This issue of the BJVP brings a review article that represents a milestone for microscopic diagnosis and classification of canine mammary tumors, which is titled Consensus for the Diagnosis, Prognosis and Treatment of Canine Mammary Tumors. This paper is a result of a team effort involving pathologists from all parts of Brazil, and its guidelines were thoroughly debated during a meeting that took place in Belo Horizonte (State of Minas Gerais, Brazil) in November 2010, which was sponsored by the Brazilian Association for Veterinary Pathology (ABPV) and the Brazilian Association for Veterinary Oncology (ABROVET).
