tanto quanto animais em pastejo quando alimentados com feno, mesmo que este represente apenas 20% da dieta total. O intervalo de registro das atividades comportamentais nestes sistemas de produção pode ser de até 20 minutos.(AU)

Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a troublesome weed widely found in temperate Brazilian fields with several herbicide-resistant populations. Soil seed bank is the main source of future infestations and can be strongly affected by agricultural practices, such as crop rotation and tillage system. Therefore, this study evaluated the long-term effects of different crop rotation and tillage systems on the seed bank of Italian ryegrass. Data were collected in 2012 and 2013 in a field managed since 1985 under conventional-tillage and no-tillage and subjected to three cropping systems (monoculture, total, and partial rotation) compared to the control plot. The samples were collected at three soil depths (0-5, 5-10, and 10-20 cm) using a cylindrical soil sampler, and infestations in the field were evaluated with a sample frame of 1 m². All cropping systems reduced the soil seed bank of Italian ryegrass, regardless of soil management and sampling depths comparing to the control plot. Total and partial rotation were more effective than soil tillage to reduce the seed bank. A larger number of seeds was observed on the surface layer (0-5 cm) for all cropping systems with more uniform distribution in the soil profile in conventional-tillage. Infestation of Italian ryegrass was greater for monoculture under no-tillage in both years, whereas in total and partial rotation, regardless of soil tillage, infestations remained below 40 seedlings m². Thus, strategies to reduce the soil seed bank and infestations of Italian ryegrass should focus on cropping systems with crop rotation and no-tillage.(AU)

Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a weed broadly found in fields cultivated with wheat and barley crops. Seed inputs into the soil before harvesting winter crops increase seed bank, ensuring survival. This study evaluated the persistence of Italian ryegrass seeds subjected to burial depths over time. Experiments were carried out in the field for two years in randomized block experimental design with four repetitions. Dormant seeds harvested from mother-plants were put in nylon bags containing soil. Previously, seed viability was evaluated in a 1 % tetrazolium solution, and 50 viable seeds by repetition were buried at 0.5, 5.0, 10, and 20 cm depths. Seed persistence was evaluated by the percentage of deteriorated and remaining seeds, non-dormant seeds, abnormal seedlings, and viable and non-viable dormant seeds at 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 360, 540, and 720 days after burial (DAB). Seed persistence increased at 10 and 20 cm of burial depth compared to seeds in the soil layers up to 5 cm. Moreover, burial depth at 10 and 20 cm showed lower percentage of deteriorated seeds (10 % lower) compared to 0.5 cm at 360 DAB. For non-dormant seeds, a higher percentage was found at 90 DAB, regardless of seed burial depth. Dormancy breakage occurred until 180 DAB, and more rapidly at 10 and 20 cm depths. At 540 DAB, more than 95 % of seeds were unviable, demonstrating short persistence of Italian ryegrass in the soil seed bank.

The goal of this work was to assess the biomass production and bromatological quality of ryegrass genotypes in ten municipalities of the Western and North Plateau regions of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The cultivars La Estanzuela 284 (diploid), Bar HQ, Barjumbo, INIA Escorpio, Potro, and Winter Star (tetraploids) were compared, distributed in a randomized block design, in which the municipalities constituted the blocks, with three replications. The cuts were performed when the plants reached 30cm, leaving a residue of 10cm. In three cuts, the cultivars Barjumbo and Bar HQ were the most productive, exceeding 4.6 t ha-1 of dry matter. In the places in which five cuts were performed, the production of these cultivars exceeded 7.3 t ha-1, placing them again ahead of the others. The average crude protein content in three cuts was greater than 25% in all cultivars. There was no difference between the genotypes in the content of neutral detergent fiber and total digestible nutrients. There was a significant correlation between quantitative and qualitative productive variables. The assessed cultivars represented good options for composing short-term or long-term winter-feeding systems, adjusted to the integration with annual crops or warm-season pastures.(AU)


