Summary Ergasilus bryconis n. sp. was described from the gills of an Amazonian food fish called locally the "matrinchã" (Characidae: Brycon melanopterus (Cope). The new species differs from others in the genus in having a two-segmented fourth endopod and a single spine on the first maxilla.Resumo Uma nova espécie de crustáceo Ergasilus bryconis n. sp. é descrita parasitando um peixe amazôco chamado matrinchã [Characidae: Brycon melanopterus (Cope)]. A nova espécie distingue-se das demais conhecidas por ter o endopódito IV com dois segmentos e um único espinho na primeira maxila.
