Resumo
Macrobrachium amazonicum is a South American freshwater endemic species. Fecundity, fertility and hatching rate were studied in 133 females maintained in laboratory. Those data were related with length and weight; the absolute fecundity varied between 178 and 1,344 eggs in females of 38 to 67 mm and 0.620 to 2.650 g. This result is lower than that of other Macrobrachium species of commercial interest. This fact is compensated by their reproduction all the year round with monthly hatching. The hatching rate is about 40% for specimens with average length near 55 mm. The larval number varied between 21 and 1,848 in females of 45 to 78.5 mm and 0.620 to 2.980 g. Fecundity, hatching rate and fertility increase according to female size.Macrobrachium amazonicum é uma espécie endêmica da América do Sul. Fecundidade, fertilidade e taxa de eclosão foram estudadas em 133 fêmeas mantidas em laboratório.