O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção de biomassa e qualidade bromatológica de genótipos de azevém, em dez municípios das regiões Oeste e Planalto Norte Catarinense, Estado de Santa Catarina, Brasil. Foram comparados os cultivares La Estanzuela 284 (diploide), Bar HQ, Barjumbo, INIA Escorpio, Potro e Winter Star (tetraploides), distribuídos em um delineamento blocos casualizados, em que os municípios constituíram os blocos, com três repetições. Os cortes foram realizados quando as plantas atingiram 30cm, deixando um resíduo de 10cm. Sob três cortes, os cultivares Barjumbo e Bar HQ foram os mais produtivos, ultrapassando 4,6 t ha-1 de matéria seca. Nos locais em que ocorreram cinco cortes, a produção destes cultivares superou 7,3 t ha-1, posicionando-os novamente à frente dos demais. O teor médio de proteína bruta em três cortes foi superior a 25% em todos os cultivares. Não houve diferença entre os genótipos no teor de fibra detergente neutro e de nutrientes digestíveis totais. Verificou-se correlação significativa entre variáveis produtivas quantitativas e qualitativas. Os cultivares testados representam boas opções para compor sistemas forrageiros hiberno-primaveris de curta ou longa duração, ajustando-se à integração com lavouras ou pastagens anuais de estação quente.(AU)

Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) is a weed broadly found in fields cultivated with wheat and barley crops. Seed inputs into the soil before harvesting winter crops increase seed bank, ensuring survival. This study evaluated the persistence of Italian ryegrass seeds subjected to burial depths over time. Experiments were carried out in the field for two years in randomized block experimental design with four repetitions. Dormant seeds harvested from mother-plants were put in nylon bags containing soil. Previously, seed viability was evaluated in a 1 % tetrazolium solution, and 50 viable seeds by repetition were buried at 0.5, 5.0, 10, and 20 cm depths. Seed persistence was evaluated by the percentage of deteriorated and remaining seeds, non-dormant seeds, abnormal seedlings, and viable and non-viable dormant seeds at 0, 30, 60, 90, 180, 360, 540, and 720 days after burial (DAB). Treatments tested were: iodosulfuron, pyroxsulam, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, clodinafop-propargyl, [bentazon + imazamox], saflufenacil, bentazon, carfentrazone-ethyl, imazamox, pendimethalin, [sulfentrazone + diuron], plus two control treatments, one weeded and the other infested. The greatest damages to wheat were caused by imazamox and the commercial mixture [bentazon + imazamox] with phytotoxicity of approximately 50%. On the other hand, applyingthe commercial mixture [sulfentrazone + diuron] allowed the highest wheat grain yield. The use of clodinafop-propargyl and pyroxsulam promoted the best control of Lolium multiflorum, with 100 and 98.25% at 21 days after treatment application, respectively. The control above 90% of Raphanus raphanistrumwas reported with iodosulfuron, pyroxsulam, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, [bentazon + imazamox], saflufenacil, bentazon, and carfentrazone. Clodinafop-propargyl was the most efficient on ryegrass, and iodosulfuron, pyroxsulam, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, saflufenacil, and carfentrazone performed best on the turnip. Pyroxsulam was the treatment that showed, in both experiments, the best results for all-grain yield components, especially for grain yield.

Assim sendo, objetivou-se com os trabalhos avaliar a seletividadee a eficácia deherbicidas aplicados para o manejo de plantas daninhas infestante da cultivar de trigo TBIO Sinuelo. Foram instalados dois experimentos, um para avaliar a seletividade e outro a eficácia de herbicidas aplicados em trigo, em blocos casualizados, com quatrorepetições. Os tratamentos testados foram: iodosulfuron, pyroxsulam, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, clodinafope-propargil, [bentazon + imazamox], saflufenacil, bentazon, carfentrazone-ethyl, imazamox, pendimethalin, [sulfentrazone + diuron], mais duas testemunhas uma capinada e outra infestada. Ocorreu controle acimade 90% de Raphanus raphanistrumcom uso de iodosulfuron, pyroxsulam, metsulfuron-methyl, 2,4-D, [bentazon + imazamox], saflufenacil, bentazon e carfentrazone. O clodinafope-propargil demonstra o maior controle para o azevém e o iodosulfuron-ethyl, pyroxsulam, metsulfurom-metílico, 2,4-D, saflufenacil e carfentrazone para o nabo. O pyroxsulam foi o tratamento que demonstrou, nos dois experimentos, os melhores resultados para os componentes da produção, especialmente para a produtividade da cultura.

This study aimed to evaluate the antagonistic effect of the mixture ofacetyl coenzyme-A carboxylase (ACCase) enzyme inhibiting herbicides and auxin herbicides in Lolium multiflorum and to determine mechanisms to mitigate this possible effect. The first experiments were conducted by associating the herbicide clethodim (108 g a.i. ha1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (54 g a.i. ha1), and clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (108+54 g a.i. ha1) with 2,4-D (1005 g a.e. ha1) or triclopyr (720 g a.e. ha1), in addition to the sole application of the respective graminicides. Another experiment included clethodim (54; 81; 108; 162; 216 g a.i. ha1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (27; 40.5; 54; 81; 108 g a.i. ha1), and clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (54+27; 81+40.5; 108+54; 162+81; 216+108 g a.i. ha1) mixed with 2,4-D (1005 g a.e. ha1), or triclopyr (720 g a.e. ha1), in addition to the control treatments without herbicide application. In the second experiment, herbicides clethodim (108 g a.i. ha1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (54 g a.i. ha1), and clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (108+54 g a.i. ha1) in combination with the herbicides 2,4-D (1005 g a.e. ha1) or triclopyr (720 g a.e. ha1)had malathion (1000 g a.i. ha1) or glyphosate (720 g a.e. ha1) mixed, in addition to the sole applications of the graminicides. The herbicide clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl did not present an antagonistic interaction with the auxin herbicides, and obtained 85% weed control. To obtain control similar to the sole application of this graminicide, the dose of the herbicide clethodim needs to be increased by 20%. However, the mixture of the herbicide quizalofop-p-ethyl with 2,4-D and triclopyr affects the ryegrass control. The use of strategies that increase the absorption of ACCase herbicides or the inhibition of P450 enzymes are ways to mitigate the antagonistic effect caused by the association of the two auxin herbicides.(AU)


O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito antagônico da mistura de herbicidas inibidores da enzima ACCase e herbicidas auxínicos em Lolium multiflorum e determinar mecanismos de mitigação deste possível efeito. No primeiro momento foram conduzidos experimentos associando o herbicida clethodim (108 g i.a. ha-1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (54 g i.a. ha-1) e clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (108 + 54 g i.a. ha-1) com 2,4-D (1005 g e.a. ha-1) ou triclopyr (720 g e.a. ha-1), além da aplicação isolada dos respectivos graminicidas. No segundo momento os herbicidas clethodim (108 g i.a. ha-1), quizalofop-p-ethyl (54 g i.a. ha-1) e clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl (108 + 54 g i.a. ha-1) em associação com os herbicidas 2,4-D (1005 g e.a ha-1) ou triclopyr (720 g e.a. ha-1), contaram com adição de malathion (1000 g i.a. ha-1) ou glyphosate (720 g e.a. ha-1), além das aplicações isoladas dos graminicidas. O herbicida clethodim + quizalofop-p-ethyl não apresentou interação antagônica com os herbicidas auxínicos, obtendo controle de 85%. Já para o herbicida clethodim é necessário o aumento de dose em 20 % é capaz de obter controle similar a aplicação isolada deste graminicida. Porém para o herbicida quizalofop-p-ethyl a mistura com os herbicidas 2,4-D e triclopyr repercute na diminuição do controle do azevém. O uso de estratégias que aumente a absorção do herbicida inibidor de ACCase ou a inibição das enzimas P450 são formas de mitigar o efeito antagônico causado pela associação destes dois tipos de herbicidas.(AU)

Canine atopic dermatitis is an inflammatory, genetic, pruritic and chronic dermatosis that affects between 10 and 30% of dogs and one of the most important allergens is grass pollen. The objective of this study was to evaluate the sensitization to grass pollen allergens in dogs with canine atopic dermatitis and to compare intradermal skin test (IDT) with percutaneous test (PT). For this study, ten healthy dogs and 39 dogs with atopic dermatitis were tested. Dogs were submitted to IDT and PT for Lolium multiflorum, Cynodon dactylon and Paspalum notatum. The IDT and PT tests were compared using the Proportion Test. All healthy dogs were negative to both tests. Ten atopic dogs (25.6%) responded positively to the PT and none were positive in IDT. C. dactylon, L. multiflorum and P. notatum were responsible for positive reactions in 70%, 70% and 30% of positive dogs, respectively. The number of positive reactions in PT were statistically higher than IDT (P<0.05). In conclusion, grass pollen can be important source of allergens for dogs in Paraná state (Brazil) and the PT showed higher sensitization to grass pollen in dogs with atopic dermatitis than IDT.(AU)


A dermatite atópica canina é uma dermatose inflamatória, genética, prurítica e crônica que afeta entre 10% e 30% dos cães, e um dos alérgenos mais importantes são os polens de gramíneas. O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar a sensibilização a alérgenos de polens de gramíneas em cães com dermatite atópica e comparar o teste intradérmico (TID) com o teste percutâneo (TP). Para o estudo, 10 cães hígidos e 39 cães com dermatite atópica foram testados. Estes foram submetidos ao TID e ao TP para Lolium multiflorum, Cynodon dactylon e Paspalum notatum. TID e TP foram comparados usando-se o teste de proporção. Todos os cães hígidos foram negativos em ambos os testes. Dez cães atópicos (25,6%) responderam positivamente ao TP e nenhum ao TID. C. dactylon, L. multiflorum e P. notatum foram responsáveis por reações positivas de 70%, 70% e 30% dos cães positivos, respectivamente. O número de reações positivas no TP foi estatisticamente maior que no TID (P<0,05). Foi concluído que os polens de gramíneas podem ser importantes fontes de alérgenos para cães no estado do Paraná (Brasil) e que o TP mostrou maior sensibilização a polens em cães com dermatite atópica que o TID.(AU)

The accumulation of industrial by-products increases the use of sweet potato waste for ruminants, but ruminal pH characteristics are still not well known. Four rumen-fistulated sheep were used; they were fed a diet based on ryegrass haylage (Lolium multiflorum) and sweet potato flour (Ipomoea batatas), provided according to the level of inclusion in the total diet (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%). Approximately 80 ml of ruminal fluid was collected for reading on a bench pH meter. Statistical data analysis was run on Statistical Analysis System (SAS Institute INC. Cary, NC, USA), and statistical difference was considered for p < 0.05. The animals that received 1.5% of sweet potato flour in their diet presented acid rumen pH; the 1.0% group presented rumen pH acidification in the first 6 hours after feeding, and the 0.5% level of inclusion did not change the rumen environment. It is concluded that the inclusion of 0.5% sweet potato flour in sheep diet proved to be an efficient energy supplementation strategy.(AU)

This study evaluated the leaf area index (LAI) recovery mechanisms and forage accumulation rates on the regrowth of different grass species subjected to different defoliation intensities. For that purpose, plots of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass), Lolium multiflorum (annual ryegrass), and Avena strigosa (black oats) were defoliated from 20 to 80 % of their initial heights (25, 20, and 25 cm, respectively). At different increments in height, forage samples were collected to ground level and used to estimate tiller population density (TPD), leaf area per tiller (LA), and forage mass. From these data, we calculated the leaf area index (LAI), average leaf area index (aLAI), and average and instantaneous forage accumulation rate (FAR and IFAR, respectively). Data were plotted over time (days) to describe LAI recovery and forage accumulation rates. As the defoliation intensity increased, greater canopy heights were needed for pastures to achieve their maximum forage accumulation rates, which required longer regrowth intervals. The need for high tiller recruitment after defoliation, which delayed canopy LAI recovery, seemed to be one of the main cause. Thus, grazing management strategies that involve costly tiller recruitment could decrease both overall forage production and sward persistence over time. However, the plant ability to recover LAI after successive intense defoliations seems to be species-dependent and related to their phenotypic plasticity.

For that purpose, plots of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass), Lolium multiflorum (annual ryegrass), and Avena strigosa (black oats) were defoliated from 20 to 80 % of their initial heights (25, 20, and 25 cm, respectively). At different increments in height, forage samples were collected to ground level and used to estimate tiller population density (TPD), leaf area per tiller (LA), and forage mass. From these data, we calculated the leaf area index (LAI), average leaf area index (aLAI), and average and instantaneous forage accumulation rate (FAR and IFAR, respectively). Data were plotted over time (days) to describe LAI recovery and forage accumulation rates. As the defoliation intensity increased, greater canopy heights were needed for pastures to achieve their maximum forage accumulation rates, which required longer regrowth intervals. The need for high tiller recruitment after defoliation, which delayed canopy LAI recovery, seemed to be one of the main cause. Thus, grazing management strategies that involve costly tiller recruitment could decrease both overall forage production and sward persistence over time. However, the plant ability to recover LAI after successive intense defoliations seems to be species-dependent and related to their phenotypic plasticity.(AU)
